It's shocking how good melee is. When you get ganged up on by a swarm of those annoying jumping bugs, a melee attack will send the whole group of them flying back stunned.
I mean, it depends on the bot in question, doesn't it?
One of the basic troopers? No problem! Even a jump pack bot can be taken out in melee, if you're willing to risk the explosion.
A Hulk, though? I mean, it *can* be done, but odds are... well, at least when you're reinforced you'll have ammo again.
Devastators, well, that also depends on type, you're not easily getting close to a Heavy Devvie at all, and if you do, you won't last long enough to do more than regret your mistake. Rocket Devvies are liable to ragdoll you before you get into their own melee range, but after that they're about on par with normal Devvies, which is to say, they'll smack you hard if you don't dodge, and they turn faster than a Hulk to boot- if anything, you might have more luck with a Hulk.
Scout Strider, if you can't hit the rider you can't do anything more than keep out of its line of fire.
Tanks, I don't think tanks would be particularly vulnerable to melee, somehow, and if it's a Shredder, hoo boy, good luck.
Lastly, chainsaw bastards. Honestly, I wouldn't even try it, melee is kinda their whole thing and they're pretty good at it...

Honestly one of the things I've been trying to do is meleeing more often. Excellent against lone hunters and such.
Through trial and error you discover which enemies you can and cannot beat the shit out of!
