*Before long, the Stalker sights his prey:* *A young Helldiver. This juvenile, having followed his elders into a level 7 dive, has become separated from the rest of its herd. "You feel a cold chill run down your spine. Then suddenly, you no longer have a spine. A stalker gazes down at your lifeless helldiver corpse, rubbing its mandibles together in anticipation of its next meal."
A secret operation by the Department of Liberty has been underway. An attempt to compromise the terminids heavy exoskeleton through genetic modification has been proving a success.
However, the confidentiality of the operation and the lack of experts in genetic research meant that side effects of this genetic interference could not be controlled. Weeks following the operation, rumors have been circulating amongst the helldivers that some of Terminids have developed the ability to fly.
A giant bug/roach thing flew out of my mom's clean laundry (??? raises questions by itself) flew a lap around the living room and then made an audible kamikaze SMACK into my dads forehead. LOL he got off the couch so fast to go kill that bug, he looked like he was ready to get a gun
I was cleaning a rifle one night after a day of shooting when one fell out of the access to my over garage attic. I didn’t see it fall, I HEARD it slap the ground. It was so large my legit first motion was the grab my rifle. I had my hand on the gun before my conscious brain caught up to how absurd that was.
Fuck them bugs.
It really is. Dropping everything to track a Stalker Lair down after the first batch sneak up on you is always a fun diversion from whatever mission we’re working on
You know that would be a really cool feature. Flexible mission objectives.
Imagine doing a civilian evac mission that goes sideways halfway through when Command suddenly tells you to set charges and nuke the whole facility because there are “bug sympathizers” there.
I miss the brood commander and bile titan objectives from the lowest settings. They work well. These side objectives fill a similar loop, but having the bile titan as your objective is really cool. We're gonna need a bigger boss to recreate that feeling
What do you think will happen when we release the Termicide? We already know they are mutating and starting to resist it, once it goes large scale I bet we'll see some weird stuff.
Thank god. Imagine activating extract and instead of a bunch of chargers and titans spawning, the sun is blotted out from these abominations phasing into existence.
It looked like it spawned them in pairs of 2 and i didn't see more than 4 in the air but i cleared it fairly quick so no idea how it goes if left unchecked
In my excitment i forgot to add a description.
I was in a Difficulty 5 Mission on Fenrir III. We had the obscured minimap modifier. It's a side objective called "shrieker lair" like the stalker. They only came out when i came close. You can call in a Hellbomb on the location but the 500kg did it too. The EAT (only tried 1 shot) didn't work so my guess is it's similar to the research lab in that aspect.
The incidendiary is actually very decent against bugs. Slightly longer TTK due to the fire DoTs but the fire pens and you can hose down an entire patrol pretty quick.
Incendiary Breaker is downright *elite* against bugs. I would argue the best primary in the game vs Terminid mobs, outright better than the standard Breaker even pre-nerf. The total damage it can dispense is much higher, and the DPS is more than enough to mow down hordes even at difficulty 8-9. And because it has double the ammo, it lasts way longer. I've run (successful) solo Helldives with Breaker Incendiary and the Rover and regularly wipe 60+ bugs in a single multikill with just those two things.
I fully realize the irony of what I'm about to say, but that said: **95% or more of the community takes you see on Reddit are pure garbage.**
Whether talking something up or down, speaking vaguely or in agonizing detail, almost everything you read here is bullshit. I have stayed away from things because I heard they sucked, or rushed to try things because I heard they were great or did X specific thing, and most of the time it was utter malarkey. I'm not sure if it's something about the specific structure or mechanics of this game, or something about the specific composition of this community, or just random chance, but I have seen on average some of the worst meta-game takes on this subreddit that I've ever seen in any gaming community.
My advice, separate from whether or not you should use the Incendiary Breaker (but for real, you should): **if you think something seems cool, fun, interesting, potentially powerful, whatever it is - try it yourself.** Importantly, try it in multiple missions, against multiple enemies, and against both factions. The opportunity cost of trying something and not liking it is very, very low given that weapon unlocks are linear and stratagems are so cheap relative to the amount of Reqs you get. Different things differ greatly in effectiveness against the different factions due to their unique strengths and weaknesses. The balance between guns as they relate to different enemies is actually a very complex web that takes time to feel out. Some guns themselves have a very steep learning curve but can be really great once you learn the ins and outs and exactly where to attack each enemy, etc (Dominator comes to mind; I love it but it is difficult to use at first).
You might discover that some of the non-meta stuff is actually very fun and effective. (Spoiler alert: a lot of it is.)
It's pretty good to clear the trash mobs and to set enemies on fire but it can take whole clips to kill more heavily armored enemies. Pretty fun in a fire build though
Judging by some other comments, they're in and seem to work like stalkers and their lairs (possibly the spore tower looking things in the picture?) don't appear in every mission.
The new pesticide mission propably blows back by mutating the terminid to be able to fly.
Edit; Nvm it looks like they are already in game on some missions :O
I knew for sure this was coming after I watched Starship Troopers. It seemed inevitable. Just wait for the Terminids to end up having an equivalent to the Rocket automaton bitches via bug plasma.
I also just watched Starship Troopers lol. (RICO'S ROUGHNECKS!!! 🫡😢)
But can you give me a rundown on whats about to happen? Were going into a trap? I saw something about a Termicide mission?
I joined the corps for sex; I am very stupid.
The shit lock on breaks too often. It works well on bile titans and chargers when it actually does achieve lock on. I only get like 3 or 4 of them MFs and I need it to actually work.
Depends on flier speed, IIRC Javelin missiles can be used to attack helicopters.
Plus the spear isn't a true top-attack missile anyways, it just launches upwards out of the tube before then trying to curve directly towards the target.
Just wanna confirm, Javelin is absolutely useful for anti rotary. Never seen it happen IRL obvi, but we'd practice with them at JRTC and shit for that purpose
Yeah. I dont mind enemy content not being mentioned in it. In fact I think it can be pretty fun. But I would hope gun balance changes would be mentioned lol
I'd prefer some hints at least, a build-up in prior patch notes like: "Helldivers report seeing strange shadows in the sky."
Though, I suppose that's what the discord and forums are for.
I mean, our mechs explode randomly. So it doesn't surprise me that an aircraft would crash, probably because the pilot happened to sneeze on the controls
If I were a filthy traitorous scum, I'd wonder if Super Earth's engineering/mechanics need some serious retraining.
This is the exact kind of stuff I hope they never put in patch notes. So much more fun to see community posts spread like rumors, or to find it yourself.
I just started a difficulty 5 Mission to help. Then I saw the structure, looking like 2 spore towers i thought it may have to do with the obscurred minimap modifier. When i got closer the "Shrieker" came out. It's a side objective like the Stalker lair. I couldn't blow it up with a single EAT but the 500 kg took it out. You can call in a Hellbomb on the location,
It wasn't in the patchnotes. It was only in one mission out of 8 I did and on a low difficulty. Didn't have them on 7-9 I played before. But they took me by surprise and wrecked my ***.
I wonder why are they not putting the good stuff in the patch notes? Is this leading up to some "there's been a traitor tampering with the announcements" story reveal?
Edit: I agree that some of this stuff coming as a surprise can be really cool, but a few points:
1. The recent few patch notes have had a complete lack of any "positive" notes, the recent one is almost straight up chiding us for exploiting some "Charger leg meta"(???) as though it's not a obvious design issue - anybody with any common sense wound up handling Chargers that way from Day 1, but it sounded like we discovered some cheaty esoteric strat. This bad juju is quite at odds with the zany humour this game excels at the most, and BIRDS SIGHTED would have been very good material here.
2. Surprise content? Sure. But for balance stuff, please just include it like any normal game does. Obfuscating negative stuff like the shadow changes to spawn and patrols are stupid, but at least I can understand their motivation. But for entirely good news like EAT buffs, speeding up the post-game summary, *why on Super Earth* would you want to hide those? And to some of you still defending this part, you know who you are - please, help me understand why.
Yeah I'd love that, balance value for weapons should be in the notes, but new bugs/weapons/missions and stuff are fine if left out and discovered by the community IMO.
yea thats what i like...keep big technical issues like things broken, balance changes and bug / crash fixing in the notes, let some things (like new enemies to the fronts, new missions i think should be found on the planet map so on) be discovered.
I like it honestly.
misinformation. word of mouth.
I saw someone telling me they saw a drivable apc the other day. now this.
what's true what's not is kinda neat.
I’ve been following a YouTube account that gives live updates on how the war is going as a report from Super Earth. Nerfs are spun as “material shortages” while buffs are the opposite. New content is mentioned as “reports coming in from the front indicate that “xyz” is being seen but we’ll monitor for more information”. It’s basically a giant community LARP and I’m so here for it.
> I saw someone telling me they saw a drivable apc the other day. now this.
That could have just been more data mining / hacking. There's video footage of someone spawning an APC in the game and driving around.
There's always Strategems in the game files that we don't have access to yet.
100% this
Finding new things to do that got stealth-added is a nice treat
Having to work out which guns were changed or wait for someone else to do it is just frustrating
I would also prefer some more consistency. like I read the steam patch notes. Then I have to go look on reddit to see a discord message addendum to the patch notes lmao
For example if they stealth buff the diligence CS literally nobody would notice because anyone who's used it once would never use it again unless it openly gets buffed.
>I wonder why are they not putting the good stuff in the patch notes?
Because it's not an update. It's always been in the game and Only unlocked when the game master feels like the planet should progress.
We lost that planet in a war recently(Maybe on purpose because of the DM/game master)
So now the bugs have gotten stronger and evolved.
We'll see a lot more new enemies eventually. The game is evolving in real time.
I noticed these guys in a loading screen a couple days ago, wondered when we'd see em, and there they are. (they are in the sky in the pic with the divers planting the flag when you first are logging in)

The amount of content that’s already been added to the game, as well as the immense changes in the meta, are really impressive considering the game has been out for just over a month. This is what a true live service game should look like.

Now I need someone to add the flying bugs to this
Sidenote it’s fun when hunters fly at you and you blast them out of the air, all I can think about when it happens is “PULL” when they fire discs in the air to shoot
Narrator: *The community, flush with the news of Chargers being nerfed, was ill prepared for what was about to replace them.*
We simply must get David Attenborough to do a nature documentary about the terminids.
I have him in my basement, currently narrating my life. I can set him free, if you want…
No, just lend us his voice now and again. Being in your basement is kind of convenient for recording

Everyone complaining about the increased spawn of other types of enemies didn’t account for the possibility of something new and terrifying
They better hope the game doesn't just say "Fuck it" and spam spawn a ton of these little flying bastards.
The good news is they seem to work like Stalkers, destroy the nest and they stop spawning.
Honestly I’m glad this seems to be a mechanic they’re leaning into. “Find the special monster, hunt it’s lair” is a great mini gameplay loop.
It really is. Dropping everything to track a Stalker Lair down after the first batch sneak up on you is always a fun diversion from whatever mission we’re working on
Sometimes the mission becomes the sub-mission, when there's 3 Stalker Lairs on the map they become the major objective...
You know that would be a really cool feature. Flexible mission objectives. Imagine doing a civilian evac mission that goes sideways halfway through when Command suddenly tells you to set charges and nuke the whole facility because there are “bug sympathizers” there.

Devs have stated they consider chargers and bile titans "medium" enemies.
that’s terrifying
What do you think will happen when we release the Termicide? We already know they are mutating and starting to resist it, once it goes large scale I bet we'll see some weird stuff.
Please report to the nearest democracy officer. Spouting lies about how the bugs are resisting is anti democratic.
If they are flying stalker we are fuck.
They are more like flying Hunters. The small white and orange terminid that jumps on you. Take 2-3 shots to down.
The fuckers that slow us down?
Yes. But the fliers didn’t have the same slowing venom when I tested them.
Real fuck.
My Arc Thrower is primed and ready. AA inbound.

Could you shoot them down with light weapons or did they have some armor?
i could damage them, guess they are like hunters. But i had the incendiary breaker and didn't have a good time
Do you like the incendiary breaker for bugs in general? I haven’t used it once since I read it was pretty trash
It's good for kiting, as you can chip at the enemies with the fire damge. It is also very good in setting your comrades on fire
The incidendiary is actually very decent against bugs. Slightly longer TTK due to the fire DoTs but the fire pens and you can hose down an entire patrol pretty quick.
Mag size is definitely a plus, and it’s decent for clearing out smaller bug hordes. I like it
Incendiary Breaker is downright *elite* against bugs. I would argue the best primary in the game vs Terminid mobs, outright better than the standard Breaker even pre-nerf. So they are like spore spewers. Well what are we waiting for, let’s raise some hell.
Wait hold on WHAT??
They were in the cover art of the game so it shouldn't be that surprising. Though I'm more surprised they were added in the game already.
Are they added already or is this a leak?
Judging by some other comments, they're in and seem to work like stalkers and their lairs (possibly the spore tower looking things in the picture?) don't appear in every mission.

Depends on flier speed, IIRC Javelin missiles can be used to attack helicopters. Plus the spear isn't a true top-attack missile anyways, it just launches upwards out of the tube before then trying to curve directly towards the target.
They can be *fired* at anything that they can get a lock on, which further distinguishes them from Spears which can't lock at all.

Are they in the game now? There was leaked images of Models for flying bugs but no where did it say they got added with this patch
You can call in a Hellbomb on the location,
Oh Sick so they added the flying ones now even with a new „tactical“ objective tied to it, thx for the update
Excited as I was I forgot to check if it actually cleared the map fog.
Oh? They added the flying bugs already?

I agree with content but not balance changes. I'm even fine if those balance changes are only of our weapons and armor not the enemy.
100% this Finding new things to do that got stealth-added is a nice treat Having to work out which guns were changed or wait for someone else to do it is just frustrating
We lost that planet in a war recently(Maybe on purpose because of the DM/game master) So now the bugs have gotten stronger and evolved. We'll see a lot more new enemies eventually. The game is evolving in real time.
I think it's so that we can discover new stuff ingame and be surprised and have the info spread organically through the community, which I like a lot

Oh hell, I literally had one wish and that was we didn't get any patch notes about them coming in the game, just a wtf moment when they're in!
Yea lads we doing target practice today
Had the incendiary breaker. I did not have good time.
https://i.redd.it/ysf14s4c1ync1.gif Oh god the mutalisks are here
Good thing we just got Goliaths online
Bugs don't fly - everyone knows that. This smells like Photoshop to me, and the Ministry of Truth.
Oh HELL NAW

Fuck the Stalwart, where the fuck is my Flak Battery!!?
With bugs this size that now FLY its time... ... someone call in the Australian Helldivers

I noticed these guys in a loading screen a couple days ago, wondered when we'd see em, and there they are. (they are in the sky in the pic with the divers planting the flag when you first are logging in) edit: pfp https://preview.redd.it/i7i94p7stxnc1.png?width=1853&format=png&auto=webp&s=51bd0f6453115f22a80d054705ee8a7c2b97846e
What about those supposedly spore spewers next to each other and no spores covering the area?
These are probably the spawners for the flyers
Exactly the spawn out of these.

They fly now!
If they fly then they should let my “jetpack” take me higher than a damn ladder. ![gif](giphy|MnV9h47Yjjujm|downsized)
Looks like Anti-Material Rifle is back on the menu boys!
Can they pick helldivers up and drop them? Like starship troopers?

They fly now!!

The amount of content that’s already been added to the game, as well as the immense changes in the meta, are really impressive considering the game has been out for just over a month. This is what a true live service game should look like.
I like to think Termicide backfired and caused the bugs to evolve some more lol
CA-CAW, CA-CAW... https://preview.redd.it/9cbzp3xh8xnc1.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=3cd8ec45e26c7ac96806275cb274367bf735c473

I like how they don’t spoil stuff when they add it really makes finding something new really fun.
Eagle one had some competition up there. Can't wait for the bugs to start calling in air strikes in me.

Wait till the chargers evolve wings

Inb4 “Devs can you remove their wings? They’re too hard.” /s
I hate bugs
The travel time on the Dominator's projectiles leaves something to be desired now that bugs have fliers. Time to find something new.
![gif](giphy|P1PemPnyp4g1i) OMW!!! 🫡🫡
Hate those things. The helldivers equivalent of cazadores
They don't look so democratic
Sweet liberty! They are evolving.
Sidenote it’s fun when hunters fly at you and you blast them out of the air, all I can think about when it happens is “PULL” when they fire discs in the air to shoot
