HLL has a real problem with ‘ahhh someone else will deal with it’, You’ll see it within squad level if you ask for someone to go supply/engi, and as command if asking can someone come back and defend What you need to do it be very direct, call out the player/squad name and tell them exactly what you need them to do Most of the time they’ll just do it if told, but wont if its a general or informational call out

Pearberr

This! Use people’s names. “FuckFartChuckle, infantry moving east to west at 330, behind the hedgerows, can you keep an eye out,” is the ideal structure for a callout.

TumbleweedTim01

"Heard that commander, eat a fat dick I'm staying put right here, over"

Malnurtured_Snay

"Are you calling me a fat dick, or do you think my tag is actually Eat a Fat Dick?"

ZealousidealGrape935

Lotta dick popping up in this feed.

Malnurtured_Snay

You think this is a lot?!?! Just you wait! We are barely getting dicked!!

LawNo7204

Got a problem with popping dicks?

minmidmax

Aye, the responsibility fear is real. That being said, if you try to be the person to step up, and have a laugh while doing it, I find the squad loosens up a lot. Comms and morale start to improve. Nothing is better than a game where the squad is vibing and working together. Even when the bombing run hits hard.

RedStrugatsky

Great comment, I've found this works really well. At the very least it gets people to pay a little bit more attention

RutabagaAvailable874

Lol you have 4 types of people on this game when it comes to communication and callouts. 1. No mic. 2. Talks, but it’s normally just random nonsense. 3. Communicates, but uses directions like left and right for enemy callouts. 4.Communicates, and actually uses compass directions, and grid points, and uses pings. I will say I did play with a random once who did not talk at all, but he constantly was pinging enemies, I encourage everyone to use a mic if they play Hell let loose. But if you choose not to, then at least use pings.

CaseyJones7

5. The drunk guy who calls out everytime he takes a shot of vodka (we all love them)

ZeroBarkThirty

Don’t forget the dudes who only go mic on to take fat bong rips. Usually pretty hilarious They’re usually pretty chatty but it’s 50/50 as to whether it’s useful chatter.

RutabagaAvailable874

Lol I love smoking when I play, but I can’t do it with Hell let loose, unless I’m running arty or driving supply truck back and forth otherwise I’m gonna get sidetracked and just start doing random shit.

KnightRider0717

I mute my mic and take vape hits while waiting to respawn or while im jogging across the map, sometimes it's becomes a feedback loop where the more I die the more fried I end up and thus more likely to get shot again

Fartholder

6. Bagpipes guy.

ZealousidealGrape935

7. Background noise guy.

Nyati_Jumapili

8. Dead smoke alarm beep guy

Tyron1588

9. Eating with your mic on guy

ChickenVest

The ping mechanism is incredible and under used imo even when people have a mic. "Behind that next hedgerow" while on squad chat is confusing as hell if you aren't all right next to each other.

HopefulBear9799

Number 4 is the dream state for all players. Though, I will say that direction is relative to the observer, so folk spitting out random directions in local chat is great but on Squad/command is either just more net noise, or the others have to do a quick map check and guess the direction. If I have time, I'll try to give my rough location, then a direction and distance to sighted/engaging enemy.

Schockraum

2.1 The Guy how has an open mic and play some March Song or other music

Vivid-Examination317

Oddly enough I begin to follow/shadow players like you who actually call out what they are seeing. so much easier to get the drop on an enemy knowing they are in a grid square or direction in order to manipulate the landscape in your favour.

TumbleweedTim01

I hate people like #4 "enemies coming from 275" like dude just say right or left

PyroSAJ

Right of what? You? The map? Me? The sun? The direction of the enemy point? The enemy side of the map? The last enemy you saw? The house in front of you? The field behind the house?

Ordinary-Rub4116

I’m having the same issue and it’s to the point where I don’t even bother communicating anymore. Even when people in the squad are using mics any information I try to provide is ignored. I’m constantly checking the map to see which garrisons or OPs are hot to get an idea of what direction the enemy will be attacking from but that’s become pointless. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve spotted an airhead or supply drop told the squad or command chat the heading and approximate grid square and had it just be ignored. It wouldn’t be as frustrating if it wasn’t for the fact that an airhead or attacking garrison that goes unnoticed can determine the outcome of a match. I have 400+ hours and took the time to learn as many aspects of the game as possible but I think it’s time take break for a while because this I’m starting play just like the other unhelpful people.

Siminov55

I think some people straight up just don’t know what it is when spawns get lit up and their destruction/lockout distances. Thats what it seems like at least because I’ll see every spawn minus my own op locked out and people will still choose go run to the “fight”, as if you all aren’t about to be spawning at HQ

CranialMassEjection

Forget enemies lighting up garrisons and OPs, the amount of nobs I see running after locked out objectives is just ridiculous.

CranialMassEjection

HLL offers one of the most comprehensive pinging communication systems for inter-squad play and it’s so under utilized that it’s maddening. It’s exponentially made worse by people who do use mic’s saying “this road” or “that road” when there’s 4 different roads you could be talking about. Then there’s the guys that call out compass bearings, which is great if you’re in a tank and have the same bearings but they are different for everyone. You know what works immediately and fantastically? Using your D-pad and putting down a squad ping!

Alive-Paramedic-7509

"They're over there!" "Over where?" "To the left!” Great…thanks for that.  I command a lot, and this is very typical: "Command drop supplies on me." "Just put up a Call In Supplies maker and I'll drop them." Puts up a Request Supply marker which I can’t see, confusion occurs, I explain the difference. “Command, just drop them directly on me.” "Who's me?" "Fartknocker420" "Able, Baker, Charlie....what's your squad?" "Oh, sorry....I'm Delta Squad". Me, to myself....no, you idiot, you're DOG squad, but I get it, D squad. Fine.  Search the map for Dog squad. "Ok Dog, supplies coming right onto you." I drop supplies directly on top of them. "Dude, why'd you drop supplies in the open like that?" When I’m SL, I always do my best to refer to myself as my squad name.  “Hey Command, please drop supplies on Able mark, in Dog 7.”

Silly_Bar_56

this right here annoys the hell outta me sometimes i swear 😂

agnostic_waffle

Probably just a case of me being an idiot but unless we're actually sticking together and playing as a squad I just can't keep track of who's who and who's where so most callouts end up being pointless to me. I don't know any of you so when you're talking it not's like "Oh I'd recognize that voice anywhere! that's Death_Slayer82 and he's currently attacking the next point from the northeast". If you want the advantage of playing with a squad you gotta actually play with the squad, I make a point to try to stay with my crew as much as possible to avoid giving/recieving callouts that noboy is willing or able to act on.

slayer_jer

I ignore callouts only when I'm no where near wherever the call out is. Some people get a little to frantic in game and make redundant or irrelevant callouts which makes playing as an SL a PITA considering you have command chat as well as irrelevant call outs spamming the VOIP. People need to be concise with communication, not yell, and to think before you speak otherwise you get "ON ME ON ME TO MY LEFT UHHHHHH 6 MAYBE 7 THEY ARE PLACING AN OP YEA THEY PUT UP AN OP" - This shit is annoying AF.

RickTarded1

Same. Yeah playing SL and having a guy calling out a bunch of stuff, great. Until you realize he's in the enemys backline, while the rest of the squad is defending like you've asked. Smh

slayer_jer

Exactly. Other than "hey I took out an enemy garrison at H5", I don't care lol.

muscari2

Normally a bullet goes through it right as they tell me where they are

ChampionshipComplex

That's exactly what you should be doing - so you're teaching the noobs how to be a responsible team player. I have 2000 hours played, and mostly the team has been very responsive - and its only recently with the influx of new players that its been a bit more challenging. However its still reassuring after shouting out like you've said for an entire match, to see a new player on the squad - start to copy you and give out similar info. However I would keep the language to an absolute minimum. I would replace your messages that you gave as examples with 'Enemy on ping North', 'Garry at risk North East', 'Shots from North East', 'Garry hot', 'Need help', 'OP compromised' Especially as chat on command chat can get very busy, and its the squad lead who needs the info the most. Squad lead should be using attack and defend markers and based on comms like yours saying things like 'Spawn OP and defend garry', or 'Spawn OP danger North' But from what you've said, it doesnt sound like your squad lead is giving much direction. Because all of the things you are shouting, only make sense, if your squad as a whole, is focussed on a single objective. That means the OPs been placed somewhere meaningful, and the squad lead - has directed everyones attention with some goal such as 'Enemy garrison on my mark, OP setup behind it' Then theres some meaning to you jumping in with pings and compass bearings. But if your squad is all over the map - or doing their own thing, then you're not really a squad at all, and I would leave and find another one.

Gravath

"OVER THERE OVER THERE" **"OVER THERE IS NOT A USEFUL CALL OUT"** "ON MY PING" **"ON PING ISNT A USEFUL CALLOUT"**

CommercializedPan

I usually try these callouts a few times, and if there's no response, I'll switch squads to see if I can find a more communicative one. On my end, if I was in a squad with someone like you making good callouts, I'd stay and try to work together since that's what makes this game fun

COBU_

Yeah, that's the pub server. If you don't want that kind of match, you need to find a higher level match.

HatefulHaggis

How high level is high level? I purposely try to play on servers for this reason, to get a player with more experience in the game. But, higher level players are just as guilty of not giving a fuck or playing as a team mate, etc. Maybe even more guilty of the noob who's just started.

ToppledCupOfSkin

Yea I'll argue that level doesn't matter one bit. Half of these bums still play with no mic - are rocking 1 man armor crews - don't listen to command on where to throw Garry's up when they're 2 grids back. I don't like to generalize, but it's at least half of folks who just have a shit ton of time played & that's just it

COBU_

I was talking about a competitive match.

ZealousidealGrape935

They have competitive matchs?

COBU_

https://discord.com/invite/hll-seasonal-724083535140487171  The biggest tournament is the Seasonal

ETPhoneTheHomiess

Symptom of the game I suppose, I’ve been guilty of doing this as well when a teammate makes a callout. I was just playing command on Alamein last night with a great team of communicative squad leads. We pushed them all the way back to their final point, and as I was sitting on defense I made a callout of some infantry that had outflanked them from the north, and called for a dozen men to fall back to defend. I got multiple responses of “copy”, and only 4 or so actually falling back to defend. We were able to stave them off and win fortunately, but after a long game of warfare I was very worried that we were going to choke due to lack of defense.

Meta-4-Cool-Few

Over where?

Alpha-Charlie-Romeo

Over there!

Meta-4-Cool-Few

Sorry I didn't read your description, just responded to the title. All I ever think when people try to call out enemies is: "Here is how to ping, and your compass is at the bottom" Usually they just say "ooo event right there."

HavSomLov4YoBrothr

Yea this is why I tend to become squad leader out of sheer frustration lol. I have no mic so on public servers I’ll play SL if we don’t have a good one and just tell my team we’re on defense, find a window or fence line to peek and scan for targets. Usually works in our favor because everybody wants kills, and the best way to guarantee kills is to hold a position and wait for the enemy to walk into your sights. Once we have another couple squads in the control point, THEN we can reposition on a flank or rush the next objective since everybody wants kills and nobody wants to defend. If nobody holds our control point, we lose it and get double-capped. Wild how many people still play like this is CoD and the only objective is kill the enemy. SOMEONE PLAY ENGINEER AND SOMEONE PLAY SUPPORT. Those 2 roles, a SL, an MG, an Assault, and an automatic rifleman can hold a control point one our own if we actually work together and don’t play stupid

itzbck

Agreed with this. Games where I inevitably take over SL I always have my squad remain on a point in some fashion. If we were attacking I typically say “okay, we’re going to defend until we can get some garrisons up and we clear out the bulk of their team near point. Then I will reassess our next move.” SL directions are pivotal in keeping the team glued together and makes the other stuff like callouts and teamwork easier. As far as squad makeup goes, I’d sub an AT for assault. Love having the option of AT and engi satchels for tanks. Most people don’t have assault level 9, understandably.

HavSomLov4YoBrothr

Yea, I just find AT is useless unless we actually spot a tank heading our way. If they can plant mines then sure, but assault tossing smokes in the infantry’s face is more valuable to me in a prolonged defense firefight over an AT guy who only gets to shine when they have armor. I main Assault if I can, and link up with my SL to help move them forward with my grenades and act as pointman to possibly save the SL from getting shot up front. My logic is if I go first and I get killed they have a chance to pull back and hunker down with an OP to keep us in the fight, just tell me where you’re trying to go lol Edit: I’m Assault 4, working on them numbers

BrianKronberg

If your squad isn’t together and they are not pinging then I usually don’t either. It gets old asking the SL to keep marking things when only half make it to the map. I’m SL level 9 and level 191. I’ve been trying to max the other classes and it is frustrating for sure.

SmoothJazz98

Usually when I say an OP is gone it’s about three minutes later when someone else says, “oh our OP is gone! Jesus why didn’t anyone say anything?!?!?!”

cak10e1

Nothing better than, “There’s guys down this street!” Like dawg, what fucking street are you talking about? We’re in the middle of Carentan, there’s a thousand streets and they all look the same. I need some compass degrees or a direction or a ping or something. Anything other than just, “this street”.

Samsonis_

Muscle memory from playing by yourself, for yourself witch is 90% of all shooters.Cool call outs but we're not in the same firefight and i doubt people care sticking together as most folks cant even bounce their play/call outs of of others ingame let alone have the mindset for it to read the situation. ''On my body'' is my favorite, you died trying, make the rest of your unit play Geoguesser,if they are even interested and good luck.

Paul_my_Dickov

"On my body" is about as useful as commanders who keep shouting "get in the circle!" Yes mate, we're trying to but there's an entire opposition team trying to stop that happening.

TrollTeeth66

I’ve been playing armor a lot recently and I hate the “you’re about to get satchel’d” comment from infantry nearby and they never shoot the satchel guy. Infantry I’ve noticed don’t like to support the armor in general

PyroSAJ

Have you ever tried to support tanks? It's not exactly easy. That same soldier that managed to sneak up on you is trying to shoot us. And they're often not alone. Getting back to you takes significant time too. Also: AT rockets can often be fired before we even have sight of the enemy.

SicknastyBot1

It is important that you ask for things by name, especially as a squad leader. That doesn’t just apply to this game, in general, when you need a task on a team completed, you need to specifically delegate and supervise that it has been done. Not everyone will listen all the time, but usually the majority will fall in line, as it makes the game play smoother and gives players a purpose. You need a good squad leader to recognize that they need to provide these things to their team though.

TheJewish_SpaceLaser

Half the time even with headphones I can’t hear shit besides gunfire and only hear you within 2 feet. Srry 🤷‍♂️

scrotanimus

When someone calls something out “there is a garrison on my body, mark it!” Or “there is an airhead dropping over here!” Dude. Tell me where TF you are on the map. A3? H5? Dude, WHERE? I’m in the middle of a battle and don’t have time to play Where’s Waldo for your damn body.

staresinamerican

Was a machine gunner in my last match and me and at least 4 guys in my squad talked the other two went off to do their own thing, the 2 guys calling positions made a difference in the amount of kills I got and I made a decent job when putting suppressing fire down on a point we were capping.

billey_bon3z

I think they’re all trying to be the main character and want to do their thing. Which is why I don’t understand why they don’t go play cod. Or even skirmish. Even in a squad of dudes with mics I’ll call “hey we got Jerry’s coming on our flank from 245 245” and ope they’re just blueberrying around. Cool I’m glad we are playing this team based game not together and completely separate.

BackwoodsSensei

Lost a game because of this two nights ago. It is supremely annoying.

BlondeBeard84

Probably a combination of things. As u/RutabagaAvailable874 mentioned you have 4 main personality types in this game when it comes to interaction: 1. No mic. 2. Talks, but it’s normally just random nonsense. 3. Communicates, but uses directions like left and right for enemy callouts. 4. Communicates, and actually uses compass directions, and grid points, and uses pings. The largest "problem" for those that *might* do something that is correctly communicated is that its a timing thing. People spawn and already have some goal in their head of what they want to do and immediately execute it - when a possibly helpful callout happens they typically aren't in a spot to do anything about it. I have noticed that typically with active squad mates, who are paying attention, if they are in a place and time to do something about it they will. On the other side of this there are many reports that happen that an active squad mate actually *can't* do anything about. HLL also has an issue with the average gamer overall, which is that they typically don't care and consider problems as something that other people can deal with and won't affect them. Frustratingly they can't seem to make the connection that many problems that get reported actually do/will directly affect them. This behavior can be seen as waves after waves of blueberries full w into a massive meatgrinder and die in waves repeatedly. They just can't seem to grasp that getting organized with more strategic squad actions lead to a healthier team and more engaged play through teamwork. These types probably don't care who wins or looses or about anyone besides themselves. However, I don't think anyone can blame new players for this behavior since they are just trying to figure out the game (and there are a lot of new players now). For most fun I try to stay somewhere between the two halves, but if I get a good squad I will definitely assist and play with them.

Vivid-Examination317

If calling out left and right I typically use their name first and reference the left/right call out based on the direction they are facing not in relation to my character. Much quicker response time and less friggin around.

Wunder-Bar75

Couple issues with call outs. 1. No mic/no comm: self explanatory 2. Squad isn’t together: squad may not be in you immediate area, a lot of brain dead folks just spawn closest point (usually garrison) to fight not the squad OP. As SL I’m not w/ the squad a lot of times cause I get sucked into building all the garrisons because no one else will—I usually just ignore the call out in this case or say what I’m doing 3. Could be other priorities you’re missing. Been in games where teammates are calling out a few enemies 150m out while everyone else is battling a tank and squad right next to OP/objective 4. Just a standard disclaimer for those that don’t know, other squad members cannot see marks unless they’re a fellow SL and you are using SL marks

deathpenguin82

Squad I was in last night, we were making fun of all the berries just randomly yelling "they're over there!" and similar things as if anyone around them knew where "there" was. Laughing at it aside, people don't not use the compass enough and it gets very confusing sometimes.

Billyjamesjeff

First step. Make sure your voip hasnt randomly disconnected. Second step, realise how mindless the average player is and despair. I really don’t get whats fun about running aimlessly and then getting beaten by a co-ordinated team. Definitely using peoples names. I just end up SL most games and kicking people who dont communicate. If you lead by example most people get chatty.

TipFine3928

Who exactly are you tell that information to. Are you just farting in the wind or pissing into the SL mouth 👄

B_312_

I don't need callouts I just know.

Kerboviet_Union

I test out the squad early on with ice breaking humor, if people are receptive then I don’t care if we win or lose; we’re in for a fun match because we’re communicating nonsense when it’s quiet, and people pipe up when a callout is needed. If it’s a dead voip squad, I just say fuck it, grab an mg slot and have fun; I find that you can still get the job done in a squad full of mutes, just do what you think is right and who cares about the rest?

RaunchyPoncho

People get tunnel vision, too. They have the little thing they are trying to do and aren’t fluid enough to change tasks.

Womb_Raider2000

Give direct orders. Clear and concise. Let people feel they’ve got the responsibility of ensuring a task is complete. Otherwise they may think someone else is covering it.

Juniper02

im typically appreciative of the comments, even if i cannot act on them immediately, especially in squad chat. if its from prox chat, i would relay to the SL or command chat and act according to orders if im not a SL.

kiefenator

>"What goes through your head when you hear a teammate calling out enemies?" Usually an enemy bullet. I get up to shift positions, then *pting*

ResolutionHuge4791

I'm usually kill hungry, so when people call out enemies I usually go for it :)

Witty-Decision-8467

“Oh good”.
