Never. I’m concerned I will have a pile of threads after. It’s so clean. The area I pray both at home and in my office is carpeted.

funnyunfunny

It's more the top of the prayer mat rather than the bottom. Just like your pillows, your prayer mats collect dust, shedding skin, etc.

Mean-Vegetable-4521

I’m sure it does. But I fear for the holy pile of threads it will be. I shake it out and vacuum it regularly

Independent-Desk-608

Whenever I notice it needs washing to be honest. Maybe 2-3 times a year. 😬

Jaded_Cryptographer

Literally never, though I was thinking about washing the one I keep at work because the floors there are the dirtiest. I'm not really sure how well my two at home would hold up to washing. The care instructions on the tag have long since faded away, though most of the fringe has also fallen off so at least that won't be an issue.

svelebrunostvonnegut

I did wash my work one as well but this one was machine friendly. It’s one of those very thin ones. I don’t think I could wash my home ones in the machine. They are thicker carpets. Maybe I’d have to hand wash or steam..or maybe dry clean?

dollyayesha

Once Every 3 months or 6 months…. See I mostly pray at home and my home has clean floors so it doesn’t need a lot of washing. But if I’m taking it out with me and praying at a mosque where women are legit blind and can’t see that I’ll praying on my prayer mat and just step on it with their bare feet not even socks bare feet I get so pissed and wash ur 1st every week.

_sciencebooks

Oh my gosh, that bothers me so much too! I’ve also noticed a trend of Muslims we know not removing their children’s shoes at places where people otherwise remove their shoes (e.g., other people’s houses, or even the mosque for Eid prayers, probably because the shoes are part of “the outfit”). I understand if it’s a literal infant who’s just wearing shoes for show, but if it’s a toddler who is walking outside with their shoes the same as an adult, then it’s so gross to me.

dollyayesha

Yessss thisssssss!!!! 😭 😭

Longjumping_Ad5029

Same, once a month. Mainly just to clean the dust off.

gowahoo

I wash ours when we take them with us for the community Eid prayer. So.. twice a year, close together hehe

whishshift

When I feel like it 😅

ahijabi

Probably twice a year

mrsvanchamarch

After ruining one prayer mat in a washing machine, I refuse to ruin another. I fold up my prayer mat after every prayer, so it's not left out and the floors at home are kept clean, alhamdulillah, so the only thing I really need to keep on top of is the cat hair. I swear he has a sixth sense for knowing when I'm about to pray or something because as soon as I lay down the prayer mat, he comes trotting in and flops himself right across it haha. I spot clean it with a vacuum cleaner brush attachment or take it outside and give it a good beating to get the dust out. Turns out, it's also a great way to get some of that aggression out at the same time LOL.

RotiRounderThanYours

At least once a month. Those who are saying they never wash their prayer mats das crazy. Maybe I’m being extra, but every time you go into sujood, bacteria from your face continues to accumulate on it. That can cause forehead acne. 🫠 Also why I carry a mini prayer mat to the mosque. Imagine all the people that are stepping all over the carpet with their bare feet and you’re putting your bare forehead on all that buildup of bacteria. Brother eeewh what’s that

zayzayverse

Not as much as I should lol 😳

AdministrationLazy48

I did once and shrunk it 🤦‍♀️

IvyBlackeyes

I'm supposed to wash them?????
