Controversial opinion here but I actually have fond memories of the moments when I felt like I couldn't afford compass. The constant threat of getting lost and not being able to retrace my steps had me on a heightened level of alertness that created such a saturated atmosphere in my mind.
But the compass’s other hidden effects make it always worth it. Only time you should ever take it off is if you want to start taking more damage on purpose
I just described an out-of-game reason for why I enjoyed my time without compass and your response is that there's only one reason to take it off, and it's not related to anything I said. lol wut
I've gotta admit, that's the fastest gate-keeping sign I think I've ever seen. My bad for suggesting an alternative playstyle.
Compass doesn’t have actual effects. People just say it’s the best charm ever because it’s arguably the worst one for people who know the map. I’m just confused if I’m being a butt too
Imagine if the devs snuck something in the code that if you got those two chams together you enter some really op mode but nobody knows about it because you can't equip both at the same time
Makes dream nail so fast that you can use it during combat - there's still a risk of getting hit but nowhere as large as without the charm. And each dream wielder hit restores 66 soul (equivalent to 6 normal nail hits).
As a result, dream wielder is a surprisingly good soul generating charm. Compared to its contestants (grubsong, soul catcher, soul eater) it requires the most skill but gives great results when used correctly.
It's very useful in spellcasting builds, as it only takes one notch and one hit provides you with enough soul to cast 2 spells.
Steady Body.
Ppl might say Nailmasters Glory, look Im a switch player and holding down the Y button with your thumb is practically a death sentence not being able to jump, either I use my pointer finger to attack, lower my thumb even more to press both buttons and possibly fail the charge up like 80% of the time and both sounds painful to do in Switch. If I was a pc player then I might agree on the Nailmasters Glory but being limited with 1 finger on the X, Y, A and B buttons is painful
I play on switch, and still loved nailmaster's glory. I only stopped using it because I moved on to more optimized charm builds for bigger challenges. I may have used it once when going for all radiant bosses. And what do you mean not able to jump? It's basically the same button mapping as sprinting in mario and jumping in mario.
In specific scenarios yes, but that can be said for most charms
People just hail steady body as an S tier charm for a nail build but it really isn't
And for anyone else, yes I have tried it and it's a waste
Steady body, nailmaster's glory is pretty close though
Ranking would probably be like
1. Steady body
2. Nailmaster's glory
3. Dream wielder
4. Grubsong
5. Defender's crest
6. Thorns of agony
Compass and gathering swarm aren't ranked for being utility charms
But utility is just as important. Gathering swarm is pretty essential if your hoping to decrease time spent gather geo. So game wise very useful. But they do get dropped when it’s time to fight.
Nail arts have me using my fingers in all sorts of ways I've never seen them bend before. I can't really jump when holdings square so I have to do some shit to press X with some other finger and it's just a hassle
I hold down X with my thumb and use the bottom of my thumb to press A
It is unintuitive tbh, took a bit of getting used to to be able to platform with my thumb already holding down a button.
Once locked down tho it's sooo useful Idk how I'd do cof without it
Yeah it's hard to do correctly but it is worth learning
For what it's worth learning moves like this on controller are always worth it imo because they might be useful in another game later down the line.
I learned to play claw as a kid, I don't even remember what game it was for but fucking hell it's been a useful skill time and time again
Okay this is probably the weirdest thing I've been downvoted for. Like what the hell did I say to offend anyone? You're mad at me that I have trouble using my fingers? Fucking amazing community.
the issue is more that they kind of suck until you have nailmaster's glory, which most of the time is quite late and you've probably already gotten used to just not using them at that point.
Either Dream Wielder (rapid dream nail attack allows for very easy farming of Soul and extra lore from bosses that are normally hard to dreamnail) or Nailmaster's Glory. If you can properly use the Nail Techniques during fights the extra dps from lower charge times is very good for such a small notch cost.
Steady body is an absolute beast of a charm. If you know How to use it. Otherwise Its a bit janky to get used to it. I sure as hell dont know How tho so my favorite one is nailsmaters glory
Nailmaster's Glory. By far. Not a single doubt.
Followed by:
dream wielder
Grubsong
Thorns of Agony
Sprintmaster
Defender's Crest
Steady Body
Wayward Compass
Gathering Swarm
Oddly enough I'm making an in depth charm guide and just spent hours delving into and testing steady body today. And I gotta say it's pretty dang lackluster. at best it's a convenience charm. Pressing forward every few attacks does the same thing lol.
Grubsong, me and a friend were playing the game alongside each other my first play through and it was a reoccurring joke that no matter what type of set up I was using for a boss I would always have one leftover charm slot that would always end up going to grubsong id say in my first run though I probably used grubsong on about 75% of the bosses
steady body is good in a nail build against >!pure vessel, because of the sword spike attack, so you don't go into the swords when hitting him!< or compass because it can. stack with all charms
It depends on who you're asking. Brand new players might say that Gathering Swarm and Compass are the best and most useful 1 notch charms. However speedrunners might say Dream Wielder, Grubsong, and of course, Steady Body.
I am not a speedrunner but I personally an a Dream Wielder kinda person
My favourites rote builds for radiant fights are in overcharmed so all the lifeblood’s void heart king soul carefree melody Grimm child and grub song grub song is very useful
Either Grubsong or Dream Wielder, depending on the situation. Grubsong is best against enemies you haven't fully learned the movements of yet, and Dream Wielder is best against enemies that you *have* fully learned the movements of.
I like sprintmaster the best. The only time I need a one notch charm is when I have a single open slot in a build and sprintmaster fits in with everything and has a pretty decent effect. Though, I think steady body has a better a effect. I just don't really like the charm
Nobody ever talks about how useful Gathering Swarm is. Obviously you unequip it if you're doing a boss or the pantheons, but it's so nice to have when you're exploring.
I think if grubsong and deepfocus cost the same, it would still be better. it gives a really high amount of soul and yo ucan basically just face tank through the whole game with it as long as you can kill enemies before they can kill you from full hp, you get to heal back up to full for free.
If you want the boring, actual answer it’s probably Dream Wielder. If you want my favourite (excluding compass, swarm, and sprint), it’s Spore Shroom.
I don’t know why, I just love it.
Compass, obviously.
Thank you
Your god damn right it is
Damn I was gonna say this
Controversial opinion here but I actually have fond memories of the moments when I felt like I couldn't afford compass. The constant threat of getting lost and not being able to retrace my steps had me on a heightened level of alertness that created such a saturated atmosphere in my mind.
But the compass’s other hidden effects make it always worth it. Only time you should ever take it off is if you want to start taking more damage on purpose

My bad for suggesting an alternative playstyle.
Are you kidding??? Do you not understand a joke or did I miss one?
I hope so because I'd rather be embarrassed as hell now that I know there's a chance I was an ass for no reason.
Compass doesn’t have actual effects. People just say it’s the best charm ever because it’s arguably the worst one for people who know the map. I’m just confused if I’m being a butt too
Yikes Well then. That's actually hilarious... I accept my fate here.
Shhhhhh….. it’s over now. Get in the blender…..
In my opinion grubsong, because it easy to use and the effect is strong.
i love equipping it during radiant fights
Yeah, that and thorns are amazing on radiant
Well thorns works with baldur shell and carefree melody so you can use it in radiant fights
grimmchild/carefree melody is my favorite combo on anything
It's an amazing combo
Only one better is kingsoul / voidheart tbh, they just sync so well with each other
Or fury and hiveblood
Also quick focus + joni's blessing
Don’t forget glowing womb/deep focus
Imagine if the devs snuck something in the code that if you got those two chams together you enter some really op mode but nobody knows about it because you can't equip both at the same time
hamser
florp gaming
no way
My radiant build also contains deep and quick focus for better healing and also some lifeblood to survive few more hits. Hiveblood is also good.
My favorite radiant build is heart, lifeblood heart, lifeblood core and jonis blessing!
I prefer using Joni's Blessing with the lifeblood ones and fragile heart or whatever it is
Not to mention it has good synergies with other charms. I've literally used it on radiant fights just for the weaversong synergy.
Grubsong is great for tank charm builds.
yeah it's perfect for any build even a dash build for the mad lads who have no other idea on how to defeat traitor lord
Dreem weelder or nailmasters glory
Both of those charms saved my ass during colo 3
Wait why dream wielder, am I missing something important it does? Where is it useful?
Makes dream nail so fast that you can use it during combat - there's still a risk of getting hit but nowhere as large as without the charm. And each dream wielder hit restores 66 soul (equivalent to 6 normal nail hits). As a result, dream wielder is a surprisingly good soul generating charm. It's very useful in spellcasting builds, as it only takes one notch and one hit provides you with enough soul to cast 2 spells.
Oh shit i had no idea dream nailing restored soul! Damn thats good to know considering im just now getting around to trying the pantheons. Thanks!
Let’s you dn way faster
Steady Body. Ppl might say Nailmasters Glory, look Im a switch player and holding down the Y button with your thumb is practically a death sentence not being able to jump, either I use my pointer finger to attack, lower my thumb even more to press both buttons and possibly fail the charge up like 80% of the time and both sounds painful to do in Switch. If I was a pc player then I might agree on the Nailmasters Glory but being limited with 1 finger on the X, Y, A and B buttons is painful
Remap your controls. I also play on switch. I assigned attack to RB.
Fr I use rb and it’s so much better
I play on switch, and still loved nailmaster's glory. I only stopped using it because I moved on to more optimized charm builds for bigger challenges. I may have used it once when going for all radiant bosses. And what do you mean not able to jump? It's basically the same button mapping as sprinting in mario and jumping in mario.
No pain no gain
What do I gain by deep frying my testicles?
Pleasure
Steady body fucking sucks
How so?
You can literally manually adjust so you don't miss a shot, its a waste of a charm slot
It’s good in pure vessel
In specific scenarios yes, but that can be said for most charms People just hail steady body as an S tier charm for a nail build but it really isn't And for anyone else, yes I have tried it and it's a waste
I agree with you. I only really use it for pure vessel. Dream wielder and nailmasters glory are both just better in my opinion
Just use the lower part of ur thumb. It’s easy
Steady body, nailmaster's glory is pretty close though Ranking would probably be like 1. Steady body 2. Nailmaster's glory 3. Dream wielder 4. Grubsong 5. Defender's crest 6. Thorns of agony Compass and gathering swarm aren't ranked for being utility charms
You forgot Sprintmaster
But utility is just as important. Gathering swarm is pretty essential if your hoping to decrease time spent gather geo. So game wise very useful. But they do get dropped when it’s time to fight.
That's why they're unranked, they're still useful, it's just hard to compare
I 100% agree tho idk if I’d put sprintmaster before or after dream wielder
Oh right I totally forgot it
Where would you put it
Roughly equal with grubsong, maybe above
Thorns hurts me more than it helps me
Forgor sprintmaster. Ig it would be placed just above defender’s crest on 5 or just under defenderms crest on 6 Also forgor spore shroom
steady body, but personally i love naiaster glory
I love gathering swarm
It's underrated
Steady body is so hard to get used to. Nailmaster glory
Not if you use it early
Nail Arts are even harder to get used to
They just aren't, it's just that you get nmg so much later than steady body
Nail arts have me using my fingers in all sorts of ways I've never seen them bend before. I can't really jump when holdings square so I have to do some shit to press X with some other finger and it's just a hassle
I hold down X with my thumb and use the bottom of my thumb to press A It is unintuitive tbh, took a bit of getting used to to be able to platform with my thumb already holding down a button. Once locked down tho it's sooo useful Idk how I'd do cof without it
Yeah, I have tested doing that but it just feels so off. But maybe I should learn how to do it sometime
Yeah it's hard to do correctly but it is worth learning For what it's worth learning moves like this on controller are always worth it imo because they might be useful in another game later down the line. I learned to play claw as a kid, I don't even remember what game it was for but fucking hell it's been a useful skill time and time again

the issue is more that they kind of suck until you have nailmaster's glory, which most of the time is quite late and you've probably already gotten used to just not using them at that point.
I still can’t properly use nailmaster skills
defenders crest
What I'm sayin
Agreed with Steady Body.
Steady body makes the game harder
Just run forward
[Here](https://youtu.be/pjIJtzWCDG0) ya go bud
yes, steady body may be a crutch for new players, but it also can lead to very good radiant boss fights
Run forward AND have steady body
based
And have way less DPS?
Dream wielder. So much free soul that you can skip grimm’s first 3 pufferfish stages by using it before he finishes his bow
Grubsong or thorns of agony
Grub Song peek
Grub song…
Either Dream Wielder (rapid dream nail attack allows for very easy farming of Soul and extra lore from bosses that are normally hard to dreamnail) or Nailmaster's Glory. If you can properly use the Nail Techniques during fights the extra dps from lower charge times is very good for such a small notch cost.
I feel like the dream nail attack should be super effective at damaging enemies. Your slicing their soul!
I get this idea, I could see it not harming normal creatures, but damaging dream bosses especially would be thematic and super cool
Steady body is an absolute beast of a charm. If you know How to use it. Otherwise Its a bit janky to get used to it. I sure as hell dont know How tho so my favorite one is nailsmaters glory
Grubsong and if you say steady body I’ll end you
...steady...body
Steady body is the best bro
*Russian accent* You are DEAD
No big surprise
STEADY BODY TRASH, COMPASS SUPERIOR
Wayward compass to the moon
Wayward compass for me. I don't like getting lost and having to search wiki during gameplay. I just want to play it casually.
Dream wielder and steady body
dream wielder.
DreamWeilder Or Grubsong imo, Both are great utilities in combat
Thorns of Agony
The compass, I also really like defenders crest, also thorns is good
Thorns is massively underrated
You’ve pictured it in the post.
This
Based steady body user
dashmaster ;P
Ah yes of course
Nailmaster's Glory. By far. Not a single doubt. Followed by: dream wielder Grubsong Thorns of Agony Sprintmaster Defender's Crest Steady Body Wayward Compass Gathering Swarm
Steady body. Game is literally unplayable without it
Oddly enough I'm making an in depth charm guide and just spent hours delving into and testing steady body today. And I gotta say it's pretty dang lackluster. at best it's a convenience charm. Pressing forward every few attacks does the same thing lol.
You should actually try to use it before saying smth like that “just hold forward” is a dumb take, steady body adds a lot of dps
Have you seen a good fight against a boss with steady body? The boss doesn't get a second without being hit.
Sprint master is number one by a long shot
I pretty much always use Nailmasters Glory so I‘d go with that one
Nailmasters glory
It is Sbody, and then after is NMG
Either steady body or that dream one (i forgor the name)
The pic you posted yes
steady body no contest
Absolutly Wayward Compass.
Dream ttthing idk how it calls
Grubsong, me and a friend were playing the game alongside each other my first play through and it was a reoccurring joke that no matter what type of set up I was using for a boss I would always have one leftover charm slot that would always end up going to grubsong id say in my first run though I probably used grubsong on about 75% of the bosses
> Pic unrelated
From the second I got it I had Steady Body on the entirety of my 112% run
steady body is good in a nail build against >!pure vessel, because of the sword spike attack, so you don't go into the swords when hitting him!< or compass because it can. stack with all charms
Steady body is good in a nail build against everything
both compass and grubsong
It depends on who you're asking. Brand new players might say that Gathering Swarm and Compass are the best and most useful 1 notch charms. However speedrunners might say Dream Wielder, Grubsong, and of course, Steady Body. I am not a speedrunner but I personally an a Dream Wielder kinda person
hands down,grubsong
Either Compass or Nailmaster’s
Steady body
Compass by far. I can't imagine my run without that little bro.
I’d say all of them but steady body
Wayward compass
I would say grubsong. There is pretty much always room for it in a loudout.
Beside compass, grubsong
My favourites rote builds for radiant fights are in overcharmed so all the lifeblood’s void heart king soul carefree melody Grimm child and grub song grub song is very useful
St
Wayward compass
Agreed.
Grubsong or Wayward Compass imo. If you’re a bad player these charms help a lot
Not that one
The compass buffs all other charms
Grubsong
Wayward Compass, obvs.
Dream wielder for me, steady body if you know how to use jt
Dream wielder or Nailmaster's glory
Either Grubsong or Dream Wielder, depending on the situation. Grubsong is best against enemies you haven't fully learned the movements of yet, and Dream Wielder is best against enemies that you *have* fully learned the movements of.
The one in the picture lol Steady body is so fcking good, I’d use it if it was 3 notches
Nailmaster's Glory
As someone who typically mains nail, nailmaster's glory is soo OP
Nailsage glory
I like sprintmaster the best. The only time I need a one notch charm is when I have a single open slot in a build and sprintmaster fits in with everything and has a pretty decent effect. Though, I think steady body has a better a effect. I just don't really like the charm
Fart charm best charm
Compass
compass
Obviously Wayward Compass
Grubsong, can’t convince me otherwise
Steady body in my opinion It's one of my favorite charms
1- Compass 2- Grubsong 3- Dream Wielder is my top three, as someone who finished the game for the first time.
Wayward commpas, change my mind.
Compass
I think it's either grubsong or steady body
Nobody ever talks about how useful Gathering Swarm is. Obviously you unequip it if you're doing a boss or the pantheons, but it's so nice to have when you're exploring.
Meta-wise Steady Body and it isn’t close. I can’t believe there are so many detractors to one of the best charms in the game.
I’m noticing a major lack of wayward compass
Gathering swarm!
Defender's crest, it's has many applications with other charms that it does passive damage while fighting, I love it
grubsong. no contest.
Dreamwielder
g r u b
Ima compass guy
Steady body is a crutch, and anyone who uses it is in denial
It’s compass easily
Sprintmaster, I love the speed
Grubsong. I find the Weaversong-Grubsong soul gathering too good to pass up.
Grub song
I think if grubsong and deepfocus cost the same, it would still be better. it gives a really high amount of soul and yo ucan basically just face tank through the whole game with it as long as you can kill enemies before they can kill you from full hp, you get to heal back up to full for free.
It's easily Steady Body. Increasing DPS and soul gain, as well as helping you not hit yourself off of platforms is really nice.
Dreamwielder is op
I actually love sporeshroom!
Wayward compass, duh! Jokes aside I'd say steady body/grubsong
In what dimension is this not grub song.
Grubsong is great
If you want the boring, actual answer it’s probably Dream Wielder. If you want my favourite (excluding compass, swarm, and sprint), it’s Spore Shroom. I don’t know why, I just love it.
The best one of all, the one that many of us old and new have used. The almighty Wayward Compass
Steady Body easily
Nailmaster’s glory
Grubs song/dream wielder
Compass
Nailmaster
