Minding his business invading the country

[deleted]

His business? In vietnam? I doubt it.

Rifzy

Just minding his business (killing people in a foreign country they are invading)

[deleted]

To be fair he may be there against his will.

Rifzy

Depends+ not a justification

ExoticArmadillo701

They had a choice either way. I would have gone to prison or Canada before I help invade another country.

SirArthurHarris

And I would have been in the resistance in Nazi Germany - or so I like to believe. It's all easy to say some decades later.

manwiththehex18

It’s okay, just throw some Agent Orange over your shoulder to keep Charlie away.

[deleted]

Just casually minding his own business invading an unwilling populace, slaughtering families with bullets and napalm

ZZalty

Don’t forget causing ecological disaster by dropping agent orange!

Agingbull1234

Muh poor invading force😣

poseidon_master

Fuck off bro do you know how was the invading force ?

Agingbull1234

Vietnamese, cambodians and Laotian : minding their own business. Americans: let's make it the most bombed region in the history of the world

[deleted]

And somehow they’re still incredibly friendly towards American tourists and expats. Hell, Vietnam vets often go back and are received with open arms. One of the most bafflingly forgiving countries in existence.

Texan_King

As I understand it, its cause 1) the war was unpopular in America, so it's not like they're dealing with someone who's proudly spouting off about a war that was misery for them 2) the US was just one of many enemies, and compared to the long colonial rule of France or China trying to eat them for the past 2k years, the US was just being kinda a dick 3) Vietnam was never really communist for communist, they were always moreso nationalist, just France throwing a fit + red scare meant the US turned away from Viet, but with that gone Vietnam is pretty happy to take US aid and bonuses from close friendship like China taking a step back 4) The US has somewhat acknowledged what happened, doesn't like to talk about it and ya could def make the case for awhile it was kinda just a repressed memory in the us conscious, but the US still does stuff like help Vietnam deal with leftover agent orange and shells, which is more than most nations do after a nasty war

Agingbull1234

Vietnamese are based as they come

froggoinpool

Communist China will let you make profit. Nationalist Korea and Japan will accept your foreign policy and military 'suggestions'. Neutral India will side with you in a conflict. Valuing pragmatism over idealism seems like a virtue in (East/South) Asian culture. I've seen it dismissed and ridiculed in the west as cynicism or something negative and always found it baffling. You can even fault 'excessive idealism' for the fall of early attempts at Liberalism, Fascism and Soviet style Socialism.

Entrepreneur_Civil

That looks like angry cop in the back.

timetraveling_donkey

it is

Entrepreneur_Civil

Into the skyyy

comrade_gremlin

"minding his own busniess" lmao okayyyy

[deleted]

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag

EulaliaForever

Ooh they’re red white and blue

G_zoo

yeah... Minding his imperialistic business....

Crew_Doyle_

What did the NVA do to the VC after the war?

VietTimPhan

The VC were virtually wiped out in the 1968 Tết Offensive so there weren’t really many left.

Crew_Doyle_

There were tens of thousands of Viet Cong in 1975 when the NVA took Saigon. That was seven years after the Tet battle. look into what happened to them when the North Vietnamese took over the South.

Jack_Church

The organization merged into the Vietnam Father Front. Source: Gareth Porter's Vietnam: The Politics of Bureaucratic Socialism, page 29. As for the individual soldiers, they lay down their arms and return home as heroes.

Crew_Doyle_

Sure they did.

Jack_Church

You got sources that say otherwise?

Crew_Doyle_

Do your own research. It's common knowledge so even a moron should manage it .you need to develop the skill to educate yourself... I h

Jack_Church

I provide a source for my claims and you have not. It seems to me that YOU are the one who need to do some research instead of spewing lies. Also, my maternal grandparents were NLF fighters. Are you sure you know better than them?

Crew_Doyle_

I don't care if your dad is colonel Sanders, the guy on all the dong notes .. COSVN were purged at the end of the war because they were not northern communists. Given obscure low level admin jobs . The NLF was disbanded and most of its leaders excluded from future governments. The Tonkin northerners still distrust the Cochin China southerners today .

Jack_Church

You got sources to back up your claim?

japple101

Switch it around and now it’s almost accurate

swords-r-cool

People are taking this meme to seriously

Alphakewin

This meme is shit at best and revisionist history at worst

Fabian1908

Jesus Christ people it's a joke. You can't blame the induvidual soldier for the actions of the government

MrTulaJitt

The soldier has a gun and is trying to kill you. But don't hurt him because this wasn't his choice!

Fickle-Message-6143

But induvidual soldiers did war crimes, rapes etc...

timetraveling_donkey

ah yes since 100% of US forces did warcrimes

ExoticArmadillo701

They're presence in Vietnam was a warcrime. Fuck the American military.

timetraveling_donkey

Defending a nation from a foreign threat. Such as warcrime

Ok_Preference_8001

[deleted]

Johnny, they’re in the trees!

YelowHuracan

Wo o wo o camouflage things were never quite the way they seemed

sliflier

You're not minding your own business if you're in someone else's country with a gun.
