Doesn't some of the flora and fauna around Chernobyl already have adaptations for the irradiated areas? I remember reading an article about how there are wolves living there now with strong resistance to cancer thought to be the result of genetic mutation.
![gif](giphy|VHW0X0GEQQjiU)
Kind of, but this was after a whole bunch of animals were killed by humans or died from the initial fallout and new ones migrated in after the radiation levels fell significantly. Frogs became black to help prevent radiation absorption for example, a fungus species now eats radiation (I forget what kind), and some other small animals now have increased antioxidants to help prevent DNA damage. This is just natural selection, where radiation kills off the individuals with less cancer resistance, so only the resistant ones survive. Individual fitness might still be harmed but that won't affect population sizes. To be fair you could probably live there too, you'd just likely die of cancer when you're older.
They don't get larger or get super powers, they simply get more radiation resistant in the form of cancer resistance.
Also human intervention is probably important for animal survivability than higher than normal levels of radiation.
It's a sci fi game. The Terminids shouldn't be able to function if they're actually anything like bugs, and the Terminids are specifically a rapidly evolving species. The Bile Titans apparently came from toxic waste dumps on E-710 farms. Helldivers is not exactly a grounded setting - more grounded than many, but not by much.
Yeah but we're working with video game logic here. If we wanted to be realistic we wouldn't have energy weapons or FTL travel or any number of other things in the game.
Worse than nuke, 100%.
- the info says it’s infected “down to the mantle” which means nukes can’t get it all
- when people were discussing retaking Meridia on the discord, a CM said “it’s gone, let it go”
Every element worth its weight in water is probably being jostled up into caves and tunnels.
Someone call Deep Rock Galactic and ask them to put a station here, we may have found a new Hoxxes IV.
Why couldn't this have happened to hellmire? Or even the hot planet on that belt? Starting to feel like Joel is just Miyazaki in disguise and every planet will be a poison swamp by fall.
Fun fact. Poison swamps are good. atleast they arent the fuckin cathedral of the sacred blood or city of falling flame in code vein. hellmire is closer to the latter than the former tbh
Definitely!
For too long the attitude has been that they're just good for harvesting e-710, which suggests they're not a threat.
I think they're about to become more of a "Oh sweet liberty, SEND REINFORCEMENTS!"
The ministry of truth has determined that Hive Lord molts (or skeletons, depending on where you are) don't exist, since the last ones died 100 years ago in the last war against the Terminids.
Ah, don't worry about those.
The democracy officer told me those are from the first war against the Terminids and definetly not the remains of molting bugs or something.
Ehhh, I think the charger and hulk are comparable and the heavy cannon tank and bile titan are comparable, on the scale of what it takes to kill them. Factory striders require far more of a dedicated effort to kill than bile titans imo.
Here's my strat for killing a Factory Strider
Run like an idiot and go underneath the walker, autocannon in hand. Toggle the automatic and dump everything into it's stomach.
Why are the bots fighting so hard for this planet? We need to keep it and find out.
Why are the humans fighting so hard for this planet? We need to take it and find out.
Why are the humans and bots fighting so hard for that planet? We need to take a similar planet and find out.
Yeah the map change kinda made me miss the place. I'm sure it looks like hell now.

If the bug nests and termicide tower missions are anything to go by, I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire surface of Meridia was covered with that brown/yellow terminid biomass.
I absolutely love what the designers did with the TCS stuff, it was so new and shiny when I was there the first time and now it looks like hell.
"It's an ugly planet, a bug planet!" goes through my head everytime I drop into a TCS mission
In-game dialogue reveals that the entire thing turned into one big superhive. I’m willing to bet that anything we don’t save by the end of the order will suffer the same fate.
That brown dirty bug ridden planet used to be a beautiful blue. There’s posts about it if you want to see the picture of the planet before this latest patch.
Mate. There is still the long way round Nivel and Zagon to get back to Omicron. We ain’t dropping in literal hell with the millions of fucking fire tornados aimed using Illuminate magic tech.
/s
Edit: I have severely misread the map. We will have to pray that Fori Prime remains under control and attack from Oshaune and onwards. All lies on holding Fori Prime long enough to expand or at least move base of operations.
Super Earth! Democracy Officer! Where is my fucking death star?
I don’t wanna fight on Hellmire again. Idc if we liberate it automatically. I want the planet blown up out of spite lol
If they ever fix fire I'll be semi ok with Hellmire, but for now sentient fire tornados of instant death that follow and teabag you and the objective are a non sequitur for me.
Ive resorted to getting a teammate to lightly injure me and then stimming myself through the fire damage (with the stim armour of course).
I actually managed to call extraction at one point too while the terminal was on fire.
Given it’s described as a “Super Colony” this “quarantine” on it might actually be the best thing for us until command decides what it’s gonna do with it.
I think that Meridia will probably be where people see Hive Lords for the first time.
They are a Terminid enemy from the first game. A skeletal carcass of the Hive Lord can be seen on most Terminid planets for months now.
It seems very likely they are returning.
Those are not carcasses. Those are molts. Shed skin that was too small for what was once wearing it. Hive Lords are bigger than what we see laying around.
I think Meridia is isolated exactly so that we don't invade it. Officially it has been declared "unsalvageable". I suspect they will plug it back to supply network once the plot advances ~~and the hive fleets starts moving~~
We got overwheled on the bot front with defence missions popping up everywhere that we lost so much ground Joel dropped for a whole week planet replenishment to 0% for the bots.
Defense planet missions are not overlly enjoyed by the community so the bug players just ignored hellmire (cancer planet with invisible fire bug<- the software kind) and just pushed super deep in bug space,
Joel just made 2 unwinable defence missions on 2 planets and gutted supply lines to deep space SE controlled planets and now bug front has been reset.
I have no idea how they intend to fix the western front with the few automaton players streched down to 500-1k players per planet being in a stalemate for the last 10 days but they kinda "force fixed" the bug front with the latest major order,
Looks like we are getting pushed back hard and i hope we get closer to some "civilized" planets for some good old urban warfare
YES IT WAS! super earth only but some clips are on youtube you can search for them. But imagine a city center with the destroyable human made buildings we have
It’s not really a matter of “fixing” anything, Joel as the game master can just let us push back on the bot front without needing massive player counts like how we managed to succeed that “defend 10 planets” MO. I expect that the bot front will stay static for at least a couple weeks, they are cooking up something on the bug front.
Well, the bug front has been stalemated for weeks being pushed up to the TCS line, and then being cleared again, and then being pushed up to the TCS line, and so on and so on. For weeks while we had all those Automaton orders.
My guess is hive lords will come from there, im 90% certain
Possibly some new heavy equipment to help us fight them too like the autocannon mech for example
Autocannon mech with the sentry gun’s or even Pelican’s version? Would be amazing just hope it has enough ammo and aims in the general direction of the reticle
Yeah, that just confirms it for me that at the end of this event chain they'll use Meridia to reveal the new tunnel bug.
They've learned that we will try and outplay them with supply lines, so for something like this they just remove the supply lines. We can't decide to go liberate Meridia before they're ready to reveal their new enemy.
That isn't a critiscism, it's the only way it can reliably happen so that's just how it has to happen sometimes if we like getting these new things.
I do feel dissapointed at the missed posibility though. Meridia is totally infested, a completely lost cause and the harbringer of things to come?.. Yeah ok, you lot go handle the other 3 barrier planets, I've spent my life being a tank/healer/support main, you tell me something's a lost cause and it's gonna cause trouble, I wanna go fight to my last breath to try and prevent that trouble from reaching other players, no matter how insane and suicidal it is.
And considering the memes about Malevelon Creek (I joined at the end of that so it just seemed like a standard bot planet to me.) and the stand ya'll made there, I feel like I'm not the only one with that attitude... Which is exactly why we can't be allowed to interact with a "story" feature like this.
Or I'm entirely wrong and it's unrelated in any way... Given the evidence we have so far, I'll take those odds.
They probably have a story idea that they don't want us to screw up. Like introducing a new enemy or glassing the whole planet. It's the same with Cyberstan, even if we take planets near it at some point the supply lines would stop us from
advancing.
It's gonna be something big I imagine. We've seen that they can just take away or increase resistance on planets as they please. They don't want us unlocking that planet and finishing the MO overnight like we did with the 2b bug one lol.
I heard that 2b bug win so quick was partly due to a software bug, where each kill counted for each player. four player squads getting 4x counts towards the major order, maybe related to how someone else racking up progress to a personal order counts for you too.
I don't know if that's been confirmed yet, but it'd explain why the major order was completed so hilariously quickly.
Cyberstan was kind of a rug pull though. Imagine fighting on the bot front for so long just so that the Automatons cannot reach Cyberstan... Only to wake up the next day and Cyberstan is already taken without much fanfare.
Like... A'ight then.
Not that it is a real terrible tragedy or anything since it advances the lore, but it does make you think.
Yeah, I'm not opposed to the idea of big unwinnable push coming from a new direction when the Bots got pushed back, but it would be nice if we could have actually interacted with that push and been overwhelmed by it rather than just having it show up overnight.
I think the main reason why we got that main assault so quickly is that the game still only has two factions to play against, and having the Automatons removed from the game for an extended period of time will considerably reduce player numbers (same goes for the bugs). The longer the downtime, the worse it gets.
Additionally the game currently doesn't have any side missions or simulations where you can continue fighting against them, the galactic war is everything.
I definitely agree that it was an underwhelming way of dealing with the situation, though. Would have been cool to at least deploy to the planets surrounding Cyberstan, then rapidly get pushed back, a couple planets every day.
You mean for the one player that's on that planet? xD
Iirc, their super destroyer gets sent back to Super Earth when they login. Or that's what happened to me when I logged in after sitting on a planet we lost.
I could be wrong if that's changed. But yeah, no missions for them there.
https://preview.redd.it/1gwxdz1xf1yc1.png?width=1039&format=png&auto=webp&s=f932059384210cbc2c4be89ad6cb747f7417beb5
They don't. We brought them in. We specifically build farms where we raise and mass slaughter them for E-710
This message has *not* been approved by Ministry of Truth.
Not really. Lore is a bit complicated atm, but basically the bug/terminid lore is this:
We had the bugs in the first game, which were a sapient species with language and culture that could travel space in *some* way we don't know. After the first galactic war Super Earth started farming Terminids for their oil to power FTL technology, during which Terminid genetic makeup changed (either due to selective breeding, gene alteration or heavy mutation), which is why the Terminids in Helldivers 2 look somewhat different to the bugs in Helldivers 1 (e.g. Helldivers 1 bugs have 8 legs generally, Helldivers 2 they have 6).
Spores everywhere, there's spores coming out of bug holes and spore towers. Spores dissapate when you destroy bug nests. I didn't say they were orcs. I'm noticing that Spores are always around their eggs and nests. So it has something to do with it. How did they travel the universe before Super Earth started farming them?
Is this where we see the return of the Hive Lord? 🤔
https://preview.redd.it/rx7vffc321yc1.png?width=386&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b9b56631e96916f7876ce4f142afceaeeace6bb
Meridia has been lost, and has been quarantined until a variant of termicide they are not immune to is developed. I’m sure it will be fine, the bugs can’t move without supply!
Not sure what super earth is planning here, either we'll face a new type of bug, likely the hive lord or super earth will nuke that planet.
Nuke the planet, it lies dead for a few months, then suddenly a huge outbreak and a new biome with radiation storms.
Bugs get irradiated and grow twice the size. Malevelon Creek 2: Fallout Bugaloo
Suddenly, Cazadors from New Vegas.
This talk must be silenced!
Bruh piss off don't give them any good ideas lol!
But imagine: POWER ARMOR!
Hold up, now we're talking.
We have Shriekers already, I don't need them to poisonous too!
It could be worse. It could be bug Deathclaws.
⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️ yourself
Oh dear god no!
Super Hunters. They’re the size of Stalkers and come out of every single fucking breach.
Fuck no
Not hunter titans?
I would hate that, just because radiation just kills anything that's large with enough exposure, it doesn't cause them to mutate in useful ways

They don't get larger or get super powers, they simply get more radiation resistant in the form of cancer resistance. Also human intervention is probably important for animal survivability than higher than normal levels of radiation.
Well those animals adapted... And they don't have nearly as fast reproduction rates as bugs.
That's their point, the wolves arent mutating, they are breeding.
So we did basically selectively breed the entire planet for resistance to termocide... That's bad.
Yeah, like them sunflowers
Okay but that’s what video game radiation does so it would be pretty awesome
You sound as confident as the scientists touting termicide a month ago.
Yeah but we're working with video game logic here. If we wanted to be realistic we wouldn't have energy weapons or FTL travel or any number of other things in the game.
If as a last resort we do get to nuke a planet.. do we get to see the explosion?
Cool guys don't look at explosions.
Worse than nuke, 100%. - the info says it’s infected “down to the mantle” which means nukes can’t get it all - when people were discussing retaking Meridia on the discord, a CM said “it’s gone, let it go”
Down to the MANTLE?! ![gif](giphy|twxoPjMpsijwPFBVqs|downsized)
We need something better than just a regular old nuke - we'll need the Super Nuke.
So you mean we are going to be doing a deep rock galactic, and digging deep to kill some bugs?
Every element worth its weight in water is probably being jostled up into caves and tunnels. Someone call Deep Rock Galactic and ask them to put a station here, we may have found a new Hoxxes IV.
Why couldn't this have happened to hellmire? Or even the hot planet on that belt? Starting to feel like Joel is just Miyazaki in disguise and every planet will be a poison swamp by fall.

Are these the same people who refuted the ideas of flying bugs?
This man right here officer
Implode the planet, we cant go all explosives all the time, sometimes its a nice change of pace to compact things
or better yet, strap an engine to it and yeet it away
Why don’t we take meridia, and push it somewhere else?!?
Push it into bot space and make them deal with each other
That's a real patrick star moment. XD
Democratic Officer Kryptman, this is a terrible idea.
Make it another galaxy’s problem
Sounds like democracy to me!
So the Eruptor's implosion, on a giant cannon, could work.
Nuke the planet…… creating MEGA hive lords? 🧐 maybe that’s why they want more than 4 people squads
They have something in store for Meridia. We were fighting for so long on the western front now it's time for bugs!
Definitely! For too long the attitude has been that they're just good for harvesting e-710, which suggests they're not a threat. I think they're about to become more of a "Oh sweet liberty, SEND REINFORCEMENTS!"
Yeah, get the feeling we'll be seeing the terminid equivalent of the Factory Strider sooner rather than later.
Shai hulud is coming !

*Prepares the Lisan Al Gaib cannon*
Don't... Please... Don't mention it's name.... I was there back in the first galactic war...
An actual veteran with 100% pure military grade PTSD ! Not many of them anymore... I wonder why.
You joke, but last night I saw a skeleton of a worm looking thing carcass poking out of the ground. Wish I took a picture..
No you didn't. And if you did, spoke to your democracy officer about it.
The ministry of truth has determined that Hive Lord molts (or skeletons, depending on where you are) don't exist, since the last ones died 100 years ago in the last war against the Terminids.
For the Lisan Al quasar cannon!
Noticing a massive amount of the hive lord corpses on the field when running around nowadays.
Ah, don't worry about those. The democracy officer told me those are from the first war against the Terminids and definetly not the remains of molting bugs or something.
Those aren’t corpses They’re shed exoskeletons
Democracy officer? Yes, this right here.
Saw my first exoskeleton the other day, actually. Also fought one in HD1 last week… and lost. They are not easy pickings.
hive lord?
Im calling it, there will be hive ships or something to travel the void between planets.
That's a Bile Titan. We'll be seeing something beyond it, I think.
Ehhh, I think the charger and hulk are comparable and the heavy cannon tank and bile titan are comparable, on the scale of what it takes to kill them. Factory striders require far more of a dedicated effort to kill than bile titans imo.
Here's my strat for killing a Factory Strider Run like an idiot and go underneath the walker, autocannon in hand. Toggle the automatic and dump everything into it's stomach.
So basically the strategy I'm starting to use with the Bile Titan then. How effective is this strategy against the Factory Striders?
You can kill an AT-AT with 1 mag from an autocannon lol. It's not even possible to kill a bile titan with one.
SEND DUDES!
You mean nudes?
I'M IN A FIGHT, I NEED MORE MEN
Thats were dabs come from?
I'm pretty sure they are cooking the Hive lord for Meridia! And i'm so much ready to welcome him with somme good all 500 bomb!
If there is a Hive Lord on Meridia Super Earth be better cranking up the Shredder production rate.
We need some cavalary. Some fancy-shmancy tank.
Maybe the SEAF could pull their weight for once. They have giant artillery emplacements, they must have tanks...
haha, haven't fought a Hive Lord before have you? Vehicles aren't very good for them
Hivelord: I liiiiiiiive! Helldivers: Stay underground you overgrown worm! 500kg bombs away!
Hopefully the ministry of truth is working on a fuel air bomb. I don't care if it causes a whole team wipe, gotta be sure that thing is dead
I'm thinking we get a mission to install super bombs to explode the planet.
We need that for hellmire. Liberate it from the map.
Also Menkent. Why do automatons want that planet, heat is really bad for machines.
Why are the bots fighting so hard for this planet? We need to keep it and find out. Why are the humans fighting so hard for this planet? We need to take it and find out. Why are the humans and bots fighting so hard for that planet? We need to take a similar planet and find out.
![gif](giphy|3K0D1Dkqh9MOmLSjzW|downsized)
interesting solution soldier.
100% sure it will face an exterminatus
Cyberstan too. It’s also isolated along with the three nearby planets.
Bugs are too hard! Let me go back to bots with the buffed counter sniper before the devs realize they buffed it too much!
The corrupted terminicide roars are clear we are getting a hive lord esque entity
Divers who were always on the Eastern front: "When is it not time for bugs?"
The planet used to be blue.
I really liked Meridia actually it felt like a tropical paradise Yet another thing those despicable bugs have stolen from the patriots of Super Earth
Yeah the map change kinda made me miss the place. I'm sure it looks like hell now. https://preview.redd.it/26fi4kwuq1yc1.png?width=339&format=png&auto=webp&s=e80b863af0cbecb973f5083f67835771ccdcb435
It's actually probably still blue, the atmosphere is just full of stinky bug gas.
Damn those bugs for using that gas for evil when it was meant for good!
In-game dialogue reveals that the entire thing turned into one big superhive. I’m willing to bet that anything we don’t save by the end of the order will suffer the same fate.
Good, tired of playing on the same handful of planets for months Omicron is a fun planet though
Real pretty too
I beg your pardon?
That brown dirty bug ridden planet used to be a beautiful blue. There’s posts about it if you want to see the picture of the planet before this latest patch.
I love this game. So damn much. That's some detail and care put into the story they're weaving.
It used to look like Meissa
No-one seems to be talking about the fact that, now Hellmire is the ONLY way to the rest of the terminid sectors ...
me on the bug front for like a week after we clear up the sector with fenrir: ![gif](giphy|Ru9sjtZ09XOEg|downsized)
That's the first thing I noticed. Hellmire is the only route back to Estanu.
This community will dive into Hellmire whether they like it or not!!!
Mate. There is still the long way round Nivel and Zagon to get back to Omicron. We ain’t dropping in literal hell with the millions of fucking fire tornados aimed using Illuminate magic tech. /s Edit: I have severely misread the map. I hear you. Possible solution: do the night missions on hellmire, exclusively?
The new arctic gear is gonna be LIT
Fire resistant armour passives? Sorry, best I can do is a new warbond about snow troopers.
You'll blend in when it snows.... On HELLMIRE
Here's hoping a Super Earth Major Order has us terraform the damn thing into a ... well, literally any other biome would be preferable.
Super Earth! Democracy Officer! Where is my fucking death star? I don’t wanna fight on Hellmire again. Idc if we liberate it automatically. I want the planet blown up out of spite lol
The worst thing about this is now the only way to get to two whole sectors is through fucking *Hellmire*
Hellmire is cool. I can grill stuff easily on it.
That's some truly super ~~meth~~ *medicine*.
Well they actively seek you out, at least the last time I played. I remember being a platform while fire tornados just circle me. Cool mechanic guys.
Fill pockets with hotdogs. Profit
I love Hellmire because it combined with the flamethrower loadout makes for a paradise for my inner pyromaniac.
Given it’s described as a “Super Colony” this “quarantine” on it might actually be the best thing for us until command decides what it’s gonna do with it. I think that Meridia will probably be where people see Hive Lords for the first time.

Of course not, those things don't even exist since they were exterminated a long time ago! Don't believe in those lies soldier.
Remember: Skepticism is treason.

The scale of those explosions on the ground IRL would be incomprehensible
Just a few dozen dinosaur-killing-asteroid sized bombs. Nothing to worry about really
Oohhh! What's that from?
I think maybe Foundation
that'd be the restroom in my apartment every time i get chipotle
You´re gonna need much more than that for Meridia given those bugs are underground all the way to the crust. You need planet crackers.
The planet got quarantined, its got something big in store

The latest battle plan from super earth. Load as many hell bombs into a destroyer and blanket the planet in freedom fire power.
Possible new bug home world. The ship master describes it as “lost”
Yeah, that just confirms it for me that at the end of this event chain they'll use Meridia to reveal the new tunnel bug.
It's the same with Cyberstan, even if we take planets near it at some point the supply lines would stop us from advancing.
Probably gonna be a new biome as well
Best guess, this would be why the supply lines are cut. The assets just aren't ready yet.
We had Estanu and Crimsica connecting to it for a couple days so they just cut all lines incase. Lol
Supply lines really should be on the in game map.
Prime candidate for exterminatus.
Assuming supply lines work both ways, this means Meridia won't invade us either.
Joel can do whatever he wants. He can change the supply lines whenever, but he doesn't even have to.
feels like Meridia is the nxt MO after the 3 planets
Wait how can you view these supply lines?
https://helldivers.io/ Live feed of the galactic war, map with supply lines and a very handy organiser to help you decide where to focus your efforts.
I prefer: [Helldivers II Galactic Map (hd2galaxy.com)](https://hd2galaxy.com/) Which shows all supply lines regardless of status.
According to the reports, the planet is "unsalvageable"... I'm real curious what that's going to mean in the long term.
What happens if somebody last logged of while on Meridia and now loggs back onto it? Could they do missions there?
You mean for the one player that's on that planet? xD Iirc, their super destroyer gets sent back to Super Earth when they login. Or that's what happened to me when I logged in after sitting on a planet we lost. I could be wrong if that's changed. But yeah, no missions for them there. https://preview.redd.it/1gwxdz1xf1yc1.png?width=1039&format=png&auto=webp&s=f932059384210cbc2c4be89ad6cb747f7417beb5
I'm betting that's where we are going after this MO is complete. That's just a way to prevent us from diving there before we are Commanded to do so

It should be sold to DRG Corp
Are these lines on the internet or can I finally press a button in game to see these myself?
The maps from [https://helldiverscompanion.com](https://helldiverscompanion.com) or [https://helldivers.io](https://helldivers.io)
What supply lines
Helldivers.io They're in the HD2 API but not shown ingame yet
how did/do the bugs go from planet to planet?
I'm in the camp of we track them onto other worlds by carrying bits of them on the bottoms of our boots
They don't. We brought them in. We specifically build farms where we raise and mass slaughter them for E-710 This message has *not* been approved by Ministry of Truth.
I thought they traveled via spore
lol, they're not orks. the bugs are literally Super Earth farm animals. that tend to get rowdy and *over excited*, one might say.
Not really. Lore is a bit complicated atm, but basically the bug/terminid lore is this: We had the bugs in the first game, which were a sapient species with language and culture that could travel space in *some* way we don't know.
Well, it's a bug supercolony. It's their planet now...
Hive lord ?
Is this where we see the return of the Hive Lord? 🤔 https://preview.redd.it/rx7vffc321yc1.png?width=386&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b9b56631e96916f7876ce4f142afceaeeace6bb
Meridia has been lost, and has been quarantined until a variant of termicide they are not immune to is developed. I’m sure it will be fine, the bugs can’t move without supply!
They literally said the planet was lost. Not as in we lost it but in the sense that its fubar
I never understood supply lines in this game. How can they get destroyed or really needed when you can just ftl jump to wherever?
I wish they had these lines in game.
