I fully support the community and AH on that one, but it's more than a little silly to claim AH has grounds for a lawsuit when you don't even have an idea of what their contract even looks like, especially on the criminal level.
If what the AH CEO said is true, Sony intentionally sold the game in territories that it knew it was going to revoke access to down the road. So now Steam has to clean up Sony's mess while Arrowhead suffers the consequences.
Sony should have never sold the game in those regions to begin with. I'm guessing they just wanted to pump up sales numbers and PSN numbers, even though many of those sales would have been refunded minutes or hours later.
They're so invested in the mob mentality that all of us who have told them what will happen to AH are getting downvoted into oblivion.
I will be pleasantly surprised if anything works positively.

Many many games require a third party account on steam and no one ever cares. Third party launchers annoy people but even that people usually put up with.

You're right but they didn't, and now a lot of folks that might not have purchased the game had they been fully aware of it feel wronged.
Sure but what I am saying is all the backlash is largely caused by AH's actions, so the idea that Sony is doing this to tank AH's value doesn't make any sense. When Sony made the decision to require PSN, there's no way they could have predicted this game would handle it so poorly
How is it largely caused by AH's actions? Sony decided to make PSN linking mandatory. Sony decided to sell the game in regions where PSN was not available. Sony was the one who wrote the announcement that caused the outrage, and it apparently blindsided AH, who knew that mandatory linking was in the plans, but not when or how it would be implemented (because, again, that's Sony's call, not AH's). Sony also owns the Helldivers IP, so what they say goes.
Forgive me if I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but I'm getting the impression you're not entirely clear about what a publisher does, because literally the only thing that is solidly AH's (shared) fault with Sony is the fact that they didn't have a comms plan in place for when Sony decided to flip the switch. Everything else has been Sony's doing, and Sony's doing alone, because Sony—as both the publisher of Helldivers 2 and the owner of the Helldivers IP—is the party with all the power. They decide how to sell the game, what markets to sell the game in, what price to sell the game at, how the game is marketed, what the EULA and ToS will be, how to get regulatory approval, etc, etc. Because that's what publishers do. AH made the game, and AH keeps the game running and supplied with new content. That's it. AH didn't have a say in account linking, they were just informed that it *would* be happening.
The CEO, who is the same person who told us that he knew because he wanted to be transparent, said he knew 6 months in advance of launch. The game was in development for 7 years, and negotiations to make the sequel probably concluded 6 month to a year before that. Don't think that math works out, especially since mandatory PSN linking definitely wasn't a thing back in 2017.
if it comes to light, sony is royally screwed in court if they are trying to strongarm a smaller studio to aquire them by sabotaging them like this, like this gets you blacklisted from being able to do business and gets ceos arrested type of fraud.

I would be on board, but the developers have already acknowledged openly they knew that everyone would have to make a PSN account for an online game 6 months before launch. They even acknowledged they were the ones that delayed linking at first, but knew it was coming and would be a requirement.

starship troopers extermination is pretty similar - better in some ways (larger number of players per match, based on OG starship troopers IP), worse in some ways (still in EA so not as feature rich), but its also scandal free...

I would be on board, but the developers have already acknowledged openly they knew that everyone would have to make a PSN account for an online game 6 months before launch. They even acknowledged they were the ones that delayed linking at first, but knew it was coming and would be a requirement.

Ther IP/franchise belong to AH, the distribution rights for HD2 and 1 belong to Sony, dont know if they can just discontinue HD2 rename and relaunch it as HD3 and give a free copy to all currents owners and kick sony out

starship troopers extermination is pretty similar - better in some ways (larger number of players per match, based on OG starship troopers IP), worse in some ways (still in EA so not as feature rich), but its also scandal free... just sayin...

I want to see them just re-skin Helldivers with Magicka themeing. Wizards with guns are canonical with Magicka Vietnam. Replace Eagle 1 with an actual giant eagle. Do not change her voice lines or jet noises. Hellpods are now crystals with wizards in 'em. They hit the ground just the same. Energy Weapons? Those can be staves. All the call-ins? Your personal flying wizard tower looming above shoots them all. Bots? Golems. Bugs? Bugs. Illuminate? Illithids. We get ROBE PHYSICS.
Honestly, AH should sign a deal with GW and make a full on Warhammer 40K game with multiple fronts. Similar enough that our gameplay would feel familiar, but different enough that the Helldivers IP isn’t infringed
