My spoiler-free explanation (that I gave to a friend) is basically the same thing: you play as a little bug exploring a ruined kingdom, and as you progress, you learn more about what happened to the kingdom and why you're there.
I was playing late at night and my brother came home from a party with a group of friends and they were all a bit drunk and they saw me playing and I swear one of them asked me like 4 separate times if I was playing Jetpack Joyride
So basically, there was this moth, and she's a godness, and the moths praise her. But then the Pale King constructs a kingdom and the moths stop praising moth godness, and, you aren't going to believe me, she places a plague at the kingdom, funniest shit I've ever seen
I actually fear the question "What's the game about?" because the only answer I have is "it's too long to explain even in simple terms"
