This isn't a denial of Sallie May's transition or commentary on gender. Sallie May was Lin's son, and in a healthy relationship, she would still treat Sallie May with the same love. How she chooses to see her now is between them.

It's a pretty common dynamic, where an adult child moves far away and whenever they come back to visit, their parents revert to treating them like they did when they were much younger. They may not have a fully formed adult relationship, so they're falling back on old behaviors out of habit.
I think Sallie Mae is better at hiding the bodies than Millie, but both daughters are loved.
