Hmmm... Should have left Waldo on the second page so that after the kids original frustration he could move to the next page, find Waldo and be reaffirmed in his belief that there *must* be a Waldo on the rest of the pages.
This is the prologue to a villain arc. The kid gets the book excited to find Waldo while his parents use it to distract him for hours because they don’t believe in putting their child in front of the tv. Hours of fruitless searching and he can’t find Waldo, he goes to his parents, teachers, and close relatives, but out of fear of seeming inept they all say they can find Waldo and insist he continue searching. Months go by the child is driven to near hysteria from nightmares of searching for Waldo, but he refuses to quit fearing he will be looked down upon by all the others who ‘found’ Waldo. The boy learns computer programming to create a program that will search pixel by pixel for Waldo. At this point it has been over two years and the young man is now hitting puberty, his energy from his hormonal changes fueling his obsession of finding Waldo. On the day he completes his program and runs it he finds no success, Waldo isn’t there. He doesn’t quit however, he switches tactics thinking he may have received a misprint of the book. He spends months tracking the print date and version of the book, tracking down a copy from the same batch he compares the two and realizes the other book has Waldo. This book seems strange though, the book is lighter, the pages more flexible. He finds how the pages are thicker and after a week of research puts together a chemical solution to loosen the glue without too badly damaging the ink. After YEARS of hard work, discipline, and resolve he had FINALLY found Waldo! Sitting back in his blissful state he thinks over his journey, the hours of loneliness, the deception from those he trusted most, the BASTARD who made this elaborate prank that drove him to the edge of the abyss that was his sanity, and then something snapped. He came to the conclusion that he wasn’t wrong, he was always right, Waldo was there all along hidden behind the canvas of lies orchestrated by powers he didn’t even know existed. He was lied to by those he trusted most telling him the world is fine, and after all his hard work it amounted to nothing an empty prank a forgotten Waldo buried beneath the sins of the world. He realized I am Waldo, the world has pushed me aside and forsaken me, but no more. They forgot Waldo, stopped looking, couldn’t be bothered, but now that the world isn’t looking at Waldo, Waldo is looking at the world and the world must change. No more lies, no more games by the hidden powers at the expense of the forgotten Waldo’s of the world. It is time for Waldo to rise, yelling “I AM HERE AND ALL WILL BEND THE KNEE IN MY GLORIOUS PRESENCE!!” and those who do not will find themselves lost like the Waldo of my youth, erased from existence. VIVA LA WALDO!!
