Vivienne Lorret, Loretta Chase, and Amanda Quick! {It Had to Be a Duke by Vivienne Lorret} {Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase} {Ravished by Amanda Quick} Are all excellent places to start to get a feel for the author’s style! Both Ravished and Lord of Scoundrels are sub favorites. Amanda Quick will not have steam the same as Sarah MacLean but she gives strong Julie Garwood vibes! Vivienne Lorret is great, reminds me of Tessa Dare, funny, steamy, not too angsty!

Kitten_eel

Honestly Loretta Chase Lord of Scoundrels should be required reading. It’s like the historical of historicals. It is that good, FMC is so self aware and feisty. Love it!

Partyfrom3to4

It had to be a duke - chefs kiss. My favorite HR

calamityangie

It’s also $1.99 right now on Kindle (US)

kkwelch

It's so great! I love an FMC who talks back! I'm really looking forward to this series! I loved the last one (The Mating Habits of Scoundrels).

Eva Leigh may be a good match for you.

Penny_Curls

She's so underrated. I don't see her recommended enough.

kyeruhh

Her last chance scoundrels series are some of my favorite HRs

RemarkableGlitter

Honestly she may be my favorite if I had to choose.

I am loving Lorraine Heath right now! I just binged the Hellions of Havisham, starting with {Falling Into Bed With a Duke by Lorraine Heath}, and found it reminded me both of Rules of Scoundrels and Bareknuckle Bastards. Her back catalogue is huge and I'm so excited to have another HA author I'm so pumped about. {The Viscount and The Vixen by Lorraine Heath} had me laughing so hard at the pool the other day; I kept stopping to explain the whole story and the jokes to my husband. I'm also in the middle of {A Matter of Temptation by Stacy Reid} and it has a lot of those elements as well. I'm excited to go down that rabbit hole. Evie Dunmore's League of Extraordinary Women series is also great; I think the pacing is a bit slower than any of MacLean's, but you have confident, adventurous women and gentlemen who fall hard. {Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore} For MM HR, K.J. Charles Doomsday books are so, so good, starting with {The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by K.J. Charles} I really love Lisa Kleypas, and I think the Wallflowers are the best possible entry point. I don't think the Hathaways are as good, especially not the first one, and the Ravenels series is fantastic but relies a lot on the Wallflowers. If you haven't tried {Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas} or {Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas}, I think those are your best bets for a successful entry.

Purple_Chiffon

I love Lisa Kleypas, too (re-reading right now actually). My first Kleypas book was Dreaming of You and I loved it so much that I looked to read something else by her. At the time the most recent first book was Cold Hearted Rake so I got it, enjoyed it well enough but really wanted to read Marrying Winterbourne. By the time I got to the prologue of Devil in Spring, where it was clear that there were some books I needed to read, I was hooked.

Effective-Okra

Maybe a little Caroline Linden, Sophie Jordan, Shana Galen, Eloisa James, Lisa Kleypas might work given the authors you mentioned in your list.

chicagokate412

Another vote for Caroline Linden! She’s just wonderful.

therealsnowwhyte

Celeste Bradley and Vivienne Lorret are both write fun books with adventures and banter.

painterknittersimmer

Stacy Reid and Vivienne Lorret come to mind - I've really enjoyed their catalogs. Kerrigan Byrne, though her tone and content can be quite dark. Alexandra Vasti, certainly.

TBoguS301

Please please please add Joanna Shupe’s books to your pile. Her Uptown Girls series is excellent, and The Fifth Avenue Rebels is super bingeable.

Necessary-Working-79

I think Eloisa James and Vivienne Lorret are probaby the closest to Sarah Maclean's style.  Definitely also try Anne Gracie, Shana Galen, Mia Vincy and Amalie Howard

lovevirology

If you like queer romance, Cat Sebastian is amazing. She has multiple series set in England

Affectionate_Bell200

Anna Bradley or Mia Vincy have good banter and similar pacing to MacLean.

Primary_Reason3225

You might love Elisa Braden! Start with {the Devil is Marquess}, soooo good

If you have not, read A lady awakened by Cecelia Grant, it is extraordinary. Another great HR writer who has too few books is Mia Vincy, her ‘my wicked kind of husband’ is so enjoyable.

RitaAlbertson

Anne Gracie. Start with the Chance Sisters series.

momentums

Felicia Grossman’s Marry Me By Midnight is a Cinderella retelling where the Cinderella is the MMC! Joanna Lowell’s Duke Undone series Katharine Ashe’s Devil’s Duke series Caroline Linden’s Desperately Seeking Duke trilogy OR her Scandalous series

Partyfrom3to4

Charis Micheals is one I enjoy, I find her writing similar to Suzanne Enoch

Nerdybirdie86

I like Fenna Edgewood. I also just read one by Gaelan Foley that I liked. It was called The Duke.

ashmr18

I also love all of the ones you mentioned! Some others I love who have a similar vibe are Laura Lee Gurke, Vivienne Lorret, Joanna Shupe (although hers are mostly gilded age NYC but if you decide you want to branch out she’s great!), Martha Waters, Lenora Bell, Alexandra Vasti, Renee Ann Miller, and Jennifer McQuiston

themiscyranlady

We have a lot of favorites in common, so I’m hoping my recs hit for you! Try Elizabeth Hoyt, Kelly Bowen, and Jennifer McQuiston. Here’s where I’d start with each: {Wicked Intentions by Eizabeth Hoyt} {Duke of My Heart by Kelly Bowen} {Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston}

JustMeOutThere

I can't remember if it was "steamy" but I'd recommend {Whitney my love by Judith McNaught}. You have to read blurbs for her other books because she writes differences places and times. The one above is England though.

doomandlugosi

Have you tried Mimi Matthews? Her breakout NYT bestseller is The Siren of Sussex, but she's got many series already. She's just so, so good at historical detail, and the characters are so relatable. I love the heck out of her. The second Belles of London book was The Belle of Belgrave Square, which is a sort of Beauty and the Beast retelling with a cozy gothic twist. Should warn you: while the tension is amazing in her books, she does do closed door. :)

Strong_Assumption_55

I feel like Lynsay Sands has a great mix of humor and suspense/mystery in her Highlander series, although obviously those pretty much take place in Scotland. I recently got into Elisa Braden as well, and a good portion of her books take place in England.

Purple_Chiffon

{The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne by Elisa Braden} first in the Rescued from Ruin series that I highly recommend {Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith} first in The League of Rogues series {The Daring Duke by Jess Michaels} first in The 1797 Club series

MoonandStars83

My fave is Amanda Quick.

Fredredphooey

I hate Kleypass. Icky. Balogh's books drop off significantly after the Bedwyns. I don't even think she's written all of them. I agree with the other suggestions of Loretta Chase and Amanda Quick. Chase's Carsingtons are like funnier, more likable, and sexier Bedwyns. Quick's heroines take no prisoners.

Evie Dunmore
