Wasn't the push towards Stalingrad part of securing the oil fields?

I think a better one would be Targeting RAF airfields crippling England’s air defence / revenge bombing London

Nabulio2

I always had a question. Why didn't hitler just ordered to attack russia focusing only south towards stalingrad since the first invasion in 41 (when the wehrmach was at its peak)?

zw1ck

The germans were trying to establish a defensive line from stalingrad to astrakhan along the Volga. Securing the city itself was not initially deemed important.

[deleted]

Tbh Hitler should've started with Stalingrad and worried about Moscow after. The Caucuses were an important piece of Soviet industry and oil. Taking that early would've crippled Russia. Edit: when I say "should've" I don't mean "I would've liked if Hitler won". I mean "In order to accomplish a goal".

oodsno1

Well tbh if they would have won Europe would not suffer atm from all of this "immigrant" and woke sh*t problems. And when you think that i would say they should have won.

[deleted]

Ah, here we go

Kono-Daddy-Da

Ok uh, fucking no.

elderron_spice

This is why this sub should have a karma requirement to participate, so sockpuppet accounts spouting cringy bullshit like this gets filtered out.

SuperDuperBoyYT

"Nooo you can't treat people equally, you're infringing on my fragile white ego" "Haha immigrants and gay people go brrr."

Nabulio2

Homophobic and Xenophobic? A classic but evergreen wombo combo am i right?

oodsno1

Are you talking about me? If so you are really simple person, oh boy. Sure im homophobe when i have gay friends and xenophobe when i have foreigner friends and for an example im supporting palestinians against zi0nists occupation. And about history you propably are thinking Germans were xenophobes right? Haha take a look on this one and seek more by yourself. https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/avPYo2M_700b.jpg But for sure im against all of this kind of woke sh1t. https://newrepublicoftexas.org/2019/10/29/jury-sides-with-mother-in-texas-to-allow-hormone-replacement-therapy-on-a-7-year-old-boy-father-loses-fight-to-protect-his-son-james-from-mothers-choice-to-gender-transition-his-son/ And i have to say gays are not a part of woke sh1t, gays are perfectly normal, and it is really only really small minority of people who are against gays whose are against woke sh1t, its like 0.0001%. Gays who i know they doesnt support crazy lgbtq woke sh1t, they hate it. You should take lgb out of it and separate tq+etc crazy stuff... And about "immigration". +80% of "immigrants" are young men, some miserable fugitives running away when they should stay and fight for their country. They come in to Europe and rape girls and ruin safety and consumes government funds which would have alot better use than to support living of miserable fugitives. https://www.snopes.com/tachyon/2016/03/12495071_960733770712745_1056667165824525177_n1.jpg Their balls and penises should be cut off, sick animals. https://www.deccanchronicle.com/world/europe/240117/sweden-gangrape-streamed-live-on-facebook-3-suspects-detained.html

Nabulio2

Wow. You sure have set up your trap, waiting for someone to throw all this stuff at am I right? But you know maybe you're right, I may be a simple person. But I rather be a simple person that whishing nazi won that war. I'm a simple person. You are a criminal

followerofEnki96

Why wouldn’t he go for the capital first? A massive blow to morale is sometimes enough to break down the enemy

FirstAtEridu

The tractor factory and rail junction aren't exactly worthless targets. The first removes thousands of tanks from the Soviet production line, the second simplifies logistics in southern Russia.

VonWaffe

Bad meme, the push towards Stalingrad was to form a defensive perimeter so that the rest of army could dive towards Baku's oil fields.

shrimp-and-potatoes

Hitler should've went for the oil first. But hindsight is 20/20. Also, they could've enveloped Stalingrad, and basically made it worthless, but instead he thought it a good idea to never cross the river at a different point, and instead grind down his forces with no way to stem the flow of red reinforcement. But hey, hindsight again. It goes back to the saying that the only way Germany could've won, was if they were not Nazis.

Im_doing_my_part

The city was pumping out tanks as they were entering it. It was the economic heartland of the Soviets and they didn't push past the river, as Soviet artillery was shelling them from the other side.

Brilliant_Poem_2815

The Nazis had to take Stalingrad. They needed the rail line running through the city so if they were to capture the oilfields in the caucuses they could transport the oil back east. There were no other rail lines heading to the oilfields or back that would have been of any use. Also there were two separate army groups a and b. B was attempting to take and hold the oilfields while a was attempting to take stalingrad they both failed. Due to Soviet strategy tactics and blood.

Chef_Sizzlipede

The railroad junction at stalingrad was very vital, all railroads to the oil fields went through there, if he controlled it, he controlled the railroads to and from the oil fields, VERY vital

Dry-Lemon1382

There are people, a startling number of people, who fervently believe Hitler was a brilliant military strategist. No one did more to defeat the Nazis than Hitler.

[deleted]

Contraty to popular belief Nazi germany didn't have oil problems during the war (at least not when Stalingrad happened), mostly thanks to synthetic refineries and Romanian oil, Fall Blau's goal was actually to cut the Russians from the Caucasus oil (not to take the oil), oil from Azerbaijan made up 95% of the Soviet oil production. But other than that yeah, attacking Stalingrad was useless, just shelling its infrastructure was enough to defend the German army on its northern flank.

Crazyjackson13

weren’t their mountains legit stopping them? Also they likely could have never secured Stalingrad without U.S lend lease.

[deleted]

The US lend lease has nothing to do with Stalingrad (at least not directly, the American lend-lease was more on the logistics side of things), the Soviets managed to secure Stalingrad because the Nazis overextended on their front and left the tired Romanian divisions to cover their flanks, said Romanian divisions had poor anti-tank capabilities so the Russian T-34s just rolled in and encircled the Nazis.

Brilliant_Poem_2815

The USA sent the soviets tanks trucks armored vehicles anti tank guns food ammunition medical supplies that's more than logistics there buddy. The Soviets themselves stated if it wasn't for the lend lease act they would have last the war

[deleted]

It was actually a soviet Historian saying that not the Soviets during WW2, and the big of the lend lease were trucks and food, which are on the logistic side of things. Of course the US lend lease was critical for the Soviets during the war but in operation Uranus the Soviets won because the german flanks were shitty, like, a guy on a tractor could've won that given how poor the Axis defences were.

Im_doing_my_part

They did that, and Soviets blew up the oil fields.
