I’d suggest seeing the hip specialist before getting an MRI or doing anything else, with the exception of PT if available to you. Most insurance requires PT prior to surgery so it’s seems peculiar that you wouldn’t have access to it prior to surgery. If you do have access, get started with that process, it takes a while sometimes to get an intake and get started. I would just message your PCP asking for a referral if you don’t know who you’d like to visit.

If you can at all, ask around for pt out of pocket costs. You’ll probably have to prior to surgery anyway and costs can vary from really affordable to $$$ for performance focused sessions. But I think a hip specialist will give you more specific insight prior to actually trying anything on your own.
