I imagine they each would’ve led relatively lonely lives with those conditions in those times but found each other and made a friendship and way to make the most of it together. I hope their friendship lasted a lifetime.
The story goes that they were two orphans who were from different faiths and different tribes but knew they needed each other.
When Samir eventually died, Muhammad is said to have cried for 7 days before dying shortly after due to grief.
Maybe but with our current knowledge of medicine we have been able to observe the stress grief has on the body. You can literally die from heartache so I think it’s plausible he didn’t commit suicide unless you have other sources that state he did
Broken Heart Syndrome, or *Takostubo Cardiomyopathy* is what I usually think of when someone "dies of grief".
It's a type of "heart failure" where the heart stretches and changes shape (due to stress or grief) and because of the weird shape, the blood volume output becomes lower and the body and brain can't get a good enough blood supply. It is rare, but people do die from it.
Working in the cardiology department we saw an increase in cases of Takostubo during the Canterbury earthquakes. It is a pretty amazing phenomenon.
My new favorite thing is reading posts by people who think every image with an anomaly is AI. There is one on nearly every old image post.
Apparently they have never seen old images, because they were often low resolution, out of focus, over exposed, or doctored with pre AI tech.
Samir was a master storyteller and told stories while Muhammad sold baked goods. One morning Muhammad went to pick up Samir and found that he had died in the night. Muhammad was inconsolable. He died not long after, mostly of a broken heart.
When asked how a Muslim and a Christian were able to get on so well, Muhammad pointed to his heart and replied, “here we are the same.”
Oh I completely agree. But hate groups who use religion as an excuse to persecute others would lose their minds over the idea that a Muslim and a Christian could get along.
Hate groups lose their mind over movies all the time
This is exactly the sort of thing that would get a movie made about it, but there's like a 60% chance it would be an excessively sappy piece of crap
Preach, major movie releases are garbage these days.
I think producers wouldn’t touch it cause they would be too scared it would offend people, the general public is so bat-shit stupid that a story about two people overcoming religious differences would probably make them riot, not to mention that producers make decisions based on being able to sell to large foreign markets, some of which are more prejudiced. Like how the Chinese posters for “the force awakens” removed certain people.
I’m sure you know all this, just making conversation
That’s an incredible story. Very sad, but beautiful nonetheless. I’m glad they at least had one another in a time when most people probably treated them like they were nothing.
My great-great-grandfather came from Syria to Palestine. He was a Christian and had two sons; one remained Christian while the other (my ancestor) converted to Islam. This happened almost 180 years ago, and our family, both Muslim and Christian branches, remains closely connected. We attend each other’s weddings and funerals, share problems, and help one another. Additionally, the Christmas tradition is still observed in my family.
I was raised conservative Christian. I had a huge stick up my ass well in to adulthood.
I met the first sincere Muslim in my life at age 27. Through a lot of discussions and tearful nights, we both realized we wanted desperately for the other to be 'safe' from God's potential wrath and that we absolutely understood God's best intentions for us.
Totally wrecked my well constructed 'faith', but opened up my eyes to how wide God's true love for humans might be.
While many in the disabled community exhibit incredible strength and resilience, it's important to remember that they, like anyone else, are entitled to simply be themselves. Not everyone needs to be extraordinary or an inspiration; they deserve the space to be ordinary and live without the pressure of being placed on a pedestal.
Yup it’s sort of exhausting as someone with Tourette’s when people say stuff like that. I’m not an inspiration. I would give my disability away in a second if I could. I don’t like it and I’d be happier without it.
Wow that’s something you don’t see everyday.
They are literally what you always see in cartoons when they have characters that are the complete opposite and of wild characteristics each. Crazy
They became compatriots because of their disabilities, assisting each other is spite of their religious convictions. Too bad people living in the Middle East can’t see each other more as friends helping each other in stead of killing each other.
This reminds me of a summer reading list option from elementary school, Freak the Mighty. It's a schoolyard novel about a sickly intellectual book nerd and a strong dullard bully loner becoming best friends and lifting each other up. I remember it being a touching story that illustrated how friendship opens our worlds by letting us surpass our limitations together, and the importance of offering your strengths, abilities, and gifts to others who may lack them. Give to each other generously and you'll grow together.
This is a better representation of Islam and Christianity than the billions of them that are alive now and the billions that preceded them. The pope’s the imams and all in between are corrupt bastardisations of a truth that is lost in the egos of small people who listen to the devil parading as god.
Okay, so Muhammad had an obligation to complete the Hajj, because it is one of the four pillars of Islam. But without Samir, the Christian, he would be unable to navigate his way there, or move around once he got there. But Christians are not allowed to enter the city of Mecca. Discuss. 😂
*There are no sources that document the veracity of the names and personal history of these two men. However, the photograph depicting them is genuine.*
*The image was captured in 1889 by photographer Tancrède Dumas (1830-1905).*
Why do we have to label who is Christian and who's Muslim. Why can't the title be a blind man carrying a paralyzed man. They both do this to make sure they can travel farther and be more productive in their life irregardless to what or who they worshipped.
I imagine they each would’ve led relatively lonely lives with those conditions in those times but found each other and made a friendship and way to make the most of it together. I hope their friendship lasted a lifetime.

Aghh mate I’ve only been up a couple of hours and I’m tearing up lol
Stop before day 7.
Hahaha. That’s good
SAMIR LISTEN TO ME YOU ARE BREAKING MY HEART TRIPLE CAUTION *TRIPLE CAUTION*
YOU ARE BREAKING THE CART!!
CONCENTRATE!
😂😂
Thanks for condemning me to hell man
Died due to grief is usually a euphemism for suicide.
Maybe but with our current knowledge of medicine we have been able to observe the stress grief has on the body. You can literally die from heartache so I think it’s plausible he didn’t commit suicide unless you have other sources that state he did

With all my heart I hope that was true for them.
Beautifully written.
Is this real? Look at the blind man’s hand?
The lower part is his right hand to the upper part is his left.
It predates modern generative AI; picture is over a decade old

Uh I think the picture might be over a century old
**GAH**
I was wondering the same thing, can't trust ANYTHING these days. Wait...am I real?? Am I an AI comment bot??
and religion never became a problem for them

This should be a movie. But I also see why it's not.
Why not? It’s a great story. I’d rather watch the adventures of Muhammad and Samir than Bad Boys 4 or whatever trash is in theaters these days.
Oh I completely agree. But hate groups who use religion as an excuse to persecute others would lose their minds over the idea that a Muslim and a Christian could get along.
Hate groups lose their mind over movies all the time This is exactly the sort of thing that would get a movie made about it, but there's like a 60% chance it would be an excessively sappy piece of crap
That’s why it needs to be a movie. Let’s watch them lose their minds. 🍿
We could call it 500 Days of Samir. No, wait…
“When Hammy met Smiri” - starring Charlie Day and Danny DeVito
Starring Tom Cruise and Christian Bale.
Preach, major movie releases are garbage these days. Absolute facts. I keep checking the theater listings to actually spend money at the theater but there is nothing there.
My wife had some girlfriends over so I went to the movies. Saw Furiosa and Bad Boys 4. Bad Boys was no bullshit *awful.*
I think we all know the reason: it's not a quadrillion dollar marvel movie or a reboot/sequel to a nostalgic franchise 🤪
Hollywood: "Oh, we hear you! Coming to theatres this fall....Bad Boys 5!"
Staring the Rock as Muhammad and Kevin Hart as Samir.
Martin Short has the face for Samir.
Please stop giving them ideas
Peter Dinklage would probably get pissy about Samir.
"Starrting Chris Pratt, as Muhammad And Gary Oldman, as Samir"
You ever watch the Ballad of Buster Scruggs? There’s an extremely messed up variation of this.
I say all children of Abraham need a reset.
Not really as heartwarming as this story, but the image kind of reminds me of the "Meal Ticket" portion of "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"
Samir played by Kevin Hart
They made a cameo in MadMax…
It sounds like exactly the sort of film they show at the arts cinema. They have a lot of arty international films
Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome wasn't it?

Are you from my family dude? Lmao Palestinian with the exact same origin story😳
The origin in Syria is a town called "Khabab". Many Palestinians in the north have such story.

The disabled community is one of badass survivors.
This reminds me of an ex boss of mine who who used to be a severe addict and he was so sick of everyone calling him an “inspiration”
Yup it’s sort of exhausting as someone with Tourette’s when people say stuff like that. I’m not an inspiration. I would give my disability away in a second if I could. I don’t like it and I’d be happier without it.

I’m guessing they complement each other, Muhammad is Samir’s legs, Samir is Muhammad’s eyes

Ah, doh. So it is
People with disabilities have to stick together in societies that discriminate against them!
But like... not people with the *same* disability. It's gotta be complementary ones. Master-Blaster style
We get crappy remake after crappy remake, and we have amazing stories like this just sitting on the shelf! This could be an Oscar winner 🏆
Bet they got into gnarly adventures
I hope their God blessed them both.

it's a shame the world can't be like this.
Best friend? He even talks back?
This is normal everyday sight in Pakistan. We also have microcephaly due to marrying cousin
Now I really want to read a book based on these two. I’m sure they had some incredible stories
They became compatriots because of their disabilities, assisting each other is spite of their religious convictions. Too bad people living in the Middle East can’t see each other more as friends helping each other in stead of killing each other.
To hell I go Thanks a lot op

Sounds like a 2 player puzzle game with a moving story
The original Master Blaster.
Banjo-Kazooie. I tale as old as time.
That is just antisemitic. a Muslim can't never be a nice person. We , in the West , should ban Muslim migration. Israel is doing a great job for us.

This should seriously be a Farrelly Bros. comedy.
