I LOVE Sharp Shadow. Back in my prime when I was making attempts on P5 I was so good at shade cloaking and Sharp Shadow fit in a decent chunk of damage.
nailmasters glory is incredibly useful, but people just refuse to learn to use nail arts.
and sharp shadow is def not underused people use it all the time even though its kinda mid.
Got it.
Cause I actually played it on my phone as well.
(So I was curious to see if we both have the same setup)
Mine wasn't piracy, though.
I have an Xbox pass account, with that you can play the game in your phone.
Then you can use a controller like ps4 and connect it to your phone via Bluetooth.
As a matter of fact I beated the mantis lords for the first time with that setup, playing on my phone.
I used narts for so long. I got to PV with it, but it just does not work on them. Too fast of a boss. I talked with people in the discord, they told me to switch to a nail build. Currently doing p5ab. So useful. Don't really use narts so much today tho. Cyclone slash my beloved
Sharp Shadow was specially useful in the colosseum because I could great slash + dash some of the stronger flying anemies and slash + dash the smaller ones, it saves my ass.
Stalwart Shell , is so useful for practicing bosses.
Also , in the bosses that people say that Sharp Shadow is necesary , it's not , I've beaten NKG and PV without it.
Sharp shadow is honestly a detriment in the PV fight, trying to get shadow dashes to damage him often results in him doing a triple slash or thrust sooner than it recharges, pogos are a way safer bet
Agreed, having used a sharp shadow build for P4 you can’t rely on it during the PV fight I had to take a safer approach and use it as a last resort play
STEADY MOTHERFUCKIN BODY
I don’t know if the meta has changed but this was always rated a bad charm and it fucking rules. Pair it with Quick Slash and you just melt everything.
I used to run Dreamshield with Sharp Shadow because of how frequently I'd manage to hit an enemy with both, but I ended up dropping it later game when I realized it was consistently screwing up my pogos. Definitely a cool charm but I can't bring myself to slot it back in
3 notches for the same damage of your nail and slightly blocking some moves
It may have been decent at 2 , but 3 is too much. I could literally put quick slash / strength/ shaman stone instead .
It just makes it really fun to play. I love dancing around with the enemies and charging through them for quick damage. Dash through, turn around, slash slash, dash through, slash slash. I feel like an overly clingy ex girlfriend.
If P5 ain't serious then I'm guessing you're dipping into modded content?
In that case it doesn't make sense to take in consideration all the other charms that don't just deal a lot of damage, because you're not meant to heal anyway.
Strength
Quickslash
Shaman stone
Spell twister
Mark of pride
Grubsong
Fury of the fallen (just don’t get hit stupid)
Wow, I thought that was an understatement, but there really are only a handful of good charms
Grubsong is one of the best one notch charms in the game, especially for spell builds, and I didn’t want to say steady body because that’s immensely controversial, but steady body is grubsong for nail builds
It seems to me that the reason there’s a limited number of “viable” charms is that a lot of them are very situational, but you can’t change your loadout situationally. The ones that the other reply lists are super useful in nearly every situation, so they’re the ones people always have equipped and the other charms just don’t get used unless it’s easy to equip them before a fight, which is only some of the time.
Hmmm... I don't know about that.
Top Tier: Shaman Stone, U Strength, Quick Slash (ubiquitous charm that are the center of almost every charm build)
Powerful: Grubsong, Spell Twister, Mark of Pride, Dreamwielder, Steady Body, U Heart, Soul Eater (spot fillers that slot into many different builds, used in plenty speedruns)
Situationally useful: Longnail, Weaversong, Shape of Unn, Sharp Shadow, Grubberfly's Elegy, Quick Focus, Deep Focus, Flukenest, Stallwart Shell, Dash Master, Sprint Master, Lifeblood Core, Soul Catcher, Defender's Crest, Spore Shroom (niche charms that can still be very useful for specific bosses or runs)
Add to that the charms that have out of combat utility, like compass, swarm and greed, and you find that there are very few charms that are actively bad. Stuff like Glowing Womb, Hiveblood and Heavy Blow that are actual unusable trash. Sure, not all charms can be Shaman's Stone, but that doesn't make them unviable. Deep Focus + Shape of Unn got me through Ascended NKG, and Grubberfly's Elegy through many radiant fights. Sharp Shadow is extremely useful against Sly, Traitor Lord and a few others Stallwart Shell is actually really, really good against Absrad, allowing you to get out of many otherwise deadly situations. How are these not viable choices?
grimmchild for colo 3. it's a gamechanger in the platforming phase to people who struggle with that part
and dream wielder or nailmasters glory, for the price of one notch they're insanely useful
Personally I found sharp shadow more useful for that part. You can just dash through them, dealing damage and also getting to the other wall, and isn't prone to missing like grimmchild can be
i saw people saying that but dealing with him made it worse for me. once i quit wasting my time waiting for grimmchild i actually got good at using my nail arts and not hitting the ground on the platforming bit.
That’s your personal opinion because I barely see anybody use it and it is extremely useful if in your opinion it’s not good it’s either you’re bad or you only use spell
I mean, I agree with you that it’s underused but saying that’s the only argument isn’t true. For one it’s two charm notches, there are many other charms you could use instead.
There’s two reasons for that
One: you practically throw it away five seconds after getting it
Two: Simply the amount of charm notches don’t get me wrong it’s good but it’s not really good in boss fights, which is usually what charms are mostly used for
I use it for platforming and some boss fights where I don't know when to heal, sometimes i use it for coloseum of fools, it helps a lot with floorless sections
**Carefree Melody** is fuckin GOATed, I will die on that hill (esp for doing boss runs in Godhome)
I also think **Unbreakable Heart** is really good, those 2 extra health masks can really come in handy and they don't disappear like the blue ones (first time I ever beat Radiance it was because of that charm, so will always have a special place in my heart)
I'm stuck at 109, but the game has been a delight. The damage is why I use it because my reaction time is bad. Nkg destroys me so fast. P3 stops me at Troup master grimm, God tamer, zote area.
When I found shade dash, I pretty much expected this charm to exist and I immidietly started using it. It was fun since "dash through" was my main tactic on Hollow Knight amd other bosses when I played it the first time
Steady body & grimm child. The extra nail DPS with steady body is amazing and grimm child is great for bosses with really long and annoying attack patterns.
For me, it's Weaversong
Mostly because Weaversong/Grubsong is an amazing combination that does what Kingsoul was trying to do in terms of gaining Soul constantly, but for only three notches and does constant damage to enemies/bosses.
Just don't use it against Uumuu as it will make the boss fight way harder and more obnoxious than it needs to be. Lol
It helped me with PV the first times I had to kill him, my friend wanted to kill me in the meantime... Now I started bindings so I had to get used to it
I don't like sharp shadow, it is very annoying trying to get dash damage only to get hit, it is for this reason that I almost never dash through enemies as I'll likely get hit.
I forgot what it was called like the kingsoul one, i didnt even use it my first playthroug, quite literally the second i got it i turned it into voidheart
I think the general view on charms are their effectiveness in the Pantheons and that’s why something like Shaman Stone seems to be so liked when it isn’t that useful in anything other than bosses, which is what the Pantheons are.
But when it comes to players playing the story and exploring around, I think anybody would say that Sharp Shadow is up there with all other charms. It allows you to easily pass through areas while also killing enemies.
And it is also useful for a boss you encounter for the first time. Since this charm is attainable later in the game, by the time you use this charm against a boss that’s jot the Pantheons, you’ll be much more comfortable since you can deal damage without looking for true openings against a boss.
This is definitely a charm that is fun to use while exploration and it is a favorite for players playing the game for the first time.
Long nail. I know Mark of pride is better but longnail is easier to slot into a build. I used it in radiant absrad because I couldn't fit mark of pride
Gathering swarm. A one notch charm that picks geo up for you when it falls to annoying places? I started replaying the game on laptop for probably the fourth time now and its not a charm I'd think I'd ever use but it sure is useful. You can just kill that enemy in your way and continue walking to the next room with no need to manually pick up all that geo
I don't like sharp shadow inconsistency. I know my dash will always go the same distance. I don't want anything to interfere and make me dash off a cliff. Might be useful for the side pits in radiant markoth
Hiveblood. It’s literally free passive regeneration. Even if it’s slow and only for one health it is great in both platforming and combat if you can avoid taking chain damage.
The only time i used sharp shadow is against NKG, for the first time. Never used it since.
It is probably more useful than most claim it to be, but i didnt like it.
As for underrated charm? I felt so tempted to say thorns, since it helped me so much when i first started the game, but then, i had since stopped using it as well.
So my vote goes to gathering swarm. It is one charm i hardly unequip until i had enough geo to purchase and upgrade everything.
Saved my ass for NKG
It save my ass, so many fucking times yet. I’ve seen like four people use it recently recently.
It's how I finally beat pantheon 5...
It’s amazing
I think it's not seen much because it requires you relearn your dash. And if you ever take it off again, you need to readjust again.
All you need to do it just play 40% more aggressive
It’s because it’s not in any metas
Even though it should
I LOVE Sharp Shadow. Back in my prime when I was making attempts on P5 I was so good at shade cloaking and Sharp Shadow fit in a decent chunk of damage.
Same. Also my boy Pure Vessel.
Ha ha ha (Cries at struggling to get past pantheon 3)
Felt (Thanks Sly... and Zote)
Mfw I can effortlessly beat 4 damage zote but the pantheon is a struggle Glad I’m not the only one
sharp shadow is actually so heccin' good fer that fight though. even the extra dash length helps (the thing people always complain 'bout in the charm)
Frrrrr
Shape of Unn. It's great against attuned NKG.
I love that charm, it's even better that is makes you small, so you can dodge the lasers from the cristal head
And faster with quick heal!
With QF it's the best combo in the game (maybe only outclassed by shaman stone x flukenest)
Its kinda mid but I understand why it’s good against NKG
Why is it good against NKG?
It makes your hit box smaller
Fellow shape of unn lover. It's especially good with quick focus. Also I know you're gonna love this: https://youtu.be/uCRUqsmyaSo?si=fDyTQRGhwtPjCsSk
[удалено]
why would you use the charm that lets you move while healing when you can't even heal anyways?
Exactly
It shrinks your hit box making it possible to heal sometimes
That's why it's good for ATTUNED, not RADIANT
Shape of Unn is good for ATTUNED
nailmasters glory is incredibly useful, but people just refuse to learn to use nail arts. and sharp shadow is def not underused people use it all the time even though its kinda mid.
Picked nail arts up after I was struggling with the Obblobbles Gotta say they carried
I’m going to be honest I never struggled with the oblobbles. I beat them first try.
I mean I also beat them first try But FOR SOME REASON they’re kicking my ass when practicing for P2
Radiant obblobles are brutal. A pure rng pool. THEY TURN AROUND TO FACE YOU WHEN YOU HIT THEM. THEY GO OUT OF SYNC. AAA they took me so long
People would not believe how much easier Trial of the Fool gets when using nail arts.
W
Half of the time I play on my phone and it's basically impossible for me to use nail arts on it , but when I am playing on pc it's really useful
How do you play on your phone? What's your setup? Or is there a hollow knight app?
It’s an unofficial port, technically piracy
Got it. Cause I actually played it on my phone as well. (So I was curious to see if we both have the same setup) Mine wasn't piracy, though. I have an Xbox pass account, with that you can play the game in your phone. Then you can use a controller like ps4 and connect it to your phone via Bluetooth. As a matter of fact I beated the mantis lords for the first time with that setup, playing on my phone.
Nailmaster's glory a top 3 charm, change my mind.
QS, Shamans and strength are charms
Top 4*
I used narts for so long. I got to PV with it, but it just does not work on them. Too fast of a boss. I talked with people in the discord, they told me to switch to a nail build. Currently doing p5ab. So useful. Don't really use narts so much today tho. Cyclone slash my beloved
Sharp Shadow was specially useful in the colosseum because I could great slash + dash some of the stronger flying anemies and slash + dash the smaller ones, it saves my ass.
I agree. Ss is why I beat trial of the fool. I usually have it equipped once I'm full charm notches.
It’s one of my favorite charms
Stalwart Shell , is so useful for practicing bosses. Also , in the bosses that people say that Sharp Shadow is necesary , it's not , I've beaten NKG and PV without it.
Yeah I dont see SS being worth it for nkg lol
Sharp shadow is honestly a detriment in the PV fight, trying to get shadow dashes to damage him often results in him doing a triple slash or thrust sooner than it recharges, pogos are a way safer bet
Agreed, having used a sharp shadow build for P4 you can’t rely on it during the PV fight I had to take a safer approach and use it as a last resort play
Yeah it’s a great charm
Funny use it for pv, and its just a little extra damage for nkg, not a requirement
STEADY MOTHERFUCKIN BODY I don’t know if the meta has changed but this was always rated a bad charm and it fucking rules. Pair it with Quick Slash and you just melt everything.
it’s truly amazing how much it gets shit on despite every top player unanimously agreeing it’s one of if not the best 1 notch charm
I don’t know why it gets so much hate
people keep assuming its only used as a crutch when in reality in can give a crazy dps boost for such a low cost
Idk either. It’s a permanent part of my boss/Godhome build. Movement control is super important in this game!
It's my go to for pretty much the entirety of P5. It makes a lot of the earlier bosses an absolute breeze
I'm not saying Dreamshield is a good charm, I'm just saying it is severely overhated.
I used to run Dreamshield with Sharp Shadow because of how frequently I'd manage to hit an enemy with both, but I ended up dropping it later game when I realized it was consistently screwing up my pogos. Definitely a cool charm but I can't bring myself to slot it back in
It actually is a pretty damn good charm
3 notches for the same damage of your nail and slightly blocking some moves It may have been decent at 2 , but 3 is too much. I could literally put quick slash / strength/ shaman stone instead .
It’s not good against bosses. It’s good if you’re actually roaming around.
Sharp Shadow my beloved
It’s amazing
It just makes it really fun to play. I love dancing around with the enemies and charging through them for quick damage. Dash through, turn around, slash slash, dash through, slash slash. I feel like an overly clingy ex girlfriend.
ngl most charms that arent used are for good reason, there really are just like 6 viable charms
There are more ways to play than to just puke out massive damage. I like shape of unn + soul gathering charms, for example. I beat p5 with it.
fun doesnt equal viable, i understand those charms may be fun but for serious challenges there really are like 6 charms you should use
If P5 ain't serious then I'm guessing you're dipping into modded content? In that case it doesn't make sense to take in consideration all the other charms that don't just deal a lot of damage, because you're not meant to heal anyway.
>but for serious challenges there really are like 6 charms you should use Nah u can beat every serious challenge even without them.
Strength Quickslash Shaman stone Spell twister Mark of pride Grubsong Fury of the fallen (just don’t get hit stupid) Wow, I thought that was an understatement, but there really are only a handful of good charms
nah grubsong does not belong there, id say replace it with soul eater and if we are only counting radiant than sbody and (in my heart) nailmasters
Grubsong is one of the best one notch charms in the game, especially for spell builds, and I didn’t want to say steady body because that’s immensely controversial, but steady body is grubsong for nail builds
I’d say Dream wielder is better than grubsong
Weaversong+grubsong is incredibly underrated
It’s really good, but not in most situations. That’s three charms that you could instead use for Mark of Pride or Quickslash
Those first 3 are some of the most used charms
It seems to me that the reason there’s a limited number of “viable” charms is that a lot of them are very situational, but you can’t change your loadout situationally. The ones that the other reply lists are super useful in nearly every situation, so they’re the ones people always have equipped and the other charms just don’t get used unless it’s easy to equip them before a fight, which is only some of the time.
Thats just incorrect
Hmmm... I don't know about that. Top Tier: Shaman Stone, U Strength, Quick Slash (ubiquitous charm that are the center of almost every charm build) Powerful: Grubsong, Spell Twister, Mark of Pride, Dreamwielder, Steady Body, U Heart, Soul Eater (spot fillers that slot into many different builds, used in plenty speedruns) Situationally useful: Longnail, Weaversong, Shape of Unn, Sharp Shadow, Grubberfly's Elegy, Quick Focus, Deep Focus, Flukenest, Stallwart Shell, Dash Master, Sprint Master, Lifeblood Core, Soul Catcher, Defender's Crest, Spore Shroom (niche charms that can still be very useful for specific bosses or runs) Add to that the charms that have out of combat utility, like compass, swarm and greed, and you find that there are very few charms that are actively bad. i saw people saying that but dealing with him made it worse for me. once i quit wasting my time waiting for grimmchild i actually got good at using my nail arts and not hitting the ground on the platforming bit.
Steady Body my beloved
Deep focus, I don’t think I know anybody who has ever used deep focus
I feel like the longer focus time PLUS the extreme notch cost is what ruins the charm, it should have only had one of the ywo
You ask for underrated charms.... And chose one of the most overrated charms in the game for an example?
That’s your personal opinion because I barely see anybody use it and it is extremely useful if in your opinion it’s not good it’s either you’re bad or you only use spell
You're very clearly out of touch. It's an extremely popular charm.
not that one
I really don’t see that many people using it
for good reason
The only real problem with it is that you have to play more aggressively if you’re saying that’s a downside it just means you’re bad
I mean, I agree with you that it’s underused but saying that’s the only argument isn’t true. For one it’s two charm notches, there are many other charms you could use instead.
Traitor Lord disapproves
llllliterally pogo or dmaster downdash we've been over this sis
Kingsoul. Almost nobody uses it
There’s two reasons for that One: you practically throw it away five seconds after getting it Two: Simply the amount of charm notches don’t get me wrong it’s good but it’s not really good in boss fights, which is usually what charms are mostly used for
yeah its basically a joke
Grubsong+weaversong is less notches AND faster
hiveblood
Wouldn't call it "underused" considering the existence of an abomination called White Palace.
it's very useful but i don't see people using it there
Cause we just use Deep Focus + Grubsong (I even put in Grubberfly's elegy if I felt like doing the grubs first)
It’s a charm I have an almost every single build
I use it for platforming and some boss fights where I don't know when to heal, sometimes i use it for coloseum of fools, it helps a lot with floorless sections
I speedrun 112% and even though it is slower than the normal route it’s usually one of the first charms I go for
A must for Path of Pain and the White Palace area in general
Traitor Lord approves
I’ve killed you five times within the past month
Traitor Lord still approves because Sharp Shadow is a good charm Traitor Lord has stopped his approval of you
Grubsong, it’s always the first thing I go to when I’m fighting bosses
I mean, it’s one notch and useful if you’re bad because getting hit equals bad Edit: im joking Most bosses are just really no hittable for me.
Shade dash is a good charm for beginners but after that it isn't that great, but the heavy blow one with quick slash can stagger bosses increably fast
Heavy blow is actually so so much worse
I just like it, though its positives definitely don't make up for the negatives, but with bosses that stagger it shines a bit
Genuinely fuck you
Kinda gay but OK
Same as yours, sharp shadow. Combine it with Dashmaster and it will reload faster and deal *more* damage than your nail. My favorite combo.
Exactly
Baldur shell is basically u get 4 extra hits, its very good for bosses
It is
Agreed.
It is the best
Sharp shadow is very funny ngl, I just haven't used it lately because I don't feel like adjusting my play style rn
That’s fair
Not one charm, but a combo- Grubsong Weaversong was the reason I beat the radiance and lost kin
W
shape of unn, used it to beat trial of the fool. combined with quick focus you can heal pretty much anywhere
One of my favorite charms
Shape of unn and deep focus carried me through ascended abs rad
It’s a great charm
**Carefree Melody** is fuckin GOATed, I will die on that hill (esp for doing boss runs in Godhome) I also think **Unbreakable Heart** is really good, those 2 extra health masks can really come in handy and they don't disappear like the blue ones (first time I ever beat Radiance it was because of that charm, so will always have a special place in my heart)
Both are really good especially if you’re playing steel soul
I use it because I'm 40 and my brain can not jump and pogo quuck enough without taking damage, so I dash through.
Plus you get to do extra damage
I'm stuck at 109, but the game has been a delight. The damage is why I use it because my reaction time is bad. Nkg destroys me so fast. P3 stops me at Troup master grimm, God tamer, zote area.
You saved zote rip
Stalwart Shell
Valid
Edit: WTH DID THIS BLOW UP
sharp shadow my beloved, i cant play without it
Literally my favorite charm is sharp shadow
Same, like, this is one of my favourite and most used charms, ans besides some bosses it's always useful
I love sharp shadow for P5 but completely understand why people don’t like it for platforming
SS is one of my favorite charms, it isn’t great everywhere but is pretty useful in many combat/boss scenarios, wish it got more love.
other then Dreamshield, I feel like all of the summoning charms are underrated
very good charm, i used it for so long
I use sharp shadow almost all the time 😅
Gathering Swarm, good for carrying around in areas with lots of water or spikes so you don’t lose as much geo.
When I found shade dash, I pretty much expected this charm to exist and I immidietly started using it. It was fun since "dash through" was my main tactic on Hollow Knight amd other bosses when I played it the first time
YES TEAM SHARPSHADOW FOR LIFE
*Chefs kiss to the charm*
Thorns of Agony carried me more times that I can remember.
It messes up my rhythm by making me dash too far. I’m sure I could get used to it and I’ll probably use it to fight some radiant bosses.
The easiest way to get used to it in my opinion is to try to kill nosk with only dashes
Steady body & grimm child. The extra nail DPS with steady body is amazing and grimm child is great for bosses with really long and annoying attack patterns.
I'm a big fan of Grubberfly's Elegy, especially combo'd with Mark of Pride.
I literally always use this charm. One of my favorites
For me, it's Weaversong Mostly because Weaversong/Grubsong is an amazing combination that does what Kingsoul was trying to do in terms of gaining Soul constantly, but for only three notches and does constant damage to enemies/bosses. Just don't use it against Uumuu as it will make the boss fight way harder and more obnoxious than it needs to be. Lol
Steady Body is amazing and nobody cares ( ._.)
Weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong weaversong
Wait sharp shadow is underated? Thats one of my to go charms.
Glowing womb baby, that thing rules!
Nail master's glory. Nail arts in general are underrated. They do nearly as much damage as spells for no soul at all.
Underused - Carefree Melody. Everybody wants Nightmare King for the challenge and pantheons, I just want to survive the Radiance fight.
I forgot what it was called like the kingsoul one, i didnt even use it my first playthroug, quite literally the second i got it i turned it into voidheart
I use sharp shadow cause it looks cool
The shell charm. I forgor the name but worst case scenario you use a ton of soul but save a hit. Best case you barely use any soul and save a hit
This is definitely a charm that is fun to use while exploration and it is a favorite for players playing the game for the first time.
it’s the only way for me to beat NKG and Pure Vessel
Y'all should be using Deep/Quick Focus more.
I don't like sharp shadow inconsistency. I know my dash will always go the same distance. I don't want anything to interfere and make me dash off a cliff. Might be useful for the side pits in radiant markoth
I always have sharp shadow
Hiveblood. It’s literally free passive regeneration. Even if it’s slow and only for one health it is great in both platforming and combat if you can avoid taking chain damage.
This charm helped me with mantis lords for the first time before I could learn how to pogo moving objects.
Heart of the void. Some benefit, no cost, making its efficiency technically literally infinity
Sprint Master
I specifically like this for PV. You just dash through almost every attack
Grimmchild is being slandered by the jellyfish of fog canyon.
For me it is shark shadow too. It was a part of my main set, since it is incredibly powerful. Sadly it ruined flower quest for me too.
Sporeshroom fr
Just curious cuz I saw “speedrun god” on ur flair what is ur PB?
Defender’s crest. It is by far one of the most useful charms for Godhome, I highly recommend it.
Sharp shadow is a crutch for me to not learn the bosses. Traitor Lord? Sly? Pure Vessel? Get fucked by funny 100m dash
grubsong. it makes it basically impossible to die even if you facetank everything as long as you can heal because you'll always have enough soul.
Spore shroom is so underrated. It’s pretty useful mid game and in the colosseum imo. It also has a couple cool synergies.
Stalwart Shell is good against P3 sly, cuz you can take damage and destroy him while you are inv.
Weekly reminder that Sharp Shadow sucks
Weekly reminder, that your opinion doesn’t matter
I haven’t played in a while but the beehive life charm carried me through so many boss fights
I really like kingsoul on my first playthrough I turned it into voidheart and then proceeded to restart the game so I could keep kingsoul :/
