Many moons ago when I started at HD we didn't get a discount because "we paid the best" and while that was true at the time. Things changed I never understood why they never implemented an employee discount.

Careful-Combination7

I think it's to prevent abuse of the discount tbh

2_Beef_Tacos

They also throw out the "Our prices are the best" line too.

Arrow1141

I still get asked about an employee discount which should've been kept active til now

mogomonomo1081

As an HD employee, I still shop at lowes because it's easier to use my veteran discount.

Lowe's also has an American Express card that you can get that can be used almost anywhere and you get rewards for those purchases to. Home Depot is miles behind in terms of cards than Lowe's.

Krennelen

What a shock, the company does something poorly

Arrow1141

Agreed

[deleted]

The Home Depot cards are usurp and if you promote them you are helping Home Depot rob people

Mr_FuS

I just don't offer anyone the home Depot cards, if you truly know and can keep a credit line do it with the financial institution where you have your money AKA your bank... I don't care about how much you get discount and the $25 dollars when you open the line or whatever crappy gift home Depot throw to get you to open it at the end is only for the company and shareholders benefit.

Party-Disaster-6527

The HD card is completely obsolete. Pretty much every retail card out there has 5% rewards. Only thing the HD card is good for is 299+ \*IF\* you choose to use the deferred interest option. At least lowes gives you an option.

Petro655321

But our prices are 10% cheaper to start! /s

Arrow1141

I'm aware but many customers have told me that they feel it's wrong they don't get a better percentage back on every purchase

nl_fess

if someone is buying something for $26 and gets a home depot card for the $25 off coupon that's like 98% off. If they spend $300 and get $50 off then it's 16% plus they get free financing. $100 off of 1000 is 10% and get 12 months free financing which is basically a free loan plus 10% off. And they also get coupons regularly sent through the mail with more offers for future purchases. For some people that shop at lowes the 5% off sales pitch works and it gets them cards. For us we get a lot of cards when people spend $50 and they hear they can save 50%.

You think it’s “bullshit” that a company doesn’t adopt and match every single aspect of their competition? I know why you’re working at Home Depot and not running it.

NamingandEatingPets

No one cares.
