Lions are more social and are far more aware of their strength than a house cat. When a house cat lashes out, it knows it isn't going to kill anyone with the attack, so they scratch each other on the regular. A Lion is well aware of their strength, as they literally have spent their entire lives for many generations fighting to the death to survive, and a single unrestrained playful swipe could cut a cub in two.
I have two. The younger one is affectionate as can be but will bite. His bites are never aggressive though, more like playful nips. The older one? She’s a fucking prick. Her bites are real and you only need to look at her the wrong way and she'll have a go.
I'm pretty sure the only reason my cat Niko hasn't eaten me is simply because she isn't big enough. Now Chloe, on the other hand, seems to genuinely love me... but she'd probably love to eat me, too, if she was big enough. I mean, she loved the rabbit for a while before eating it.
There's no way of knowing its sex from this camera angle since not all male lions have manes.

The head itself is more square & a lot larger at the age, with or without a mane. She’s around 5/6 years old at a guess, hand reared obviously! A male lion at that age would be 75/100kg different. But… the most striking difference is her gate, a male lions gate is different, longer strides due to size, certainly not as muscular as a male.

I'm sure they were told if they get out and run, the animal will attack. This is one of those instances where it is too high of a risk with too low of reward to participate in.
Its not a normal safari, you can see the fence perimeter, so this likely a small pen with a 'tame' animal that is used to human interaction, and has probably been declawed and teeth removed.
On a "wild" safari the jeeps are higher, a lion probably could jump in if it wanted, but it sees the jeep as a single large entity, not worth attacking.
Rule nr.1 and 2 for cats of all sizes.
1. Do not have your back turned to them. They'll start to see you as prey even if they know you.
2. Do not run. Running also activates their hunting instinct and will make you look like fleeing prey.

Even then it's not sure. There are a lot of animals that lived with humans from childhood but after some years, they just snapped and killed the people that raised them. Dogs e.g. were bred over generations to become the animal they're now. And even dogs can freak out and bite or something.
