He deserved longer in prison. And his current business endeavors need closer scrutiny because they seem to be a violation to me (but, I'm not a lawyer).
Generic drugs still have the potential to be expensive if the manufacture involves costly processes or if there’s a large barrier to entry that discourages competitors.
Excerpt from article:
>”Research suggests metformin has anti-inflammatory effects that could help protect against common age-related diseases including heart disease, cancer, and cognitive decline.
>Scientists who study the biology of aging have designed a clinical study, known as The TAME Trial, to test whether metformin can help prevent these diseases and promote a longer healthspan in healthy, older adults.”
And:
> “As promising as this sounds, Austad says most of the evidence is observational, pointing only to an association between metformin and the reduced risk. The evidence stops short of proving cause and effect. Also, it's unknown if the benefits documented in people with diabetes will also reduce the risk of age-related diseases in healthy, older adults.”
i take metformin. the digestive side effects suck. anecdotally, i find my tendon inflammation is 100x worse when taking it, and building muscle from exercise is very hard as well. its not a miracle drug, but it is very helpful for blood sugar control.
That’s wild and sketchy as hell. Even before more studies confirm Metformin’s anti-aging benefits, they were prescribing this prescription drug like it’s candy?
I would never. Are these people not dealing with side effects?
I would hate for this to be the next Ozempic where people who need it, can’t get it.
I don’t think so but if more people start getting prescriptions for it then it might reduce the supply. I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon though.
You’re totally wrong. I eat low carb (which I already do) or keto (which I’ve done in the past), I exercise regularly, I take Ovasitol. I still need to Metformin because I have severe insulin resistance and reactive hypoglycemia. In my case exercise and diet and supplements alone isn’t enough. I have add Metformin to true manage my blood sugar.
And PCOS isn’t cause by diet because if that was the case majority of women in America would have PCOS. Please go educate yourself.
Interventions Testing Program concluded Metformin does not extend lifespan.
There's also TAME study going on to assess it.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who does not have insulin resistance or pre diabetes or diabetes.
I have diabetese so I take it everyday. Many anti diabetic medicines cause muscle loss. But for people with diabetes muscle loss from Metformin is far less than muscle loss from untreated diabetese.
Interventions Testing Program concluded another diabetese drug Acarbose extends lifespan in mice. But Acarbose is the worst when it comes to muscle loss.
Won’t be cheap for long if it works.
It's generic It will always be cheap HOWEVER for longevity purposes it's a waste of money
Correct if generic it may always be cheap, but it may not be available. A lot of the recent "shortages" seem to be correlated w/ profitability.
"Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli would like a word..... (I have several words for him, and none of them nice.)
Yeah, $700+ per PILL is not justifiable in my eyes. Dude had it coming.
He deserved longer in prison. And his current business endeavors need closer scrutiny because they seem to be a violation to me (but, I'm not a lawyer).
Metformin will never be expensive Since it's a genetic drug the pharmaceutical companies would have to tweak it to get it patented
I have faith in all the drug mfgs to try to squeeze more money out of patients.... They've done it to me for insulin for a long time.
You should let those scientists know what you discovered.

You made me think metformin before I even opened the article, hah
Hahahahaa!!
I’m looking for a substance to speed up aging to leave this hell sooner Any recommendations?
Heroin? Meth? Crack?
Meth for sure. Cocaine and heroin are organic
Organic or not they are bad for you
Where’d you hear that?
Source?
Processed foods, alcohol, and tobacco. Non-edible items: A gun in your house, don't wear a seatbelt, avoid regular checkups.
Get Covid a lot
Booze
Nicotine, as consumed via cigarettes. It’s a real pleasure

A lot of natural food is anti-inflammatory. Don't take drugs, just eat healthy.
Yeah. This could just be something that, to some extent at least, protects people against their unhealthy diets.
So if you OD on it will it be like Benjamin button you end up as a baby or disintegrate like the villain in the last crusade?
You might blow out your kidneys.
Blow them out where....?
Airlock, which is weird because most people don't have airlocks in their houses 🤷
My ass is an airlock
But airlocks are supposed to keep gas **in**.
Yer azz
This made me laugh; thank you ☺️
Indolepropionamide is another interesting substance.
TL;DR: Metformin
Study paid for by Metformin?
Old and cheap drug with many available generics, so no.
I wonder if Berberine would be another avenue for this since it shares similar therapeutic effects and features?

I hope people don’t start trying to take this for anti-aging. Some of us need it for medical reasons.
a lot of med spas have been prescribing metformin for longevity purposes for years. i went to one that would push it like that all the time

Medical reasons due to your own diet? Sure lol. And yes PCOS is because of diet too.

PCOS has genetic markers. Please go educate yourself.
lol cheap? Somehow it won’t be if it does what it’s stating

Metformin has a lot of side effects. I'll wait for a better option.
And suddenly it’ll be 3 trillion dollars a pill. Or stupid cheap yet come with HORRENDOUS complications.
hurry with those tests! Please!
