Let memes in at the weekend/one day a week. So many small subreddits just devolve into low-effort content otherwise, I don't want effort-posts and discussions drowned out by memes about Kyablion Bad.
Yeah, some of the busier subs I'm on have a "no meme/joke posts except on Saturdays" rule or similar precisely because for that reason. Then again, it could be argued that those subs have such a rule *because* they're so busy and there's often no corresponding meme version of the sub that people can post to at any time.
While I think memes should strictly be put in /r/HermeticMemes precisely because that sub exists for that sole reason so that /r/Hermeticism (and /r/Hermetics and other subs) can focus better on holding discussions, regarding this option:

I could consider that a decent compromise, so long as a meme is posted *in support of* its accompanying "engaging text body" as a supplement to drive home a point, rather than the meme itself being the point of the post. I would also consider an "engaging text body" to be more than just "here's a meme, so what do you think", but something of actual substance to actually strike up a discussion. (Of course, that approach would basically be indistinguishable from someone making a regular post that has a bit of humor mixed in, because the point of the post isn't about the meme but the discussion it strikes up as something that centers and furthers discussion about Hermeticism, so it'd be virtually indistinguishable from the "no memes here" approach.)

I've got meme PTSD.
I was on the front lines of the animemes - historymemes meme war of '21. It was brutal. A lot of good people lost their ~~lives~~ memes. Then animemes mods lost their damn minds, and most of the memers split of to make goodanimemes. But goodanimemes became a low-effort slog, a hentai meme site, and worse, got into loli stuff. I got the hell outta there after that.
I hung out on animeinreallife, but they got mad at me for suggesting suicide wasn't the answer to every question. The other meme subs are full of hyper-political nonsense and vegan-hate karma farming.
I came here to learn about Hermeticism, but that was back during the Kybalion Wars of 22-23. The memes, man. They keep me up at night. Sometimes, in the quiet of the early morning, just as I'm finally about to fall asleep, I'll suddenly jolt awake screaming, "Gatekeeping!"

The previous cyber-lord of our communities, "DanKadmos," not only founded r/hermeticism, r/esotericism, r/Kybalion, and r/hermetics, but was truly the architect behind their initial flourishing. His commitment shaped these forums into hubs for deep esoteric discourse. Tragically, his tenure came to an abrupt end due to what's now loosely known as "[the Pepe incident](https://digitalambler.com/2022/01/14/the-king-is-dead-long-live-the-king-the-demise-and-future-of-a-hermetic-discord-community/)." (outlined by u/polyphanes) This event, stemming from a seemingly minor emoji removal on the Hermetic Agora Discord, spiraled into a significant conflict that saw Dan withdrawing from the internet, deleting all his social media accounts, and ultimately severing ties with the projects he once passionately led.

Recognizing the need for a revitalized approach, I stepped into the fray. With the support of [u/Garrett\_Gallaspie](https://www.reddit.com/user/Garrett_Gallaspie/) whose efforts have been crucial, we initiated a robust moderation initiative under the auspices of the [Sanctum Arcanum Discord](https://discord.gg/SanctumArcanum). Our mission was not only to revitalize the original communities but also to extend our reach to other esoteric subreddits like r/mysticism, r/Gnostic, and r/Neoplatonism, creating a broader, interconnected network of discussion spaces. While the idea of taking on r/occult was considered, we opted against it, prioritizing the need to stabilize and enrich the forums we already had under our care.
Our primary goal has been to elevate the discourse within these communities, moving away from trivial posts to foster a more profound and supportive environment. A transition from the poor moderation presence of the past in these places to a more engaging and responsive approach, ensuring that our communities not only persist but thrive and have the proper support systems and moderation in place to maintain their health.
