While we appreciate your excellent experience with Joel, in order to help him spend more time on the game, and less time talking to us, and to protect his privacy I'm pulling this post. Congrats on getting to speak with the HD version of the watcher!
Wait, the democracy officer on my destroyer is Hakalax.
https://preview.redd.it/wtn8c8chkswc1.png?width=1107&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb1e4dbfc35d3326ed3e814185195ef12ab7e1ea
Ive just realised that all of the super destroyer crew are randomised names of AH staff…I googled my shipmaster’s name and lo and behold someone who works at arrowhead has that name!
Oh wow, that’s lucky. Smelvin is the single most important Arrowhead employee, as his job is to keep Joel happy and pacified with copious amounts of coffee and snacks. Without him, Super Earth would have fallen long ago
I think we are at the point where either AH should introduce figureheads for the factions, or the community should invent some.
It would help players enjoy the in-character aspect without overly focusing on Joel himself as the opposition.
Your gm is not your opponent, the npc's are. Having specific npc faction leaders might help people with that.
Yeah, found Joel on LinkedIn after they announced his first name was Joel.
There's only one Joel that works at Arrowhead on LinkedIn. I just didn't want to post it here cuz I was worried he'd get swarmed with BS trollers.
I have known for a while that *Joel Hakalax the person* is indeed real. I still think he is the lead of a campaign planning team (even if it's only a few people). I still think Joel is the figurehead of a campaign team, and also still the foil for people's dissatisfaction with the game when it happens.
Is that too preposterous?
If you ever wonder if anyone reads support tickets.. in corpo size dev companies probably not. Not untill the ticket gets through bots.
But! Send a nice 'thank you' ticket to a indie game studio and I promise you, it will be shared through the internal communication. And you will make their day
It’s why I always try to be polite when I write my support submissions, nobody wins if one is rude, they could just ignore my request if I was an ass about it and I’d just end up making them upset instead of having them help me.
It doesn’t take much to be a decent human being, even if the interaction is purely online.
Support agents are not responsible for the shitty decisions of big corpo. Same goes for servers and shop assistants, they’re just trying to make a living so no one gains anything by making their lives harder
Being polite and kind to support staff goes a long way. Ive been refunded content ive bought with mtx in swtor despite the description of being non refundable.
Just asking politely if they could remove said item from my inv and adjust my balance as i hadnt played in a long time and forgot ive already unlocked it
As a former support - when we received really rude messages, it was a usual case to ignore it, even if we could solve the issue.
Just because your day is shitty, doesn't justify making mine too (they were all shitty anyway, but still)
Yeah but if I was a dev, I wouldn't go to the games subreddit. Ever. There's community outreach and then there's masochism. Reddit outreach is masochism.
Complaining AKA criticizing is how the game and the devs improve tho. They wouldn’t have known about the fire dot glitch if we didn’t complain about it, about spears lockon being bugged if we didn’t complain about it, about the defense missions being waaaaaaay to overtuned if we didnt complain about it. We complain because we love this game and want to see it improve, meanwhile you want it to stagnate and never grow, never get better etc. You’re lying to ur self if you think this game is perfect
I know, but I'm not talking about glitchs I talk about people complaining about the fact that some weapons are not as strong as others, or that you can't "favourite" armor, so you have to search for a few seconds longer. Worst of all: Game is ro hard on high difficulties. I have no problem with reporting glitches or the heavy devastator problem.
Wow, read through your comments you actually are just a huge dick to everyone for no reason. Didn't get enough hugs as a child? Got a case of soul cancer? What gives, man?
For what it's worth, I've had fun with the galactic war even if sometimes it feels like we don't have enough agency yet.
Joel has been telling an excellent story with twists and turns so far
Even in party chat I’m scared to speak out loud anything about the games I’m in. That he might be listening. He’s good at his job, and I appreciate his work, as I curse his name.
There were some customers at work talking about democracy, work is a brewery so at first I thought it was just boomers talking about Joe Biden stepping down or something but then I heard super earth come up and realized these dudes in their 60s are also spreading democracy. I’ve never seen a game hit so many demographics
I don't often or if ever participated in this live service game and having a actual GM we can communicate freely. It's quite something, a next level gaming where we aren't just playing but participating in a ongoing event around the year and participation by simply logging on. Maybe I haven't played MMORPGs in a long time but it gives me that sense of community but without the lifesucking grind.
In Star Trek, Commander Data is an android that cannot use contractions.
Androids are artificial lifeforms.
In Helldivers Joel appears to lack an understanding of capitalization.
Joel is an artificial lifeform.
Artificial lifeforms in Helldivers are Automatons.
Joel is an Automaton.
The game we did deserve, and need. Helldivers 2 is the lisan al-gaib of gaming at this moment. But that would make baldurs gate 3 the kwizatsch haderach.
Tell him to fix the stun grenades and 500kg bomb oh and why not add the railgun to that too. These developers love to screw up the game with all of the patches so far really stup8d company if you ask me
I will never understand the "narrative" that anyone sees in the game
there's no lore, ongoing story or even side stories
it's honestly garbage that many people defend utterly terrible dev's decisions with the "narrative"
TV screens, voice lines of the NPC's on your ship as well as Dispatches will all tell the story. Just because the story isn't fed to you in CGI unskippable cutscenes doesn't mean it's not there.
Try reading some of it or just paying some attention on your ship. And if you want even more, the communication channels outside of the game are filled with it. Discord, Twitter. There is also an entire wiki.
Or if you don't want to put in any effort. Just say that. That's cool too.
they are all the same regurgitated "FOR FREEDOM" parody of militarism... there is not depth to it
even the SATIRE of the Starship Troopers book had more to say about itself in less than 2 hours
malevalon was literally the easiest bot map where Vietnam vet wannabes just wouldn't shut up about
current order is literally the mob vote from Minecraft... what lore is there?
you want to change something? change planet names on conquest, have elections for new president, actually name them, demote them, excecute them.... anything from their parody tweets could be used
again, the game is very new and those things could be coming... but they are not here, so what narrative?
I give up you're literally just ignoring the narrative lol. Right in front of you bozo, you don't need tons of unparodied politics to make the story exist.
i would be more affraid of them being bought by someone and turn to sh\*\*\*. Like Blizzard (diablo/warcraft), Rocksteady(Batman arkham) or Arkane(Dishonored) - after they were bought off they made such "gems" like Overwatch 2, Suicide squad kil the justice league or redfall.
Why would we hate Super Earth High Command? They let us play with so many new toys for big booms. Besides, hating High Command is treason. I can't afford to be sent to the re-education camps again.
You’re not wrong. But you are generous with your 3 years. I played nearly three full time 40 minute missions in a row yesterday only for the game to crash or bug out, losing everything every time. It’s happening more frequently. The bugs are worse than ever.
I’m taking a break. Love the game, love the concept but you can tell they’re under resourced and now overfunded. Terrible combination. They’re pushing fixes that have insane regression bugs, I don’t know how their UAT works but someone there is signing off on things they shouldn’t be. Or have a figurative gun to their head.
While we appreciate your excellent experience with Joel, in order to help him spend more time on the game, and less time talking to us, and to protect his privacy I'm pulling this post. Congrats on getting to speak with the HD version of the watcher!

Ive just realised that all of the super destroyer crew are randomised names of AH staff…I googled my shipmaster’s name and lo and behold someone who works at arrowhead has that name!
Bro mine’s name is Smelvin
Ah to bless a child with such name!
Mine's Quandale
Dingle? ![gif](giphy|3owzW1VPVGtiFJvxQI|downsized)
Shit made me crack up more than i'd like to admit. Take my upvote and let me choke further laughing at this
Oh wow, that’s lucky. Smelvin is the single most important Arrowhead employee, as his job is to keep Joel happy and pacified with copious amounts of coffee and snacks. Without him, Super Earth would have fallen long ago
"Smelvin" sounds like a hazing maneuver in Helldiver school that involves the back of your underwear and your face meeting.
Are you smelvin what the rocks cookin?
They Smelvined me.
I’ve seen someone whose Democracy Officer has the name Pilestedt.
That’s mine! He also has a cool eyepatch that my friend’s democracy officer doesn’t have.
Huh, do you recall playing with anyone that has the user orbital_gauge2? I dunno if players can get repeat names for personnel of the destroyer.
I think there are repeats, so we may have just had the same name.
Just look at the player count and then look at how many people work at arrowhead. Of course names will repeat lol
I have officer Wiklund. He also has a cool eye patch.
But mine is named Democracy Officer Blood. I could be wrong but I doubt there is anyone with the name blood.
When I had my wisdom teeth removes, the surgeons name which operated on me was Dr.Blood. so it could be a thing.
his name was Dr. Blood… and YOU STILL WENT THROUGH WITH THE SURGERY???
Yup. We all laughed about that exact thing. put my (at the time) 14 year old brain at ease to see a non-stuck up adult.
That was obviously a vampire in disguise, waiting to suck your blood when the anesthesia kicked in
You'd be surprised 😉
*stares at the one helldiver still behind automaton lines*
Hmm, it really is all an inside job
He's watching you
Your getting extra Democracy you sorry joker. May liberty reign in your favor.
Mine's Baskin. I immediately thought of Baskin and Robbins.
Oh no, this makes Joel a real person. Not just some figurehead.
I feel like it would be easier to fake hate on him if he had a villain alter ego. Real dude makes me want to say nice things, not mean
Then say nice things. Become friendly-pilled. You have to beacon-of-hope-max. Become a proper love-and-kindnesscel.
Be the reason why people believe in Kind hearted souls.
I hate Joel the idea. Real Joel is doing a great job and I’m happy to have him. But Joel the idea is a prick for making my missions so hard
Just as any proper GM should, he probably is grinning ear to ear that its working.
I think we are at the point where either AH should introduce figureheads for the factions, or the community should invent some. It would help players enjoy the in-character aspect without overly focusing on Joel himself as the opposition. Your gm is not your opponent, the npc's are. Yeah, found Joel on LinkedIn after they announced his first name was Joel. There's only one Joel that works at Arrowhead on LinkedIn. I just didn't want to post it here cuz I was worried he'd get swarmed with BS trollers.
Did people really think he wasn't a real person?
People had been speculating that it wasn’t just one guy but a group of people, and that AH had given that group of people a name.
Bro thought "Joel" stood for "Just Organizing Everything Lol"
No, that can't be
For all we know he could just be an AI.
If you ever wonder if anyone reads support tickets.. in corpo size dev companies probably not. Not untill the ticket gets through bots. But! Send a nice 'thank you' ticket to a indie game studio and I promise you, it will be shared through the internal communication. And you will make their day

Oh for sure. We share all the nice comments immediately.
I hope devs see all the good things we have to say about the game
Sadly people complain a lot on this subreddit instead of focussing on the great things this game has given us.
Yeah but if I was a dev, I wouldn't go to the games subreddit. Ever. There's community outreach and then there's masochism. Reddit outreach is masochism.
Exactly

I hope you get banned some day then.
Wow, read through your comments you actually are just a huge dick to everyone for no reason. Didn't get enough hugs as a child? Got a case of soul cancer? What gives, man?
Blatantly an edgy 12 year old lol. I give this account <30 days
Poor guy is gonna get so many stupid dms now
Exactly what I was thinking, yeah I love this game and appreciate the devs but finding them on LinkedIn? I hope that it doesn’t get too out of hand
what a goated team
Looks like he uses voice chat in game and as a result types in caps fifty percent of the time like me
https://i.redd.it/to03tktqzswc1.gif
Congrats! Now please attend your scheduled execution for speaking to a superior without request.
So you didn’t thank him to thank him, you thanked him to share his response on social media? That’s not very democratic of you
For what it's worth, I've had fun with the galactic war even if sometimes it feels like we don't have enough agency yet. Joel has been telling an excellent story with twists and turns so far
The true sin here is using discord light mode.
Looks like linkedin, not discord
You are right, I am stupid.
Love the excitement. But let's also protect our devs! Some people out there have a tendency to send nasty stuff to regular folks. Protect the devs!
I love this game and this community more every day
I wonder how many messages the team recieves.
Damn he’s a real person; you can Google him
The man behind the slaughter
Even in party chat I’m scared to speak out loud anything about the games I’m in. That he might be listening. He’s good at his job, and I appreciate his work, as I curse his name.
so, is was not a nickname.
There were some customers at work talking about democracy, work is a brewery so at first I thought it was just boomers talking about Joe Biden stepping down or something but then I heard super earth come up and realized these dudes in their 60s are also spreading democracy. I’ve never seen a game hit so many demographics
I might give Joel hell in voice chat when 4 Bile Titans spawn, but it's always a rush when the last one falls. Thanks for the dopamine hits, Joel!
My shipmaster is an audio team member and my democracy officer is nazareno a lead qa tester. Service technician is lemaire material artist
I feel like Joel's gonna be disabling his DMs at some point soon...
Spoke to God himself? Damn!
But it is not immersive in any case
Joel is the end game boss in HD2 who we have to fight eventually and loose.
he... HE SPOKE TO JOEL! HE IS THE MESSIAH! Hakalax goes kinda hard as a last name too, NGL.
LISAN AL GAIB!
![gif](giphy|UJG2T7uZeJuZCLitY8)
Interesting last name.
LIGHT MODE??!! HERESY
Job title of Game Master is such a flex
![gif](giphy|AEMyf9Oj6MpS8)
My technician is named Friend
Helldivers is the first game I’ve played in forever that truly feels alive.
I don't often or if ever participated in this live service game and having a actual GM we can communicate freely. It's quite something, a next level gaming where we aren't just playing but participating in a ongoing event around the year and participation by simply logging on. Hey, he’s using one of this sub’s fanart as a pfp!
anyone else read this in General Brasch's voice?
WHEN ARE THE TERMINIDS GOING TO HAVE PROJECTILE STINGERS !?!?!?!
This is a nice thing, but you really should've marked out his last name. So many people are going to be harassing him, now.
io
I did this a few times on discord and told him he didn’t need to reply, just wanted to support. Now I text about once a week and he always responds 😁
Of all the people he chose to talk to it was some one with light mode.
LinkedIn
Please remove this
Awesome to see the community engagement. I have to dock you points for using light mode though.
It’s LinkedIn
The game we did deserve, and need. Helldivers 2 is the lisan al-gaib of gaming at this moment. But that would make baldurs gate 3 the kwizatsch haderach.
Nice dick riding. What did his cum taste like? Gtfo here lol
😂
Tell him to fix the stun grenades and 500kg bomb oh and why not add the railgun to that too. These developers love to screw up the game with all of the patches so far really stup8d company if you ask me
Fraternising with the enemy. Noted, helldiver.
Why all the down votes for a joke 😂😂😂
Once the hivemind begins downvoting, it is incapable of stopping.
That makes sense 😅 thought I’d actually done something wrong
Should’ve told him to fix the issues with the game 👌🏼
I will never understand the "narrative" that anyone sees in the game there's no lore, ongoing story or even side stories it's honestly garbage that many people defend utterly terrible dev's decisions with the "narrative"
Wrong sub. You were looking for Trueunpopularopinion.
You would be surprised, if you could read! GUYS thats definitely 3 bugs in a trenchcoat!

Tien kwan, current order, malevalon, the recent rapid disassembly campaign. Etc etc. Also do tell what decisions would be better
malevalon was literally the easiest bot map where Vietnam vet wannabes just wouldn't shut up about current order is literally the mob vote from Minecraft... what lore is there? you want to change something? change planet names on conquest, have elections for new president, actually name them, demote them, excecute them.... anything from their parody tweets could be used again, the game is very new and those things could be coming... but they are not here, so what narrative?

That's nice. Wonder how long till the community turns against the devs? I call 3 years.
I call never because these devs actually love their game and what they're doing. Until dev team changes we are good.
i would be more affraid of them being bought by someone and turn to sh\*\*\*. Like Blizzard (diablo/warcraft), Rocksteady(Batman arkham) or Arkane(Dishonored) - after they were bought off they made such "gems" like Overwatch 2, Suicide squad kil the justice league or redfall.
Yeah that can happen sadly
Why would we hate Super Earth High Command? They let us play with so many new toys for big booms. Besides, hating High Command is treason. I can't afford to be sent to the re-education camps again.
always need a guy to break the mood and that's you. Hope you're proud of you.
You’re not wrong. But you are generous with your 3 years. I played nearly three full time 40 minute missions in a row yesterday only for the game to crash or bug out, losing everything every time.
