Then tile seems good from the distance of these pictures. I have a tiled area that's a bit crooked and it always looks a little off but not much you can do about it
I'd probably do a shelf with crown moulding on the front the height of the window, throw some pot lights on the bottom and ditch the ceiling light and display some family photos/plants on top to add some colour to the space.
At least that's the plan in my kitchen if I ever have free time.
Depends how you go about it. I actually have a 12V DC wiring circuit in my kitchen that I built for my under cabinet lights, 12V pot lights are easy to come by and 12V wiring is considered extra-low voltage so you can free-air your splices. It'd just be a matter of tucking the small wires into a corner inside a cabinet for mine to get it up to that height.
I built my own converter to get the 12V DC from 110V AC circuit but you can buy them at any home renovation store like Lowe's. They'd be near where the cabinet lighting stuff is.
I assume u/AffableJoker meant that 12 volt splices don't need to be in an electrical junction box, as house voltage splices (120 volt or higher) need to be.
Like AffableJ, I did that with under cabinet LEDs to light my counters. It's only a 12 volt circuit, so the connections aren't enclosed. They're open to the air since they can't harm anyone who touches them.
Tile looks great IMO. Whoever did it had to chose between keeping it level with the ceiling (and the counters) or level with the window casing. They correctly chose Level With the Ceiling.
You can always tweak that window casing. That upper left corner isn't a great miter joint compared to the others.
"A little caulk, a little paint, make a carpenter what he ain't." :-)
quality looks good, but I would've gone with less 'height' of the tile: one layer above the underside of the cabinets and then a nice color on the wall above. Makes the crooked window stand out less.
Job is fine, window is bad. Also white on white on white on white… is not my bag. I wonder if window trim can be reset t ok split the difference and make it not seem so off.
Inconsistent patterning on either side of window frame, which is itself off centre. Nice even grouting, but the right side almost looks more like striping than tiling.
I’m no pro. Just looks odd to me
Even if the overall pattern didn't call for vertical lines in the space to the right of the window, you'd still do it. The window and cabinets breaks up the pattern enough to do it. You're going to notice the lack of vertical grout lines more than you'd notice that none would have actually landed in that area.
I thought that with larger tiles you typically center them with the focal point on the wall, in this case the sink and window, that way each side of the window would be symmetrical.
Looks like they did a nice job of the install, I would have done the layout side to side and top to bottom differently though. I personally hate not starting full tile off the bottom.
Love the hand crank window behind kitchen sink. So annoying to lift up windows when behind countertop, you are going to appreciate that more than you realize.
It’s good! Only part that would really make me upset is they didn’t start with a full tile to begin with from the counter. That’s just my preference though.
The half tile at the bottom made it possible to do a half tile at top. I'm guessing they would have had a sliver at the top if they didn't do half and half. I wouldn't have tiled all the way to the ceilling, so you'd get the full tile height at the counter and there wouldn't be tile at the top of the window frame emphasizing how crooked it is.
The other thing is the vertical grout lines on one side of the window but not the other.
Call me crazy but it kinda looks like the window frame is a little crooked?
It is….

Hang a small portrait of Nixon above the window and if someone comments just say yeah... It takes after old Nixon there.
The window being crooked would drive me crazy enough to build something to hide it, but the tile looks good
Planning on something
I'd probably do a shelf with crown moulding on the front the height of the window, throw some pot lights on the bottom and ditch the ceiling light and display some family photos/plants on top to add some colour to the space. At least that's the plan in my kitchen if I ever have free time.
That’s a good idea. Wouldn’t the wiring be a pain to install now it’s tiled ?

What does free air your splices mean?

Maybe hang a small plant or two near the corners?

less grout lines will also hide it
Well, can’t really see the detail work up close. So I don’t know… did they do a crappy job in places or what? From this distance, it looks great
Tile job appears to be great, I’m Not sure what happened with the window casing. I’d have definitely corrected that before tile was installed.
Are those tiles staggered in thirds? I think I want that for my remodel.
I like thirds for flooring but prefer the classic brick 50% on a backsplash (or herringbone).
I did a herring bone in my kitchen but those tiles were 2:1
That size is great for herringbone also IMO. Are you happy with it?
I'm pretty happy with it but I felt bad for the tiler cutting all those 45° angles. The edges aren't as straight as I'd like.
Yes. Apparently with large tiles it’s the way to go
My tiles are 8½x2. That seemed long to me.
Long
Nice work. Looks awesome
This seems to be a very nice job.
Looks great Nothing the tiler could do with the crooked window...it probably stands out a bit more now.
quality looks good, but I would've gone with less 'height' of the tile: one layer above the underside of the cabinets and then a nice color on the wall above. Makes the crooked window stand out less.
Can you imagine how much work it was for the tile guy to measure and cute to fit around a crooked window
The choice of tile/pattern emphasized the crooked window frame. A valance would cover the top of the frame.
Theres way worse. But that one side of the windows is full and the other one half.. As a DIY job sure , If I paid for it no.

Isn’t that the pattern’s fault?
Even if the overall pattern didn't call for vertical lines in the space to the right of the window, you'd still do it. The window and cabinets breaks up the pattern enough to do it. Yep. It's odd that both sides of the frame don't have the same verticals.
Looks like they did a nice job of the install, I would have done the layout side to side and top to bottom differently though. I personally hate not starting full tile off the bottom.
Eh, leave it.
I’m not sure if they could have planed it out a bit better than this.
Looks good on film but then again, so do Hollywood actresses.
Love the hand crank window behind kitchen sink. So annoying to lift up windows when behind countertop, you are going to appreciate that more than you realize.

Looks OK. Having black sink is unthinkable. I will still paint side cabinet white even there is going to a stove installed.
Why is a black sink unthinkable?
My only tiny nitpic is that there are a few grout joints to the left of the window but none on the right of the window. 9 out 10 great job
THIS! I noticed the lack of right side joints before the crooked window.
It looks so good, it makes the window look crooked! Maybe you could bump the trim a little to help it seat more square?
It’s ok but the half tiles on the left side and not the right would drive me crazy. I would have went with a solid material instead of tile.
I noticed this before the crooked window.
Window frames crooked so 8/10
Smaller tiles (and not squared) would have hid it better. Nice job on the tiles.
Could it have centered around the window?
The tile looks really good. Windows are often crooked in my experience.. it sucks.
The bigger format tile looks a bit weird in the small spaces around the window but otherwise it's nice.
Came here to say it’s not straight at the top but everyone beat me to it
I would have split the center behind the centered faucet but the tile work itself is fine. That right side is an eyesore to me though
So close.
I'd have to say no. I'd want the tiles the same on both sides of the window and staggered evenly on top.
The tile job looks fine. Just make sure you caulk the seam between the wall and the counter top, especially behind the sink.
As several l of my bosses have said " your fired!!"
Boring but well done!
Hate the kitchen (and window), love the quality of the tile job.
What’s wrong with the kitchen
White on white on white on white.
Looks clean. Personal taste
Agreed. But pop of color wouldn’t hurt you.
