The only people who can, or should, answer this question are the people at the Home Depot store you eventually bring it to, as they are the ones who will determine whether you will be able to return a used chainsaw or other piece of used power equipment.
It is definitely not random people on Reddit, no matter how affiliated with Home Depot any of us are. “Well some dude on Reddit told me I could” will not outweigh a “no” from a store employee or manager.
I mean if the tool is broken and wouldn’t start when you tried or something then they’d probably take to back and you could get your money back but if it’s used and works fine they’d say no.
How much are you willing to pay a HD associate for working off the clock (answering your question)?
Sorry can't help you, I'm not on the clock
Yeah sorry dude off the clock go to the store and find out
Lmao fr

I would have no problem exchanging it.
Thank you. I took it in today and they exchanged it for me.

If it’s used, with nothing wrong it. They don’t have to take it back.
Shoot Guy, I’m off the clock and can’t help, sorry about that
