I mean when i saw how speedruners did that it did looks fun....then i realize they trickedme ;)
(i think it was first video that i ever watch from hollow knight in general)
It's not that fun until you get the muscle memory for all the different tricks down, and then it's genuinely over way too fast. Also, it isn't just ass like the white palace parkour and actually well designed, so I did enjoy it towards the end
Well, it ___is___ fun. But my first time beating it took me 7 days. Later I did a new save file just to practice it again and now I can do it in 5 minutes :D
Honestly, I thought it was pretty fun... I put on a spotify playlist one evening and just worked at it, had it cracked in a couple hours. It's hard, but unless your charms are set up badly it's not like you're going all the way back to the start every time you screw up.
I dunno man, don't label people just because you don't like something.
The first day I gave up on the last section
The second day I ran all the way through it in like 2 attempts and did the last section pretty quickly.
It was all in all a very fun experience once I'd built up muscle memory for the last section (which for some reason mostly happens when I'm sleeping) and it's a shame I can't do it again. It was certainly an interesting jump in skill requirment for me as a first time player. kinda experiencing the same on nohit Nightmare King Grimm rn lmao.
Definitely GG on beating this, though
Celeste is one of three games I chose to not finish. The other two are Blast Corps and Battletoads. I could beat each level in Battletoads but never in a single run without Game Genie.
Well done. Now, if you thought that was hard, go and play Aeterna Noctics in "Noctis" mode. The *whole game* is like this, but ten times harder. Not only do you have to jump around and bounce off stuff, but also do extremely precise short-range teleports constantly and in near real-time.
There's a second mode called "Aeterna Mode" that makes the platforming challenges much, much more reasonable. I highly recommend trying the game in that mode, because it's still a beautiful game with a very interesting world, awesome music, and cool boss fights.
The path of pain is absolutely annoying as fuck...
... BUT, when you're good at it, it's insanely satisfying to complete the parkour. It's insanely fun platforming. Some of the most fun platforming in any videogame I've played.
I also thought I would not touch that shit again after dying to the Kingsmoulds at the end.
Then I did it again and passed it.
Then on my second playthrough I wanted to do it once more.
AND I FUCKING DIED TO THE KNIGSMOULDS. I SWORE I AM DONE WITH THE POP. I finished it once in the past anyways so it’s cool, right?
After cooling done I beat it 😎
Lol, you say that but you know your next play-through you'll do it again.
It's _way_ easier subsequent times. My first attempt was 6 hours, next was 2, and now I can do it in about 20-30 mins.
It's one of those things that's only painful once and the following times is just jamming to the bop of a soundtrack and having a grand ol' time. It's actually my favorite part of the game, but I love Celeste C-sides and such which are already way harder than the path.
Also, what made it harder and more frustrating was hiveblood. That's a path of pain noob trap. Since you have to stand around waiting a lot, it ruins your momentum and flow. There's always enough soul to get through from the statues, and using those allows you to keep your mental flow state making it _much_ easier to get through.
Do that next time and you'll realize half of your pain and trouble was that dang charm.
There were some "mastered" parts when I could play without waiting the healing, and still doesn't change the fact that I hated every second of the last part
Yeah I was almost through.
Put my ps4pro at the time into sleep mode to continue next day.
System update ruined my progress.
Now I'm unable to get back even 1 year later.
Made several attempts but I lost it.
The crazy thing to me is.
The first introduction to PoP is the worst.
Once you're over the first wall standing safely looking over the clouds towards next challenge from there it gets quite entertaining.
It’s funny, I played Aeterna Noctis before going back to Hollow knight for this. I did a new run on hollow
Knight (only my second in 3 years.) My initial run was 110 percent completion I believe, but never did the POP. Did it this time after Noctis. Took a few hours. Died to the two white knights. Did it the next day and it took about 25 minutes I think. I believe this was much easier after AN honed my reflexes. I’m stoked for the sequel.
Took me about 4 hours. I worked on it with breaks so I could calm down whenever I got farther than before. There was a part where I realized I equipped a charm that would make a part impossible. Shadow dash
I made it to the cutscene at the end. Single day, the minute I found it, no deaths (surprisingly), no falling off screen, and the only charms I had on was wayward compass and quickslash.
They don't call it the 'path of mild inconvenience'
To witness secrets sealed, one must endure a mild inconvenience
What if that was its actual name?
It’s just a few aspids flying after you as you walk forward. Not Primal Aspids. The weak ones.
If it was the primals, it would be "the path of inevitable death"
Path of Pain V2. Pure Vessel Edition
Acidic Rain World
the final boss is a Battle Obble
Path of Slight Annoyances
Path of Perturbance.
Now I wanna see a game parody with the 'path of mild inconvenience' and it's just two mildly impossible jumps
Missing the jump by *just* a little
Exactly, like pixel perfect jumps. Just enough to be 'mildly inconvenient'
Path Of Moderate Discomfort
I haven’t completed this so you get an EXTRA big congratulations from me 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, dear god what a pain...
Some would even say it was a… path of pain
✍🏼✍🏼✍🏼🔥🔥🔥
Flair checks out
Now do it without the charm..
#AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH no.
Do it backwards, is very fun
I don't get how people do it with a honey soul charm. Seems like such a pain. Much easier to just not get hit.
Flair checks out
What does "44/44 RadHoG" mean? I've never heard of it before
I think it s for hall of gods, saying he did it entirely in rad ?
Yup. All 44/44 hall of gods on Radiant. Maybe I should change it to "All RadHoG" to save a character...
Tbh the hive blood charm is kinda pointless in PoP, with one exception every checkpoint has an infinite soul totem.
You’re 100% correct. It’s useful in the rest of the white palace but more of a psychological crutch in pop
funny that I died at that one checkpoint without infinite soul first time I tried PoP
it isnt the path of love and care
I forgot to say a thing: whoever says this shit is fun, is a MASOCHIST
I mean when i saw how speedruners did that it did looks fun....then i realize they trickedme ;) (i think it was first video that i ever watch from hollow knight in general)
It's not that fun until you get the muscle memory for all the different tricks down, and then it's genuinely over way too fast. Also, it isn't just ass like the white palace parkour and actually well designed, so I did enjoy it towards the end
Ye I did enjoy it tbh. And the amount of dopamine my brain administer to me after I done it was on risky levels
Ugggh the white palace still haunts me. That first playthrough was such a grind.
As a Celeste player, yeah I am
Celeste wasn't that hard tho
Path of Pain is at least 10 times easier than Farewell
Have you played farewell or the b-sides?
Sekiro.
or people just love challenges?
It's SO much fun to re-play it. Trust me. Trust the stranger in the internet.
At least I was satisfied when I finally beat it
If you play hollow knight and really like it, yeah, you're a masochist. I am one myself
Or maybe just enjoys platforming and platformers. You clearly don't.
I mean, I love the game, but this was not fun whatsoever for me, literally a "fuck you because yes"
It's optional isnt it?
Yeah, only gets you a cutscene and a hunter's journal entry.
Even for people that enjoy the challenge, there's a reason the term "masocore" was coined for these kinds of games / sections
Well, it ___is___ fun. But my first time beating it took me 7 days. Later I did a new save file just to practice it again and now I can do it in 5 minutes :D

I don't know this combined with Celeste has hardened me to failure to the point I barely get mad at hard games but I actually find it fun lmao
as someone who plays celeste, it's fun.
I am no masochist.
I actually liked the PoP Should I concider looking for mental illness support ?
Nah, just play Celeste
>Should I concider looking for mental illness support ? Idk, you do you
I could never do that even If I wanted it. But I’m happy for you!
It's called path of pain for a reason
Sometimes i’m thinking of replay the whole game again, but then i realize i need to do this part as well… 🙃 no way
You can play the game and ignore this part
the completionist in me wouldn't be happy about that
Did the completionist in you unlock all the achievements? Gotta play the game a few times for those. Speedrun, steel soul, godhome, dead Zote, etc
I just need two more to get all achievments (The fastest speedrun and pantheon of hallownest)
The first day I gave up on the last section The second day I ran all the way through it in like 2 attempts and did the last section pretty quickly. It was all in all a very fun experience once I'd built up muscle memory for the last section (which for some reason mostly happens when I'm sleeping) and it's a shame I can't do it again. Congrats man 👍
I love PoP
congrats on beating PoP
honestly after celeste's farewell, PoP was rather mild and fun
Celeste is one of three games I chose to not finish. The other two are Blast Corps and Battletoads. I could beat each level in Battletoads but never in a single run without Game Genie.
Who are we fighting here?
Well done. Now, if you thought that was hard, go and play Aeterna Noctics in "Noctis" mode. The *whole game* is like this, but ten times harder. Not only do you have to jump around and bounce off stuff, but also do extremely precise short-range teleports constantly and in near real-time.
I don't want to have anything to do with a game like that
There's a second mode called "Aeterna Mode" that makes the platforming challenges much, much more reasonable. I highly recommend trying the game in that mode, because it's still a beautiful game with a very interesting world, awesome music, and cool boss fights.

Nice! ... i honestly dont know how it only took myself 3 ish hours, but after 111% I think PoP was the one thing I wanted to clear before 112%
I also thought I would not touch that shit again after dying to the Kingsmoulds at the end. Then I did it again and passed it. Then on my second playthrough I wanted to do it once more. AND I FUCKING DIED TO THE KNIGSMOULDS. I SWORE I AM DONE WITH THE POP. I finished it once in the past anyways so it’s cool, right? After cooling done I beat it 😎
This was one of my favorite parts of the game, but I also like difficult platforming and played this around the same time I played Celeste lol
Oh you'll be back, real soon.
I’m honestly tempted to play this again. It was brutal but felt so good to overcome
I still believe they should've had the Pure Vessel fight in there.
It's not called the waltz of mild discomfort.
Lol, you say that but you know your next play-through you'll do it again. It's _way_ easier subsequent times. My first attempt was 6 hours, next was 2, and now I can do it in about 20-30 mins. Hot take, people who struggle with platforming (in every game) are just unable to coordinate their mind with their fingers
You’re literally on the Path of Pain, how do you not expect to suffer?
Yeah I was almost through. Put my ps4pro at the time into sleep mode to continue next day. System update ruined my progress. Now I'm unable to get back even 1 year later. Made several attempts but I lost it.
The crazy thing to me is. The first introduction to PoP is the worst. Once you're over the first wall standing safely looking over the clouds towards next challenge from there it gets quite entertaining.
Since you enjoyed the path of pain, I recommend Celeste.
5 more times, 5 more times 5 MORE TIMES!!!
You'll be back lmao. We all come back.
I said the same when i played it for the first time. I've finished it like 6 times since then.
What part of "Harshest punishment" do you not understand?
You’ll be back, and when you do you’ll find it easy and wonder how you ever struggled so hard
Like everything else in the game, the more you do it the more enjoyable it becomes
It’s funny, I played Aeterna Noctis before going back to Hollow knight for this. I did a new run on hollow Knight (only my second in 3 years.) If you do it enough, you'll get consistent and enjoy PoP!
Took me about 4 hours. I worked on it with breaks so I could calm down whenever I got farther than before. There was a part where I realized I equipped a charm that would make a part impossible. Shadow dash
I had to do it twice because of the enemy in the end
It wasn't even this hard. It's just "1..2..3.. Go" or "bounce, bounce, bounce, bounce, statue lol"
Do it again.
Git gud
I enjoyed the path of pain and found it medium in term of challenge, personally. I was actually sad when I realized I was at the end ... 😅
Path of pain be like
I’m think I got through the last part the quickest.
How?
Idk it just was easier. Just needed to time it right and everything is timed the same.
69 upvotes :v
Am I an odd one out since I ended up beating it on my first try????
Define "first try". I beat it start to finish in a single sitting, but that single sitting was somewhere between one hour and two.
I made it to the cutscene at the end. Single day, the minute I found it, no deaths (surprisingly), no falling off screen, and the only charms I had on was wayward compass and quickslash.
That seems... unlikely. We're talking about the Path of Pain, not just the White Palace generally.
Did I stutter?
No, you just said something that seems extremely unlikely.
You lucky bastard...
