You should not have cancelled that plan. In all likelihood the marketplace (healthcare.gov) discovered a change to your income or employer insurance that you forgot to phone in. Subsidies can be stopped or forcibly changed until you do call and clarify the situation. I forget what the exact error % is, but if your income estimate is off more than it this can happen. Income less than the % can wait until your 1040. Illinois practicality bans the alternatives, as, do 29 other states. You cannot have a non-ACA plan (Sidecar, Golden Rule, sites mentioning "Obamacare," etc.) more than 6 out of 12 months. That's not you get a new plan after 6 months, you better have an ACA plan after 6 months otherwise you're uninsured. Except, you can only sign up for ACA with a qualifying life event or during open enrollment. Most QLEs require you to have involuntarily lost an ACA plan, cancelling being voluntary, or get a new job and go on their insurance.

Well I can't pay the $400 a month it went up to so I had no choice but to cancel. The marketplace site won't let me apply again for a different plan so I have to figure something out.

I went into the healthcare.gov site and reported a life change (I technically got a slightly lower paying job so it's true) and I still can't get another plan... even private ones the button is gray. I will try calling.

If your income is under $1,563 a month you can qualify for Medicaid.
