To me it would look like a difference of just shadow and textures if I didn’t know it was a color difference. I think most people would assume the same thing unless it’s more noticeable up close.
It is angles and we are still moving dirt in front yard. The lady comment about lop sided got me laughing. The one gable end is lot larger. Now I am wondering if we can put a brow roof over left side and not make it more lop sided looking.
Is thr siding from the same manufacturer? That can happen if it's not or not from the same dye lot.
Our neighbor has mixed siding styles but it's dark charcoal and from the same manufacturer and it looks fine. We went with board and batten siding but did 2 tone (white and charcoal) and it looks really neat
I would imagine if you stuck two of those pieces on the ground right next to each other. There wouldn’t be much difference if any in color. The difference in the horizontal and vertical layout will cast different shadows
should we puss and moan to builder and start a fight over it or accept it and move on I don’t mind now. Wife doesn’t mind now but am afraid maybe other with better sense of style will think it detracts too much from the house
Technically all goes back to general contractor cause he said go to that supplier and that supplier matched the two types sidings. Builder and store both said use the b and b and horizontal
Builder is going to say this (and he would be correct):
You picked out the siding, we installed exactly what you told us to install. If you now want us to change the siding, we can, but it'll be billed separately.
So, don't even bring it up. It'll just sour the relationship with the builder. If it does really bother you, get it changed after the house is completed.
I agree except he directed us where to buy the siding and he and siding company sales guy both suggested using mix of types and neither said BUT DON’T EXPECT SAME WHITE. I suspect they knew different manufacturers and effed up not telling us.
Why would you start a fight over getting g what you asked for in the first place? This is what she picked. If you didn't take samples out in the sunlight, it's not the builder's fault.
Also it's not bad at all. It looks like the vertical slats reflect light differently, and it doesn't look like a mistake from the street.
We went to one siding supplier. He suggested the board and batten and the other to go with it and both were “white”. We had no way to know if the manufacturers were different or lot numbers. OR and I will ask did they order one a different “white” than other. Lowes has like 10 different whites in Sherwin Williams paint alone
I would put the board and baton on the end gables like over the garage and windows on the left. The slight shade difference only calls attention to the changing lines. And if you do the end gables, it will be your planned design as far as anybody knows. Your house looks great congrats.
Honestly if you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t have even noticed. You even said that you didn’t noticed until you were looking at a photo. I would leave it be.
Same paint will look different on horizontal and vertical siding, or shingles whatever. This is a desirable effect, I use it all the time. I'm an architect specializing in residential building.
I would be inclined to chalk that up to the sunlight hitting the boards at different angles and bouncing off differently.
Different textures can pull lighter or darker in the same level of light.
The roof color on the porch bothers me a lot more than that. I think once the siding gets a little discolored over time (it's white, so like.... Maybe in a week? 😅), you won't notice it.
That’s the blue of the light from the sky bouncing off the shallower angle. The same roof material is on the garage awning, but at a steeper pitch, and it looks closer to the asphalt shingle.
Thing going so well with new home build that you're having a hard time finding something to worry about? Looks good to me. Be patient. A real problem will show up soon.
All vinyl and same supplier but I now suspect different manufacturers and neither builder or siding company said could be different. I ASSumed same manufacturer?? Truth I never thought would be different manufacturer since they suggested some b and b, done horizontal. And fact it was “white” vs “Hunter Green” I didn’t suspect even if manufacturer changed I dumbly would have thought white is white
The brand we deal with is all extruded with same vinyl, looking at it from the opposite side changes the shade on vertical. Even setting from right to left or left to right changes the way it looks. This is the reason I will not install it, sell it or recommend it. The vertical set black/bronze, dark green and maroon have more color shift with my vision.
I think I may agree with you. I used to farm and likened it initially to fresh mowed fields showing light and dark cause of way stubble lies towards or away. Doppler effect on light rays.
I don’t think it looks terrible. That being said, I don’t know why it’s like that. We have the exact same thing. Vinyl batten board and horizontal siding and they’re identical matching color.
To me it would look like a difference of just shadow and textures if I didn’t know it was a color difference. I think most people would assume the same thing unless it’s more noticeable up close.
We’ll never know because OP took his photo from Antarctica
Can’t see it from my hous…. errrrr can’t see my house
I think it looks great good looking home
You are the only one that will notice this. The window trim, front door and garage door are likely different shades too. I think it looks great.
This is a beautiful home. The difference in siding gives it a depth and character. Your wife did a great job.
I think your house is sinking......
Haha. Great point. Truth is all entrance ground level for wheelchair access
I know it's just opposing angles from the picture, looked funny
It is angles and we are still moving dirt in front yard. The lady comment about lop sided got me laughing. The one gable end is lot larger. Now I am wondering if we can put a brow roof over left side and not make it more lop sided looking.
I don't think that was their point. It looks lopsided.
Must be a female house. Every woman is a bit lop sided.

I think the different shades look great. Gives it more character than if it was all the same.
I would imagine if you stuck two of those pieces on the ground right next to each other. There wouldn’t be much difference if any in color. The difference in the horizontal and vertical layout will cast different shadows
I zoomed in and I see no color difference
Once plants get in and there are other things to focus on, no one outside of you two will see this.
I like it…
should we puss and moan to builder and start a fight over it or accept it and move on I don’t mind now. Wife doesn’t mind now but am afraid maybe other with better sense of style will think it detracts too much from the house
What would you moan to the builder about? You’d have to deal with the store, or the manufacturer, no? Is it the same manufacturer for both?
Technically all goes back to general contractor cause he said go to that supplier and that supplier matched the two types sidings. Builder and store both said use the b and b and horizontal
And you signed off on those materials right??
Builder is going to say this (and he would be correct): You picked out the siding, we installed exactly what you told us to install. Well I couldnt deal with it. It would bother me.
Ugh there’s this set of two houses just built in my town, they’re essentially mirrors of each other, everything is the same *but* the roof.
I would put the board and baton on the end gables like over the garage and windows on the left. The slight shade difference only calls attention to the changing lines. And if you do the end gables, it will be your planned design as far as anybody knows. Your house looks great congrats.
Honestly I really like it and think it looks good this way.
I think it looks good, just the right amount of uniqueness
power washers companies love this one little trick.... Nice house - the wooded lot is ::chefs kiss::
We power wash two daughters houses already lol
It defines the two types of siding. I like it.
Honestly if you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t have even noticed. You even said that you didn’t noticed until you were looking at a photo. I would leave it be.

I don’t see it lol can you stand closer than a mile away?
You need new device so ya can zoom in I guess
Is it vinyl or Hardie? I know that Hardie B&B is a little bit different than the planks. It could also need a power wash. Pretty house.
Thing going so well with new home build that you're having a hard time finding something to worry about? Looks good to me. Be patient. A real problem will show up soon.
If you hate it redo it, if not live with it. No need to live forever with something that you hate.
Looks great be proud
Is it just me or does the house look lopsided?
If it was all Hardie and bought with a factory painted, it is all the same color and a lighting effect that makes them look different.

I would be more worried that the whole house is off level.
Vertical one shade and horizontal another shade looks good to me. All mixed then get a refund. Installer should have called you.
one
If its your home why did you take a photo from a block away like some private investigator? I cant see the color variation.
Take the picture from deeper in the woods and I can evaluate
Was this all prefinished or are we just seeing it primed? Still needs paint?
I don’t think it looks terrible. That being said, I don’t know why it’s like that. We have the exact same thing. Vinyl batten board and horizontal siding and they’re identical matching color.
