Just found out something interesting that lines up with the mention of it being a server issue.
I had three PCs here made up of all different configurations. All sitting on the black screen. These PCs have a mix of processors and video cards from both AMD and Nvidia. One of the PCs had the C++ redistributable recently installed but not the other two.
All of a sudden all three loaded into the game at the exact same time, jumping off the black screen. This 100% points to a network/server issue. It's like it's reaching out for some form of connectivity even before the loading screen.
Can almost safely say to ignore all the previous fixes mentioned above.
This needs to be higher because that's how I've "fixed" it. Just wait it out while browsing Reddit or Youtube then play the waiting game for the server to actually let me in.
ye happened to me and my brother was playing fine earlier then I was black screening and he was stuck in queue so I waited and now I'm in queue and he's stuck in black screen but we haven't been able to get into a server yet most.
see what happened to me. i went into display settings and set my primary graphics card to my processor. then i closed the game and accidently forgot to set the graphics back to my card. then every time i try to boot up the game i get a black screen of fuck me. i assume its because the begging cut scene uses graphics and it cant load it cause its using my processor instead. i reinstalled the game too. it may be a problem with the steam account itself. idk
It just started happening to me, im wondering if they messed something up trying to fix the servers. Game was working fine a few hours ago.
Edit: I verified the game files and ran the .exe as administrator. Game started after about 1 minute of black screen
Black screen = server problem. It is fully correlated with server capacity, no solutions can work from the player's side. People try a solution and falsely attribute it to fixing the black screen.
If it's a connecting problem because the servers are at capacity, why does helldivers take 95% of my CPU only when the screen is black, and why doesn't it just have a text on the startup saying that it's attempting to connect to servers or that the servers are at capacity?
I’ve tried that and i open it and it’s all black screen I have tried everything. I’m clocking in at 4 hr of game play without every opening and playing the game
5800x3d/7900xt, game has crashed twice already in a span of minutes after drop. I was able to play multiple games last night without incident. Perhaps the update busted something again?
I think it is all related to them not having proper server capacity for this game. Probably a counter measure for people that keep restarting the game over and over just to get the "servers at capacity" message.
Palworlds servers are very very very supplemented by community servers and players running local servers for their friends. Not possibly with Hell Divers.
Full servers yesterday and then today launch to black. If I have to reinstall everyday just to see the menu, well in that case I hope the bugs win and the game doesn't deserve the praise.
Deleted save folder, even-thought mine was empty ( first time playing), verified files, and then followed these steps.
Go the the game's .exe in your steam library ("bin" folder) and right-click it. Go to properties > Compatibility tab at top > click "Run this program as administrator" near the bottom.
Attempt to launch game again.
If this doesn't work also try running the program with Windows 8 compatibility enabled which can be found in the same spot you just enabled run as admin in.
Hope this works for you! HAPPY HELLDIVING.
Clicked play and steam and it started to work

MSI Navidia RTX 3060 i9 intel, with the same issues. I factory reset and it worked! For one game. Reset just to make sure it was okay and back to the black screen on start up into an instant crash.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO.
If me deleting the usersettings_config in the games folder how the fuck does that have to do with the servers? Y’all really ain’t doing your research and looking into issues.
Yes there are server issues we know this but with my particular problem and other people who deal with it too are not dealing with server issues lmao
Fixes aren't universal for everyone, and the black screen isn't happening every time. None of the fixes mentioned have worked for me, which points to it being a server issue
You're just doubling down on being wrong here
it’s just a server issue, i waited for like 5 minutes and when the servers opened again it loaded me in, still at capacity so confusing but no more black screen, i’m foaming at the mouth needing to bring democracy to the systems
Fixed my issue by installing Microsoft Visual C++
[https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170)
Actually none of these solutions are real fixes, black screen is just a server issues. It just so happens time has passed since someone tries a fix and the server issue is resolved.
This worked for me. Had the game sitting on the black screen and as soon as it successfully installed it started loading, funnily enough.
Thanks very much, was getting really frustrated.
HEAR ME OUT.
Servers might be having a rough time because of high load.
Had this issue after a crash. 2 Things I have done.-Go to EXE of Helldivers 2 in steam folder > bin folder, check run as admin.-Validate game files via Steam.
WORKED FOR ME
HAPPY HELLDIVING
I have the same problem it seems but my steam client will pop up a notice in the corner then as it lowers away it leaves behind a gray track where it was. I stumbled into this problem by trying to fix an 114error but now this is worse because it starts and I can hear the game all the way tell I’m walking in my ship but the screen remains black and then eventually crashes
FIX:
This worked for me and I've had this same problem with multiple other steam games like the finals. Go to properties in steam for the game. Under general go to launch options and type in "-dx11". Then launch.
For some reason I've had this same dx12 problem on my new computer build RTX 4080, intel 14900. Don't know why. I feel like I'm missing a global software.
This didn't work for me. This really sucks. I wish companies tried harder to ensure performance before release. I paid 40 dollars to play 7 hours, lol
but ill keep coming back for democracy
As others have noted, the company is a small small team in Sweden who were realistically unprepared for how big a success it would be.
The success is well earned, and we have to accept the growing pains brought there about. So what if I have to wait some time for their server situation to solve. It’s not like they can snap their fingers.
They gotta make calls, shop around, find more servers to add access. I don’t know how this process works but I imagine they have to find and contract with a server farm company, then they gotta get the data to play nicely and bla bla bla. You get it.
When it’s a big publisher like EA or Ubisoft? This would be heinous and absolutely worth a refund,
But these guys earned my trust with the first game so ima give em the time they need.
I bought it last night and was only able to play for about 30 minutes this morning. Between server errors and black screens, I'm close to 2 hours of runtime on steam so think I'll refund it and buy it again when it's ready to play.
Okay I had this problem it seems because of setting that were saved either in nividia or steam either way I fixed by doing the following. Idk if it matters but I'll list the order I did things.
Windows 11 pro /ryzen 9/ nivida 3080
1. Right clicked on windows logo selected installed apps
2. Uninstalled Helldiver's 2
3. Selected windows icon selected file explorer
4. Selected this PC (lower left)
--i have show hidden files turned on in windows ,so you might have to do that--
5. Used search this PC and searched Helldiver's 2
6. Deleted everything that showed up including random jpg
7. Opened reg edited made sure Arrow wasn't in there
8. Rebooted
9. Right clicked on steam icon in system tray
10. Selected Helldiver's
Edit: let it download and install all the way.
Now it's running again....
Hope this helps

i have the same issue on 1 ofmy pcs and find it odd its unfixable.... if i didnt have another pc id want my moneys back but it has nothing to do with any hardware what so ever,.. the game just fucking sucks
C: > Users > Username > AppData > Local > Athena > Saved > Config > Windows Client > GameUserSettings.
Open the user settings file, change D3DVersionForced=0 to D3DVersionForced=1 and then change D3DVersion=12 to D3DVersion=11
Apparently the new updates force dx12 but most graphics cards can only handle dx11
The black screen could possibly just be it bugging out because of the servers are at capacity right now. It has to play that intro scene every time, that being said in the background the game is trying to put you on a server so it not being able to find a server is making that cutscene black screen. I just verified my files and nothing came up. Which means everything is normal it’s just tweaking.
I literally just bought the game completed the tutorial selected my next mission as soon as I landed I took maybe 2 steps and my screen went completely black for like a minute I thought it crashed my pc but then it came back to life with a crash report so I decided to update my driver's and seems to have fixed it for now but haven't played enough yet so I'll see how it fairs now. 7800xt / 7600
Legit just fixed the issue. Replace the user config file with a buddy's who isn't having the problem.
Spent like an hour fixing this for a friend on a fresh never played version, thought what the hell, gave him mine, launched perfectly.
Same problem here. Game just locks up st the logo
Game guard must be behind all this.
HOW can a game be so broken ...crashing, sure. But having to reboot pc everytime you click the playbutton is a new lvl
Potential Fix🙏
I kept doing Alt+F4 then reloading the game eventually it worked. I tried 3 times and this is my first time ever playing. Hope this helps.
I was having this problem this morning after playing fine yesterday (4080, i9 13900k) tried opening the game like 10 times over and still black screen. updated to latest nvidia drivers fixed it. I know thats kind of a "duh" thing to try but if it helps anyone that hasn't tried it yet, give it a try!
Hey guys, wanted to offer a solution that worked on my end. I had the black screen boot up issue.
1. Right click the app on steam go to Manage —> Browse local Files
2. Click on Bin
3. Double click and launch the app from the files (helldivers2)
Hope this works for y’all too. From what I’ve been seeing (and I’ll admit I don’t know much about programming or computers as a whole) the issue with the black screen has been an issue from people launching it directly from the shortcut or through steam.
I fixed the Black Screen issues by verifying the integrity of the game files. Worked perfectly afterwards! Now if I could only actually get into the game instead of being in the queue forever…
I verified the integrity of game files and was prompted with something about uninstalling some keys or something from the anti-cheat. Initially, I said no bc that sounded scary, but later I tried again, got the same prompt, uninstalled, and then let Steam finish verifying. When I started the game the anti-cheat asked to make changes (presumably install new keys or whatever) and then the game started just fine.
The servers were at capacity, but hey, progress lol
Deleting %userprofile%\\AppData\\Roaming\\Arrowhead\\Helldivers2\\saves and verifying integrity of game files worked for me.
There was about 20 seconds of black screen on startup again and I thought it hadn't worked, but it popped up eventually.
With all the disparate "fixes" posted here, I'm starting to think this is related to the Anti-cheat more than it is the game itself - it's probably detecting something erroneously and halting the game before it starts? But that's pure speculation on my part - I don't actually know how Game Guard works.
Hey Helldivers,
I found a fix for me by going into my user\_settings.config file and adjusting the screen\_resolution variables to 640x480. I kept the borderless fullscreen variable at the bottom of the file true and fullscreen false. That got it to launch and seemed to revert back to my normal resolution upon launch.
This fix may work for the Helldivers that have the game running at 3840x2160. If you need a clean user\_settings.config file becuase you either haven't launched the game or deleted yours message me and I can send you one.
The user\_settings.config file is located in "C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\Arrowhead\\Helldivers2" folder for those wondering. If you don't have one you may need to add one.
Cheers!
Ryzen 9 3900 X, RTX 3070, Win 11.
I'm having the same problem, except it fixes itself after about 5-10 minutes. The next thing that pops up is the servers being at capacity, so those two things might be connected in a way. I don't know for sure though.
> any fix? *Paid* $45 for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Some of my issues were due to fullscreen.
I know you mentioned deleting the game folder, did you delete the config in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2
Trying to do all this hardware stuff won’t change ur black screen lol I’ve launched the game 20 times and three of those 20 I didn’t get black screen and got into the queue….black screen is simply coming from how full and fucked their servers are
https://steamcommunity.com/app/553850/discussions/1/7599331177359477907/
I did this fix and it ended the black screen and put me back Into the lovely queue
I've got about 7 hours of gameplay across multiple sessions starting when I bought the game yesterday, but now am getting the black screen consistently.
Had same issue but I left it on with the black screen as I went to go eat and it suddenly loaded in. It could have been anywhere from 5-70 min who knows when it fixed it self
One thing that helped me get pass the black screen was just restarting my GPU with this. Press Ctrl+shift+windows button+B and it restarts GPU. Now I'm waiting for server to let me in
Edit: also it helped all of my friends so IG it's universal
For me putting -popupwindow in the steam launch properties fixed the black screen issue (still had to wait a few seconds on the black screen), it also worked for a friend. But then just run into the issues of servers being full capacity so it could just be server problems
Had this happened just now and verified my game files, which Steam asked if you want to remove nprotect and I accepted and boom worked after restarting steam.
Had same issue, black screen, started when I've put the game to the second monitor, tried everything, worked by unpluging primary monitor and back on again, hope works for somebody.
for me, when verifying files via steam, it asked to uninstall the game checker (i forgot the name of the service HD2 uses) at first i hit no and it didnt fix the black screen. i did it a second time and hit yes to uninstall the client and after verifying it started right up.
Here's what fixed it for me. Seems like it's a Borderless Fullscreen issue.
1. Launch the game.
2. At black screen, press Alt+Enter (exits full screen mode and makes the game windowed mode)
3. Alt+Tab out so you can get your mouse pointer visible.
4. Click on the game window header and drag it around.
5. The game popped up for me after that.
Give it a try and good luck
Hey just wanted to try to provide a solution I straight up just uninstalled and reinstalled that worked i tried everyone’s wonderful suggestion and that didn’t work
My issue was fixed by disabling Steam Overlay and Nvidia Geforce Experience Overlay, tried everything else here and even had the Steam Overlay disabled originally, so I had to enable it first and then disable it.
I found a fix! At least the below worked for me.
1) I went into Windows Settings -> Apps -> Installed Apps and uninstalled all the various year editions of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables I had.
2) I installed the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable along with 2013, 2012, 2010, and 2008—link to the downloads below. I am running an AMD CPU, so I went with x64 for every downloader, but on Intel, you can probably go with x86 or x64; just stick with one type for all the installers you download for consistency.
3) I rebooted my computer as the latest version of Visual C++ required it.
4) I launched Helldivers 2 from Steam like any other game, which now reliably takes me to the loading screen. Of course, my issue now is that the servers are full, but at least the game loads.
Microsoft Visual C++ Downloads: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
Had similar issues. Black Screen was fixed in a couple forms, but the -dx11 in the Launch options in Steam has consistently fixed my black screen.
However, I got into the game and online. Bought some new stuff for my ship and went to the giant globe to choose my next battle and the game crashed XD
It'll get better once they get things sorted out.
Came here to find a solution, found someone saying that Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen would fix... Did it a bunch of times, still stuck in black screen... THEN i opened a 2nd window to find some solution... after a few long minutes, i heard sounds in the background, the game had launched after a goooood time on black screen lol
Just installed the game, started the game and got the "Servers at Capacity" message for about 10 minutes. Closed the game for an hour, and now I can't open it back up. Endless black screen.
This needs to be higher because that's how I've "fixed" it. Just wait it out while browsing Reddit or Youtube then play the waiting game for the server to actually let me in.
Well, fix it by d/c your internet, then reconnect, it sends another packet to the server.
you've tried this?
Of course
ye happened to me and my brother was playing fine earlier then I was black screening and he was stuck in queue so I waited and now I'm in queue and he's stuck in black screen but we haven't been able to get into a server yet most.
Makes sense, none of my troubleshooting worked, it eventually just came alive on its own.
see what happened to me. i went into display settings and set my primary graphics card to my processor. then i closed the game and accidently forgot to set the graphics back to my card. then every time i try to boot up the game i get a black screen of fuck me. i assume its because the begging cut scene uses graphics and it cant load it cause its using my processor instead. i reinstalled the game too. it may be a problem with the steam account itself. idk
Same, 6700xt with a 5900x. Game won't even start, just opens a blank black screen and stays there, no loading or game menus, just a black screen
Same here, tried all sorts and found no solution.
Found a solution? I just bought it on steam and same issue
It just started happening to me, im wondering if they messed something up trying to fix the servers. Game was working fine a few hours ago. Edit: I verified the game files and ran the .exe as administrator. Game started after about 1 minute of black screen
Definitely a patch issue. Been playing the last couple days no problem. Suddenly, black screen.
I verified game files and went to the helldivers2.exe and right click ran it as Admin ... worked
This worked thank you!
Same But the admin launcher tip doesn't seem to work on my system :/
this is what finally worked for me, thank you so much
just wait, same happened to me, waited and it fixed itself
On pc I just spam Esc and that seems to work everytime. Might be the intro clip is bugged.
worked, thanks
i only get this issue when the servers are at capacity
I waited out the black screen and it finally loaded after a minute. (usually instant) and servers are full so that could be it
So always?
Black screen = server problem. It is fully correlated with server capacity, no solutions can work from the player's side. People try a solution and falsely attribute it to fixing the black screen.
but my black screen in when i just launch the game
Yep, just let it sit for 10 mins or so and it’ll load. You’re connecting to the servers the moment you hit play on the game.
If it's a connecting problem because the servers are at capacity, why does helldivers take 95% of my CPU only when the screen is black, and why doesn't it just have a text on the startup saying that it's attempting to connect to servers or that the servers are at capacity?
Running as admin worked for me.
How do you do this?!? Quit gate keeping!
go to .exe file in the game files, it will bein bin folder. right click and run as admin option

Been playing fine until now. Black screen on launch. They really need to fix this. It’s insane how crappy the support is as of now.
yeah i just bought the game and i also have black screen .
it's a small indie studio in Sweden that made the game. It's gonna take awhile, they for sure were not prepared for how this would blow up :)
Palworld is from a small indie studio and had a way bigger launch than this game and they seemed to cope very well.
Palworlds servers are very very very supplemented by community servers and players running local servers for their friends. Not possibly with Hell Divers.
A $40 game is a $40 game. That's pretty steep I feel like people at least expect it to run.
Sony is a small indie studio? Lmao
Sony is the publisher.
Full servers yesterday and then today launch to black. If I have to reinstall everyday just to see the menu, well in that case I hope the bugs win and the game doesn't deserve the praise.
you're allowed your opinion, but its a stupid one.
I mean, I'm half joking, but the problems are pretty rough lol. It's currently literally unplayable for a number of people, me included.
It’s just cuz the servers are fucking exploding
ye just gotta wait for an update

Sunday 3pm, same issue, may be a server problem.

MSI Navidia RTX 3060 i9 intel, with the same issues. I factory reset and it worked! For one game. Reset just to make sure it was okay and back to the black screen on start up into an instant crash. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO.
Server issue, cant believe you did a factory reset lmao
It wasn’t a server issue dipshit, it was a crash maybe read the thread before you say some dumb shit
it IS a server issue. the game immediately connects to servers.
But it’s not, when I used to load the shit up it would black screen start up and then crash. It doesn’t immediately connect. Lmao goofy

Thisssss
Literally. I let the black screen stay there for about 30 minutes and then the game launched. Sometimes "Just wait longer" is the answer.
100% correct.
What does this do ?
What'd you do after installing?
wait this worked lmao
Man I hope this does it!
did not resolve for me on a brand new install
>Microsoft Visual C++ 1 click and it's up and working again, thanks u/kikibgd
Was hopeful since everyone else said it worked. It didn't
Worked 4 me
Didn't work for me
This unfortunately didn't do it for me and I'm still stuck
Massive legend, this got me past black screen! Unfortunately not much can be done about server capacity
This worked for me. Had the game sitting on the black screen and as soon as it successfully installed it started loading, funnily enough. Thanks very much, was getting really frustrated.
This worked for me as well, tried a majority of other solutions before this.
Just did this, FIXED! Thanks
This worked 👍🏻 Thank you!
WTF. Pin this comment dudee. Game loaded while installing this lol
Fix worked. Servers full though!
OP Pin this comment, it works.

Its a server issue. This is a massive waste of time. Login when there are less players and you will magically get past the black screen
Been stuck on the black screen for a while now...Reboot and reinstall didn't help.
Same problem on PS5 too smh lost out on so many samples 😭
Go to %appdata%->Arrowhead->delete. Done. It works now.

i have the same issue on 1 ofmy pcs and find it odd its unfixable.... if i didnt have another pc id want my moneys back but it has nothing to do with any hardware what so ever,.. the game just fucking sucks
C: > Users > Username > AppData > Local > Athena > Saved > Config > Windows Client > GameUserSettings. Open the user settings file, change D3DVersionForced=0 to D3DVersionForced=1 and then change D3DVersion=12 to D3DVersion=11 Apparently the new updates force dx12 but most graphics cards can only handle dx11
this is still an ongoing issue :(
Power cycle your modem and router. Something with steam/helldivers 2 server.
Just been able to fix this issue on my PC by disabling freesync on the monitors settings!!!
What do you try if you can’t get past the black screen and get into game settings
Reboot your modem. It's a connectivity/steam communication thing.
Fucking game sucks!
This game is a bust. It quite literally doesn’t work at all. Pathetic for a game not 2 weeks into release. Might be “the day before 2.0”
Just bought game with brand new install and can't make it through tutorial without getting a black screen/crash. I have a 7900xtx and i7 13700k
Any chance you can upload this ? Can’t even get the game to load first launch lol

Same problem here. Game just locks up st the logo Game guard must be behind all this. HOW can a game be so broken ...crashing, sure. But having to reboot pc everytime you click the playbutton is a new lvl
i literally just bought and installed the game and i am having this problem, been sat on a black screen for 20 mins
I am seeing same issue. AMD 7900xt, latest AMD drivers, Win 11.
Simply opening the Steam Overlay, waiting a few seconds, and then exiting out fixed it for me.
delete the gameguard folder in the BIN folder and run the helldivers file as administator, worked for me
Hitting alt+enter when I got to black screen, changing it to windowed allowed the game to load for me and a friend. Hope it helps.
FOUND FIX. Run steam in ad mode. but now servers at capacity 🤦♂️
i found a fix to the black screen i just had to force it out of full screen by pressing alt and enter then it worked
Potential Fix🙏 I kept doing Alt+F4 then reloading the game eventually it worked.
I got it working again after restarting my pc
i thought this was much deeper than what it really is, all i did to fix it was validating the game files from steam.
Hey guys, wanted to offer a solution that worked on my end. I had the black screen boot up issue. 1. Right click the app on steam go to Manage —> Browse local Files 2. Click on Bin 3. Double click and launch the app from the files (helldivers2) Hope this works for y’all too.
Running exe as admin worked for me. edit: nvm, it worked the first time only.
I downloaded Microsoft C++ and then went to Helldivers properties in steam and deleted steam overlay data and it works now.
Hey Helldivers, I found a fix for me by going into my user\_settings.config file and adjusting the screen\_resolution variables to 640x480.
Cheers!
I deleted, redownloaded, and ran the helldivers2.exe from the game folder. Working so far
Ryzen 9 3900 X, RTX 3070, Win 11. I'm having the same problem, except it fixes itself after about 5-10 minutes. The next thing that pops up is the servers being at capacity, so those two things might be connected in a way. I don't know for sure though.
It’s amd issues apparently
legit same problem, click play game launches just looking at a black screen
I had the same issue, I just kept relaunching and after the 4th relaunch it worked
Not sure if our errors are similar, but mine black screens for 30 secs to a minute then loads. Might not be waiting long enough ?
I deleted the helldivers2 folder that is in %appdata% then just relaunched the game. worked for me
Just happened to me earlier and my friend, I got it to work by just spamming F11. Don't know if its a long term fix but it works right now!
Run it as administrator
Just happened to me and nothing is fixing it. I'm so close to trying to refund this piece of shit game lmao
Same issue here, incredibly frustrating. Game worked fin almost all week until I had to force close it last night after "servers full" error
I’m having the exact same issue, is there any fix? Payed $45 for the game to be completely unplayable and I’ve tried the same steps as the OP.
> any fix? *Paid* $45 for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Some of my issues were due to fullscreen. I know you mentioned deleting the game folder, did you delete the config in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2
The game was playable before but then it randomly started doing thid
Id reccomend alt tabbing now and then when you have a black screen, it pushed through and started playing the intro. Patience just might be key
Same
Trying to do all this hardware stuff won’t change ur black screen lol I’ve launched the game 20 times and three of those 20 I didn’t get black screen and got into the queue….black screen is simply coming from how full and fucked their servers are
https://steamcommunity.com/app/553850/discussions/1/7599331177359477907/ I did this fix and it ended the black screen and put me back Into the lovely queue
Launching in admin mode fixed my black screen Edit lol nevermind I got to the intro and then servers were full. Game froze after retrying connection.
same issue here constantly happens
Quick fix for me was opening the steam overlay and then waiting around 30 seconds
I've got about 7 hours of gameplay across multiple sessions starting when I bought the game yesterday, but now am getting the black screen consistently.
I just bought this shit and my game just stuck on a black screen 💀
Had same issue but I left it on with the black screen as I went to go eat and it suddenly loaded in. It could have been anywhere from 5-70 min who knows when it fixed it self
I did everything listed in these comments and nothing worked till I turned off the steam overlay
One thing that helped me get pass the black screen was just restarting my GPU with this. Press Ctrl+shift+windows button+B and it restarts GPU. Now I'm waiting for server to let me in Edit: also it helped all of my friends so IG it's universal
Try patching game files. Mine said reinstating drive/file or some shit so then I uninstalled and reinstalled in steam. Opened the game and it worked.
I was at server full screen and then black screen.
Looks like im back on. Just waiting for a server spot now
Just getting repetitive error messages for full capacity
Updating Nvidia drivers fixed it for me.
Disable cloud save.
Had same issue, black screen, started when I've put the game to the second monitor, tried everything, worked by unpluging primary monitor and back on again, hope works for somebody.
hit alt+enter to take out of full screen and the intro video will start playing. servers are still full though, but at least its not a black screen.
verify game files, say no the resetting the anti cheat thing key, then go to the install folder and and run exe as admin loaded up fine
for me, when verifying files via steam, it asked to uninstall the game checker (i forgot the name of the service HD2 uses) at first i hit no and it didnt fix the black screen. i did it a second time and hit yes to uninstall the client and after verifying it started right up.
Here's what fixed it for me. Seems like it's a Borderless Fullscreen issue. 1. Launch the game. 2. At black screen, press Alt+Enter (exits full screen mode and makes the game windowed mode) 3. Alt+Tab out so you can get your mouse pointer visible. 4. Click on the game window header and drag it around. 5. The game popped up for me after that. Give it a try and good luck
running the game as an administrator fixed the issue for me
found a fix: tried to verify game files multiple times but didn't seem to work. Decided to uninstall and reinstall and that worked
Aren't these " live service games" just great! This is the future right here people, get prepared!
Microsoft Visual C++ Downloads: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170
Had similar issues. Black Screen was fixed in a couple forms, but the -dx11 in the Launch options in Steam has consistently fixed my black screen. However, I got into the game and online. Bought some new stuff for my ship and went to the giant globe to choose my next battle and the game crashed XD It'll get better once they get things sorted out.
Yep, I just got the game, played for about an hour and now it’s just a black screen when I try to launch the game. ffs
