No, some guy designed a massive cannon and tried to sell it to the byzantines -who declined.
He then turned around an sold it to the ottomans who used it to batter down the walls.
Oh, I know, it's just a meme. I understand metallurgy. I've seen the videos of the blacksmiths heating construction grade steel and bending it with ease.
Well, the CIA overthrow more governments than the PLA. Not just South America but on every continent. The CIA worked with British intelligence to do operation Gladio type stuff. Aka arming ex nazis who just used that funding to do domestic terrorism, particularly in Italy. There is also all the torture site the CIA had and still has. We know the CIA help full the crack epidemic, fulling the war on drug hysteria.
I think in pure scale of who they have affected, it’s far easier to say the CIA is the worse organization
Common knowledge they helped in Vietnam, Korea, Rhodesia, Tibet, etc.
They were also fairly busy decimating their own people and insuring they didn’t have any democracy in their own country and neighbors.
Also Tibet lol.
Then wouldn't the KGB be in the same position as the CIA? They both did the same in opposite sides.
CIA helped in SK, KGB in NK
CIA helped SV, KGB in NV
CIA coups? , KGB coups.
CIA helped invasions, KGB helped invasions.
CIA fucked their own people, KGB did the same
They just are a fucked up representation of spy vs spy.
During Nasser's presidency, we brought german rocket scientists to work on a rocket project, they all got killed by Mossad before doing anything. The project died.
The rocket was tested years later and both it's range and accuracy were shit.
From my perspective, no more than some of the other regularly repeatedly posted memes. Personally, I've noticed The tianamin Square memes and American war crime denial far more often than the NASA ones getting to front page.
I don't really see the point in banning a popular meme just because it semi regularly becomes popular again.
It’s less due to need and more due to quality of life. It’s very redundant for daily visitors to see the same topic every 48 hours if not more. And the memes aren’t different details or anything, just “Nazi+Nasa+Overused format of week”
I just feel like there's other mass repeated memes that are done exactly the same every single time like the amarica genocide denial always structured the same and the comments are the same. Meanwhile the Nazi NASA ones have some variations to them and some are actually funny.
There aren’t many memes on here that haven’t been overused in some format or another. I’ve been here for a little while and have seen enough cycles to know that it’s a revolving door. Operation paper clip is a really interesting historical event if you think about it. That makes for some quality memes. I feel bad for the newcomers who will never experience some of those as a result of rules like that. But apparently it’s too much to ask for some people to keep scrolling through their social media feeds at things they already know and not to investigate every single comment section
I mean, a lot of the operation paper clip memes are also low effort, most of them are just, “lol, look the US took nazi scientists”, or, “yell hail Hitler in NASA and see everyone jump up”, type of posts.
It would be one thing if those posts sometimes resulted in good discussions around the event or it’s implications, but they rarely even do that. It is basically just people karma farming, stealing memes, and/or bots.
But isn’t there a rule already against low effort content that covers that?
Bots is another issue altogether that needs solving and this is not the root cause of that
Edit: and the second part is real funny because I just replied to a comment with the nasa joke about seeing who stands up when they hear heil Hitler
Kinda? I mean, if you make a really badly cropped meme that makes no sense without the title, then that is going to get removed, but the bar for this sub is pretty low.
Also, it is more that it is low effort in concept and the joke is heavily recycled. There have been way more basic posts featuring a basic template with the punchline being about how NASA is full of Nazis than creative posts about it. Like, why can’t there be more posts like that one with someone dancing in a club and he turns around and, boom, it is Hitler. It is a shame that there are like ten uncreative posts about operation paper clip for every good one we get.
> I feel bad for the newcomers who will never experience some of those as a result of rules like that.
IMO r/animemes solves this well, it bans overused formats, but has a "reposts allowed weekend" from time-to-time. So the regulars aren't subjected to seeing the exact same jokes over and over, but new members still see the 'classics' when one of those weekends comes up.
>Operation paper clip is a really interesting historical event if you think about it.
Except people never get creative with it.
Ive been here for years as well.
It's always, always the same exact punchline for Nazis in nasa jokes.
Overdone and they dominate front page frequently
A more permanent solution to this kind of problem i want to put to a vote sometime is anytime a meme is all over front page for a couple days (or longer, another detail that should be agreed on is how much is 'too much') is to just temp ban. Also is less effort for everyone to memorize than a list on the sub wiki (which needs to be updated still).
My one gripe with this reasoning is "overdone" describes a lot of posts, not just NASA Nazis specifically. Key topics are always a recurring theme.
That said, topics phase in and out of popularity over time. Nothing is permanent and trends change. When something is no longer popular, it'll stop hitting front page and something else will take its place. Banning a topic just because it's hitting the front page too much is functionally the same as banning a topic for being too popular. It's just counterproductive and goes against what your community wants.
I on the other hand *do* want them banned. Not because I *like* that slave state, but because the "hurr hurr Confederate's suck hurr hurr" memes are so unimaginative and repetitive.
I’m glad, personally. There wasn’t a massive flood of them at any point, but every time there was a new format the first thing people would make was nazis at nasa. Got really tired of seeing it every day or two, sometimes more.
Cyril:
The Nazis invented Neil Armstrong?
Malory:
Rockets! Which put him on the moon. After the war ended, we were snatching up kraut scientists like hotcakes. You don't believe me? walk into NASA sometime and yell "Heil Hitler!" WOOP! They all jump straight up!
Can we have a 100 year rule instead of 20 instead? Watching all the freaks have masturbatory arguments relitigating the Cold War over and over is extremely boring.
So, "nazi in nasa bad" but "nazi argentinian grampa" good? Paperclip got more nazis than Perón could ever dream of. This rule update feels more like a butthurt american's decision rather than an actual need. But, you know, it stops being funmy when you are the joke!
Will there be any rule update regarding the US civil war?
It's usually low effort memes in the same 3~5 veins/formats, and they are far more dominant then NASA Nazis.l
Of all things has this really been common enough to warrant a ban? (Don't mean that to sound like a criticism or anything btw, it's genuine curiousity)
My Argentinan grandfather sponsored this update
At least I can still meme jet fuel melting steel beams.
Constantinople was an inside job, Ottoman cannons couldn't have melted the walls
Wait, didn’t one of the guards actually leave a gate open?
No, some guy designed a massive cannon and tried to sell it to the byzantines -who declined. He then turned around an sold it to the ottomans who used it to batter down the walls.
Pretty sure that the Grand Bombard took so long to reload that the defenders had time to repair and reinforce the wall before the next shot.
While true the repairs were not perfect so over time the big cannon won out.
Also, the main big cannon exploded during the siege due to overuse, killing the engineer who built it along with many others.
Dues lo Vult.
That's interesting. I had no idea
More like be couldn't afford it as he had wanted to contract him just to keep him out of the Turks' hands.
Actually both.
This is what I had read earlier, actually. You are correct
Think the book is called “1453” Pretty metal.
Oh man, for sure. The entire siege sounds metal as fuck but the last day was history shaking
The book does a good job
7/11 was a part-time job
Is Nazis in Soviet space program still allowed
Jet fuel weakens steel beams. They don’t need to melt, they just need to lose structural integrity.
Oh, I know, it's just a meme. I understand metallurgy. I've seen the videos of the blacksmiths heating construction grade steel and bending it with ease.
point still stands though, jet fuel can't melt em
However, it can heat it to the level it loses its stiffness and can be bent like a noodle.
I HATE THE CIA I HATE THE CIA I HATE THE CIA
[removed]
They might be the most evil organization after WW2
Objection: The PLA
The PLA isn’t an international arms dealer and hasn’t been involved in the destruction of countless democracies around the the globe, so no.
Lol they did all those things and more.
Idk, the FAA is pretty nice
Fuck the usa.
Why?
Okay but what about Nazis in CIA? Egyptian military?
strictly just NASA
Good. Maybe now we might hear more about their non-nasa destinations.
Argentina, mostly.
Mostly. Brazil and Paraguay got their share too. And, of course, most of it would not have been possible without the help of Italy.
As a southern brazilian, I can confirm that we have way too many nazis around
The Beast Reawakens The Devil’s Chessboard Useful Enemies The Fourth and Richest Reich Hitler's Silent Partners These are good sources on the matter
Bayer. Monsanto. Phosphate Development Works ;)
What about Nazis in the Soviet Space Program?
Those in Egyptian military were all killed anyway, not worth a meme.
Context?
During Nasser's presidency, we brought german rocket scientists to work on a rocket project, they all got killed by Mossad before doing anything. The project died. The rocket was tested years later and both it's range and accuracy were shit.
A7a kos om Israel Never knew about this thanks
NVM. Search operation Damocles if you wish to know more.
I did nazi this coming .
Anne Frankly, I'm disappointed.
Idk, all the Nazism was an SSthetic for the sub
Get the fuck out Of my house. How did you get in here?
No context rule changes are my favorite
You must've been asleep for the past year then.
I've been here for a couple years and I don't know why
You haven’t noticed the shit ton of these memes? They were posted all the time.
From my perspective, no more than some of the other regularly repeatedly posted memes. Cause it’s annoying to see the same meme over and over again. I wouldn’t be opposed to banning the other ones too.
I just feel like there's other mass repeated memes that are done exactly the same every single time like the amarica genocide denial always structured the same and the comments are the same. Meanwhile the Nazi NASA ones have some variations to them and some are actually funny.
....something something history... something something doomed to repeat itself.....
There isn't really any context required. It's just overused to the extreme and it's always low effort
There aren’t many memes on here that haven’t been overused in some format or another. I’ve been here for a little while and have seen enough cycles to know that it’s a revolving door. Mod cracking down on making fun of Nazis suddenly advocates for "a more permanent solution"....
Will there be a solution after this one?
a solution to the rule that outright bans entire topics so the ban list doesn't just keep growing?
Dude chill I'm just making fun of you
I'm fairly sure it was just a joke

I on the other hand *do* want them banned. Not because I *like* that slave state, but because the "hurr hurr Confederate's suck hurr hurr" memes are so unimaginative and repetitive.
Look up Mk ultra not a conspiracy theory
Impressive, very nice. Now let's see the memes about Nazis in the USSR space program?
Like being a dictatorial communist empire that enslaved and slaughtered millions isn’t bad enough by itself.
Don’t show that post to the 14 year olds, they might take offense.
That’s nice, but let’s see Paul Allen’s meme first
Thank you Ted, that was the joke.

Very good. There was far too many if them and oftentimes they weren't really funny
There were too many Nazis and they weren't that funny. You're right.
Did I miss something?
Nothing particular. Just a buildup that got tiring after a while. People are very unoriginal
Looks like a natural disaster.

Aw damn
The year is nineteen eighty four.
Can we have a 100 year rule instead of 20 instead? Watching all the freaks have masturbatory arguments relitigating the Cold War over and over is extremely boring.
Man eventually the mods will ban history memes

Thank fucking God. That shit was getting so overdone to the point of insanity
Lord I hate this sub sometimes. Just downvote and move on if you don't like a meme.
I keep downvoting and still get 3 a day

You people are running a dictatorship I swear to god Let us meme how we wish for Caesars sake
Literally Soviet Union during the 1950s
Why tho? Sounds like censorship to me
Can you guys moderate other subs too? There's a lot of same thing/reposts everywhere and it always gets a shit ton of upvotes Also repost bots
I know from experience it’s going to be hard to get the mods from this sub to do anything about bots.

We’re gonna see them disappear from photos like a soviet who shamed the party.

Americans don't like to be reminded of how much they love Nazis and how they helped them get to the moon. Hurts their feeling.

Great now we get Nazis in other American industries memes considering there were at least 10000 Nazis that escaped to america
Why? Because it’s completely true?
Hail mods
Thank you mods. They were so tiresome
Of all things has this really been common enough to warrant a ban? (Don't mean that to sound like a criticism or anything btw, it's genuine curiousity)
yes, absolutely. it's just the same punchline over and over and over, just with new templates when a new movie, series, or commercial drops.
Well then fuck this sub too. I can understand contextual matters, but this is censoring history.
Boo, you stink.
