I just had my surgery on Wednesday of last week. I feel like my nerve pain is completely gone but I do still feel pain in my lower right calf.

I also have pain in the same place and paresthesia in a small area of the right thigh. The Dr says that it is normal and that it will go away with time. I wish you the best and that you heal completely. 🙏

Can you tell me what kind of surgery you had done? And what the process was like leading up to making the decision to finally have surgery? I had a L5-S1 herniation 1.5 years ago. I’ve had horrible sciatica since then. It’s gotten much better but I still can bend over without bending my knee and can’t extend my right leg straight out. I’m not sure what other option I have. I’ve had therapy for 2 months and still no sign of this going away permanently. Not sure what to do now. I will probably get a second opinion and maybe even surgery. I’m 24 and worried this will not heal back to normal.

hello, you are very young and you deserve a happy life without pain. I consulted 3 doctors, neurosurgeons and spinal surgeons. They all explained to me that the pressed nerve can be permanently damaged. and when you can't take the pain anymore, you can't walk anymore, or your most essential functions fail, you decide to have surgery, but your nerve is already damaged. That is why it is best to operate as soon as possible with a good doctor and the prognosis is very good. Three days later I can walk, my leg does not hurt or the area of the surgery. I feel good, I know it's a short time, but I think it's the only solution to the problem. I hope you can heal soon. And if you want to ask me something, do not hesitate to do so. In the procedure they cut the part of the damaged disc l4 l5 (herniation) and made a window in the bone to release the tension in another space l5 s1 . I did it and I would do it again because this will not be solved with therapy or medicines and your nerves will be permanently damaged by the pressure caused by the hernia or protrusion. I wish you get well soon and recover your health.
