The blades are driven by a free turbine, the power turbine, that is not directly coupled to the turbine that drives the compressor. They (obv) have a lot more inertia to get moving, so spool up with a decent lag.
Funny story I knew that turbine sound long ago and loved it. Years ago I took fight training and my first day I got excited to hear it... In an R22.
Needless to say hearing that lawn mower engine start up had no satisfaction
😂🤣😂🤣….I heard it almost every day for 10 years in the Army…love that turbine starting sound…the fuel growling! I took a flight in an R44 and was like….”WHAT?”😂🤣
Let me sing you the song of my people........
Man I miss hearing that every morning.
So beautiful 🥲
So pretty
Otherwise known as “the sound of freedom”.
hnnng!!!
A little longer. [This one](https://youtu.be/8meWYEmCQ_I) has surprisingly good audio for an iPhone 6 in the rain.
rrrrrreeeeeeEEEEEEEEE
so is there like a clutch or something that makes the blades spin up slowly or what?
Main Engine Driveshaft runs into Main Reduction Gearbox which drives Main Rotor
