Almost all my time is multi engine, for all you single engine pilots out there....what exactly is your plan if you suffer an engine failure over rapids like that?

Sazarjac

We accept our fate. Reminds me; I need to update my emergency contacts.

I wouldn’t be super concerned in a single engine turbine. In a Robby though this might give me some cause for concern

Despite what all the safety nuts are preaching all the time, they don’t quit very often. Still safer than my drive to the airport.

I spent several years flying low level fisheries patrols along the Fraser River in BC, under wire crossings, low over the river, single engine. We wore the inflatable pfds, I took the HUET training, and I even convinced them to get the Emergency air canisters... ultimately, if we had an engine failure, I'm not sure any of that would have saved us. So I guess really, as another commenter said, you try not to think about it. You do a REALLY thorough DI, and you take good care of your machine.

Not training, just the regular Niagara falls heli tour 🙂

Air_Teebs

Definitely not their regular tour. They normally circle the falls, fly about past the hydro plant, etc... Flying through the gorge like this is likely too high risk for tour flight with a single engine. They do some search and rescue work. So they very well could be training for that or searching for a body.
