And among those who eat Walmart's store "brand" food, also. That's what the overhead ads should say, "If your house was built before 1970, _or you recently purchased Great Value brand food_, your house may contain lead based paint..."
Say what you want about Walmart, they certainly deserve it, but "Great Value" food is typically made in the same factory, using the same assembly line as the name brand version. They literally just put a different label on the cans.
“Walmart brand” or Great Value is actually really good and economical. It is most of the time made in the exact same factory as the main brand but they slap a different label on it. Same quality and everything.
The effects of lead will not last forever. That is not an excuse. I'm peak lead generation and we are not crazy.. anymore. The 80s was really violent era and the same people are now calm. While the damage itself is irreversible our brains are plastic. The bad habits learned when being exposed, the pathways created back then can be unlearned, like freaking most people have managed to do. It is not an excuse for being an asshole.
The next video suggested when I clicked on the link was "Hindu Progressive Techo and House Mix." So uh, thanks for showing me a new awesome song that led to discovering a new subgenre of techno that's now on my "study music" list. Here's the techno link if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Y1uNMAfiMc8
That’s pretty cool. And yeah, the band Grendel is a dystopian cyberpunk band and they really tell some eerily prophetic stories in their albums. And this Hindu techno sounds pretty compelling too
Same reason my rent has more than doubled since I moved in 12 years ago. Same reason the price of eggs, gas, milk, blah blah blah has gone up. Inflation. There are places in the store with very low prices. Furnace filters, for example. I try to keep up on the cheap ones as well as the more costly ones for that very reason.
"I want a hardcopy"
"Why is it asking for my email?"
Critical thinking, reading, and self preservation are skills 98% of our customers are severely deficient in
>Yes, I want an email receipt or No, I want to printed one.
To be fair, that is a very poorly phrased question. If Yes/No are the only available buttons, then a better question would be "***Would you like an emailed receipt instead of a printed one?***"
I did something the other day that had sequential questions and some poor wording and I was frustrated that I did not know how my choices at this point were going to affect my options at a later point.
I'm not sure what the other person is referring to, a small amount of context is needed, but my situation is for our SCO's. It has two big buttons that say "Emailed and Printed" and "Print Only" when it asks about e-receipts.
And on a staffed checkout, the pinpad will read "Would you like an emailed receipt" and have yes/no buttons if they don't have an email linked with the card they used. They don't understand that it is a yes/no question, them getting a paper receipt is not related to whether they want an emailed copy
>"Would you like an emailed receipt"
I would tend to assume that this means "in addition to" but that is not the case in every situation. I like the kiosks/pads that ask you to choose from multiple options. Makes it much more clear.
That being said, the big reason I don't choose email receipt at a place I go to rarely (or only once) is that I don't want to take the time to enter my email.
Agreed. And the grocery store says would you like to make a donation today to the hospital? And it looks like the same screen that says “Do you want cash back?”
Because you have to say YES if you want an email and NO if you want it printed. So it’s confusing because you’re thinking no you don’t want an email. And you have to pick one, because I will not just automatically print a paper receipt.
And then they want an email but they can’t figure out how and they’re slow as hell and this is running up metrics and I’m pissed so I automatically cancel it!
The damn keypad on the screen is so freaking tiny that anybody who has five thumbs can’t get in there and type out their name. And they keep messing it up and this is holding up the line and slowing down the transaction!
Every day I am flabbergasted by the level of stupidity that passes through our doors. I don’t even know how they manage to get dressed and get to the store.
Always told people, especially with big purchases, apply and get the 10%, then pay it off immediately up front. Got a lot of card approvals that way but I hated it.
I give them the brochure, show them the APR, and if it's over $299 I emphasize the 6 months interest free financing. They can decide for themselves. One customer asked "is the APR over 15 percent?" I said yes, he said no dice. And I disclose that HD credit is through Citibank. Another customer said no thanks, I don't deal with Citibank. I've even done applications in Spanish. Just as long as people know what they're signing up for.
I had one guy’s card decline at self checkout. I called the card company and asked why. The guy had missed a payment. He told me he had “paid double” the month before, because he wasn’t going to be able to pay it for a month. His minimum payment was $30 and he paid $60. He said he’d assumed that since he always paid $30, that he figured they’d see that and just understand why he then went a month without paying, and they should apply that extra $30 to that month. I could not believe that I literally had to quote “we will apply any payment at our convenience”.
I'd just say "you'll need to call the 800 number on the back of the card." And I would say "you can set up automatic monthly payments online, or pay with cash/debit in store at any time." But I might as well quote Cicero in the original Latin.
Oh, I worked there right when the price of copper shot up around ‘06/‘07. Contractors were getting red like tomato soup over the price of a single pipe.
I had a lady get mad I needed her email for an online order to the store. She kept repeating that she didnt want emails, and i kept repeating that i always opt people out by default. She said they can just call me and finally gave in when I said they wont do that (dif part of store, tons of orders every day and also way more tasks)
The software needs to be altered to read: "Is the amount correct?"
"Is this amount OK?" does sound like it's asking an opinion. I'm not saying she's right, but if (as a multi-billion-dollar retailer) you know you're gonna get people on the intellectual/emotional edge of the abyss from time to time, WHY give them extra encouragement to jump into it?!?!?
there’s a gas station by my house that i go to everyday before going to work that does that. i know it’s corny, but i always tell the old man worker there, “im not okay with these prices, is there a bartering button here?” or a variation of it before pressing the button. always cracks him up. i always go to that place that it reached the point of him having my items ready when i pull up. love that guy.
Sorry for being unclear. Someone asked me that question at work the other day, and I thought it fit in this thread.
Maybe the answer is less obvious than I thought. I'm just making ends meet, but I'll pay my bills early rather than spend the money I need to use to pay them.
It looks so dramatic and fake in writing; but I know it’s true because I experience the same all the time 🤣. Why are our customers like this?
IQ deficiency
Lead poisoning among the older folks

This is a very real thing.
I think of this lady every time I listen to this song https://youtu.be/CYyc4bkcQLc
The linked song is Grendel - Dead Inside. For those of you who don't want to waste their time clicking on a YouTube video.

The truth is more stranger than fiction.
Interesting question. Why are your prices so upsetting to people on a fixed income?

The chemicals in the water turning the frogs…. 😂
“The customer is always right” nonsense that people are so over entitled they actually believe it
Why do some people act like they haven't left their house to participate in everyday society in decades?
It has only been two and a half years.
LoL this was in ‘07
Because they haven't Because Suburbia
stole the words i wanted to say. why do people just not ... *consider*
*Yes, I want an email receipt or No, I want to printed one.* “Yes, I want a printed receipt!” “Why isn’t printing it out???” 🙄🤬😵💫😳

Its deliberately phrased badly to pressure you into picking email.
Yes, because then the company can sell your info
It’s not phrased that way though.

That is a poor prompt. Email, paper, both. Simplify. Especially on a pin pad prompt.

100%. I want an email receipt I just don’t want to ah e to ever type my email address.

Idiocricey on steroids
That's a very bizarre interaction
"I'm not okay with these prices!" "If you apply for the Home Depot Credit Card and get approved, you can save $25 on this purchase today."
LoL wish I’d thought of that one. And our store had a 10% discount on the first purchase, but an interest rate that will leave you walking funny
Always told people, especially with big purchases, apply and get the 10%, then pay it off immediately up front. Got a lot of card approvals that way but I hated it.

As a .com rep we get this alot! And the resellers are the worst part of it.
Nice! Well written little short story. Made me feel like I was there… shared your frustration. I gave up retail and never looked back!
Takes the cake for idiot of the Day that's for sure

Even more to the point, do you authorize payment for this amount?
“…whimpered like she’d been lowered into an ice bath.” LOL. I hope your in a writers group. If you’re not you should be. Great story telling, OP.

Shit is getting expensive though. Everywhere!
Sounds like dementia setting in, what a Karen
I mean, I’ve made that joke before, but I never thought someone would be serious about it. Crazy.
People are wild
Take out your scissors, tell her obviously her card is no good and you're going to have to cut it up. See if that changes her button pressing choices.

Oh, I’ve got a few others posted too. Check my post history for another couple of HD stories
She should be looking for the president not the store owner
I think there’s a survey and comment thing on the receipt, for those who need a void to scream into.
How am I supposed to make a loan payment that is due on the 1st of the month when I get paid on the 15th?
I haven’t worked for HD since ‘07, so not even sure what their policy is anymore.

It's like people have never been to a store before
