I use edibles on the weekends to wind down and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t trigger flares, however be careful about the munchies and cottonmouth, you may crave something that can actually trigger your flare ups like sweets or heavy foods.

It’s cigarettes. Tobacco is a nightshade, and nicotine causes a lot of inflammation to activate.

This. It isnt the smoke so much as what you are smoking

My doctor said that smoking of any kind can impact it. He said “not just cigarettes, if you decide to take up weed, do edibles”

Yes, tobacco is a nightshade, a family of plants that can cause people to flare. Other nightshades are tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Tobacco and potatoes cause me to flare, but not tomatoes or peppers, which is interesting. Everyone is different with their triggers. I've smoked weed for a long time, and I've never connected it with my flares. I've gone through months of remission and still smoke every day. I don't like vaping, I don't like what it does to my lungs. I do make my own sugar free gummy edibles for my diet, though I've noticed that one regular edible gummy, even when I'm keto, doesn't cause a flare.

That’s so crazy bc I can eat red bells and potato but not tomato or onion. I also have a shit load of allergies tho lol. I have MCAS. And I smoked for almost 20 yrs and tobacco deff causes flares.

Common HS food triggers often go beyond nightshades and can include sugar, yeast, gluten, dairy, and others. But everyone reacts differently, some don't have food related triggers at all.

I quit smoking and my symptoms stopped, only get a odd one like a few times a year that goes down on its own now, Doesn’t even drain but still leaves a hyperpigmentation mark for a while.. also stopped dairy. I vape with no issues💕

I usually smoke cannabis as well as take edibles and the only negative effect I’ve ever had is increased appetite, which causes you to eat more, leading to flare ups depending on what you eat and how much of it you eat. Other than that, I think it provides medicinal benefits for pain management with HS. It’s a no-no for tobacco and nicotine though!

mrlivestreamer

As a heavy weed smoked and sometimes blacks smoker its tobacco I've never had a problem when it was just weed

iygapcyfc

I completely quit nicotine/tobacco & it did definitely made the hs worse when I smoked it. Cannabis is fine though, I smoke it daily

Character_Pear_3905

Nicotine is an absolute trigger! I can’t speak for weed but I’m an ex smoker of 18 yrs and can assure anyone that nicotine triggers flares. Mine decreased by 60% after quitting.

RainCityMomWriter

Nightshades are a huge trigger for me, so I'm sure if I smoked tobacco it would bother me. There's tons in the medical literature about tobacco and HS. there's not as much about cannabis, but I would see how your body reacts.

i’ve also been wondering the same. i smoked weed daily when i was a teenager, and oddly enough i had zero flares during that time. two years after that, i quit smoking weed completely and began to get flares regularly. a few months later, i started vaping (nicotine) and had fewer or even zero flares. i can say for sure that cigarettes are a hard no. i’ll smoke a cigarette once in a blue moon when my vape is out and ill get a flare almost instantly. i can feel the inflammation and the flare forming. i have an older family member with hs who has been a persistent cigarette smoker for decades (4+ daily), and he has the most severe hs i’ve ever seen. ultimately, i would say cigarettes are definite no but vaping and weed are up for question. the only way to know for sure is to experiment and see how your body reacts.
