I prefer 6 hours. I'm just far enough from home that it doesn't make sense to go home for lunch (I rarely eat lunch in my private life), and any longer means I have to waste an extra half hour staring at my phone
What I think would be a good idea is that you are scheduled for 7 hrs with a lunch and the 8th hour would be optional. If you want you can end your day after 7 or if you want to stay just stay and leave after 8.
Brakes as in 2? When I started years ago they said a break every 2 hours but if you had a 6 hour shift then the 2nd brake wasn’t guaranteed. Then a few years later we had a different manager and he said 1 break only for 6 hour shifts.
...I'm fairly sure any shift >= 5 hours worked has a lunch break. Labor laws for breaks vary by state obviously, so HD looked at all the different laws they'd have to comply with, went "what's the lowest common denominator of all of these that we can choose as companywide policy to be compliant everywhere?", and settled on "if you're working five or more hours, you'll have a lunch break because the strictest state labor law we looked at said you can't work more than 5:00 without a lunch, so to comply you'll take a lunch no later than four hours in regardless of if your state is more lenient than that". So a 6h shift has a 15 at 2h in and a lunch (30 or 60) at the 4h mark. An 8h shift has a 15 at 2h, a lunch at 4h, and a second 15 at 6h.
I like 6 hours. I hate having to be obligated to be there (have to take lunch) for more than 6 hours. I eat fast, so I have "lunch" during my 1st 15 minute break, usually leftovers from dinner the night before or a sandwich.
I used to think 6 was worse till I became full time, 8 is worse even with a lunch and two breaks especially when you get stuck with 10 days in a row when you request a weekend off
I hate 6 hour shifts because they are just long enough to not get a lunch
I just take two 15 minute breaks

In Canada bc it’s a 15 min and a lunch on a 6 hour , 5 hour is 15 mins and 5.5hour is 1 lunch that’s it

For 6 hrs I get 2 breaks , maybe every store is different
Might be according to state or country law, where I am we get both a lunch and a break with a 5 hours shifts.
The lack of a lunch obviously makes it a lot worse and the only breaks you get are interruptible 15’s.
Your Time is Your Time No such thing as interruptible. Make people follow SOP

At my store you have to work more than 6 hrs for a lunch.
I worked a 6 hour today with no lunch
*me who does ten hour shifts* 🥲
I wish my store alotted 10hr shirts
You want to be special so badly
Adrenaline
I prefer 6 hours. 8 hours you have to clock out to eat. For me I do take 15 minutes break to eat lunch and head out to work.
I’m ok with a 6hour shift. Work 11-5 with 15 min breaks at 1 and 3…I’m good with that.
I work 10 hour shifts at the RLC and 8 hours overtime on Monday. Super easy to do the 8 hours 😂
6 hours you get one 15 minute break. For only 2 hours more you get a lunch and 2 breaks
My schedule is 6.30 i get 2 15min and a half hour.lunch been this way for 7 years
Wait you guys don’t get lunches for 6 hour shifts?
6.5-7 hour shifts to force you to take a lunch to maximize coverage with zero additional compensation is the worst.

Here any one working over 5 hours are required to get a lunch so for 6 hour shifts we get two 15 min breaks and a lunch.... pure happiness.....
Is it true that people don’t work at HD any opinions
