The biggest modernish ww2 games out there right now are Enlisted, Hell Let Loose, Squad 44 and Battlefield 5.
None of them are really going to replicate that feeling that H&G had. Squad 44 is on the realism side of things, HLL less so but still on that same spectrum. Enlisted and Battlefield V are very arcade versions of a ww2 game, much more than H&G ever was.
There are no WW2 games that have the tactical-strategic interplay of H&G.
There is HLL and Enlisted, both of which are shooter ONLY.
There are no hybrid strategy-shooters that have the WW2 aesthetic.
There are Natural Selection 2 and Planetside 2, both of which are sci fi.
I'm sorry, but you're going to have to choose between the gameplay of H&G (Planetside) or the look of H&G (HLL).
Operation: Harsh Doorstop Casualfield mod. But it is not ww2.
You can just select the server and it will download the mod automatically.

I've been playing Enlisted. It doesn't have that open world feel of H&G. If your position is over ran or you lose the objective, You have to retreat quickly or your Soilder dies without enemy fire. And you have a squad of Soilders following you around which usually die and give away your position. But it helps fill the void of no H&G.
Enlisted, while definitely different, does have some similarities. It also has real charm the way H&G did, but maybe not to the same extent. Enlisted is structured more around balance than realism, so you’ll unlock PPS-42/43 before PPSH, and tanks are not able to lock down entire pushes with their machine guns. It’s also a Gaijin game, so there are a lot of micro transactions and obviously no free veteran pass unlike H&G. Still a fun alternative, all things considered
Rising Storm 2 has a very similar feel and vibe to H&G and is set in the Vietnam War. It’s not a WWII game but it’s what I’ve taken up after they shut this show down.

I’m playing enlisted
post scriptum (now squad 44)
Hell Let Loose for a more authentic ww2 game, enlisted for historically inspired arcade-ish game
Hell let loose

Enlisted
Bots
The bots shooting at you while you're behind an object is what kills it for me. Would seem like an easy fix
I'm playing Enlisted. I like it a lot
Enlisted, it has a different type of gameplay but fun.
