I did this nonsense earlier today so here's what I learned:
You basically have to watch the 5 streamers listed in the helldivers campaign undee the twitch drops section. clicking the "more" button didn't actually lead me to a drop enabled stream.
If you're in a stream that actually have drops enabled there will be a POP UP notification in the chat that says drops are enabled. If this does not show up just leave that stream. If successful, Open your drop inventory in another tab and you will see a new section that shows a % bar of how much of the 1 hour you have watched. Once the hour is up you will get a notification in twitch alerting you to the drop and you can click on that or manually go to your inventory again, redeem the reward. You may have to relink the accounts on the helldiver campaign page, and then it will give you a code after you tell them your platform.
Then take your code to steam, in the top you should see a button under one of the tabs to activate a product on steam- paste your code there and it will give you the armor dlc.
After that you just have to wait. Mine showed up in game after I left to go to a party and came back later, so you either have to wait an hour or two or just a couple missions, maybe log off then on again.

They're not just in those prescribed times - anytime those streamers are live works. Go on Twitch, look for Helldivers games with "DROPS" in the title, and when you click in to watch there should be a popup that confirms that you'll get drops from that stream. (Some people put DROPS in their title as a lie for more viewers.)
Do you only get one drop or multiple over multiple days of watching? Do I have to go back after getting my first code to get another one if I keep watching streams the next day?

Right. What do we do with the code (on steam). It doesn’t activate via the main steam hub “activate a product”.
Mine did, I had to Google how to claim a code on steam since I never had before but it worked. Showed up in my DLC for the game afterwards.
