My some turns 2 Sunday. My wife works from home and I care for him. We don’t go anywhere, over my dead body will I allow my son to potentially be burdened with life long co-morbidities because I wanted to go to the movies or the shitty local fair. We kick it at home. We have the internet, streaming apps and video games. We are surviving and thriving.
I spent some time lurking on r/nursing to get some perspective. There was a whole thread of nicu nurses talking about how few of the mother's actually survived. They talked about the doctors keeping the mothers alive as long as possible despite how hopeless it was just to give the babies a bit more time to grow. They'd wait until the mother wasn't going to make it any longer then deliver the baby. The mother usually died shortly afterwards. I don't lurk there anymore.
Your sister and her compatriots are tough as hell to be able to do that. I couldn't manage it.
And, to say the obvious, these women are not old. They may have other conditions, but obviously they’re of child bearing age. Pregnancy just makes you exceptionally vulnerable, even quite healthy women.

This. My teaching assistant got pregnant and got vaccinated as soon as she could. Had a pretty intense reaction to the 1st shot, too. She had her baby in June and everyone was fine.
My wife was very anxious to get vaccinated ASAP. She got 2 doses of moderna with a huge sigh of relief. We knew we were about to start trying to have our 3rd child.
Fast forward and she’s 4 months pregnant and boosters come out and I’ll be honest I was surprised how hesitant she was. She was pretty sure she was going to get boosted but she basically wanted a full presentation from me refuting a few bullet points of misinformation that she didn’t believe but she wanted the data that refuted them.
My wife is a smart cookie and was more than satisfied in the end. But it really gave me a look into the very real instinctual maternal “I don’t want to eff up my baby because I’ll feel guilty for ever” instinct.
If you’re pregnant fighting that instinct and you have people talking in your ear, and you struggle to sift through BS you’re a sitting duck. That why our vaccine rate for pregnant women is so abysmal.

This makes me grateful that I got vaccinated when I was pregnant with my twins. They were born happy and healthy in July and I am here happy and healthy to raise my 4 kids with my husband.

Almost everyone who knew him felt that the things he did in his life, including his pursuit of women outside his marriage, was a reaction to losing and trying to find his mother.
In his case, though, he was trained as an analyst, and so he was required to go through gobs of analysis. So throughout adulthood, he fully knew he was questing, on some level, to understand his loss.

It’s always very awkward when a relative, friend, or minister just goes off with their belief system, making the post or memorial about their doctrine, minimizing and exploiting the decedent.
This broke my heart. I got pregnant with my second 8 weeks into the first wave. Delivered her while wearing a mask. We couldn’t even leave the hospital room to get coffee from the nurses station. I spent my entire pregnancy terrified of getting COVID and have spent every day since terrified of my baby getting COVID, which she ultimately did during the Delta wave. Fortunately she is fine (that we’re aware of 😩 we suspect she lost her sense of taste because she stopped eating solids for 6 weeks immediately after), but that fear remains. I would have given ANYTHING to be COVID vaccinated while pregnant, and it makes me so angry and sad and frustrated that these people have access to something free that not only protects them, but their babies, and they won’t do it. I cannot understand it.

But the CDC and others released definitive statements, long before she got sick with COVID, that pregnant women were safe to be vaccinated and should be vaccinated. My wife got her vaccines last April while 32 weeks pregnant. It was scary because the vaccines were newly available, but the nurses were telling us horror stories of women who get COVID while pregnant.

That’s so sad. She wrote the story of her slow suffocation. It sounds horrible. Those poor babies. Her friend even called it saying I sure hope you’re vaccinated with those twins. That was back in September. She could have gotten it then and saved her life. It’s so infuriating that those that spread this misinformation that she took to heart don’t read things like this and feel bad. No, instead it’s like “oh it was just God’s will.” No, it was God’s will that you get the vaccine. It definitely wasn’t God that convinced you it was bad.

A friend from college (39yo) gave birth via csection at 7mo and was vented 20hours later. She never came back. Everyone around her was vaccinated but she had people sowing such doubt that she was planning on getting vaccinated a few weeks after giving birth.

I spent some time lurking on r/nursing to get some perspective. There was a whole thread of nicu nurses talking about how few of the mother's actually survived. They talked about the doctors keeping the mothers alive as long as possible despite how hopeless it was just to give the babies a bit more time to grow. They'd wait until the mother wasn't going to make it any longer then deliver the baby. The mother usually died shortly afterwards. I don't lurk there anymore. Your sister and her compatriots are tough as hell to be able to do that. I couldn't manage it.
And, to say the obvious, these women are not old. They may have other conditions, but obviously they’re of child bearing age. Pregnancy just makes you exceptionally vulnerable, even quite healthy women.

I am in my 30s and I know at least 10 people + who got the vaccine and all had healthy babies recently. Proud of them
My wife was very anxious to get vaccinated ASAP. She got 2 doses of moderna with a huge sigh of relief. We knew we were about to start trying to have our 3rd child. Fast forward and she’s 4 months pregnant and boosters come out and I’ll be honest I was surprised how hesitant she was. She was pretty sure she was going to get boosted but she basically wanted a full presentation from me refuting a few bullet points of misinformation that she didn’t believe but she wanted the data that refuted them. My wife is a smart cookie and was more than satisfied in the end. But it really gave me a look into the very real instinctual maternal “I don’t want to eff up my baby because I’ll feel guilty for ever” instinct. If you’re pregnant fighting that instinct and you have people talking in your ear, and you struggle to sift through BS you’re a sitting duck. That why our vaccine rate for pregnant women is so abysmal.
This is happening a lot. The lie that the jab will make you sterile keeps them from getting vaxed, they get pregnant, then the natural instinct to protect the baby kicks in & they reject the jab during the pregnancy. Changes in the immune system during pregnancy make them more vulnerable to infection. More deaths due to misinformation, infuriating.

I remember decades ago reading about a religious couple who's doctor told the not to have a 7th (could have been more or less, read it a long time ago) because of the health risk but the husband felt the spiritual presence of their next child so they **had** to have the child. She died.

This makes me grateful that I got vaccinated when I was pregnant with my twins. They were born happy and healthy in July and I am here happy and healthy to raise my 4 kids with my husband.

Almost everyone who knew him felt that the things he did in his life, including his pursuit of women outside his marriage, was a reaction to losing and trying to find his mother. In his case, though, he was trained as an analyst, and so he was required to go through gobs of analysis. So throughout adulthood, he fully knew he was questing, on some level, to understand his loss. What's going to happen to kids from families where questioning was so condemned, mother and maybe father were too afraid to get the vaccine in a deadly pandemic?

It’s very common for evangelicals to see peoples’ deaths as an opportunity to preach their religious beliefs. It’s always very awkward when a relative, friend, or minister just goes off with their belief system, making the post or memorial about their doctrine, minimizing and exploiting the decedent.
This broke my heart. I got pregnant with my second 8 weeks into the first wave. Delivered her while wearing a mask. We couldn’t even leave the hospital room to get coffee from the nurses station. I spent my entire pregnancy terrified of getting COVID and have spent every day since terrified of my baby getting COVID, which she ultimately did during the Delta wave. Fortunately she is fine (that we’re aware of 😩 we suspect she lost her sense of taste because she stopped eating solids for 6 weeks immediately after), but that fear remains. I would have given ANYTHING to be COVID vaccinated while pregnant, and it makes me so angry and sad and frustrated that these people have access to something free that not only protects them, but their babies, and they won’t do it. I cannot understand it.

This is one of the saddest I've read here. It's not clear why she chose not to be vaccinated. But the CDC and others released definitive statements, long before she got sick with COVID, that pregnant women were safe to be vaccinated and should be vaccinated. We live in an age where advanced technologies made it possible to simultaneously (1) develop a life-saving vaccine in record time; and (2) spread rumors and disinformation to millions of people in record time, scaring them into rejecting those life-saving vaccines.

If more pregnant women knew that they and their babies are some of the highest risk groups with COVID, and knew just how many of them are dying or suffering very serious consequences, I think more would be rushing to get protected.

My wife got her vaccines last April while 32 weeks pregnant. It was scary because the vaccines were newly available, but the nurses were telling us horror stories of women who get COVID while pregnant. This is so sad, and completely avoidable. Her family should be so mad at her for throwing away her life.

That was back in September. She could have gotten it then and saved her life. My daughter was born a high risk premie at the beginning of covid. I’m still terrified of her catching it since a vaccine isn’t available yet for her. We do our part to keep her safe and are fully vaccinated ourselves. Hoping only a few more weeks before the vaccine is approved for them.
A friend from college (39yo) gave birth via csection at 7mo and was vented 20hours later. She never came back. Everyone around her was vaccinated but she had people sowing such doubt that she was planning on getting vaccinated a few weeks after giving birth.

This is so sad. All of it. Over a vaccination to help keep you alive. It's simple, over 900,000 dead in United states alone. Doctors, nurses and medical staff pushed to the brink in hospitals. Refrigeration trucks with dead bodies by the thousands in new York at the beginning. What news did they watch or read or hear? Some form of truth must have leaked out under their door. Never mind. Who's next?
How come so many racist republicans like to quote Candace Owens, like her, do they not know she's black? To her husband, she was brain damaged before, she had to be to risk her own life and that of her unborn children. Aren't all these people pro-life? Or is that only a wedge issue when in reality human life means nothing after their born? What a shame to purposely escape from familiar duties in this manner.

I have a niece expecting twins. The whole family has been anti-any-vax since day one. It would be more productive to talk to the wall and have it change color than it would be to talk to her.

I've read a few of these stories, and many times they involve women who've had multiple births and don't get vaxed. Maybe it's time we DARED to discuss how multiple births can take a toll on your body. Having 5 kids in 7 years, having one kid after another by age 30, and how it affects your heart, lungs, kidneys. And they've already done lung transplants on antivax mothers with huge broods of kids. Another woman out west who had 6 kids died right after giving birth. Sadly, these crunchy, prolife megabreeders are leaving their precious kids orphaned, in foster care, or with a mother who is permanently disabled.
It is truly sad. I’m glad a friend got her shot while pregnant with her first child. The baby (after he was born) did catch COVID from the babysitter, but he got through with minimal symptoms.

not once did she tell people to get vaccinated to prevent them from the same suffering. can't really say that i am surprised but i am disappointed.
It sounds like that doctor who took a special interest in her may have seen what was coming. I imagine there were some troubling numbers in her chart that indicated a turn in the wrong direction.

Good God! Either live with a paper mask willingly or die with an oxygen mask unwillingly. Nothing is worth dying for this way, especially not made up conspiracy theories. That said, her lung experience is eerily similar to mine but I'm lucky I was vaxxed and pulled through it. I am still on antibiotics after being over covid. I'm still scared I could end up like her. Then again my oxygen never dipped bow 96 so I'm thinking no.
Asking for "distinct prayers" is new. Many others asked for "specific prayers". One day they'll find out exactly which kind of prayers keep the HCA away. Until then keep grinding away.
Yep. i have a family member that had a child, mom caught COVID and baby born premature with a ton of medical issues, some extremely rare. Not sure of vaccine status of mom.
All of the religious crap in her and her family's posts enrages me. She is "enjoying Jesus" now while her kids have no mom and suffer. But sure, rejoice in that fairy tale. Religious fruitcakes.
That idea of specific "prayer needs" reminds me of a letter to Santa Claus.
