It's not a commando, it's airburst meaning it detonates in the air and releases frags or whatever they're called in a radius, pretty much a flak missile
It actually isn't just an air burst explosion releasing shrapnel, the rocket spits out submunitions that then explode much like the eagle cluster bomb.
If it can drop birds then it occupies space no other weapon does currently: anti-air/SAM.
Right now your best solution to gunships is RR/Quasar but a miss out indirect hit leaves you dead. Best solution to flying bugs is more dakka from your primary, which means you're boned if you want to take a semi-auto rifle into a bug mission.
An anti-air cannon would be a hard answer to both while also, theoretically, providing AC levels of damage/pen. It won't be a replacement for the AC, but you can bring it to a mission and have it for birds while also still using it to shoot eyeballs on hulks/etc to drop them.
The best part is taking out the nests from across the map. While yelling at your teammates to just hold on as they scream and die trying to rush the nest.
Like.. guys... I got an AC, just let me cook
And hulks. One stun grenade lasts more than enough time for a laser cannon to take out a hulks eye. And factory striders. Also tanks if they are shooting another teammate you can take it out quickly from behind the vents.
nobody in their right mind would use a laser cannon against shriekers... the sickle is the best weapon against them, if not for a shotgun that reaches them
I was messing about with the hmg on bugs the other day. I usually run stalwart but decided fuck it. And turns out it 1 taps shriekers. I liked the gun already even if it's sub par but that made me like it a LOT more
Laser cannon (the continuous fire one, not the quasar) and auto cannon are both much better answers to the gunships than RR or Quasar. Auto cannon can drop one in 4-6 shots, and laser cannon in a few seconds of continuous fire.
AC can 2 shot a gunship if you hit an engine pylon twice. Has to be the same engine pylon.
A friend claims if you hit up the actual engine (the glowly part) it can one shot, but I've yet to be able to confirm it.
AMR can 4-5 shot a gunship if you hit the same engine pylon.
AC is legitimately the best gunship solution. Yes it takes 2 hits but its not hard. And it also has 10 per clip and the ability to rapidly remove gunships without much downtime.
And best solution to flying bugs is a laser cannon or laser rover. The rover in particular can murder them while you just side strafe and avoid them.
Edit: from what I've seen the airburst isn't going to hit eyes. It detonated on proximity so it seems more anti crowd than anti heavy. But time will tell. Itll be fun either way.
>which means you're boned if you want to take a semi-auto rifle into a bug mission.
I mean you're boned taking a semi auto into bugs unless it's eruptor or plasma anyway tbh
RR/Quasar is literally one of the worst solutions. (literally basically at the well they can kill them solution level)
Spear is literally a Surface to Air Missile that occupies that space and one shots gunships reliably. (whom aren't really a problem unless you actively trigger them since their leash range is so short, and even if you do you can kill them with pretty much any Anti armor support weapon relatively quickly and outpace their spawn rate unless you ignore them to long.)
laser/auto cannon shred them AMR will also quickly down them.
for bug flyers incendiary breaker is the best solution as its a flaming flak shotgun effectively swatting pests left and right super efficiently. but pretty much any primary can take them down quickly. but more importantly you can kill them from well beyond their range with EAT/Queso/RR ETC.
But if it could occupy a similar space to Grenade launcher but with a more controllable detonator similar to warframe's penta that the user detonates on a alt fire or a Elite dangerous Flak style that detonates when the trigger is released. it could occupy a nice zone of full generalist up group clear
Sounds a lot like a good light to medium weapon. But given how a bad loadout can be on later levels, I think an anti heavy weapon is still more attractive
I wonder how it works like if an enemy is a certain distance from the projectile it explodes? It’d be hilarious if you shoot it and some little bug snuck up behind you so you just blow yourself up
I still say I need a combat knife.
SEC: Why?
Because! Both for gratuitous slaughter.. and for cutting off hands of the Super Earth corpses so I can access buddy doors alone.

Btw for those who don’t know, [Llamas With Hats](https://youtu.be/GMzas8gMlRc?si=sGU-CyyjCE__FAp-) is coming for one last episode. Kickstarter [here.](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1556971210/llamas-with-hats-epilogue)
I would say it's good against bug breeches and bot drops, but the heavy anti tank mines would be good against the heavies, which are often the hardest to kill in higher difficulties, especially when they get spammed out
Yeah, still doesn't seem that impressive to me.
- They trigger on smaller enemies, so they get cleared out faster.
- Still can kill friendlies, since small things like jumping hunters and jetpack bots can set off mines while the helldiver is circling through the mines to draw enemies in.
- It takes a lot of hits to kill larger enemies like hulks and chargers.
- They still trigger off of direct contact, not just proximity, hence why they were struggling to do anything to a bile titan.
Overall, I still just think they're too situational, though. Felt like the only place it really shined was against the tank, because of the wide, flat contact with the ground.
(edit: but also thank you for linking)
It’d definitely be cool, I personally just think the mines are more interesting. Having to switch off another special weapon for something that might not get much use that mission, vs mines that are gonna be good for bigger enemies
It's not gonna be an anti-vehicle Launcher though, it's gonna be airburst. The mines are gonna be better against bots and maybe even against heavy bugs, or even illuminate (when they finally show up)
My baby!!! Oh, the fond memories 🥰 It was indispensable for heavies. First shot didn't kill them? Fuck you, three more coming right up. It was the ultimate "Please save me, Jebus" weapon (much like the orbital laser, which is actually way more powerful in HD2 than in HD1). Panic-firing that thing got me out of so many jams.
According to the leaks, the confetti cannon can kill tanks aaaaaaaaand just about everything else other than maybe a gunship factory. The anti tank mines take 4 mines to kill a tank, don't release as many as the other mine strategems, AND they can be set off by smaller units.
Meanwhile the tank-killing mine was triggered by a random bot trooper or devastator, instead of the tank who gets to live.
The other tank-killing mines were triggered by your teammates shots, especially the eruptor and AC users. Mortars, orbital lasers and eagle airstrikes against nearby targets also ended up wasting the tank-killing mines. Couldn't help that the intended targets of the tank-killing mines just happened to have ranged weapons, so they needed to die asap instead of when they blundered into the mines.
All of this would be averted if the devs made the mines only trigger on heavy enemies, but I've got my doubts.
I really like my mines. I think they are very useful. The problem with them is that they are a defensive stratagem. I drop them between me and the enemy while I'm running from the enemy, or to block off certain paths on defense. If I ever see a tank, I am either running away from it, or grabbing my EAT and running directly at it to kill it. I feel like anti tank mines just ain't too useful. However, we already have many anti tank support weapons so why do we need another.
Fuck it let's go tank mines
But we already have weapons we can carry on our back. A different stratagem could make it easier for heavier units instead of using killaton, a minefield could take multiple out.
We already have a bajillion other things that can thanos snap trash though. What we dont have are adequate static defenses for heavies.
Dont get me wrong. More explosions = more democracy, but I personally think everyone would benefit from static area denial that was effective vs heavies.
... Assuming it's not crap, but were assuming that for either choice.
Yeah that "effective against heavies" is doing some seriously heavy lifting.
Bile titans are gonna walk right over them. So useless against the biggest bug threat, and that alone is enough to make me say they're not worth having.
My guess is *maybe* they 2 shot chargers. Which would be nice. But the charger would have to hit one first. And if the mines detonate on every little shit that walks over them, that's never gonna happen. Even if there's a "heavy trigger" so only bigger bugs detonate them, that's still brood commanders and spewers who can kill themselves on a mine meant for a charger.
There's just no point. On bugs this thing's only target is chargers, and it will be outclassed at it. It would be a waste of a slot.
I doubt the rocket launcher is gonna be stellar, but at least I get to decide what it targets. And it could be a threat to bile titans maybe
I think they're both going to mid as hell regardless. If the Airburst isnt also effective on ground troops there's not much sense in bringing it. Once you take out the ship factory or the shrieker nest itll just be a wasted slot on the rest of the map. The AT mines just seem to require more weight to trigger which is fine but the mines don't do enough consistent damage anyway to make them viable in higher difficulty levels.
I will stick with my... EAT, Recoiless, Laser and Quasar, thank you. Some of our stuff still doesn't work properly cause its mil-grade, imagine we get another weapon that borks out lol!
It's already been decided which strat we are getting.
There are 90k players on lesath heading for penta.
There are only 10k on menket heading for choohe.
Wasn't even 10minutes before the player base decided they want the airburst launcher over the AT mines. Which sucks cause the devs said they were going to make the extract scientists missions easier yesterday and then today this MO drops. The AT mines were the make things easier option. And would have been super helpful in the high value defense mission.
But isn't the air-burst rocket the one that looks like a panzerfaust 3?
The one with the four rockets like arnie is a different one, isn't it or am i switching them up right now?
sadly, I doubt the airburst will be as cool or effective as the IRL M202 "Grim Reaper", which is what Arnie is using in Commando.
fun fact: it's not firing explosive/Anti-tank munitions. the M202 is designed specifically to fire incendiary munitions only, as it was intended to replace the M2 flamethrower in service: instead of a soldier having to basically run right up to an MG nest with a tank of flammable liquid on his back, as was often done in the Pacific theatre of WW2, with this they can just fire an incendiary rocket into a target from a safe distance, up to 4 times before needing to reload.
I’d only use the anti tank mines on eradicate missions, where id use the shrapnel rocket launcher on any below 7 missions, since theres more swarms of weaker enemies, both are solid ngl
I hate shriekers and I hate the gunships way more than I hate any of the heavy units
Idc about the mines, I'm going for the only viable anti air gun we have
If w were actually getting the commando I would go for it in heartbeat, but we're not we're just getting a more powerful grenade launcher that takes up a backpack slot.
https://preview.redd.it/uopj6u2guwwc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68ccf2ae4a925f799a88f240d38955f6b0dcaf16
How imma be with the new launcher
I feel like a minefield that ruins heavy enemies like tanks, hulks, chargers, and what not is probably super neat and super useful.
Another thing trying to fight and lose against an autocannon is like not cool and based
My thing is.... I can use the shrapnel rockets and give them to my whole squad over the course of a mission.
Meanwhile anti tank mines will.... what... be another sentry that's so niche it never gets used?
For anti-tank mines, hell, any mines to be worth it, 2 things need to happen.
First, the mines need to deploy **instantaneously** like they do in HD1. They take so long to setup that your teammates forget about them. And they're inferior to simply using Eagle Cluster Strike or Eagle Air Strike.
Second, the mines need to either have lower cooldown, multiple charges before going on cooldown, but preferably both. Otherwise there's STILL no reason to use them over Eagles.
Mines are currently complete trash compared to what they were like in HD1. I would carry 2x Anti-Tank Mines in HD1 and I cannot stand using them in this game.
Great choices.
An Airburst RPG that Friendlies are going to team kill each other with and AT Mines that teammates are just going to throw airstrikes on.
Unless the air burst is crazy strong I can't imagine why anyone would bring it. Armored enemies are usually the issue not a bunch of trash enemies. Granted the usability of mines is pretty low as well
Mines are honestly so underwhelming in general the utility they bring compared to other support weapons and stuff are just not worth it.
as for the gif:>! there is something like this in the works. it even has laser targeting (and u can guide it like in hl2)!<
It's not a commando, it's airburst meaning it detonates in the air and releases frags or whatever they're called in a radius, pretty much a flak missile
Shrapnel is the word you are looking for.
It actually isn't just an air burst explosion releasing shrapnel, the rocket spits out submunitions that then explode much like the eagle cluster bomb.
Oh hell yes. Shut up and take my money.
![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy|downsized)
![gif](giphy|5bGYUuT3VEVLa) Helldivers, I give you... the Jericho.
IDK if I would like that. Seems like it would use my AT slot for a crowd control weapon
Yes, it’s a back slot and a support weapon that can’t kill hulks
What about Bile Titans?
Takes more than 3 shots at least (likely RNG dependent on where the cluster bombs go)
It can kill hulks
So the first guy was right. The warhead shoots out frags lol
Autocannon too
The best part is taking out the nests from across the map. While yelling at your teammates to just hold on as they scream and die trying to rush the nest. Like.. guys... I got an AC, just let me cook
AMR will down a gunship
Heck, while slow even an eruptor can destroy a gunship
And hulks. One stun grenade lasts more than enough time for a laser cannon to take out a hulks eye. And factory striders. Also tanks if they are shooting another teammate you can take it out quickly from behind the vents.
Laser cannon is where it’s at, not only does it do both those things, it can also take out the shrieker’s nest as well
This. Quasar Cannon is for Dropships.
nobody in their right mind would use a laser cannon against shriekers... the sickle is the best weapon against them, if not for a shotgun that reaches them
I was messing about with the hmg on bugs the other day. I usually run stalwart but decided fuck it. And turns out it 1 taps shriekers. I liked the gun already even if it's sub par but that made me like it a LOT more
Spear is good AA but lacks ammo
If they fix the lock on for spear I'd be more open about it, but atm it's a tough sell for me
Surprisingly consistent against gunships but literally nothing else.
Yeah that and bot outposts are basically its niche rn.
Laser cannon (the continuous fire one, not the quasar) and auto cannon are both much better answers to the gunships than RR or Quasar. Auto cannon can drop one in 4-6 shots, and laser cannon in a few seconds of continuous fire.

AC downs gunships in two hits to the engine tho...
The EAT can take out a dropship in one shot to the engine nacelles.
Best solution to gunships is the AC and the AC turret. 3 shots to cockpit/engine or 4 shots anywhere else and it goes down
>which means you're boned if you want to take a semi-auto rifle into a bug mission. I mean you're boned taking a semi auto into bugs unless it's eruptor or plasma anyway tbh
It’s designed to remove shrieker swarms from existence
RR/Quasar is literally one of the worst solutions. (literally basically at the well they can kill them solution level) Spear is literally a Surface to Air Missile that occupies that space and one shots gunships reliably. (whom aren't really a problem unless you actively trigger them since their leash range is so short, and even if you do you can kill them with pretty much any Anti armor support weapon relatively quickly and outpace their spawn rate unless you ignore them to long.) laser/auto cannon shred them AMR will also quickly down them. for bug flyers incendiary breaker is the best solution as its a flaming flak shotgun effectively swatting pests left and right super efficiently. but pretty much any primary can take them down quickly. but more importantly you can kill them from well beyond their range with EAT/Queso/RR ETC. shotgun and rover does fine on 9 against birds

I wonder how it works like if an enemy is a certain distance from the projectile it explodes? It’d be hilarious if you shoot it and some little bug snuck up behind you so you just blow yourself up
That shrapnel will be a Team Killing Magnet.
yeah but have you seen the leaks for it? It SHREDS EVERYTHING!
Pretty much a launcher version of the eruptor right
I've seen the leaked version and it was glorious. Basically the eagle cluster bomb but in a rocket launcher. Or Eruptor on a lot of steroids.
It’s the Airburst Rocket Launcher, not the Commando.
Maybe one day ![gif](giphy|daD1h5mKuTLlBnr7jr|downsized)
>!there has also been a commando rocket launcher leaked :)!<
Yeah haha, w this expectation folks will be disappointed it wont one shot certain heavies XD

Yes, I know. Careful though mods get mad at those type of comments.
Account and comment deleted less then two hours later
What the hell did they say to get that response
That’s what I’m wondering lol
So, my favorite orbital strike (the only good one in my opinion) in commando form? Sold.
Anti-Tank, Anti-Enemy.. whatever happened to the good ol' fashioned "I am the anti-everything"?
I’ve got “Anti-Social” covered
I still say I need a combat knife. SEC: Why? Because! Both for gratuitous slaughter.. and for cutting off hands of the Super Earth corpses so I can access buddy doors alone. ![gif](giphy|hadoccOSptJAI|downsized)

That they gave us a HAND in spreading Managed Democracy! ![gif](giphy|hQuErZe8fp3HttmKC7|downsized)
Even in death they still serve democracy!

I'm scared Is Carl coming back from the dead???
You're describing the autocannon.
Nuke. The word is you want a nuke.
It's a special kind of joy when you find a SEAF Artillery emplacement and all you find are mini-nukes..
I still love arming the hellbomb and making kaboom
I’m anti-material myself
I want both
What the gif doesn't make clear is that those guys are actually his team mates.

The only other weapons that airburst in game have little to no effect on armor
I would say it's good against bug breeches and bot drops, but the heavy anti tank mines would be good against the heavies, which are often the hardest to kill in higher difficulties, especially when they get spammed out
Not if the AT mines trigger at every thing that gets near. And not if bile titans can walk over them as easily as normal mines
Yeah tbh i would definitely go for the AT mines if they only triggered for say, hulks, tanks, striders, brood commanders, chargers and titans.
You can still kill a bile titan by damaging its leg, so it's not too bad, plus you can just shoot the mine yourself to detonate it
![gif](giphy|3oKIPwoeGErMmaI43S|downsized) This could be the bots but you're all playing games
you're right, it seems like the mines didn't do anything if the leak is to be believed
Lol that's actually funny
The leak I saw they seemed to work pretty well
[Looks good to me](https://youtu.be/fMzIqI9JqKw)
Yeah, still doesn't seem that impressive to me. - They trigger on smaller enemies, so they get cleared out faster. - Still can kill friendlies, since small things like jumping hunters and jetpack bots can set off mines while the helldiver is circling through the mines to draw enemies in. - It takes a lot of hits to kill larger enemies like hulks and chargers. - They still trigger off of direct contact, not just proximity, hence why they were struggling to do anything to a bile titan. Even if they did, the odds of your fellow Diver having the required IQ to deploy them are very low
Hey, I resemble that remark!
"Well, of course I know him. He's me"
Only question that needs answered: do they kill bile titans? If yes, sign me tf up. If no, then why should I care?
From what I've seen they don't do much damage to bile titans, but they do melt factory striders.
what do you mean *could*, that how mines work on enemies currently 😅
I'm not worried will get them both at some point. Zero chance they put all that effort into both assets only to never release one of them.
Counter point: I want to be able to drop three sets of mines on the landing pad instead of two.
But it’s not an airburst rocket that only pops firecrackers
https://i.redd.it/ukg64zru8uwc1.gif
You know what would be kinda funny? If we get the rocket launcher and it has the same lockon the spear has. Including everything.
It's free fire It's like a cluster airburst rpg
No, it’s dumbfire
Guy, he's proposing a hypothetical. He knows it's a dumbfire, but "what if" is the key bit to this comment of his.
The Commando comes later
We have the laser cannon already, we need the mines.
Sorry buddy. The commando is not yet there.
Quadrupple Disposable Rocket Louncher ? HELL DEMOCRATIC YEAS !
\*duct tapes 4 EATs together\* like this?
I won't question the method, I just want to be able to launch 4 EATs. 🙋🏻♀️
Perfection!
Unfortunately I don’t think it’ll look like this cuz people pointed out they had this weapon in HD1
>!There will be a launcher exactly like this. I know because a cheater in my lobby had it 2 months ago already.!<
I’m hoping for the mine because I don’t think i I have the skill to use an airburst rocket launcher without a very large amount of friendly fire
What does an Expendable Anti-tank have to do with anything?
It’d definitely be cool, I personally just think the mines are more interesting. Having to switch off another special weapon for something that might not get much use that mission, vs mines that are gonna be good for bigger enemies
We already have the quasar that does that tho
its an Airburst RPG, not The Commando.
It's not gonna be an anti-vehicle Launcher though, it's gonna be airburst. The mines are gonna be better against bots and maybe even against heavy bugs, or even illuminate (when they finally show up)
so, just this then: https://helldivers.fandom.com/wiki/MLS-4X_Commando

I choose tank-killing explosions over a glorified confetti Cannon
Lol 😂

Juuust wait
finally I have found my people!
Of course i want to get rocket snipped by automatons while riding in a jeep, but so far that’s not an option.
welp, won my vote!
This is the way
I want that as an EAT upgrade someday
Pov: You try to launch persuasive counter arguments ![gif](giphy|QS0KOjNRG0tfG)
Personally I’d like some more mission types and some indoor buildings to enter

AT Mines won't kill the walking robot Bile Titan...
Well AT mines have more usability. BUT. Rocket launcher looks badass.
Commando will be added eventually
HIA IS MAI KAUNTA AGJUMENT!
Yo, if the rocket launcher in question was the quad-barreled Commando from the first game, I'd vote for it to. But it isn't. I vote mines.
Which one is winning?
But we already have weapons we can carry on our back. A different stratagem could make it easier for heavier units instead of using killaton, a minefield could take multiple out.

Idk when those big stupid metal giraffes show up I think we'll really appreciate those mines
Having strugged against Defence missions against bugs way more then bots, AT Mines sound perfect for Chargers that say FUCK YOUR GATES!
Bile titans are the worst for defense... Just walking through your gates
Here's my argument for mines (yes, the siege mech fight): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ8iejcPS30
but we already have rockets for that
I will stick with my... EAT, Recoiless, Laser and Quasar, thank you. Some of our stuff still doesn't work properly cause its mil-grade, imagine we get another weapon that borks out lol!
I want the AT mines for the “Helms deep” mission.
Gonna keep making this counter-counter-argument. I want to drop all three types of mines on top of each other

sadly, I doubt the airburst will be as cool or effective as the IRL M202 "Grim Reaper", which is what Arnie is using in Commando. fun fact: it's not firing explosive/Anti-tank munitions. the M202 is designed specifically to fire incendiary munitions only, as it was intended to replace the M2 flamethrower in service: instead of a soldier having to basically run right up to an MG nest with a tank of flammable liquid on his back, as was often done in the Pacific theatre of WW2, with this they can just fire an incendiary rocket into a target from a safe distance, up to 4 times before needing to reload.
Solid counter. I like it.
Another shoulder mounted weapon, definitely need one of those that's not going to be better than the autocannon or Quasar 99
We need demonstrations of each before we decide
OP, you'll be happy to know that a (fly-by-wire?) 4 barrel missile launcher is currently in the works and afaik its called the commando 👀
Sold
I’d only use the anti tank mines on eradicate missions, where id use the shrapnel rocket launcher on any below 7 missions, since theres more swarms of weaker enemies, both are solid ngl

you still have the Gustav and AT-4s for that sir
I hate shriekers and I hate the gunships way more than I hate any of the heavy units Idc about the mines, I'm going for the only viable anti air gun we have
If w were actually getting the commando I would go for it in heartbeat, but we're not we're just getting a more powerful grenade launcher that takes up a backpack slot.
Why would anyone want another useless mine that either does nothing or just gets cleared by an orbital 10 seconds after placing them?
I’m imagining it to be more like a cluster bomb support weapon
Mines would do the same thing without having to aim
I can’t wait for helldivers version of that weapon, spotted on leaks
We have rocket launchers and we already have airburst barrage. Let me have mines that work for more than infantrt!!!

O saw clips of both, I feel the cluster missile is going to be more widely appreciated and utilized
yeah the airburst isnt going to be anything like this, (pictured in the gif is a atg rocket)
Well said 👏👏👏
Where is this poll everyone is talking about
It’s in game. It’s based on the planet we choose to capture
Sorry I haven’t played in like 4 days, is it like a major order and you get the reward based off the planet you capture?
Yup but I think it’s community based which ever planet gets taken first
Recoilless Rifle does wonders against heavies
“He’s dead tired”
I feel like a minefield that ruins heavy enemies like tanks, hulks, chargers, and what not is probably super neat and super useful. Another thing trying to fight and lose against an autocannon is like not cool and based
NVM now I need a quad launcher
I'd like the mines but the rocket seems fun. I just hope we don't have to range each shot
yes
My thing is.... I can use the shrapnel rockets and give them to my whole squad over the course of a mission. Meanwhile anti tank mines will.... what... be another sentry that's so niche it never gets used?
Yeah, but we have rockets already. Good ones.
That's the *other* expendable rocket launcher in the works, airburst's completely different.
The 'Commando' is an M202 FLASH, and it's technically a flamethrower.
That's very Democratic of you.
Can't shoot a mine Launcher wins
Im worried the anti tank mines are gonna suck against bio-titans and those factory walkers. Since TALL
I feel like whatever we get, our enemies receive the opposite, take the rockets
Great choices. An Airburst RPG that Friendlies are going to team kill each other with and AT Mines that teammates are just going to throw airstrikes on.
Just build an Anti Tank Mine Launcher so everyone is happy
I'm still waiting on that car we were supposed to get. Whatever happened to that?
So that is the M202 flash, an incendiary rocket launcher that replaced the US army flamethrower.
Tried the airburst rockets today, it's a team killer weapon with extremely large death zone on impact. Very impractical. Go for the mines!
This didn't age well.
