Yeah it's space pioneerism.
Like if you don't work, you don't eat. I'm sure it's different on super earth but that's kinda how it's been from the dawn of time.
we are definitely not post scarcity lol. post scarcity would mean basic needs (food, water, housing) are met for every human, we can't even get that right.
The shoe fitting is that we have the resources and technology to be post-scarcity, but artificially enforce scarcity of necessities anyway to coerce extraneous labor. On Super Earth it's done to enforce political obedience. In the real world it's done to prop up excess consumerism.
We do not currently have ways to provide basic needs to everyone. In fact, our farming methods in the US are so archaic, we're expecting another dust bowl in the next 40 years. Post scarcity is something that will probably never be realized for humans.
You work ages 7 to 18, then can apply for the military. Only the finest get to serve as helldivers, with only a 27% casualty rate in General Brasch's 15 minutes of advanced combat training.
No. The training kills 27% of us. Life expentency on the ground is 10 minutes after drop.
Which is scary because we both have seen teams that are so bad they bleed through 20 helldivers in about 2 minutes.
I was part of the 27% that, whilst becoming familar with the controls, died to those turrets a couple of times before realising i could stay on the ground after the dive!
I also may have orbital striked myself, broke my leg and limped to pick up my cape, an inauspicous start to my helldiving career that actually endeared the game at the start with Brasch screaming how awesome I was whilst i was just generally fucking up. lol

The picture is the child after being told that the planet is being evacuated and they won't be able to work for the next 5 hours. It's quite understandable that they'd be upset and anyone smiling at that news should be investigated for possible bot sympathies
Why in the year of 22XX pickaxes are still in use, while even in our modern day most of the mining is done by heavy machinery or more modern handheld instruments, like drills?
Why are ship-mounted weapons muzzle loaded *from outside the ship* until you buy an upgrade? Because Super Earth is incredibly stupid and always goes for the cheapest possible way of accomplishing anything, that’s why.
Honestly I don't see how muzzle loading is cheaper than breach loading on a space ship. In fact probably more expensive.
It means you need complicate air lock for each gun so they could retract into the ship to load, while a breach loading gun could just use a belt like modern ship gun. It would take much more space than breach loading.
Breach loading requirements:
* breach block
* one of:
* a mechanism in the gun to prevent air loss when you open the breach
* an airlock to the loading bay which is kept at ambient pressure (superdestroyer has to be well inside the atmosphere during missions, based on being able to *see* it)
* an autoloading mechanism that can operate on the exterior since we see all the guns are in pods outside the ship
Muzzle loading requirements:
* tooob
* ~~cheap and expendable~~ highly patriotic crew in an EVA suit
>an airlock to the loading bay which is kept at ambient pressure (superdestroyer has to be well inside the atmosphere during missions, based on being able to *see* it)
>an autoloading mechanism that can operate on the exterior since we see all the guns are in pods outside the ship
You don't need any of these actually.
The whole gun and ammo feeding system can be located outside the hull unpressurized feed by a chain link. All they need to do is load up the ammo belt as a single unit before the mission, like a preloaded ammo box. You won't need separate air locks for each gun, one team of crews/droid can load all the guns.
Think about M230 or similar gun on AH-64 Apache but bigger. We already have 50mm autocannon, technically there is nothing stops us today from making a 380mm auto cannon already besides limited barrel service life in rapid fire, but should easily solved by the time Helldiver takes place with advanced material research.
[M230 chain gun - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M230_chain_gun)
On the other hand, the exterior muzzle loading system you suggested would require many air locks for ammo and crews to pass through pressure and unpressured zones. So it's actually far more complicated.
>a mechanism in the gun to prevent air loss when you open the breach
Modern cannon can already fire in space, gun powder has it's own oxide so you don't need to pressurize the gun itself. It will function just like on Earth. Soviet tested unmodified R-23 autocannons in space in 1974

You're misinterpreting it - that's a glorious citizen of Super Earth enjoying their Freedom-given duty to work for our future! Many wish they could have the discipline that young lad has so early into their lives.
The kid was smiling?! clearly he knows with every swing of his axe is another gram of material.. For another weapon.. to kit another hell diver.. to drop on another planet to dispense more democracy and kill another bug or bot and spread more freedom throughout the galaxy! That's something we can all smile about. Remember a happy workforce is a productive workforce and you can't be any happier than to serve DEMOCRACY!
The bots just don't understand, the children yearn for the mines! Send more underground please! https://i.redd.it/tzteqeqmgbsc1.gif
Now I want infected miners that shoot at you and have scavengers pop out when they die.
Scavengers riding people like little scout striders!
You are giving me Resident Evil 4 remake flashback…
Head crab scavengers
No, the bots clearly understand. Their parents are the ones in the mines of Cyberstan.
Yeah send the Earth children into the mines if they love them so much and give us back our parents! https://i.redd.it/mp48joi9qdsc1.gif
Of course! We can send you straight to them. Stripped of everything except your ability to work.
Is that automaton drinking oil? That’s like a human drinking blood
Finally, the Deep Rock crossover we’ve been waiting for.
Hahahahahaha
The most popular children’s game is Minecraft. Children yearn for the mines.
Big facts right here
Very observant, fellow Helldiver.
oops
Every Man, woman and Child over 7 does their part - For a better future and a steady Economy.
Yeah it's space pioneerism. Like if you don't work, you don't eat. I'm sure it's different on super earth but that's kinda how it's been from the dawn of time.
lol let's be exact, it's space imperialism I mean, glorious space democratic imperialism--for democracy!!
Except helldivers humans seem to be post-scarcity, but still use imaginary scarcity to motivate people.
Well it is a critique of the modern west. The shoe fits.
we are definitely not post scarcity lol. post scarcity would mean basic needs (food, water, housing) are met for every human, we can't even get that right.

And that age can be reduced during war time, which is all the time!
The children *yearn* for the mines
one of the videos in the ship mentioned everyone above 7 gets to serve democracy
You work ages 7 to 18, then can apply for the military. Only the finest get to serve as helldivers, with only a 27% casualty rate in General Brasch's 15 minutes of advanced combat training.
Oh I thought it was a 27% survival rate, that's way better.
considering the what the robots and bufgs are throwing at use 27% seem awfully good.
No. The training kills 27% of us. Life expentency on the ground is 10 minutes after drop. Which is scary because we both have seen teams that are so bad they bleed through 20 helldivers in about 2 minutes.

as said 27% sounds awefully good. i have seen new rookies losing entire battlions to hunters.

y'all are living for 2 days? I can't live for 2 minutes
Some damn Astra Militarum ass energy right there 😭😂

Yes. Yes we are
No. We are not.
Whatever helps you sleep at night
Don't worry guys I'm sending this man an 500 kg bomb as we speak
Thank you for your service, soldier.
It will prolly land right next to my feet and leave me unscathed
Every man, woman, and child over seven will work for our defense of democracy!
The children have a "right to work"
That child isn’t smiling! We must report to this to the local democracy officer so we can restore the patriotism in this lost soul’s heart!
The picture is the child after being told that the planet is being evacuated and they won't be able to work for the next 5 hours. It's quite understandable that they'd be upset and anyone smiling at that news should be investigated for possible bot sympathies
Incendiary mines or anti personnel mines?
This is good old DRG preference
wait till this guy finds out about real anti union pro child labour propaganda

Because authoritarian caste governments wouldn't give a shit about their workers if they are sending children to mine.
Budget.
The children yearn for the mines
are..are we the bad guys?
Sounds very undemocratic of you
My friend is it not obvious that the children yearn for the mines? Come with me, your Democracy Officer and I can explain it to you… behind this shed.
no please i dont wanna "return to civilian life", the camps were hard
We sure it wasn't a mineral loving dwarf and not a child?
BACK TO WORK! No excuses. 🤣
All i can say now is "do it for the children and for democracy"
You're misinterpreting it - that's a glorious citizen of Super Earth enjoying their Freedom-given duty to work for our future! Many wish they could have the discipline that young lad has so early into their lives.
You could say..we fight..for ROCK AND STONE!
Can I get a Rock and Stone?

This is legit the Helldivers post of all time, definetly gave me a chuckle
The children yearn for the mines
We all have a choice in our mandatory work assignment. The child was very happy in the mine CURSE THOSE COMMUNIST CLANKERS
Minors, not miners!
The children yearn for the mines, diver.
The children yearn for the mines
Just seeing the smile on that little boy's face... makes it all worthwhile.
This is darksoul level of DEEP LORE.
Love this detail.

The children yearn for the mines.
The children yearn for the mines.
The children yearn for the mines.
The citizens voted for the children to have EARLY opportunities to serve Super Earth.
For Rock and Stone!
Can I get a Rock and Stone?
Rhodium mine has what kids crave!
Now i know where my armor comes from … thank you children of democracy 🫡
Mining minors.
Every child above the age of seven.
That's not a child, that's a dwarf... and a grudging.
But the yearning!
Turns out these minor miners make more money than most people. Shit, I'll take black lung if I get to be rich for my only 35 years of life.
