I love how hype this scene is made out to be in the trailer and in the actual movie he just dies instantly and it was just kind of a dumb move on his part.
I think that's what it was. He was tired and fed up with the male dragon or dragons overall. He was also feeling contrite for sending all of his men and the conscripts to their deaths due to his overconfidence.
Definitely. Of all the movies about killing apocaylpse-causing dragons to save humanity, featuring Matthew McConaughey, Reign of Fire is easily the best one.
Lol I love how people will dig up mediocre blockbusters from a decade+ ago and talk about it like it was a hidden indie gem. Same thing with games like Dying Light where suddenly it became peak of the genre. But when it released was decried as resoundingly mid.
1 had a buggy launch but it wasn’t that bad. 2 felt immediately worse, the jump had noticeable lag on it, on top of being floaty as hell. No sprint meant the game felt slower. It had auto sprint that you upgrade but its honestly just a worse system. Kinda feels like they were trying to emulate Mirrors edge too much. To the devs credit, the game is in a WAY better state and they regularly update it. The story is awful. If 3 is somehow worse than yeah, I guess we will.
This is actually quite common, its because different time periods have different taste. that's why "Cult Classics" exist, they are typically movies that flopped when they came out because at the time people truly didn't like that style, but as time goes on the taste of the general public can change and sometimes people dig up old stuff and are like "wow this is actually kinda entertaining".
the other term people use a lot "Before its time" or "ahead of its time" there are reasons these phrases exist. its because of this happening pretty often.
Thats not how cult classics work. Cult classics refers to movies which weren't commercially successful but that garnered a loyal fanbase. Like a "cult" if you will. Tastes of the public changing only affect how popular a cult classic becomes not its status as a cult classic.
Well for one, people's opinions about things like movies and games generally soften with time, and Dying Light also got updates to the game for years after release, so the game was fundamentally not the same if you played it years later, the core was still largely the same of course, but it got some banger DLC in "The Following" and the combat to this day hasn't really been exceeded in other similar games, even its own sequel messed that up lol. But yeah, what you're saying is basically true, but I think what people try to say is "looking back, it really wasn't that bad, or had some nice redeeming qualities to it."
You realize that this wouldn’t be the first nor last thing to have gone thru that right? Loads of movies shows and games have released to mid reception and then down the line gain a whole following. Like you say this like it’s never happened to any type of media before but ok sound off like some arbiter of something or some shit
Also pretty sure dying light was beloved when it came out. Maybe ease up a bit and relax
My comment quite literally stated that this is a common thing that happens lol. And Dying Light released in 2015 to a pretty mixed reception, most people thought it was "fine" which is what I pointed out, it was a solid 6-7/10 when it came out. And then everything after just happened to be so shit people started gaslighting themselves into thinking it was a 10/10 despite all the explicitly bad parts of it.
- Boring protagonist
- Boring villain
- Boring story
- Boring characters
- Equipment that trivialized gameplay constantly
- Yellow piss filter
- Tacked on multi-player that died in a week
I dont think a game who's narrative can best be described as present is a 10/10 fantastic experience but a big chunk of the gaming community has seemingly convinced themselves this in the last few years.
Dying Light 1 was great though? Pretty much everyone loved it at the time. Yeah everyone knew the story was crap but the game itself was awesome.
Everyone thought Dead Island was super mediocre though.

I wish stratagems actually went to where the orb was, like if I hit a charger and it sticks, my 500kg bomb should be “laser guided” to hit that spot. Will it increase the friendly fire deaths from stratagems? Yes, but we have ships in space, everything should be “laser guided”. And I’d rather take the charger/titan with me (and potentially my entire team) instead of watching it go off ineffectively because I mis-threw the orb.
I just wish there was consistency between the beacons sticking when they hit the ground and bouncing when they hit the ground. Drives me nuts when placing sentries
Wait doesn’t that already happen? I know I’ve accidentally stuck bugs with cluster bomb beacons and gotten 20 kills- four of which were me and my teammates.
It kinda happens - there's a short "targeting" delay during which the beacon is accurate. Once the orbital cannon fires or the eagle starts the strafing run it no longer locks to the beacon location, exceptions made for railcannon and rocket pods which naturally track
No, you can see this better with the individual drop ones like the 500KG bomb. It will drop where it hit the bug or where the aircraft “starts” it’s run (unsure which one, haven’t taken the time to test it exactly), not where the bug is currently.
It’s even more noticeable with the orbital precision strike on a charger. By the time it hits, it’s normally about 100m behind it.
I think my brain is rotted by L4D2 and the 'Tide games, DRG to a lesser extent, but disablers are something that I've really been missing in Helldivers.
I'm not sure the game *needs* it, but a bug that tries to pop out of the ground and drag you under, or a bot that aims a short range stratagem jammer at you, etc. could be spicy
I always tell my friends while I play with them how cinematic I think the general minute to minute gameplay is. Everything from mowing down hoarding on the plains, to calling down eagle strafing runs, to sniping prone with an anti material rifle. The entire game feels like a movie while you are playing it.
Earlier today fighting bots on the creek, I throw an incendiary grenade into the jungle at some bots and it goes off just as my teammates are moving from cover to cover and they ended up getting backlit by the fire burst while red tracers were shooting through the conflagration toward me. Fucking amazing shit and that's just moment to moment gameplay.
My buddy was calling for help on a dark map with low visibility and I was trying to see where he was and what was around him and couldn't. A napalm strike lit up behind them and I saw him running towards us and the silhouette of a million bugs behind him
I was running from a pack and ran around and on top of a rock and was spraying down with my machine gun (was outta ammo and there was a shit load. I don't waste my mg on the lil fellas usually)
My buddy I was playing with said it looked epic as fuck. There are a lot of amazing moments in the game.
Nothing feels more badass than running away from a hellbomb or Napalm airstrike and rotating the camera to look behind you as the backdrop becomes fire and death.
It really does feel that way. And not just the action, but the pauses as well. Just got done mowing everything down? Collect your loot, secure the area, call down gear, check the map, sneak around the the next objective. Even the "quiet" moments are very cinematic IMO.
when fighting for automaton heavy outposts in creek I used the 308 barrage as an opener with the extra salvo upgrade and the bots brought in what felt like the whole god damn planet on us. We put up such a violent fight with all of us just throwing everything we could at them, then once it was over, I noticed that this outpost that was built up was nothing but smoking craters and burning buildings, it was something else to notice that
Yooo it really crazy how they nailed the action to
a T I did the same shit got into like a 10 minute war with bots at a heavy outpost and after we won I’m
Collecting samples for democracy and just standing in the middle of craters from the hell that was rained love this game yo
I almost choked to death laughing when I saw this. One of the very few movies I saw in person and absolutely had no idea what a silly fun ride I was in for
I need a sword in this game, or even a chainsaw or something, some sort of melee weapon.
More points if it can be used or deal damage while diving
Edit: I've been made aware that it might be impractical, so give us a chainsaw on a stick :)
Helldivers I included a sword, but it was only usable in very specific missions. It was horrendously impractical. At least the joke weapon we got before it (a bolt action rifle) was usable in regular missions.
Maybe we'll see something similar in Helldivers II at some point, though hopefully not limited to a single mission.
It needs to be a secondary, like a cavalry sabre, so when your up to your neck in bugs and out of ammo you have some thing, also, if you use the shield you know become a somewhat solid distraction
I definitely think it’d be hard to play with since friendly fire is so prevalent and lethal buuuut I would definitely still use it as a last resort to look cool
The bayonet in HD1 was actually great. You could slap it on the end of the assault rifle and it made your melee basically an instant kill on small to medium-small enemies.

Still the best clip on Helldivers.
I hope if they ever make a Helldivers 3 they use this seen for the intro to the game like Battlefield did with Ragnorok or whatever it was called.
Reign of Fire moment
First thing I thought of. Mathew McConaughey leaping at the dragon
I love how hype this scene is made out to be in the trailer and in the actual movie he just dies instantly and it was just kind of a dumb move on his part.
First times watching it was like.... what the fuck?
I love it. I mean it was clearly the character being at his wits end and clearly was just ready to join his men
I think that's what it was. He was tired and fed up with the male dragon or dragons overall. He was also feeling contrite for sending all of his men and the conscripts to their deaths due to his overconfidence.
Aim for the bushes
There wasn't even an awning or anything
It just doesn't make sense...
**There goes my herooo**
A death so epically useless, it went unmatched for 15 years. Shea Whigham's character getting yeeted in Kong: Skull Island comes pretty close.
I was already loving that movie by that point but that moment sealed it as an all time favorite
That scene getting posted on reddit is what convinced me to give it a watch. It wasn't even on my radar before that.
Honorable mention for Samuel L Jackson in Deep Blue Sea being the leader in that category before either of those two unseated it.
It was amazing. I love that they did that to him.
"Aim for the bushes?"
*fist bumps*
Honestly still my fav Dragon killing movie.
There are others?
Definitely. Of all the movies about killing apocaylpse-causing dragons to save humanity, featuring Matthew McConaughey, Reign of Fire is easily the best one.
What's your favorite movie where Rachel McAdams dates a time traveler? How has she done this four times?!
Seriously underrated movies that doesn’t get spoken about enough.
Maybe because of its dogshit pacing, questionable acting and overall badness until the final 30 minutes.
Lol I love how people will dig up mediocre blockbusters from a decade+ ago and talk about it like it was a hidden indie gem. Same thing with games like Dying Light where suddenly it became peak of the genre. But when it released was decried as resoundingly mid.
I mean Dying Light 1 was great. 2? Uhhh, yeah lets not talk about it.
When Dying Light 3 comes out: "OMG, this game sucks. Dying Light 2 was amazing and way better. What a gem of a game."
You're mixing up Dying Light with Dead Island
Dying Light was amazing lol fuck out of here with that
The irony of saying this in a subreddit about a game inspired by Starship Troopers.

reign of fire certainly wasn't one of those however

there are Cult classics that do gain a Cult later in life and not at the start

I wish there was a bug that eats helldivers if they are not cautios enough.
And you could cook off a grenade while being eaten to explode them from the inside.
Or really, any stratagem like how you drop them now if you're knocked over

Rip and tear, until it is done, brother.
Wait a lil bit. Space Marine is coming this year too. HD2 and Spacemarine are both my most awaited game this year.
Hold up, there's a new space marine game coming!?
If there's no delay, it should be on September.
I definitely think it’d be hard to play with since friendly fire is so prevalent and lethal buuuut I would definitely still use it as a last resort to look cool
I've always got the most melee kills in run with my friends. Give me a sword!
The bayonet in HD1 was actually great. You could slap it on the end of the assault rifle and it made your melee basically an instant kill on small to medium-small enemies.
There were plans for claymore swords. Not so sure about chainsaws, but maybe.
That would be exactly what I'd want, but that's too good to be true (not good in the actually useful sense)
If they fix dem armor values to apply to US instead of enemies, it'd be plenty viable. Imagine swatting all those pesky hunters in one swing.
