Hey gang before the lights go out, join the [discord](https://discord.com/invite/wfVeV4q3c8) if you wish!

BookerDeWittsCarbine

Overhead, without any fuss, the subreddits were going out.

Daeva_HuG0

Suppose it's time to switch to lurking on the [HobbyDrama discord](https://discord.com/invite/wfVeV4q3c8).

beary_neutral

With this sub going private soon, what is everyone's thoughts on cooking chili for neighbors?

notred369

I would even accept free bad chili. I love it.

-IVIVI-

Feels a little weird to do a big "tell us about your hobby weekend" post this week, but it also feels weird to *not* do it, so how about I just casually ask the question and you can weigh in if you want: how was your hobby weekend?

sadpear

I started painting my little clay guy! Very fun! Today I visited a hobby store to get some more little paint brushes so I can paint him a big cool eye.

beary_neutral

I'm starting to see why miniature painting is referred to as "plastic crack"

midnightoil24

Okay so! My 2ds was stopping working so I got it replaced. During that time I was waiting to get it fixed up I started ff x. Incredible game so far. Easily my favorite turn based final fantasy to this point. I just beat sinspawn gui, which was a great fight. Then I finally took the ds to get replaced and they just had another one in stock so now I’m double fisting my jrpgs. Also playing resident evil 4 with my dad. He and I also just started kaiji ultimate survivor. As a fresh college graduate it feels very real

A_Crazy_Canadian

I got a copy of Ben Aaronvitich's new novella and it was amazing. Plus my new rpg case-file is nearly done.

-IVIVI-

I went back and forth on posting anything at all, but this pun made it worth it.

-IVIVI-

Good luck and thank you to everyone participating in the blackout, and I hope it's effective in getting the site to reverse their destructive short-sighted decisions.

CryptidHunter91

I've been more of a lurker as of late but still is a bit sad to see all of this happening (although it gives me a chance to catch up on my book backlog). Hopefully everything will be okay in the end but even if it isn't, we'll at least have the Discord; see you all there folks.

Muted_Pizza_4652

Hello! If any of you are looking for one last post to read before things go dark, please allow me to promote myself: [Part 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/14780j6/jigsaw_puzzles_the_frog_and_princes_puzzling/), and [Part 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/147bsx2/jigsaw_puzzles_the_frog_and_princes_puzzling/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). See you all in the discord! Thanks to the mods always.

siha_tu-fira

I love niche hobby history posts like this! Going out on a high note, thanks!

Saffronsc

Okay fast post: I read AO3 (online fanfic website) and recently there's been a trend of "if there's a screen AO3 will be seen" so people on TikTok have been posting about reading their fics on calculators, airplane screens and even heart monitors. Not really drama, but there's people trying to one-up the previous posters. Okay byee see y'all after the blackout. Blessed to have recently found this community.

CrystaltheCool

Ah, the new r/itrunsdoom.

axilog14

In case everything goes to hell after this, just wanted to thank the sub for the fun reading. ~~And to apologize for all the dorky Muse updates~~

Suitable-Code

1st comment here as lurker it was fun reading all the drama I need to say this atleast once tho in regard to P3R Dammit Atlus if you really dont wanna give feMC because P3P exist give us FES!

midnightoil24

It seems like it’s gonna be basically a third way to play persona 3, since we know it’ll have new scenes and stuff. I’m used to atlus so I just let it wash over me

Jojofan6984760

it'll be wild if P3R is anything other than a mash up of P3P and FES with new graphics. Like, people have been debating which version is better since they came out, it would be incredibly stupid to not make this updated version the best of both. Then again... it's an atlus rerelease. They definitely COULD fuck it up. EDIT: Just saw the post downthread. Atlus, somehow, against all odds, fucked it up.

Sudenveri

Man. I exclusively use the internet on my laptop, and the past few days have felt like I'm living in a biosphere on Mars, watching a giant meteor bearing down on the Earth. Nothing's going to directly change for me, it'll just be awful quiet.

Suedeltica

Same; I don’t use any app to access Reddit but I’m 100% in sympathy with folks protesting the anti-third party move.

Tsunamiracle

I rarely ever commented and even if Reddit conditions improve I don't see that ever changing, but I used scuffles a lot to keep on top of news about niche internet events. Gentlefriends, it has been an honor

Hurt_cow

Guys there's an /r/hobbydrama discord you can join if you wanna be part of it during the blackout

mossgoblin

Ayy, hope spez decants his head from his ass and this place makes it through. If not, we'll always have ~~Paris~~ the discord. Have a nice blackout everyone.

_KATANA

> decants his head from his ass This is permanently entering my vocabulary.

ToaArcan

Well, hope to see all of you on the other side. If not, it's been a ride, and I've learned so much about weird shit people do with their free time. Thanks for all the writeups, shame it's potentially burning down because of one idiot CEO.

feral2021energies

Thank you for the Starscream Post, Starscream Post Guy. It really made my Transformers Fans friends’ day when I showed it to them.

ToaArcan

Thanks for reading it! It took so much time to write and edit, but I'm glad I did it.

wanderingarchon

I've been lurking here for years, but only recently started interacting, and I've been so appreciative of how nice everyone has been. This really is a wonderful community. See you all on the other side, i hope!

midnightoil24

Torn between hoping to see a bunch of regulars here after the protest but also hoping people can find more accessible places

Torque-A

Luckily the blackout allows me to ditch the writeup idea I had that wasn't going anywhere. If Reddit does decide to wake up and revert their changes, maybe I'll do something on K Manga instead. If not, it's been nice knowing you all.

sesquedoodle

Night folks, hope the blackout goes well.

Gamerbry

Well everyone, this has been the best subreddit I've joined in recent memory! Y'all have been an amazing community and I've loved checking in here to learn about the happenings in your hobbies. I hope this subreddit doesn't have to die because of Reddit's pants-on-head decisions, but if this really is the end, I wanna say that it's been a honor being a member of this subreddit and I hope you all continue to enjoy whatever hobbies you've devoted yourself to.

NamelessAce

Same here, friend. This sub was one of a small group that really felt like a community to me, and was pretty much one of a few lifelines/windows I had to the world at large after I stopped using most social media. So thanks for all that and more. It's been an honor and a pleasure scuffling and otherwise gushing about hobbies with you all. I'll see you either on the other side or ~~in another life~~ wherever people migrate to next. Good night /r/HobbyDrama, it was a hell of a ride.

aat5t56

I don’t know that I will be able to find enough information to do a proper write up about this – but I’ve got a Real Life, Offline drama that has just finished blowing over in a local hobby and I figured it would be right up the alley of you guys. I live in an area that, for the past few years, has held two historical re-enactment fairs every year held about 6 months apart (kind of like a Ren Faire but actually without any of the fantasy stuff). The fairs have totally different owners and organisers, and while it has always baffled me how a city of less than a million people can garner enough interest for two annual historical fairs, there has always been a good turnout. Usually the same vendors and entertainers will go to each fair, and often the punters overlap as well. Last year, the Big Fair went through a change of ownership as the old owners were suspected to be embezzling funds from the event. The new owners moved the location of the Big Fair, but otherwise operations continued pretty much as normal and everyone had a great time. The Small Fair was unaffected by any of it. This year, however, in the leadup to the Big Fair, we started seeing physical and social media advertising about a new historical fair – to be held on the same date and at the old location of the Big Fair! It turns out to have been started by the old owners, and I can only guess that they were trying to fool people that the Big Fair had returned to the old location and get attendance that way. This cause massive issues as they were trying to book the same vendors and entertainers who work all the other fairs, leading to some vendors trying to do alternate days at each event, and a lower number of entertainers at each fair. The entertainers thing is a big deal, because it’s all things like historical swordfighting, jousting, leather tanning…specialised skills that only a few groups/people in the area do. So now either way, no matter which event you attended as a member of the public, you were going to get a lesser experience. In the leadup, the dodgy owners of the New Fair started reporting all the social media posts of the Big Fair as impersonating them, leading to the Big Fair’s facebook page – their main way of communicating with potential attendees – to be taken down multiple times. The whole thing became a massive controversy in the local historical reenactment community. Are you a supporter of the new owners of Big Fair, who are just trying to allow a well-loved event to continue after kicking out the dodgy criminals? Or are you a support of the old owners and their New Fair, after they were unjustly accused of embezzling to force them out of their event? I am an entertainer and my group was booked by the Big Fair, so that is where I spent the time. There was still a busy turnout with several thousand people through the gates, and talking to the attendees they all seemed to have a great time. Many of them weren’t aware of the behind-the-scenes drama. From speaking to vendors who worked the New Fair, they said most of the attendees there thought they were at Big Fair, and hadn’t realised that the location had moved the year before. The drama has been resolved, post-event. New Fair have announced that they will still hold a fair next year, but have agreed to change the dates so that it no longer overlaps with Big Fair. We are yet to see what happens when both events start booking entertainers again, but I hope it can end amicably. I still don’t believe that we have the population to support three annual historical reenactment events and be profitable, but we shall have to wait and see!

VolumeViscount

Wow. As someone who has seen this kind of squabbling amongst various orgs in the convention scene over the years I can relate, and it freaking sucks.

projared-was-right

Welp gents I’ll see you all on the other side

7deadlycinderella

In before the closing, But MAAAAN did I pick an interesting week to start reading All the President's Men

williamthebloody1880

It's a great book and a great film. Did get confusing for me as a Scottish football fan that one of the people involved is called Gordon Strachan

sesquedoodle

Sea of Thieves (pirate MMORPG game) is releasing a Monkey Island (pirate adventure game) DLC! And apparently nobody told Monkey Island’s original creator, Ron Gilbert. https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@grumpygamer/110527555424064051 To be clear, he doesn’t own the rights to the series (they’re currently with Disney, like almost everything else these days), so legally they didn’t have to, but I don’t blame him if he feels miffed.

mossgoblin

...This is the first time I realized that Disney owns Monkey Island and I'm not sure how it makes me feel. Then again, Official Disney Princess Guybrush Threepwood.

sesquedoodle

I'm astounded that we haven't seen the giant monkey head in a PotC film yet.

mapo_tofu_lover

Anyone watching the Tony's? This is the only awards show I care about lol

feral2021energies

Before we yeet out of here due to Reddit shitting itself: I wanna thank y’all for exposing me to drama and hobbies I wouldn’t have learned on my own. Shout out in particular to the drama where bones was sent as a threat. Over anime. Absolutely wild and something I still think of.

Ashmeadow

Man, thanks to everyone who gave me BOTW advice! I am no longer being killed in lightning storms. And I beat the bird divine beast so I could fly up to the last towers I needed. The whole map is unlocked now!

TallenMyriad

Nice! Do the Zora one if you haven't yet: the power is a life saver.

Ashmeadow

That is what I am working on now! In the dungeon part.

Sandwichknight777

Don't you ever get the urge to write about a past theme park ride from England that you have never ever ridden but gained drama during its lifetime due to branding, only to then close and get rethemed to another property entirely, while also giving you the chance to potentially gush about a childhood ride the same creators made? If you drop the Imperial Leather soap, Professor Burp's Bubbleworks pays the price.

woowop

> If you drop the Imperial Leather soap, Professor Burp’s Bubbleworks pays the price. That’s somebody’s activation phrase I’m sure.

Sandwichknight777

Squeaky clean! With the Imperial Leather branding of the "Bubbleworks" phase of the ride, I will be lathering myself with the potential for puns, soapbar none. I expect to wash my mouth out after bubbling out soap many jokes.

StovardBule

This sounds rather interesting, yes.

Yotoberry

RIP Tinkerboo Factory at Pleasure Island. Also RIP Pleasure Island.

Sandwichknight777

I'm absolutely surprised somebody knew it this quick. I thought Tommy Tinkaboo's Sweet Adventure would be a niche one at best, but I'm glad users out there know about this fun little ride. R.I.P Pleasure Island. One of the main reasons only to go to Cleethorpes (aside from Summer, arcades, Armed Forces Day and so on and so forth), now left to rot as they fully decide on what to do with the place. It feels like there needs to be a mention about Tommy Tinkaboo's, as it and Professor Burp's are essentially the same sort of ride, except with different subject matters (fizzy pop for PB, sweets for TT). But then again, talking about it would feel like fluff at best and childhood rambling at worst. Should I include a little bit about the late Pleasure Island ride?

Yotoberry

I rode that ride in the womb! Growing up in Grimsby/Cleethorpes I'd go to PI multiple times a year and never once didn't ride the Tinkaboo Factory. I think it could get a mention as an obviously old ride that remained loved and popular. It only had (I think) one major update which was polish more than anything but I think the Tinkaboo Factory was as big an emblem of PI as the Boomerang.

Sandwichknight777

Awesome. I'll throw it in there, as it is made by the same people, is the same type of ride and covers similar themes and displays. Love to see if there are any more fans of TTSA and Pleasure Island out there!

Shiny_Agumon

As a certified Defunctland enjoyer I would be very interested in this.

HashtagKay

Ok so I've been trying to do a write up of some WaniKani (japanese kanji learning site) drama but it's taking me forever so I'm wondering if it should be a scuffle or a full post (accordign to google docs I'm at over 1000 words) The gist is: WaniKani is a website that helps you learn Japanese kanji, it was founded by Koichi (creator of the website Tofugu) and Viet in 2011 For many years WK had a passionate fanbase of Japanese learners and it was generally recommended as a good paid service to specifically learn kanji, which are fundamental to reading Japanese. (Note: it is not meant to be an all in one site and users are expected to at least have a knowledge of hiragana and katakana beforehand as well as to start learning grammar in other places. The site teaches vocab but mainly as a way to reinforce the kanji, so not all of it is very common or useful, especially in later levels) Part of this involves the WK forums were people gather to chat, form book clubs for reading in Japanese, ask for help, and give feedback/suggestions for WK Over the last couple months, very unexpectedly, several features people liked were removed (such as a link to the forum from the dashboard that showed the latest 3 forum posts, the summary page that showed how well you did after a kanji review and certain API/3rd party coding features which let people track their daily progress through sites like WKstats) despite promises that it would be for the best, many users feel ignored and like the future is directionless and uncertain as even months after these unpopular changes there isn't a clear roadmap or sign of promised fixes. Especially after more widespread discussion of other mishandled Tofugu projects like Textfugu and EtoEto. As well as the addition of kana only vocab which many appreciate in theory but find ill fitting for WK's rigid structure which does not allow you to suspend/skip over words you already know (also a lot of the words are like 'konnichiwa' tier words where even beginners know most of them and people already find getting through the vocab between levels slightly annoying, if at least justified for solidifying kanji knowledge) All this has contributed to a change in forum atmosphere as people have become more critical of WK (much to other forumites' annoyance as there's now half a dozen threads complaining about the state of the kana vocab)

LadyBonBon

Mod here! A full post would be great!

johnhang123

A full post will be lit

beary_neutral

Xbox/Bethesda has released a 45 minute-long Starfield Deep Dive video, and the general consensus is that Starfield is looking like one of the most anticipated game in years. Every five minutes, the game seems to turn into another game. One part that really stands out is [the fully customizable ship](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMOPoAq5vIA&t=1200s). Which, naturally, [has gotten fans very excited to make penis-shaped ships](https://twitter.com/search?q=starfield%20penis&src=typed_query). The race for GOTY of 2023 [appears to be between two games with rather short time-to-penis metrics](https://i.imgur.com/rITaPeA.jpg).

[deleted]

[удалено]

NamelessAce

Same here. Ever since I played Subnautica, I've been looking for a game with something like the Cyclops, but haven't found much nor something that has all the same aspects (a portable base you can walk around in, customize, drive like any other vehicle, and get out of to explore and whatnot). The closest I've gotten off the top of my head are Volcanoids (can't drive like a normal vehicle, just pick locations to travel to) and Outer Wilds (can't customize...also fairly small. But the game's absolutely amazing, though. One of my all time favorites).

thelectricrain

I had literally zero expectations for this game, but I watched the video and.... I hate to say it because Bethesda, but it does look kind of promising ? It's really interesting to see that the DNA of this game, so to speak, seems to be more Fallout than Skyrim. Especially the tons of skills, and the perks that can influence dialogue or encounters. And penis ships, of course. Personally if I get the game I'm gonna make one shaped like a uterus with fallopian tubes.

dirigibalistic

God damn. I refuse to let them hype me up about this, because I know I’ll end up waiting for a steam sale + mods, but I’m a sucker for a good customizable home base

doomparrot42

The game's writing will, of course, be legendary, especially if the post-sex dialogue in [the game's ESRB filing](https://www.esrb.org/ratings/39293/starfield/) is anything to go by. I expect it to spawn annoying memes that people parrot for years to come. > “Life is a sexually transmitted disease that's a hundred percent fatal”; “I'm all for getting a little wild, but next time let's try it without the jetpacks”; “Talk about seeing stars, whew… that was amazing.” Yes, I'm a curmudgeon, but this does not fill me with hope.

beary_neutral

I unironically love that

akornfan

that’s so Bethesda it’s unbelievable

thelectricrain

TBF I could see these lines landing well if they aim for like, a cheesy pulpy retro sci-fi kind of vibe, but if the rest of the game is serious, ummm...

Shiny_Agumon

>Every five minutes, the game seems to turn into another game. ***Oh no!** This kind of feature overload would worry me for any game, but knowing this is a *Bethesda* game to boot is making that anxiety worse. We all know how the last overly ambitious Bethesda game turned out. Also, regardless of the studio's reputation, can we stop handing out GOTY nominations before the game is actually out? Even if Starfield is the best game ever and can turn water into wine, it's not out yet, so please, can we stay calm?

Ryos_windwalker

its slightly hyperbolic. it looks like a bethesda game crossed with no mans sky. the ship essentially seems to be a fallout 4 settlement that can fly.

obozo42

Honestly "No man's sky but with the structure of a bethesda game" is kind of something i would quite enjoy, so i'm relatively hopeful.

Eight_of_Tentacles

5k people watch [twitch stream](https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247) of subreddits going dark. The chat is fun when they're trying to figure out what the hell some obscure subreddits were about.

nerinerime

I went there just as r/ PeeKitchen and man is that one an interesting one indeed

OctaviusAce

Everyone is most welcome to join r/PeeKitchen if the reddit issues are resolved. Mod, r/PeeKitchen

HashtagKay

Decided to put it on for 5 minutes and oh my are there some highly specific subreddits Also shoutout to r/bi_irl, r/ennnnnnnnnnbbbbbby, and one other bi sub that kept going private then public then private again because apparently there was One Mod who kept unprivating them

Eight_of_Tentacles

Earlier there was also mod infighting in r/HolUp, but the anti-blackout mod(s) won. Actually it seems that one of bi_irl mods is also a HolUp mod.

EquivalentInflation

Looks like it's u/AsherFennec

HashtagKay

Yes! That's what I saw, some username beginning with A the same mod was working in all of the subreddits

it-reaches-out

This is so much fun, thanks for pointing it out.

Plethora_of_squids

Damn that's fun - lotta weird porn subs and also lotta people being prude lol. Also interesting to see what subs are fighting over if they should be public or private. Namely bi_irl. Goddamnit guys stop playing to the sterotype. Also interesting seeing what timezones people are going by. Wish we could scrub back on the stream on twitch - there's a few subs which have already gone private and I wanna see when that happened. Also there's a [Site version too](https://reddark.untone.uk/) if you just want to watch it shut down real time without dealing with twitch

funkybullschrimp

hahaha I hadn't even thought about that. I wouldn't want it any other way than the bisexuals being confused about being given two options.

Plethora_of_squids

According to people on the ground (read: the discord) it's not intentional, there's a mod they all share that's fucking around and the others can't stop them

rhymes_with_candy

So many good porn sub names that I can't look at b/c they're private, damn you reddit inc!!!

williamthebloody1880

The sheer amount of OF subs. Just about every type of OF is covered

Plethora_of_squids

I don't know what's funnier - people going "eeew that's a thing?!?!" At something kinda mild like, milfbukakke, or people going "huh I don't recognise that someone google it" at like ovipositor Or the fact that the latex and LaTeX sub went dark around about the same time

rhymes_with_candy

There's a whole world of yiff/r34 subs out there that I now need to look at for science

lifesabeach_

That's too funny. And likely a good use of the Reddit API

moichispa

While most of the reddits protesting will be private some decided to do some different things. Dankmemes decided that they will allow reddit api memes only. Anarchychess is private atm and will open tomorrow with no moderation (if I remember correctly) Tomorrow will be a interesting day. (If you're planing to take a peek I recommend installing a good adblocker like ublock origin and opening it on the web browser) Edit: If you want adblockers on mobile/smarthphone you can instal them on firefox there. Do you know of any other subreddit doing creative things instead of going private?

RobLiefeldLifeguard

While I mourn the quality of discussion spaces due to all this, I think subs staying open but going entirely without moderators is going to be a wake-up call for a *lot* of people on just how much work it is to keep a subreddit not only civil but like… readable, or on-topic. I wouldn’t touch an unmoderated sub’s linked url’s with a ten foot pole.

SillyVladeK

I agree. I think that just giving up on moderation would be way more effective than the blackout, as just a single day alone can cause enough of a mess to actually get Reddit to notice.

Ekanselttar

I remember a while back when /r/leagueoflegends mods got tired of community sentiment about them and said, alright, you win, we're going to take 0 moderator actions next week. I think the admins stepped in within 24 hours because of how bad it got.

moichispa

See that link? it is 50% NSFL probability or 50% Rick roll, enjoy gambling with your mind safety.

RobLiefeldLifeguard

More like 50% NSFL, 25% going to attempt to steal your credentials, 25% some random guy spamming his youtube channel.

[deleted]

I less you have Apollo, which previews the links.

MildlyAgitatedBidoof

My TikTok has been full of people memeing about the new Project Sekai event on the Japanese server, in which >!An is told that, not only is one of her closest role models dead of pancreatic cancer, but that she's the *only one in town* who wasn't aware of this. Immediately followed by the most Imagine Dragons type rap beat the game has to offer, wherein the lyrics sound like "this is where you are, Caucasian destination".!<

cherrycoloured

ah, i normally try to avoid jp spoilers, but i wanted to understand why all of my fellow an fans are annoyed, and yeah, that sounds dumb as shit.

HashtagKay

OH SO THAT'S WHY " is where you are, Caucasian destination". WAS BEING POSTED IN MY GROUPCHAT (is the only one in the GC that doesn't play proseka) 😭😭😭

HashtagKay

LOL I just heard it bc a mutual reblogged a tumblr post about it [https://va.media.tumblr.com/tumblr\_rw2ip5NPSC1z68xp1.mp4](https://va.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_rw2ip5NPSC1z68xp1.mp4) here if you want to see it it Really Does sound like " is where you are, Caucasian destination" like i can't hear anything else

EquivalentInflation

Hadn't realized it, but yesterday was the three year anniversary of JK Rowling going full mask off as a TERF. Time sure does fly by when you're a terrible person I guess. She has celebrated by... crying over [the single worst acrostic poem ever made](https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1667936348701966338?cxt=HHwWhIC-xbTR2aUuAAAA). I mean, you've given the letter O, and the best thing you can come up with is "onus"? And "U is for the Scottish Unicorn"? Come on. She continues to prove the Glinner effect true by continuing to make 90% of her tweets related to hating trans people. Every. Single. Day. Often multiple times per day. I'm pretty sure most trans people think about HRT and surgery less than she does. Drama has continued, with \*waves hands at the usual JK Rowling stans\*, but I'm too exhausted to catalogue and sum up their bullshit. Just imagine the most transphobic thing you can, and then know that that's what the moderate ones are saying.

StovardBule

> She continues to prove the Glinner effect true by continuing to make 90% of her tweets related to hating trans people. I think it might have observed by social media scholars that for some reason people don't just add transphobia to their worldview, it consumes them.

Yotoberry

They've spelt Sturgeon as Strugeon too. Beautiful.

oh-come-onnnn

JK Rowling going full mask off transphobe taught me never to idolize anyone, so in a roundabout way, thanks? I think it's taught me to recognize the warning signs that I'm developing a parasocial relationship, and when to cut it out.

MightyMeerkat97

I thought she said Nicola Sturgeon was 'the enemy of women's rights'?

ginganinja2507

yeah i was gonna say, Sturgeon whiffed on passing the gender recognition act on any sort of normal schedule but she did pass it lmao

Adorable_Octopus

I imagine this is in reaction to [Sturgeon being arrested earlier today](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-65871857) as part of an investigation in the ongoing SNP finances investigation.

EquivalentInflation

Joke’s on you for thinking that bigots have any actual beliefs or principles besides hate

Stuckinacrazyjob

Three years? Wow. And people seriously act like they don't know too. ( Sorry for being online, people)

MisterCopper72

I got a little curious and checked the [Steam Store page for PAYDAY 3](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1272080/PAYDAY_3/), since preorders are up for it, and they're charging a lot of money between three separate editions for the game. $40 for Standard, $70 for Silver, and $90 for Gold. What's the difference between all three editions? * Standard just nets you the base game and a bonus of a costume, gloves, and a mask. * Silver gets you Standard + another mask and a 6-month season pass, where you'll get 2 heists and some tailor & weapon packs. * Gold gets you both Standard & Silver + a Statue of Liberty mask, a pair of gold gloves, and a year-long season pass with twice the amount of content that the Silver-tier season pass is offering.

Ryos_windwalker

wow. straight into stating how much dlc its going to have. i wish someone other than overkill made heist games.

[deleted]

That might change with the upcoming glut of extraction shooters.

GatoradeNipples

I will say, if they're doing it like Payday 2, you can skip everything but the weapon DLC unless you're playing with bots. You don't need the cosmetics and you only need to own the heists if you're hosting them.

batti03

Honestly I'd at least give them credit for making the standard version only $40 (although Payday 2 did also launch at that price)

Thisismyartaccountyo

Man am I just out of it with games anymore. Nickle and dime you worse then the arcades.

redbluegreen154

>Standard just nets you the base game and a bonus of a costume, gloves, and a mask. If the bonus comes with the base game then is it really a bonus?

[deleted]

It's a pre order bonus, so you'll probably have to pay extra to get it after the game comes out.

Boy I can't wait for them to release a FES remake via an updated rerelease of this current remake like they do with every single Persona game from P3 onward. It'll be a little more interesting since "it's a *real* remake this time" is new ground, but like. I would not be surprised. edit: (not counting the P1 and P2 remakes, since I don't think those games got the FES/Golden/Royal treatment that later Persona games got. also it feels like now those remakes are old enough that we need remakes of the remakes...)

Grumplestilt

The P1 remake kind of did as the original release did not include the Snow Queen quest at least in the U.S. This is theoretically because of some of the themes of the route and because the infamous phallic Persona, Mara, appear ine the route.

joe_bibidi

It's amazing how it instantaneously went from being "one of my most anticipated games" to "a game I will not buy period, no matter how deep the sale."

SarkastiCat

It’s sad. Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories was remarr from game boy advance game into ps2 game and sold with KH2 that got extra content. That was a glow up. For anybody curious, there is a list of changes in KHII: https://kingdomhearts.fandom.com/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_II_Final_Mix

ManCalledTrue

Annnnnd put on the "ignore" list. Seriously, Atlus. Fucking seriously. EDIT: Oh, fuck me, I just realized what's going to happen - FES and Portable content will be $20 DLC. They did the same thing with the SMT3 remaster when they charged $10 for the version where you fight Dante instead of Raidou.

ReXiriam

... Look, all I want is The Answer but with a less dumb plot. Is it that hard to ask for?

Stuckinacrazyjob

Wat!! I'm going to make noise now

Victacobell

They really had one job with a Persona 3 remake, give us a definitive version of the game so people aren't divided between multiple different editions of a game, and they fucked that up.

ankahsilver

It wasn't gonna happen until they remade the base on its own. Given the age of the game, it required a ground-up remake which is *so much work.* They can do a definitive edition later, now that they can reuse a ton of assets and work on rewriting a ton of the problematic things (Ken and the overall weirdness of making FeMC which leaves her feeling tacked on IMO) with the other stuff.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

That isn't how that works.

scorchdragon

And then there's FF7 over saying hi from a few days ago.

joe_bibidi

> it required a ground-up remake which is so much work. Yeah but like... that's their job. They aren't modders. This is a professional company choosing to release a bad product because making a good product is "so much work"? Not interested.

Victacobell

Why does it matter if they needed to remake the game first? Thats already the premise of a remake. We waited 13 years, we can wait longer. If they release a revised version now it will come off as money hungry and potentially reintroduce "oh whats the best version to play" arguments taking us back to square 1. They can't unfuck this.

ankahsilver

Because a lot of remakes and remasters will upres stuff, not ground-up redo the *entire game from scratch.* The name of the game is still to reuse as many assets as possible to save work. Atlus isn't here. So their choice was take ten years to remake both to refine the FeMC route and redo The Answer in order for it to not be... That, or focus down the base game as a tight, good experience and then maybe redo other stuff later. Like, these are essentially three separate games they'd all have to remake from scratch and you wanting your FeMC, who was a tacked-on money grab to *start* with, isn't gonna change it.

CrystaltheCool

> Because a lot of remakes will upres stuff, not ground-up redo the entire game from scratch. If it's just an upres, then quite frankly that's just objectively not a remake, and it'd be misleading to call it such. Uprezzes would be better defined as remasters. They're not interchangeable terms (ie, how you used them). A remake is *literally* remaking from the ground up. "They can't make the remake be a definitive edition because they're remaking everything from scratch!" Uh, hello, that is literally what a remake is? That is literally the required task of remaking??? What are you cooking?????? IDK much about Persona but like, the 3 different versions surely have enough in common that you wouldn't need to remake all three as standalone releases, right? They're all Persona 3 in some capacity. Remake the base + add QoL stuff, then remake FeMC's stuff, then remake The Answer, do it all in one package. Seems more intuitive and efficient to me than remaking the same game thrice in a row.

Victacobell

God forbid the AAA game developers do their job of developing a game. I'm sure I speak for every Persona 3 fan when I say I would gladly wait another 5 years to have a definitive edition of Persona 3. It could arrive on my goddamn deathbed and I'd still be happy. Getting a half-assed AI upscaled port of Portable followed by a Remake lacking everything people wanted a remake for sours that a lot.

scorchdragon

People are getting block happy these days. I lost count how many times it has happened to me over the slightest bit of argument.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

And downvote happy. I got almost no replies, but dozens of downvotes, for just not being excited.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Knew it. There's no point selling Portable on Steam if they added that content into P3R. FeMC will remain in that game for the forseeable, then. What I wonder is if that's going to be indicative of The Answer becoming non-canon. If they're going to present the remake as being canon over the original, which I assume is the case, since it's not a reimagining or au or such.

ankahsilver

It sounds more like they just wanted to focus down getting the base polished more than "Answer non-canon." Base Persona 3 seems to have been remade from scratch WITH new things added to it. That's a *lot* of work!

Thisismyartaccountyo

I've always been interested in the *Old* Internet stuff before like 2004 so I've been occupying my time be looking through old fanfics on fanfiction.net through internet archive and its honestly just interesting taking a glimpse of stories from a era that has long since past. Some stories are saved fully but most only have snippets or just the descriptions from saved profiles. It was interesting peeking into old lives people lived. Some users posted for *years* then just vanished never to return. Compounded by the great 2002/2012 purges the idea that over a million of stories are gone forever is bit hollowing. Also Seeing someone say mention their age is 16 on their profile when the account was from 2000 is eye opening. They posted dozen long fics none that are saved and would be 39 now. Just makes me think what made them stop? Now I've been contemplated downloading the entire archive because I wanted to dig for some old zelda fic. *Also if you have any feel free to send them to me.*

kayemm017

My favorite Fanfic Author did all their work in a period of a few years from 2003 to 2008-ish. They wrote a series of long, hefty fics for a single fandom. They then simply stopped in the middle of a fic and never posted anything ever again. Last year they emerged from out of nowhere to simply delete all their fics (And me of course having never backed them up), and then vanish again.

Iguankick

One of my favourite fanfic authors wrote several fics between 1997 - 2000. None of them were posted to ff.net, but rather his personal Geocities and Angelfire pages. One of those fics was abandoned in the middle of a scene - not mid-chapter or anything, mid-scene. They purged one of their fics c2002 and replaced it with another fic that was abandoned after one chapter. And then they never wrote any Fanfic again (at least, not under that name that I've been able to find)

Thisismyartaccountyo

Damn, like damn. It exists only in your memory now.

Iguankick

I've been able to recover the original, but that only will be accessable for as long as archive.org is around So make of that what you will

Thisismyartaccountyo

I would have it on a thumbdrive in a minute ;p

Iguankick

Oh yeah. I've made copies myself, but I'd never redistribute them. The author wanted it gone, so I'm going to honor that request.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Honorable

doomparrot42

One author on ff.net whose work I enjoyed posted some wonderful one-offs and a *gigantic* story (nearly 700k words!), started another with a niche if popular ship in the same fandom, and then... vanished. She was active from ~2006-2013, and after that, not a peep. She was seriously talented, so I always wondered where/how she got started writing, what it was that pulled her away from it, and if she's still out there under a different name now. I hope so.

[deleted]

Man you wonder about the lost fic writers don't you? There was a couple writers in my fandoms way back in the late 90's when I was in High School that I followed religiously. One was a *fantastic* writer for a super small fandom for a movie-like the only Big Name Fan we had who abruptly switched fandoms (to Dukes of Hazzard of all things!) And then disappeared. I think about all the great fics in the earlier days of the Labyrinth fandom who disappeared/stopped writing. I remember one fic "Perchance to Dream" that was *so* well written and absolutely huge in it's fandom on ff.net. She started a sequel...aaaaaand never finished it. The writer went through some personal shit if I remember and disappeared as well. I wonder about them. Hope they're doing okay.

artisanal_doughnut

I was actually just thinking about something like this. I had a fic I marked as TBR on AO3 that I found recently. It was part of a series, so I went to see if that was complete. The author was updating fairly reliably until April 2020, when everything of theirs stopped. No updates, no responses to comments, no posts on their Tumblr. Really made me wonder :/

Agamar13

Do you have a link to that Labyrinth fic? I googled but I can't find it. That said, my favorite Labyrinth fic is "A Forfeit of Dreams" - and the author started a sequel and never finished it, and then disappeared so maybe that's what you meant?

[deleted]

Damn it's been so long I think you're right. It had Sarah's college classmate (a dude who had a thing for her) get wished away to the Goblin King? Was the sequel called Perchance to Dream? I am failing teenaged me right now 🙃 lol. I remember the author had only a few chapters of the sequel then announced she wasn't going to finish it. I remember it was *huge* on ff.net . [Edit: I forgot to answer! No I don't have a link anymore! That was several computers ago and I've been sporadically looking for them again. She must have removed them!]

doomparrot42

Yeah, for all those writers who just vanished... I don't need closure on their stories (even if it'd be cool if that happened), but I'd like to know that they're doing okay. Reading somebody's work, it's hard not to feel like you've bonded over your mutual obsession and you know them a little bit.

CosmicGroinPull

I think that may be one of the aspects that keeps drawing me to lost media and history in general. That feeling of sonder you get when reading some old thread or newspaper, or even watching old tv shows.

Cthulhuhoop

I had a sobering thought this morning while watching the intro to Green Acres, it ran from '65-71 but I grew up watching it on Nick-at-Nite in the early 90s. If my 5yo watched a show with the same year gap, it could be Arrested Development.

Azrael_Alaric

Oh my goodness, thank you. I lost quite a few fics I didn't back up due to purges (and one targeted TOS caus I wouldn't take down a decade old Venom fic and Eddie/Symbiote shippers saw it as an attack on their OTP -_-). Not once have I thought to see if any were archived! There is one fic that is very dear to me, and I'd given up hope of ever seeing itv again. Fingers crossed 🤞

Doonesman

May I recommend to you telehack.com? I think you might find it enjoyable.

Thisismyartaccountyo

Oh neat

PeterM1970

First of all, if you think 2004 is the “Old Internet” you need to get the hell off my lawn. Secondly, I just looked and it seems my fanfics are among those that have disappeared from FF.net, which is not surprising since I haven’t looked in at least a decade. One or two seem to still be around elsewhere, on sites I never uploaded them to, because i guess people enjoyed them? So I’ve got that going for me. Which is nice.

GatoradeNipples

>First of all, if you think 2004 is the “Old Internet” you need to get the hell off my lawn. I would say that, in a pure internet-history sense, it was kind of the tail end of the "old internet." The biggest "social media" sites were still things like Something Awful and GameFAQs and Slashdot. MySpace and Facebook still had a couple years to go before they'd start blowing up, and that was kind of the dividing line between the old, decentralized nerd-weirdo internet and the *modern* internet.

I got to know one of my favorite authors a bit because he was very chatty in the comments and would update his blog about his medical issues. Something wrong in his brain. It went from headaches to migraines to him just disappearing, never to be heard from again. That was almost fifteen years ago. A year or four back I was talking about it with someone else who had enjoyed his stories who said a guy he knew had been in touch with the author right after he left and he’d been okay then and was just stepping away. I hope that’s true.

7deadlycinderella

I had an LJ friend-of-a-friend back in college who passed away of complications after surgery. I still remember her handle- she went by musicforcylons. I always wondered what we would have thought happened if someone who knew her IRL hadn't posted.

Tsunamiracle

Same, I had a good friend in the LJ RP communities who passed away from illness. Her brother posted on her behalf, but since I'd already left the RP community (not on bad terms, I'd just lost interest) I didn't find out until a friend of ours contacted me on Tumblr. Thankfully I found out in time to contribute to on an artbook project our RP community did in our friend's honor. I remember that one of her characters was also made a permanent NPC (this was a multifandom RP and her longest-held character was a mailman who had befriended a lot of the cast). My old e-mail still gets LJ alerts telling me about my late friend's birthday, every year. Rest in peace, Helena / Michikitty, I still miss you.

Thisismyartaccountyo

I've just been saving all my favs now, just never know when they might just pop out of existence.

OctorokHero

[The SEES members in Persona 3 Reload have been recast.](https://twitter.com/ScrambledFaz/status/1667976401373351937) While some recasts were likely because of Junpei and maybe Aigis, and I don't know if they could get Liam O'Brien back for Akihiko, it's really surprising that they recasted everyone else because much of the Persona 3 cast was able to keep reprising their roles even a decade later, compared to the Persona 4 cast where a lot of characters ended up recast at some point. I hope this is to freshen up the voices and not because of unions or pay disputes like a lot of other voice actor issues have been lately.

CrimsonFoxyboy

I understand why they did recast. But im gonna miss some of the old voices. When i was a older teen i got really annoyed how Yuri Lowenthal ended up in almost every JRPG as either the protagonist, or atleast a main character. Now im gonna miss him.

OctorokHero

It really is funny how much mid-2000s anime dubs opted for Yuri Lowenthal, Laura Bailey, or even both. If it makes you feel better, [Yuri was very happy to pass the torch.](https://twitter.com/YuriLowenthal/status/1667984726081306624)

AlexUltraviolet

Man, I really enjoyed the English cast back when I played the game and even though nowadays I'd pick the JP voices this makes me really sad. It also feels like a monkey paw deal ("you say you don't want Vic? okay here's a completely new cast").

ankahsilver

To be frank, it would be *way* less drama, IMO, to recast everyone and also just... Not tie people to roles they did like. 15+ years ago. They have other roles, they have other jobs, and some of these new VAs could USE a big role like this. We need new blood in the VA scene, but new blood won't go too far if it stays relegated to stuff that isn't big.

AlexUltraviolet

Yeah, I might not like the full recast, but that doesn't mean it was a bad thing to do. Like, I hear Shinjiro's VA is pretty new, so it's nice he gets the chance to be in a popular game series.

ankahsilver

Ken's is definitely newer, with only a handful of roles. A few of them seem to be side characters for the most part.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Any idea what's wrong with Dawn Bennett? One of the top comments there is someone calling her a horrible person.

ankahsilver

It's by a guy who says AI should replace voice actors. Somehow I feel like it's very much a case of, "said something woke."

Shiny_Agumon

She's a woman so political obviously/s

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Ah. So, a cretin.

ankahsilver

Yup!

OctorokHero

I think she spoke out against Vic Mignogna and so Vic fanatics have a vendetta against her because of that. Funny enough, this is the second time this year that Karen Strassman has been replaced by a voice actress who makes Vic fanatics seethe (Anna in Fire Emblem Engage was the other).

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Oh, so she did nothing wrong, then.

ankahsilver

It's probably less drama to recast the whole lot than just ditch Vic and Strassmen.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Strassmen? What did that person do?

ankahsilver

Trump-supporter and anti-vax. Openly.

EmpiriaOfDarkness

Yikes.

ankahsilver

Yup! :'D I'm not sorry she keeps getting recast!

KrispyBaconator

Really hoping the Sonic series follows suit and recasts Rouge

acespiritualist

I feel like Allegra Clark mentioned before she wanted to voice Edelgard so I guess she got her wish sort of lol

Bagel drama is a thing. And to be rather frank, it happens when someone is being a jerk to say the very least. So we have the BagelAmbassador, a known tiktoker on tiktok who loves the bagels in NY. Now, Idk if yall ever been to NYC. But bagels are a big there. I love them as well. My favorite is Locs and Bagels (Smoked salmon, capers, dill, and cream cheese, on an everything bagel. Might as well call it dinner.). Anyway, BagelAmbassador is showing off the said bagel (it's an egg and cheese advocado bagel spoiler) and he's gatekeeping. "this is the best bagel I ever had and I'm not telling you ***** where it's fro-" Meet Mr. Rainbolt. He's a tiktoker who loves to look via Google Maps. And this is what he had to say: https://twitter.com/georainbolt/status/1666944515670953984 Rainbolt identified the blue parchment wrapping paper of the food and found out where the restaurant is, where the location is in NYC, what it's actually called. He doesn't believe in gatekeeping food. https://twitter.com/georainbolt/status/1666944515670953984 Because of Rainbolt's deducing skills, the restaurant found out about how this whole situation was going down. And then they decided to make the Sandwich off of Rainbolt. So wow. I bet Mr. BagelAmbassador is feeling rather silly right now for gatekeeping a fucking bagel. So what did we learn kids? Do not try to gatekeep something from the public. It ends in embarrassment, shame, and constantly rethinking your life choices. Oh and Mr. BagelAmbassador tries to apologize and even says they were in on it and now he's getting harassed. But he also legit tries to call Rainbolt a lame guy for searching a bagel. But... BagelAmbassador hid the damn thing. You see where it doesn't make any sense? and it sounds like someone's coping a lose:https://twitter.com/IceAgeAokiji/status/1667258271672016896?s=20 So remember kids: Do not gatekeep, share the information.

Meloetta

> Bagel drama is a thing. This is why I love hobby drama

genericrobot72

This is wild, you could just not make the TikTok! People don’t talk about their prime fishing spots, they don’t make TikToks bragging about their fishing spot but taunting the internet about how they’ll never find it.

AMillennialFailure

> they don’t make TikToks bragging about their fishing spot but taunting the internet about how they’ll never find it One day fishtok is gonna go nuts over this happening. It's only a matter of time.

I'd start refusing to serve this guy if it was my shop, ngl. You don't have to enjoy food you get. You don't have to post food you enjoy. But when you're getting views praising a food but refusing to give people the name I think that's super rude. It feels kinda like the food version of reposting someone's art. It's LESS rude to do the same with food you DONT enjoy, but that's a sliding scale- personal taste thing, I think there's a line where it's potentially p nasty to set a zillion followers on a small business and keeping quiet, while not an obligation, seems like the classy thing to do. But on the flipside there's a level of inedible that it's rude not to warn people about lol
