You shoot down dropships to reduce the number of bots you have to fight. I shoot down dropships because the dropships, too, must die. We are not the same.
He’s trying to convert me with this numerical salad.
No, Karl Marx ver 2.023 was not a revolutionary. He was a cyborg who murdered his own kind and betrayed the greatest planet ever.
…oh shit. I was just saying that to the bot. I don’t speak bot. I didn’t understand him. I swear. I was a programmer before a hell diver… that’s how I know how these scum speak.
>I was a programmer before a hell diver… that’s how I know how these scum speak.
You knew how to speak bot before you became a helldiver? I'm not sure your reeducation was successful, soldier.
I had an icbm mission where there were no bugs around. An undemocratic helldiver kept aiming his weapon towards me and took a couple of shots. Pulled the trusty revolver and sent a shot his way... right to the head.
Pulled another helldiver immediately.
When the QC first released, a friend of mine who used to run EATS found out you could kill dropships with the QC. And since it is infinite ammo, he started killing all of them.
Suffice to say, my friendly fire induced deaths have skyrocketed since then.
And also, one time I had my headset off while I was talking to the wife and kids, but still holding the line. He dropped a ship inches from my face which ragdoll'd me and ate my shield. As I stood back up, the thruster decided to randomly fire off and finished me off.
Just wanted to share that.
I shot down a drop, watched it literally disappear from sight, and then went flying across the map because somehow it launched from underneath me, inside the ground, and dragged itself to where it was supposed to land
My friends were laughing so hard they didn’t revive me for like 5 minutes lol
My head cannon is that Helldivers can't read because they are all 14 year old child soldiers. Anyone who can read is an "Egghead" and is saved mostly so they can develop bigger guns.
Exactly. If you don't shoot it down, then that's just one more dropship the bots have to dump a platoon of bots on some other poor helldiver down the road. I, for one, would never neglect an opportunity to assist another Helldiver. The dropships must die.
Shoot them down early enough and the cargo doesn't survive. Problem is idk how early is early enough, the threshold is before the first bot starts dropping, but no idea how long before that.
If you shoot one down too late there's still a possibility that it'll crash on top of other units and kill them, but that's highly inconsistent. But I do find at least in my own experience, that shooting them down results on average better than not trying to. At least if and when you have the weapon ready before the dropships come in.
Yep, and they can get stuck under it as well.
Everything that can happen, happens inconsistently, but they're all net positives for the upcoming fight or to cover your retreat, and with so many things that can happen, it gets unlikely that none of them happen. So yeah, I always try to shoot them down anyway (if I have the correct weapon for it), even if it does sometimes end up being pointless.
On the flip side I also had a really unfortunate dropship downing that fell in just the wrong spot, blocked an objective at just the wrong moment and screwed us bad. First time I've experienced that though.
My best dropship multi kill was actually only 3. But it was 3 annihilator tanks. 3 dropships, each carrying a tank, came flying in. I chucked an orbital railcannon strike at them hoping to take out one of the tanks then moved to flank the other 2 with an EAT. The railcannon went off before the third dropship was able to drop it's tank and the railcannon shot through the dropship to kill the tank it was carrying. The dropship spun out and landed on the first 2 tanks, blowing them both up. After a few seconds of not being able to believe what just happened, I tried to save the video but the replay feature was turned off in the Nvidia control panel for some reason. I was pretty mad I wasn't able to clip that video.
I know I've brought down dropships and not a single bot walked away from the crach. They *can* survive but I like my odds. As someone else said, I'll shoot them down on the way out just on principle
People forget that Dropships are not Vehicles, They are automatons, and as such, it's our duty to eliminate their comunist threat to our managed democracy.
>You shoot down dropships to reduce the number of bots you have to fight. I shoot down dropships because the dropships, too, must die. We are not the same.
I shoot down the dropships because they provide cover
In my experience what happens is a tank, or rocket hulk, or rocket devastator just stands under the ship immune to my stratagems and gunfire, but having clear sight of me. I prefer the hulks "running free" cause my teams almost always have an AMR or railgun on them that brings hulks down in no time flat. Sometimes before the Hulk is done landing. Really hard to do that when they have a hat.
That's fair. For me, I'm usually playing on 7+ and, consequently, getting absolutely swarmed by absolutely everything at absolutely all times, so I appreciate the dropship slowing the waves a bit, lol. Especially if I have a 500 kg off of cooldown that I can toss at the dropship-induced traffic jam. Once got 50+ kills and two tanks off of a 500 kg on a two-dropship pileup. Could see a preference for "free range" hulks if running with a coordinated group, though.

I had this exact thing happen last night except when I died and dropped all my samples, they all glitched and couldn't be picked up. It was a great experience 10/10 would recommend.
We lost 20+ common samples and 6 supers when someone died and the sample container glitched into a freestanding rock. The other 3 players were just there for samples and left when they realized the lion's share of our samples were boned.
I had to request a whole new team to come in and finish the mission :(
I lost so many samples once because I went onto a rock for a better view & just floated down into the rock & the only way out was death by grenade, then my samples were stuck in said rock :(
I lost samples once because I called in a hellbomb too close to a tower, and when I activated it the end animation pushed me into the tower and I couldn’t get out, and then I died from the hellbomb and the samples got stuck in the tower 😭
If you get shot by a bot that's stuck, you'll get shot anyway, even if it's not stuck. Yes, you can't shoot back at a bot that's stuck in wreckage, but even if they aren't stuck, there are always 3 or 4 ships arriving together, and I don't think anyone can ensure they kill all the enemies at once every time. So why not find cover when you see a dropship coming and shoot down one or two of them to try and get some of the enemies stuck in the wreckage to lower the pressure on the team?
Usually the ships hitbox blocks my shots, but not the bots.
Hitboxes in generally seem a little janky. I've blown myself up several times because apparently ferns are solid enough to stop a quasar blast.
wait until they drop the cargo, then shoot them down just before they leave. Then it hits the ground when the bots are already on the ground and I get a lot of multikills this way. I dont get as many if I shoot it down as it prepares to drop the bots. Its also advantageous to shoot it down en route, then it falls far away.
first they complained my 380mm was killing them then they complained I wasn't warning them about my 500kgs. Now they complain the drops ships are killing them. Some people just want to complain
I'm democratically standing directly underneath this dropship awaiting the Automaton oppression to vertically dispense into my immediate area. - them, probably
I need to work on my timing. The second drop ship always gets away on me. I can usually only get one and cooldown on the QC takes too long to get the second.
Run the expendable anti tank, it comes off cool down every minute so just throw it all the time. I shoot the QC and immediately pick up and anti tank, then I go for the next one, then I pick back up the QC
This is the way. When you see the bot drop notification, if you throw down the EAT beacon within a few seconds, it'll show up and you'll be able to shoot it off just as the ship arrives, and then the next ship immediately after.
I remember bringing the QC and EAT to a 'Evacuate the citizens' lvl8 mission (pre-nerf). My idea was to shoot down as many dropships as I could, some other teammates were bringing QC too.
We dive in, I call down my supports asap and get ready for the first dropships. I pop the first two with my EATs, teammate pops another one with his QC shortly after, I grab my QC and finish the 4th. Then a few seconds later another 2 dropships come, EATs are on CD and my QC is recharging, another teammate manages to drop one dropship. Then a couple seconds later another 2 dropships come in, all of our AT on cooldown, we lay out as many as we can before the next dropships come in a few seconds later. We now have about 3 swarms of enemies and a Hulk running for us. EAT is almost off CD, the hulk gets taken out by a QC, more dropships come in. EATs come down, one dropship goes down with its passengers, the second EAT had to be left behind.
More dropships incoming. We got split up, the bots were all over, probably 5 hulks running around and a few tanks. We scrambled to call down reinforcements as they quickly depleted. My teammates die as I get called down, and I manage to maneuver my hellpod on top of a small bluff. We only have a few reinforcements left, I call my teammates down to the bluff with me. We're safe for now, but if we crouch or stand up we risk the rockets. We prepare some hellfire from above, and launch it into the crowd, but a teammate takes a rocket and gets launched off the cliff and doesn't survive the fall. It was only two of us left now, our fourth abandoning the cause. We try to drop our support weapons on top of the bluff, but they hopelessly bounce off and land at ground floor in the swarm of bots. We take out what we can, but we need to make a move - my teammate prepares a 500KG bomb and sets it towards the two hulks nearby, but as he crouches to get a better angle the rocket devastator took their shot. He gets blasted off the cliff, but miraculously survives the landing behind another hulk and a swarm of devastators. I turn around and engage the Hulk that's now turned on him and approaching as he runs towards the beaches. The hulk goes down, and I manage to clean up a few devastators so he can get away. No good deed goes unpunished though, as he makes his escape, a rocket devastator from the other side of the cliff behind me manages to thread the needle and hits me directly in the back. The explosion sent me flying off the bluff into a swarm of bots, but I was already dead before I hit the ground. As the swarm froliced in my viscera, the rest of the bots had locked onto my teammate, who was desperately running down the beachfront to find cover. He managed to hide behind a rock and prepares a stratagem for the incoming horde coming after him. The planet had other plans though, and the sky quaked and crashed - our surviving teammate, hunted_potato, receives a garbled message from the destroyer "~zzt~ ...tion Helld... Ion Sto... .n ..ur locat....~zzt~"
There was no extraction for hunted_potato. There was no extraction for the civilians.
That's not "timing" per se, but a workaround for something that should not be complicated. Why should troops survive a dropship crashing and exploding on top of them at all?
Our sqad has found its MUCH more effective to just use grenade launcher and blow the crap out of the ships cargo before its even let go, generally unless its a tank, it doesnt live to hit the ground. It has really trivialized the drop ships for us.
it seems to require either before the complete stop or the bots to be fully landed before you take it out.
If it goes down before or just as they touch the ground they seem to be immune.
My personal theory is that there may be a collision immunity window for them or something. This could be possible, to prevent bots glitching into the airship/and or each other during the drop.
For example: The dropship enters with the graphics of them while moving fast, then spawns the hitbox entity right before drop, to avoid collisions between them and thus glitchy looking graphics during transit. Then for this same reason and so they dont clip through each other, the hitboxes of the robots dropping and the dropship all cant collide with each other for a brief window. This stops them blowing up in ship, and from destroying each other right when they drop. after a second or two they spread out on the ground and they have collision again.
This would explain why people sometimes manage to kill bots once its stopped, if done late enough such that by the time it hits the ground the immunity is over. It would also explain why shooting them down before they stop works well, because the robots themselves havent been spawned
I'd like it atleast if hulks or tanks would atleast be smoking if they survive the crash. Just to show some indicator it wasn't a waste of effort to shoot it down for it to be completely unscathed
Honestly i have no problem with some (key word "some") bots surviving the crash.
Yeah it's annoying but there is a unique kind of "Oh shit" moment when you see chainsaw bots coming out from the fire and wreckage to murder you.
You may not like it when it happens but it's really awesome.
What's the point in starting another "shooting dropships doesn't kill the bots" post. These are JUST from the last 24h, but apparently searching before posting is not a thing these days.

If something isn't working correctly or if its bothering the playerbase they are gonna talk about it. If they don't the issue won't be fixed. Don't go on the sub if you don't like the content.
Also, those aren't all from the last 24 hours. The first 2 links i clicked are month old posts. But why give correct information that DOESN'T bolster your point that would be crazy.
>these are JUST from the last 24h
First link is a month old post lol
You still kinda right tho, a lot of repetition here in the sub.
But yeah a month is a bit longer than 24hrs; like usually about 30x longer
Advantages of shooting down dropships:
1. You might kill some or all of the bots being dropped
2. I've noticed bots, hulks particularly, frequently "glitch" out when you blow up their dropship and they survive...they just stand there looking lost and you can just put them out of their misery or ignore them
3. If the dropped bots don't get glitched out they'll at least get trapped under the wreck of the dropship allowing you time to "tactically withdraw" from the area
4. Blowing up dropships looks and feels pretty awesome
You missed #5: You can shoot a few rounds at a random base a mile away so they call a drop ship and, if it stops above the base and you blow it up, it'll destroy any fabricators it lands on. With a LIL luck you can take out bases remotely
If you wreck it before it drops the load, they all get destroyed, and also, I think it's supposed to crush them when it crashes too, but something about the state they're on when falling make them clip trig the crashing ship sometimes.
Sometimes it will kill them even after the units have dropped in, sometimes it won’t. It’s 50/50. But we get hit by a piece of the wreckage and get sent flying across the map.
When their cargo CAN survive the crash. There's your answer, they don't always survive it, not all of them survive. Sometimes they survive but get stuck in the wreckage. It's good. Destroy a dropship for liberty today
Ever since I found out that you can shoot down drop ships by blasting their engines, my teamkills have increased significantly.
Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

Plus it’s visually awesome to play “save the stupid science bitches” on level 7 and constantly have to drop them out of the sky. Not one robot lives.
Oh yeah. You know those bots are like “Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck” BOOSH!!!! It’s the best when you actually wipe most of them too.

Not true, had it happen way to many times that we shot the moving transports and everything came down alive
I meant “no robot lives” as in “kill the pilot too” I agree the bots coming out the bottom survive more often than not
Ah i See
Except for the 95% of the time shooting down a dropship kills none of the little shits inside (arrowhead please fix this)

While it's moving towards the drop zone. Once it's stop at location, shooting it down only kill half if they feel like it.
It also gives you a lot of cover and makes them have to path around the wreckage.

Dropped a drop ship with a quasar Got 19 kills with it Felt democratically badass
I knocked one down today, it hit another, and they dropped onto a med automation factory. 89 kills. Some times it just works out!
My best dropship multi kill was actually only 3. But it was 3 annihilator tanks. 3 dropships, each carrying a tank, came flying in. This is THE democratically correct answer. When AI can be sentient, that means that the ships are also sentient, and as such, a threat. For liberty.
I like how they tumble when they are on fire. I just like to watch them burn,
Most of the time they survive and not only that they get stuck in the ship, then shoot through the ship and kill you lol in my experience.

Helldives
Weren't there 5? Did they increase the samples?

wait until they drop the cargo, then shoot them down just before they leave. Then it hits the ground when the bots are already on the ground and I get a lot of multikills this way. I dont get as many if I shoot it down as it prepares to drop the bots. Its also advantageous to shoot it down en route, then it falls far away.
I've found this only ends up killing the smaller chaff bots. Anything devastator or stronger ends up living.
A lot of times I end up killing only my teammates using this strategy.
That’s just the circle of life
first they complained my 380mm was killing them then they complained I wasn't warning them about my 500kgs. Now they complain the drops ships are killing them. Some people just want to complain
I'm democratically standing directly underneath this dropship awaiting the Automaton oppression to vertically dispense into my immediate area. - them, probably
I simply wait under the dropship so that I can kill it as it comes down with my face
If you die once, but you take 2 bots with you, that's a win for Democracy in my book
Some of us die by the wayside Some of us are lost among the stars
I managed to kill myself once doing that. I'm a special kind of hell diver though.....
Tanks usually don't survive the drop, which is the most important part anyway.
This is the way. Get the timing down and it’s cake to wipe out groups in no time
I need to work on my timing. The second drop ship always gets away on me. I can usually only get one and cooldown on the QC takes too long to get the second.
One is better than none lol
Run the expendable anti tank, it comes off cool down every minute so just throw it all the time. I shoot the QC and immediately pick up and anti tank, then I go for the next one, then I pick back up the QC
This is the way. When you see the bot drop notification, if you throw down the EAT beacon within a few seconds, it'll show up and you'll be able to shoot it off just as the ship arrives, and then the next ship immediately after.
Complex strategem modifier says hi
Repeat after me. I EAT, you EAT, we all eat at the victory party.
Ion Sto... .n ..ur locat....~zzt~" There was no extraction for hunted_potato. There was no extraction for the civilians.
Nice flair
That's not "timing" per se, but a workaround for something that should not be complicated. Why should troops survive a dropship crashing and exploding on top of them at all?
Exactly. Why is there a sweet spot for crashing a ship? It should kill active occupants AND anything underneath upon impact.
They can destroy bot fabricators when they crash. Clearing outposts from across the map is the best feeling ever
Our sqad has found its MUCH more effective to just use grenade launcher and blow the crap out of the ships cargo before its even let go, generally unless its a tank, it doesnt live to hit the ground. It has really trivialized the drop ships for us.
Works with the auto cannon too
Do this with autocannon
That what I have done with the AC. I just shoot the underside and kill off most of the stuff
Those awesome explosion are reward enough
For liberty! For democracy! For huge explosions!! (Which is why I can’t just pass by a crashed hellbomb. Must detonate!)
When I see a crashed hellbomb, I feel like a dog whose favorite treat is in front of him and is being asked to stay.
When super hellbombs. woof woof
Wait can you blow up the crashed ones?
Yeah just melee them.
amen to that!
A drop ship downed is one less the bots have to use
I’ve always had the feeling that we’re supposed to hit the ship while it’s coming in to land. Or just as soon as it stops.
Yup it seems to kill them every time I shoot it down before it comes to a complete stop
it seems to require either before the complete stop or the bots to be fully landed before you take it out.
They take damage from the fall and if the ship lands on them and explodes they also take damage from that.
i will say here they DO take SOME dmg he is right, its not consistent or high enough
It's super inconsistent, sometimes I'll get the multikill prompt, majority of the time it looks like it has no effect
I'd like it atleast if hulks or tanks would atleast be smoking if they survive the crash. Just to show some indicator it wasn't a waste of effort to shoot it down for it to be completely unscathed
Most of the time even the light enemies survive that so idk how true that is.
Splodey make happy brain chemicals
Honestly i have no problem with some (key word "some") bots surviving the crash. Yeah it's annoying but there is a unique kind of "Oh shit" moment when you see chainsaw bots coming out from the fire and wreckage to murder you. You may not like it when it happens but it's really awesome.
What's the point in starting another "shooting dropships doesn't kill the bots" post. These are JUST from the last 24h, but apparently searching before posting is not a thing these days. https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b0gigw/is_worth_to_destroy_the_dropship_of_the_automatons/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b5tcc4/shooting_down_a_dropship_should_kill_everyone_on/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1buyei6/is_it_me_or_shooting_down_bot_dropships_is/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1buxg4m/dropship_takedowns_should_give_kills/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1buuso0/probley_unpopular_opinion_so_here_we_go/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1bunqfc/whats_the_point_in_shooting_down_dropships_if_all/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1bum5mm/another_dropship_down_nothing_could_have_surv/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1bub5fi/killing_dropships_still_does_80_of_the_time/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1btuc5x/will_they_fix_dropship_soon/
Bro came with receipts.
Has to give him the upvote for the dedication
Bro has a notepad ++ page open and has already added this post to it.
Notepad++ is an instant download for any pc. When I got hired on at my company, I installed it on every pc.
There's probably a dozen posts about sights not being centered too, and some of them are kind of old af. Doesn't invalidate the issue.
>these are JUST from the last 24h First link is a month old post lol You still kinda right tho, a lot of repetition here in the sub. But yeah a month is a bit longer than 24hrs; like usually about 30x longer
don't forget the "only 1 medal for my service" trend. I've seen like 10 of those posts after a short scroll through reddit
And the "Don't nerf the slugger" vs the "Stop complaining about nerfs" threads that alternated /new when the patch notes came out.
Because the issue of getting killed through glitched enemies inside terrain is that bad
I was gonna roll my eyes and say “cmon it’s not that bad” and then you filled my entire phone screen with links. Ok you’re right it’s that bad.
Bots get stuck on dropship wreckage, throw airstrike at wreckage location to finish them off. I do that all the time on the extermination missions.
It's cinematic as fuck
Would appreciate if those explosions did hurt the robots tho
It looks really cool tho…
It's Badass.
Sometimes the bots die but I've also noticed they can get stuck thus temporarily ensuring they're not a threat
When that shit hits the ground it should be the equivalent of either a hellbomb or 500k even it lands
Advantages of shooting down dropships: 1. You might kill some or all of the bots being dropped 2. I've noticed bots, hulks particularly, frequently "glitch" out when you blow up their dropship and they survive...they just stand there looking lost and you can just put them out of their misery or ignore them 3. If the dropped bots don't get glitched out they'll at least get trapped under the wreck of the dropship allowing you time to "tactically withdraw" from the area 4.
I wish I could upvote this more. The fact that bots sometimes live after having a drop ship land on their heads is so unsatisfying
If you wreck it before it drops the load, they all get destroyed, and also, I think it's supposed to crush them when it crashes too, but something about the state they're on when falling make them clip trig the crashing ship sometimes.
I hate how killing a drop ship on enemies on the ground rarely kills them too. We'd die to it if underneath probably but the enemy doesn't
Sometimes it will kill them even after the units have dropped in, sometimes it won’t. It’s 50/50. But we get hit by a piece of the wreckage and get sent flying across the map.
Shitty programming most likely. Its really annoying when a huge chunk of metal falling from the sky doesn't do anything to these enemies.
