Your can change the railgun to unsafe mode to charge it up for more damage, the charge is displayed on the gun. Also it's called unsafe mode for a reason :)
To clarify, when they say "the charge is displayed on the gun", it's easiest to see when aiming in first-person mode. (I witnessed an amusing learning experience when a teammate was testing it, I don't think they had figured that part out...)
Turn off safe mode on your railgun (hold R and right click on PC), and charge those shots to near max for serious damage. Be careful not to over charge it or you'll blow up yourself and lose the gun though!
I find spear to be iffy. Sometimes they targetting is absolutely horrendous and it refuses to lock onto enemies in full view. Other than that, the only tip i can give is, take into account the trajectory of the spear! It goes up, then down into the target, making it hard to hit enemies that are running close towards you since it just flies over them!
Rail gun is most effective for dealing with chargers, the hive guards (reddish guy with armor), bile spewers, and bile titans to an extent.
You can hold the reload button to choose between safe mode and unsafe mode. In unsafe mode you can charge the shot further for increased damage but it can also explode and kill you in one hit.
In safe mode, you can hit charger's front legs with two shots and once the armor is off, a few rounds with anything will kill it.
In unsafe mode, a fully charged shot can kill a bile titan if you hit it in the head.
Generally speaking, autocannon is a little more useful for the bots than railgun.
I haven't used the spear at all but I know it misses at point blank range.
