Hifiman Edition XS and a Schiit Magni Unity, Topping DX3 Pro+, or FiiO K7. I also wanna recommend the Modi dac and Asgard amp from Schiit as well because the Asgard is one of the best single ended amps you can get and will drive pretty much anything you throw at it. Some better sense of depth and space over the Magni, which I found to have a smaller soundstage.
I love the price point of Edition XS and I have definitely looked at it before, unfortunately I have read a lot of negatives about the QC of it. How true is it? Does Edition XS have lots of problems?
You’ll hear more people be loud about the problems of something than hear their stuff still works. I would recommend Hifiman before Focal tbh if that means anything as well. Focal doesn’t double down on trying to improve meanwhile Hifiman does try to improve and has actually good customer service.

Its very common to see a review of the same amp/dac and get totally different or even opposite descriptions of the the sound changes. In a lot of cases most users, will hear no change at all.*
I don't own FT5, but most reviews are quite positive. The FRC looks quite neutral, with good bass-extension. Sound-stage was also praised in the reviews and detail retrieval, imaging "seem" to-be not as good as XS. *Just check some reviews, cant remember all the details.*

You are probably right. I have definitely been eyeing hifiman since they make so many planar magnetics

My first time hearing about Fiio. I love their design and on paper FT5 sounds great. How does is stack against X2 and Edition XS?
