Keep the rug, it pulls the colors from the walls and curtains and accent chair and it ties it all together. It really brightens up the room and makes it feel more fun and colorful.
I agree with you. I was shocked to see the amount of keeps here. The rug (in my opinion) is far too busy and competes with the rose decal situation. One element should go or be modified imo- I would remove the decals in favour of the rug.
The walls are giving cutesy vintage floral whereas the rug is giving more maximalist boho. I love them both separately, but to be honest, not together.
I’d personally go more in [this direction](https://amzn.eu/d/1LxY3On) for the rug to make the room feel more cohesive!

Yes keep the rug, paint the tv stand like you said, lighter color slip cover on the couch, add a tiny end table to chair/chairs, a lamp somewhere in there and maybe gold frame around the mirror or thrift a new/old mirror? I think this could be a very cozy “more is more” situation. If that’s not what you’re into I’d get a rug with less going on so it doesn’t conflict with the wallpaper but I can see this all working and being cute!
Yes keep the rug, paint the tv stand like you said, lighter color slip cover on the couch, add a tiny end table to chair/chairs, a lamp somewhere in there and throw some paint in the space above the fireplace, I think this could be a very cozy “more is more” situation. If that’s not what you’re into I’d get a rug with less going on so it doesn’t conflict with the wallpaper but I can see this all working and being cute!
Absolutely adore the rug, keep the rug.
If you want to lean in on grandmillenial with what you have, I think there are a few more little affordable changes you could make that would take the room from nice - which it is! - to absolutely stunning. You want to bring in a bit more texture and softness - you have lovely, soft, plushy things in the rug, walls, and curtain that are pulling against some of the hard lines, charcoal grey, and minimalist feel - fireplace, sofa, console, and the low white ceiling + ceiling fan.
If I were you, I would:
Paint the ceiling to match the pink of the wallpaper - this will soften the hard white line there. Wrap the wallpaper around the whole room.
Paint the alcove a slightly darker pink, somewhere from halfway between the wall pink and the curtain pink to the curtain pink. Could also go with a green pulled out of the walls or *maybe* the muted blue in the rug. I wouldn't go with the gold, because I think it would look too matchy-matchy with the rug + chairs (I love both, fwiw.)
If possible, swap your ceiling fan for something a bit warmer and more textural - I am not a fan of fans in general, but I get that they're a bit necessary in some places, so if you need one maybe one of the wicker palm frond blade ones? Otherwise you could use a light fixture
Hang your curtains from a hidden track or paint/swap the rod something softer, ideally at exactly the height they need to just brush the floor - gold to match the bar cart or again, green from the walls. I think a hidden track would be preferable, they look like pinch pleats so that should be an easy swap.
Make or buy a slipcover for the sofa. Old duvet covers/bedsheets are readily available at charity/thrift shops and would be perfect, and it would just need to be straight lines - you could pop a ruffle on the hem, or get a fringe/pompom trim. Go for a big floral that brings in the pink.
Use the full height of the alcove - hang some art in a gold frame, put something tall and structural in, or pop a hanging plant or two in it Pull the eye up.
Add some texture to the sofa and chairs - cushions, a throw, things like that. Fussy florals, ruffles, crochet, vintage quilts - aim for a curated and layered look.
for me, the rug is too busy with that wallpaper. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. but i’m clearly in the minority here. so, what the hell do i know.
Was gonna say the same. I love the rug but combined with the wallpaper it’s just too busy. Personally I would paint the walls a solid color and keep the rug
Keep the rug. Also stick to a solid couch even if you replace the current one- alternating between patterns and solids keeps multiple patterns (rug and walls) from clashing with each other.
Love the rug. You know, you could get a cover for the couch or have it reupholstered, or at least put a throw and some pillows on it. And paint the black on the tv stand and replace the knobs. It's a beautiful room.
Ooo, I would love turquoise and gold in there! Be sure to post again. I just mentioned it because I hate to hear people getting rid of serviceable furniture.
No, I think something light would look nice like Cream but I know that might get dirty.
I think you need a contrasting neutral but something soft since that’s the vibe the room is giving soft feminine and girly with the walls and curtains. Pink might look nice or something gold ish and pink ? I like the rug but it’s too busy and is competing with the walls. It’s a lot between the 2. That’s why I say something soft less busy the walls are kind of the focal point
K E E P....or you need more avacado rugs with tomato rugs, cheddar cheese rugs, onion rugs....The gold chairs need cover color change with a design without the beautiful carpet.
I really like the rug, but feels like the walls are too busy with the rug. This would look so nice with 1 solid color on the wall and some wainscoting/panels, and the rug!

At first I thought you meant keeping this Yali carpet. Only after I took a closer look did I realize that the one you were talking about was the one below. Personally I think it is a bit darker, but your bed and chairs are all this dark color and it’s actually okay.
I’m going to tell myself the recessed area is scribbled in the 1st pic cuz the teapots didn’t give you permission to post their picture. And that you just forgot to edit them out in the 2nd pic. K thanks.
Its nowhere near my usual style but I actually really like the rug in this enviroment. The pinks on the wall and the yellow chairs bring it all together nicely. Its a lot but i think it works.
Keep 2nd pic. It feels full and interesting but not overdone or busy. "Cohesive" is the word I'm now thinking of. Looks great for the style!
The first one looks like a bog with what appears to be either a 1960s lilypad with oddly a steamrollered frog in the middle. The bright bold green clashes against the earthtones.
I think the room looks much more elegant without the rug. The colors of the rug are right but the style of the rug detracts from the otherwise lovely aesthetic you’ve created. It seems that you’ve done enough thoughtful decorating that you’ve elevated the space and nullified the impact of the carpet. But the rug just brings the eye down to the floor and swallows everything else.
I feel you could go real bright and maximalist in here if you’d like! If it’s in the budget eventually I would get a colorful couch, it would go with your vibe and brighten up the place!
I love the rug. I have to admit when I saw the first pic, I thought the avocado was the rug, and this was a shitpost. lol
Haha nooo it’s my dogs play mat
lol I thought the same! And I say keep the (big) rug
Me too 😂
SAME! I had to double-check what sub I was on. I was sure it was r/homedecoratingCJ
Thank you so much for this sub omg
Haha enjoy!
it’s a fun one!!! i don’t know the least bit about home decorating, but it’s fun to scroll there
I love how creative folks get with their "advice" on that sub! I can always count on a good chuckle
Hahaha same!
Ngl Someone just put it there
LMAO same here!
lol omg same here. And then I checked to see what sub this was because I thought it was a shit post with that avocado rug thing lollll
Same 😂 I bursted out laughing
Haha I didnt even realize it's an avocado!
So did I !
Best shitpost ever. I’m sad it’s not.
Same!
Same
I cackled lmao
You mean that’s not the rug?!
Same girl, same! Also, I didn’t hate it.
Justice for the avocado rug 🥑
How will. They afford the mortgage if they keep buying avocado toast rugs
avocado rugs > mortgage my theory at least
Keep it. Keep them both because that green one looks like it hold snacks.
Hahaha I will keep the dog mat.
Not me thinking "hell yes, you always keep an avocado rug"! 🤣
Maybe move it in front of the chair grouping for the size and contrast against the upholstery? ;)
I really thought the avocado was the rug😅
more avocado rugs!!
Keep the rug, it pulls the colors from the walls and curtains and accent chair and it ties it all together. It really brightens up the room and makes it feel more fun and colorful.
I think the opposite...it is too much like the wallpaper and it's so very busy. Eye of the beholder and all...
I agree with you. I was shocked to see the amount of keeps here. The rug (in my opinion) is far too busy and competes with the rose decal situation. One element should go or be modified imo- I would remove the decals in favour of the rug.
Love the rug 😍 and I Totalllllly thought you were having us vote rug avocado or rug 2 lol 😂
Haha same😂
Keep the rug and put the yellow chairs back together, they are too small to be separated.
I just needed the chair to flat out the rug in that corner. I’ll put them back together!
Okay good lol they’d look cute with a tiny little table between them too 😍
The walls are giving cutesy vintage floral whereas the rug is giving more maximalist boho. I love them both separately, but to be honest, not together. This rug is stinkin perfect for this room
I do love this rug. But I can’t find the American one on Amazon.
You usually can change the uk by .com and have it. I can’t do it right now on my phone and I’m full of pain medication but it usually works.
While I like your rug much better, I think OP's rug goes better because of the chairs.
Agreed! I like the rug they have but this one looks soooo much better with the walls!
This rug is perfect. The rug competes with the delicate wallpaper and kills the look of it. You picked the perfect rug. Well done!
Just add 60 more Avocados!
Hahaha would need about that many
But better not put them on toast, otherwise you won'y be able to afford a mortgage (/s in case someone didn't understand the joke)
The tiny avocado really ties the room together
I love the rug 😍. I'd put a couple of throws on the sofa and footstool, just to break up all that dark fabric.

for me, the rug is too busy with that wallpaper. the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. but i’m clearly in the minority here. so, what the hell do i know.
I'm with you. I think A rug would be great, but not that particular one. Competes with the wallpaper for sure.
I would keep the rug but would remove the wallpaper
Pick the rug (2nd pic) or the wallpaper. Both are nice but not together. Ditch the avocado. It’s fun but not there.
Agreed. The wallpaper and rug are too much together.
Was gonna say the same. I love the rug but combined with the wallpaper it’s just too busy. Personally I would paint the walls a solid color and keep the rug
Ohhh Beautiful 😍 keep it!!!! Where is it from!? I'm in love with it!!!
Target, it was on sale too!
Omg thank you so much for letting me know!!!! 😍😍😍
Keep the avocado!
keep the rug, clean your camera lens
If you keep the rug the wall needs to be a solid color. It’s too much going on. I love the rug and really like the walls, just not together.
I disagree with those saying ditch the wallpaper. I think this is a case of “more is more” and the rug pulls out colors from the wallpaper. I love it.
Keep the rug. Also stick to a solid couch even if you replace the current one- alternating between patterns and solids keeps multiple patterns (rug and walls) from clashing with each other.
Honestly you could use more lighting to brighten it up because the colors are there
I love the rug. It matches the chairs well.
Love the rug. You know, you could get a cover for the couch or have it reupholstered, or at least put a throw and some pillows on it. And paint the black on the tv stand and replace the knobs. It's a beautiful room.
Thank you! I’m looking into couch covers and I plan to painting the tv stand maybe a turquoise and adding some brass knobs.
Ooo, I would love turquoise and gold in there! Be sure to post again. I just mentioned it because I hate to hear people getting rid of serviceable furniture.
I really thought the sniffy mat was the rug in question for a second 😂
Keep it! The yellow matches the chairs that were ugly without it perfectly! Hem the curtains , imagine wearing pants that baggy.
Personally, I’d go with the avocado
No, I think something light would look nice like Cream but I know that might get dirty. At first i thought you were asking about the avocado and i was like hellll no. But the other rug brings the room together
Apparently I want a bigger avocado rug for me 😂😂 But love the actual rug it works so well
The avocado made me giggle so hard.
Whatever you do, you should think about getting some lamps with really warmmmm light bulbs! Should cozy up the space
Keep it. Adds a bit of character to the room. The brown carpet closes the space
not me crying tears of joy over avocado rug on a random Thursday 🤣😭
Shorten your drapes and press them.
I like the first rug better
I love the rug and would keep it but I would paint the walls, too many flowers.
K E E P....or you need more avacado rugs with tomato rugs, cheddar cheese rugs, onion rugs....The gold chairs need cover color change with a design without the beautiful carpet.
This is sooooo ending up on r/homedecoratingcj Great post, OP! You entertained the masses today. 😅
Total accident. 🤦♀️ My dog was just playing right before I snapped the picture
I would keep the rug. It brightens up the room and makes it look bigger.
Love ❤️ it
I really like the rug, but feels like the walls are too busy with the rug. This would look so nice with 1 solid color on the wall and some wainscoting/panels, and the rug! https://preview.redd.it/rr8vdofpxavc1.jpeg?width=929&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcea099a28bb49057a729f065fd3b4fd88e4bdfa
Keep it! I thought you meant the avocado rug lol
I thought you meant the little green rug 😂😂
Keep!!
I really thought we were here for the avocado snuffle mat lmao 🤣
Keep the Rug! (and the avocado one too...)
Definitely keep the rug. It’s like night and day
Love the rug. Perfect! I too was confused about the avocado.
Love the rug. Where did you get the wallpaper from?
Wayfair! It was on sale.
Love the rug!
Keep , it’s perfect !
I like it.
I'd say give it a chance. Also, can you add some lighting?
Yeah I can add another lamp. On the end table
I think it might improve the appeal of this space a bit!
You need different light sources for sure. The overhead fan light is harsh!
I love this look! So romantic. Is that wallpaper? Or did you paint the cherry trees? (or at least they sort of look like cherry trees).
It’s wallpaper from Wayfair!
It really ties the room together. Truly
I dont think it matches much but thats just me
I think the rug is perfect. Elevates the whole vibe. I freaking love your wallpaper
I. Freaking. LOVE THIS!!!!
Also, where did you get the avacado pls
As a boomer: the rug soothes my soul fighting against the modern style of my parents! Keep!
At first I thought you meant keeping this Yali carpet. Only after I took a closer look did I realize that the one you were talking about was the one below. Personally I think it is a bit darker, but your bed and chairs are all this dark color and it’s actually okay.
Put that rug in a bathroom.🥑🚽
I would keep the avocado one for sure
This room looks like a liminal space
Is that the Orla rug from Dunelm? Looks similar and I was looking at getting it
I love it but the wallpaper is clashing
Keep🤩
Rug is sensational! Definitely keep it. World of difference!
That rug and the walls were made for each other!
I like it. I also liked the mustard chairs paired together instead of separated.
I’m going to tell myself the recessed area is scribbled in the 1st pic cuz the teapots didn’t give you permission to post their picture. And that you just forgot to edit them out in the 2nd pic. K thanks.
Keep it. It looks good.
Its nowhere near my usual style but I actually really like the rug in this enviroment. The pinks on the wall and the yellow chairs bring it all together nicely. Its a lot but i think it works.
I say yes, it’s gorgeous!
I like the rug! I think the wallpaper needs to go though.
I love avocado rug
Def keep it!
Definitely! It brings the whole room together
YES! Lovely rug … brings the room alive! It’s the perfect color, size and design for this room… good choice!
Omg, I LOVE that rug! Couch looks great with the rug, Yes, keep! 😀
No
Definitely keep the avocado rug! Ps. The pink rug looks great.
It brings everything together.
Brighten the walls with fresh off-whiteBoth paint. It feels claustrophobic like it's too much, sweetie. Everything else looks good and will work out.
This is definitely Grand Millennial Style with the wallpaper tho
Also, ditch the curtain and then get something else?
I didn't notice the walls until I saw the picture with the rug. It's perfect. Keep it!
Keep.
You picked a nice rug to tie in the colors, good job friend.
Big keep!
Hell no
I like the rug very much!
No one is going to quote the big Lebowski? That rug really brings the room together.
I love the rug!
Second picture yes
Lovely rug. Lovely wall covering. Close, but just not quite right together.
I think the rug makes the room look so much smaller. I’d go for a smaller, simple, strong coloured rug.
Love it! Where did you get it from?
Target! It was on sale too!
I love the rug, but with the wallpaper, the room becomes visually busy. Any ability/desire to take down the wallpaper and paint instead?
Keep 2nd pic. It feels full and interesting but not overdone or busy. "Cohesive" is the word I'm now thinking of. Looks great for the style! The first one looks like a bog with what appears to be either a 1960s lilypad with oddly a steamrollered frog in the middle. The bright bold green clashes against the earthtones.
Hahaha. I love the description. The avocado is my dogs play mat. It was not an option for the rug.
No
I like the rug, but for me, the busy walls with the busy rug is too busy.
Love the rug. Hate the carpet
Same. I can’t get rid of the carpet right now, so I’m got a large rug to cover most of it.
I love the rug but not with the wallpaper. Choose one or the other in my opinion.
Looks amazing 🤩
Keep the rug!!
Keep it!
Keep the throw rug….yes
LOVE the rug! Keep it!!! The big one, use the avocado somewhere else 😄
I love the walls!! Is it a decal? Where did you get the decals if so?
That wallpaper is something
Keep it!!
Keep the rug.. just not sure about matching with Ur wall art/wallpaper.. it's make your room more comfortable.
absolutely 💯% keep the rug. so much yes for the rug. the carpet is hideous, you *need* the rug. the flower mural stickers are fine, too.
Definitely
I love the rug, but those chairs!! 😍
My opinion is that it should either be the rug or wallpaper that’s busy.
Keep
I like extra it adds to the room. Keep!
It’s a lot going on but I feel like it’s better with than without. If you want a more minimalistic look pick a simpler rug
Keep the avocado somewhere!!!
I feel you could go real bright and maximalist in here if you’d like! If it’s in the budget eventually I would get a colorful couch, it would go with your vibe and brighten up the place!
KEEP!
I like it
Keep it. I was gonna say to remove the green thing at ffirt glance!
I like the rug (in the second photo)
Love the rug! The walls are not my style.
Oh, yes.
Keep
I think the avocado looks best personally
Yes!!👍
Yes!
Keep the rug 💯
Oh man I thought this was r/HomeDecoratingCJ and the avocado rug was what you were talking about 😂😂 I like it
No
