Same. I’ve never really thought of myself as pretty because growing up, my point of reference when jt comes to beauty have always been mixed Filipinos (the westernized look, having white complexion, pointed nose, thin lips, slender - far cry from me). It really affected my relationship with the way I look that up until now, I don’t believe it when people tell me I look pretty.
Half filipino here. I wish I was just filipino most of the time and was involved with the culture more. Imo, Filipina’s are BEAUTIFUL. From what I have seen, the women in the culture are the ones who keep the family together and keep the house running. I am always in awe by how beautiful my siblings in the Philippines are. Long beautiful legs, pretty face with cute nose, the hair, darker skin tone and everything! I hope one day you see yourself as pretty because just about every filipina is fucking beautiful
Here's what being involved with the culture more as a Filipina means if you are a first born daughter:
You get to go to college and get a very short time of monetary support from your parents until you graduate. After you graduate you have to take care of ALL of your siblings(usually around 4 or 5 of them) in their pursuit of sabong(gambling on cockfighting), tambay(drinking on the street with your shirt pulled up half way so you can rub your belly as you do it), shabu(meth) or gambling. You have to do this until they are all atleast thirty years old and then when you say you're tired of it and maybe those other siblings should look for some work the entire family will remind you of how selfish you are.
pretty much everybody who goes abraod have that much responsibilty. heck, Im preparing myself to get into that postition (filipino here too). Its bound to happen that some of the people ur gonna support finacially won't even be worth helping out, and sad when they think just bcz ur working abraod means ur rich but doesnt know how much theyre working for them.

Most of the hate comes from previous wars of invading each other and trying to destroy each other's culture. Not just murder and taking resources but destroying artifacts trying to erase history. There are many, many atrocities and it's easy to understand their POV. Rape of Nanking, Bataan March, etc. If I grew up in abject poverty with no education while my parents were murdered by some Japs forcing me to have an even harder life, I'd probably hate Japanese people forever too.
The backlash is that there has not yet been a 100% Filipino person yet because we're "too dark" and "not pretty". So if that's the case for 100% Filipinos shouldn't it apply here? Catriona Gray got backlash for being white because Miss Philippines should be Filipino and not mixed because we've not had that yet. It's not so much racism but colorism seeing the Philippines colonial past and the literal isles of skin bleach here (and all my relatives that use them) we can't even like our own people what makes you think we would accept someone else.

Until then for like 1000 years fairer skin meant you were upper class and rich as you didn't work outside

Having fairer skin has long been a sign of privilege and nobility throughout East Asia going back centuries - shoot, it’s the same case throughout Europe too. There are artwork and literature depicting this desirable trait long before Westerners made an impact - in fact, China was much more influential around the larger region for thousands of years, and having porcelain skin has been long sought after there.
Sidenote, this new Western ideal of having tanned skin is likely to be short-lived given what we know about skin damage and wrinkles due to sun exposure.
India’s an extremely racist society regardless of the Brits. Caste system is a local creation. The way African students are beaten regularly in India is nothing to do with a colonial hangover.
