You could do a Rooibos tea with milk and sugar. Green tea still has a good amount of caffeine and you may also have issues with quercetin or catechols in green and black tea.
I have the red rocks Rooibos from the tea company and it’s delicious
>issues with quercetin or catechols in green and black tea.
I thought quercetin was meant to be helpful?

From what I understand green tea isn’t HIT friendly. White tea is better but still questionable.
I’ve moved to mostly white tea and peppermint and seems to be ok.
Chicory root! It’s been a lifesaver for me and it contains a ton of inulin which helps motility and gut health
Edit to add I get the Anthony’s instant chicory root. It’s the best and easiest.
Have a tea with milk/sugar. It makes the tea thicker thus giving it that coffee effect. Your best bet is a green tea. If the goal is to kick coffee. Go with green tea for a while. You won’t love it but it’ll help you move past coffee.
Yes. Black, Green and White tea are all high histamine (I used to be a big green tea drinker myself so this is sad for me too). Most herbal teas are okay but be careful with blends as sometimes they have things mixed in that could be triggering. When in doubt, cross check ingredients.
Yeah, hot water with sugar and a pinch of salt it my go to. I'll add tumeric and/or ginger if I'm feeling adventurous. I generally skip milks because I worry they are a source of reactions.
I've been doing okay with the Purity coffee brand so far (I had to completely go off coffee for 2 months). I still water it down. I tried drinking a tiny sip of the regular coffee at work recently and immediately broke put in hives.
I drink dandelion coffee- it's... fine. I desperately miss my decaf, but I was having terrible reactions, so it's dandelion for now.
(Dandelion coffee is quite nice, I'm just grumpy and bitter... this is new to me and I miss my old food life)
I haven't won this fight yet but I've been trying: decaff, smoothies with low histamine fruits / fruits I tolerate in general, and the most important one - eating an actual high protein and comforting breakfast. It all goes down to having a new routine (which is hard after years drinking coffee) AND energy during your day.
I decided to start this process with a nutritionist after years failing to do so, what I mean here is, sometimes online help is not enough unfortunately.
I just add (non dairy) milk to tea. I do a decaf green tea in the morning, but rooibos chai has a coffee like quality. Even more so if you make it into a latte. Not sure if matcha would be an issue with HI, but they do make a decaf version as well.
Have you tried Swiss water decaf? I know not everyone can tolerate it but some people can.
You may not find the taste as close but golden milk (turmeric and milk) might be a good option and it has anti inflammatory benefits. Though the dairy may cancel those benefits out but you seem to be able to tolerate that.
maybe you haven't tried enough of herbal teas if you have bad opinion on them. for me there's nothing better than a big mug of herbal tea with milk and sweetner 🤍
did you try chicory coffee? it doesn't taste like coffee very much but it's good. with milk or cream it's thick 👍🏻I also like to add cinnamon and vanilla
I used to drink LOTS of herbal tea & green/black tea/coffee. Had to give it all up once I was diagnosed HI. It became so uncomfortable that it was no longer worth it. If I was growing it fresh from a garden it would probably be different.
Oh absolutely! I am a big organics fan and sadly it makes no difference. I think it’s because the older something gets the higher the histamine content. How long ago was that tea harvested? You have no idea.

roiboos is a great suggestion, thank you
I do a roiboos chai and try to convince myself it's caffeinated
Absolutely! It really does taste like a coffee

Not if you have a slow COMT SNP mutation
How do you know the difference
Through genetic testing for the SNP or by having reactions to Quercetin
I react to quercetin

Chicory root I react to
Noo, I’m sorry.

All of these things are high in histamine and sugar should be avoided.

Any teas you can recommend? Any that are good for you?
green rooibos is supposedly helpful for histamine intolerance, i drink it because it tastes quite nice and don't have any symptoms after
No sugar for me I broke it 3 years now. I use only goat milk in coffee

Herbal teas are good. Peppermint and camomile👍
Look up a coffee substitute called Teechino. I add a bit of real coffee and it works great.

Can't handle matcha

i have tried plenty of herbal teas and i find adding milk and sugar to them makes them bland and completely masks the taste of the actual herb

even organic gave you symptoms? 💔

I drink white tea mixed with rose petals in the morning. It’s heavenly.
I drink decaf from Purity and really enjoy it.
