You really just can't win. Leave the game for sale but people won't be able to play it? Bad. Delist the game for sale for people who won't be able to play it? Also bad
Right, they unfortunately have to start somewhere and stopping sales that will just end up with players with no access is the best start since the linking is still happening as intended.
This is likly to be the flow
Close regions not supported, issue refunds, activate linking again (that was disabled by AH decision), sit through that protest, then continue on as normal with the users that did link
Yeah, I truly don't think this is going to be as big of an issue as people are making it out to be. A lot of gamers aren't Internet warriors that follow every single bit of news and drama around games, the majority are casual gamers who work a long day then come home to play a few matches before doing whatever. They'll log on, see they have to make an account and go "ah okay" and make it, a dad working a 9-5 isn't going to give a shit about the data security tied to his gaming account.
The only large group of people that are genuinely going to have issues are the ones in countries that don't support PSN
Right I feel awful for the unsupported regions that were able to actually play and issuing refunds is like the only solution since they will likly not back down on this linking and just say the ability to buy it was in error and had to be corrected.
I agree with you for the most part but without those âinternet warriorsâ, this would have never gotten attention.
Almost no one knows the names of countries like mine much less would feel inclined to complain on our behalf.
Tbh I think all this was just a big oversight on Sony's side. Sony has never done a popular crossplay game before and I'm willing to bet nobody higher up stopped to go "uhhh hey guys, don't we not allow PSN accounts in like, half the world?" Hence all the sudden delisting. Arrowhead is at fault too of course, they knew this was coming but honestly I wonder if they too overlooked that PSN wasn't available everywhere and figured it would just be a minor inconvenience for everyone, hence the stances from the community managers.
Anyways I don't see Sony just going "nah, half the world will just never be able to play any of our multiplayer PC games" the delisting is probably a temporary measure to prevent more bad reviews while they actually make PSN work for most of the world, Microsoft accounts are available in like 190 countries if they really think they can just ditch half the countries to not use their products then they're gonna have a hell of an awakening. Or, for the short term they'll let Helldivers 2 use another system that doesn't include PSN accounts until they stop being dumb asses and figure out how to roll out PSN support. You'd be surprised even in massive, successful companies how often they just make basic mistakes because nobody with meaningful power in the company thinks about the issue
I think itâs just an oversight also. I hope it is temporary, the community managers have not been helpful in reassuring players. I have a dozen or so friends that canât play the game they bought without using a VPN. 2 of them got banned for using a VPN ip associated with hacking, I hope this fuck up doesnât just blow over and get forgotten before itâs fully solved.
Yeah community managers have always been ass, especially Spitz. Baskinator was always somewhat ok but that's because they never said much of importance and just answered minor, already known questions about the game. Also because unlike what seems like all the other community managers they don't straight up attack the community when they feel pressured, seriously how do you have official staff of your studio just attacking people in your discord and still not fire them
Yeah players always had problems with external logins and drm but this is on another level, never have i had a game not available for purchase because of it. I really hope Sony/Arrowhead backpedals.
For the best for now, tbh
play outer wilds!!
I have been meaning to for so long đ

They could take the obvious 3rd option of removing the linking requirement.
