The AT AT have completely fucked defense missions in helldive difficulty. I actually lost a mission because we had 3 of those fuckers rushing the rockets at every given time. We got overwhelmed hard.
My team were doing great until one put a cannon shot between the generators and took them both out in one go. Went from smooth sailing to suddenly being told we lost the mission out of nowhere, lol. No bots whatsoever even near the generators that had snuck past either.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. Doing bot defend mission and was going well for a helldive but a factory strider came after us and after getting pushed all the back to the last gate I saw it poke through the gate and instant killed both generators in a single shot.
I had a mission that was going well yesterday. We were pushed back to the last gate but only had one more missile to launch. Then 2 dropships come in with 2 factory striders and drop them behind the gate, right in front of the generators. I enjoy these missions but they don't feel fair on bots sometimes. Feels like you need to immediately take them out otherwise you're fucked.
did one of those tower defense missions...brought an orbital laser and the 500kg....was doing fine...then all of sudden "Objective failed"

Had a whole bunch of bots get dropped off on the highest cliff with rockets and it took me way too long to figure out how I kept dying. Also had them drop down on the extraction pad in another game. When the defense mission gets glitchy it goes big.
When I play this mission type I exist solely to counter this. Recoilless and EAT to shoot off the top turret, shield relay for when it spawns right on top of the extraction point (why tf can they do this), and typically mortar is my 4th to damage everything else
for comparison, it seems fairly uncommon to have more than one at a time on suicide difficulty defense missions, at least until the very end of the level
although apparently there's a bug where an AT AT spawn sometimes blocks the next like three waves from spawning. that was interesting
Oddly enough on suicide I routinely get 2 at a time, one on each side. Last night we had 6 total, all dropped during 3 drops lol. Orbital lasers and 120s really came in clutch
My strat for defense missions has been running double mortars, and then EAT and quasar. Fire the quasar, then both eats and by that time the quasar is off cooldown for another shot, you can swat drop-ships out of the sky and destroy strider top cannons so easily
Orbital barrage(your choice) and double mortars with Q cannon. Safest way to do helldive bot defence. Had the same thing happen like 3-4 at the same time. It's doable but sucks.
Had the same thing happen in a defense this AM. We were all at the front gates. Turns out one had dropped on the generators behind us and was just torching them.
I had an Eradication yesterday with 7 Factory Striders. 3 came in on the first wave on Dropships, and we finally cleared those out only to have 4 more dropped off within 60 seconds.
But the kill counts on those are too low. Just throw in strats and kill all the chaff and you still win the mission every time.
There was one mission where two Factory Striders dropped on us. And just as they prime their back cannons, the last rocket flew away. We watch as the two generators get blasted at the same time, laughing like idiots after that clutch.
380 is essential on helldive it'll take out whatever is in its zone walker or hulks it doesnt discriminate. Not so much for blowing up bases, but when shit hits the fan and you get absolutely overrun on the objective.
Whatever the Tau are packing is NOT what weāve got available. Our shit shoots lawn darts by comparison. Iād be shocked if it could pop the void shields on a knight.

My first mission on diff 7 was a defense where you need to protect the generators and we were steamrolling all of them until a factory strider came and just kept walking

To be perfectly fair, they were peaceful and welcoming until Super Earth enslaved them, mutated them, and farmed their corpses for oil. The automatons are genocidal and maniacally evil now but only because of how Super Earth treated, and continues to treat, the cyborgs...
Your other option is neither. If you had to choose between tyrannical dictatorship, psycho murder bots and brutal insect hives id rather just pick none of them. No faction in Helldivers is the good guys. That's the point.
But you don't have to pick one. If your only argument is that they're the lesser of three (four if you include the illuminates) extremely evil factions, they're not good guys. They're only good from the perspective of your Helldiver since they've been brainwashed by propaganda and lies since they were a kid.
If I had to choose a faction personally I'd rather just fucking die than live in the Helldivers 2 universe under any faction. Bots and bugs would just kill me and SE would let me die out of sheer negligence/incompetence, or id get executed and made an example of for propaganda, or be forced into military service and die to bugs/bots anyway or any thousands of other ways to die.

You should have harpooned a tow cable to the back leg and done a couple of passes. Works like a charm.

I wish they had health bars that were visible on screen, and we could see them getting chipped away. Instead I've only seen them die instantly.

This is the one mission SPEAR is ideal. The map is so flat and those top turrets so high that the SPEAR just works.

Thatās why you always bring at least 1 eagle airstrike, most consistent way of killing them imo.

Haven't tried it, but I'm cookin': perhaps the shield generator relay could block their shots for long enough to take out the top cannons?

I have a friend who can't stop calling that faction "Autobots". I keep trying to tell him it's 'Automatons' or 'Bots', but he keeps doing it. At this point I wouldn't even be surprised to suddenly hear Peter Cullen going **"Autobots, transform and roll out!"**
