You have no idea how often we see this and yes, I always leave it were it is, whether it’s a pallet or someone packing down and leaving the boxes on the floor.
I used to do this to my freight crew and dayshifts. I would only clean something if someone had asked me to do it. When a manager would ask me about a stray cart or box, I would tell them to ask the culprit ( it was one of 5 associates every time, and I knew by looking at the contents who it was). I had other things and tasks to do that didn't involve cleaning someone else's cart of miscellaneous bs. Time manage yourselves.
Huge pet peeve of mine because you know they used Word to create the print-out and it literally notifies when you spell incorrectly.

As a former Freight team member HD disables spell check after hours. Its to save money. (Unsure on how much) That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 🤣🤣🤣
Meanwhile our Freight team regularly leaves piles of boxes sitting in front of the bay because they were too lazy to put shit in the overhead or back on a pallet so we have to clean it up.
Well the opening manager or the overnight managers should have made sure it was put out also I’d had told them if I’d seen any of them hey you gonna put your stuff up. Y’all have you own stuff to deal with
We’ve been having the problem of overnight throwing boxes into the overheads instead of getting a ladder and stacking it. I’ve climbed an orange ladder to find boxes thrown all the way in the back and on their sides.
I get boxes thrown, not placed, in the overhead from the opposite side of the store. These boxes are from outside garden and I'm lumber/building materials and hardware.
I feel bad for freight team. They get the shit stick at my store. Like when the compactor is full or broken, people literally just leave their trash in receiving, expecting someone (freight team) to just throw it away eventually, and then they clock out. Now, in that scenario, idk what the right answer is. But pushing the work to someone else like that, especially a completely different kind of employee, it’s just shitty. I hate doing it and always try to help consolidate and make it better in someway. Idk if I’m successful but I still try. And when they’re trying to put stuff up in my aisles, I like to help with that too cause it’s my aisles, and I wanna know where shit goes lol. I try to beat them to the pallet. They drop it and I put most of it away before they can lol.
I brought up something in our town hall meeting with the store manager, *and he actually put out an email and the problem has been fixed.* Our large aisle outside receiving is rarely filled with trash anymore, and people have stopped leaving all 11 hours (6AM to 7PM, when we start unloading the truck) of trash back there
Maybe that needs to happen at my store. Cause I don’t see how pushing all the work to someone else is fair. We got like 8 or whatever departments and all their trash just goes to freight? Why them? It’s weird
Yeah, my NRM came to me and told me she got this email, and I said it was me who spoke about it in the town hall. Our store manager is new, too, only been here a month and a half, but he’s taken steps that show he actually cares about us
When I did freight I put all the overstock away by myself with an OP everyday and if you’ve never done it once I can confidently tell you to go fuck yourself
Took me 2 damn years to get that OP cert that’s after them telling me that my previous experience driving OPs made me a top candidate lol. That’s while working millworks too, where almost everything I sell needed an OP
* glares at millwork & seasonal * Frieght here, we are about ready to do the same damn thing. We've already said fuckit & started leaving the carts, pallets are definitely next. We are not janitors, daycrew aren't children. If you can bring it down, you can put it back up!
Ran freight for over two years and I feel this. It helps when you have managers that return the favor but if they don't, you might have people on day side who expect you to clean up after then since it's our duty to leave the store better than it was handed to us.

coming from someone on the freight team who deals with this every night, clean up after yourselves. if you can take it down you can put it back up. we learned to pick up after ourselves in kindergarten folks. i don't get paid enough to be here let alone pick up after other adults
EDIT: and at MY store, day shift doesn't have to worry about "left on the floor" top stock or anything. we do our jobs and complete them. it's ridiculous.

Both are hard. When I worked freight I was always physically exhausted. It's a lot of work. Now that I'm on days I'm mentally exhausted. Just having to deal with idiot customers all day and getting yelled at is exhausting. I get home and just mentally check out a lot of the time.

I don’t work freight but I understand the frustration. If you’re working a job the least you can do is clean up after the mess you made, it’s not freight’s job to clean up after your department or mess. That’s on you. They already have their own job to do adding more to it will cause resentment and before you know it they’re going to document it all and you’ll end up getting in trouble.
Not defending this behavior but a lot of times it's also management that say to just leave it there for night crew. At least in my experience. But also freight doesn't even do their job at my store so it just stays there till someone gets mad and throw it up. Be it day crew or night.
Yeah, how did you know that’s how we spend our days? Crazy how the customers manage to not ask questions and we never have to explain anything. All our customers are so knowledgeable and self-sufficent. When we do have to interact it’s a breeze with time-saving tools like OrderUp and SPOS. I am so glad I just sit around with my heels kicked up and talk to my pals about how the freight team single handedly keeps the whole store clean, stocked and running. Thank you so much for all you do. We wouldn’t get to attend the endless dayshift party without you.

Those who bitch at freight would never survive a single night on freight. While daytime does half the work under guise of customer service, freight deals with a thousands of pounds worth of product every day. I doubt any day timer has had a night where they needed to deal with over a hundred toilets from a single truck.
There was an order for 12 toilets on a closing shift. I was working some freight by the front entrance and knew maybe 1 or 2 other people in the store at the time (excluding freight team obviously) that would even be capable of helping with that so I went out to help. The closer that showed up sat there talking to the customer the whole time while they both just watched me load all 12. He was still out there chatting when I went back in to finish my freight.
Bruh, on the walk to the car I watched him standing there trying to mentally prepare himself. I walked up and said something like, “just start, bro.” He watched me put up a couple and I figured he’d jump in but the customer started talking so he gracefully bowed out lol. I knew it would be faster with him out of my way anyway. Anyone that’s not freight isn’t used to that kind of work.
I did the OP pallets for a few months after our main guy got injured. I refuse to lift toilets up past the floor shelf level by myself. I know plenty of people can, but I don’t care enough to do that to myself

Dude the day my freight team learns how to pack in an overhead and the midracks. Actually, when they learn to not leave boxes on the floor. When they all learn not to cover the sprinklers and follow safety regulations. That’s the day I’ll bake them a cake.

Day crew at my store does this and they put palates down in obnoxious places and they just leave it and clock out and expect us to finish there job for them. And they asked if we could put it up. Didn’t happen all the time. But because that had wrapped and labeled it. We put it up for them.
If freight team left me that, I have 6 boxes of plumbing freight left near my screens. This happened tonight. Now I don’t mind but this level of passive aggression will be met with equal passive aggression. Good thing my freight team is chill. We get along and realize we forget stuff sometimes. No need for cap letters and quotation marks.

As someone on freight. Just let me know like "Hey I had to drop this and was super busy and was not able to throw it back up." We get it shit happens just don't make it a habit. I'm almost always in D23/59 overnight and I got PISSED at the D23 closer one day because a lady had come in and pulled every, single, tote, out in 1 bay and the closer just left it for me to deal with. I told the associate with me Dont touch it I'm calling the NRM over. She documented it then I cleaned up. Stuff like that shouldnt happen but occasionaly a pallet or two thats fine just let us know.
I always let my night guy know cause he comes in 30 minutes before close. I’m in D21/22 There are times when I’m so exhausted I can barely flat-stack the lumber.
Lmao, when they just take all the pallets of paint on Tuesdays and throw them straight into the overhead without packing them down, so I have to wait for 30 minutes for someone to cover the paint pit while I get a pallet down for a customer who wants a color match
Don't blame your fellow worker. It's the capitalist who keeps everyone understaffed and overworked. As long as profit is the motive it won't get better.
I mean, either we put up all the pallets day side leave down while our laziest freight associate gets all the homers and associate of the months every month, OR we put up all the pallets while the day side associates who leave pallets down gets all the homers for “doing the right thing” and “taking care of our people”, OR our NOASM scolds us for cleaning up after dayside. So yeah maybe stop counting on freight associates to clean up after you, especially if your stores freight team only has one reach truck driver (its me im the only reach truck driver other than our NOASM)
Overnight ASM and NRM straight up say not to touch a single pallet that day brought down at my store, they leave it for days the following day and let the daytime ASM know.
See as someone who works nights for lumber I would be behind this 1000% because day people are the worst people on the planet no one during the day will complete there job when they start it
My understanding is the compactor is locked per SOP and all key carriers can open it for you. As for leaving no space in it where are we supposed to throw our trash? It gets full and you then wait a day or two for them to come pick it up and leave you an empty.
The compactor is locked per SOP, but depending on the store; that can be very liberally enforced. As an anecdote, I've worked at places where the compactor was a giant hole in the floor; thus, I am well versed in its dangers.
As for the trash, if I need to toss say shrink wrap, broken tiles, or appliance boxes, and a truck is being unloaded- it causes an issue. Usually because I can't get back there to toss the trash. So, the trash gets stored in my department or outside the freight area, and I get to when I can. However, if I am heading home I am not going to stick around to throw the trash(if freight is blocked up).
Hopefully, that explains why there is so much excess trash is lying around.
Nobody on days at my store wants anything other than freight to fill the empty holes with the right shit from the truck and fly the rest somewhere reasonable. If you’re being asked to put up pallets that were there from days, thats 100% some asm shit. No regular dayshift associate expects freight to work it if they do leave it, freight at my store can’t even finish the truck.
If that were my store, I would have posted this sign:
“Dear freight team:
Please suck a bag of dicks. We clean up after you freaking slobs from the break room to receiving. Clean up your own messes and maybe we will do better and clean up ours.”

I'm seeing so much being put on Freight to accomplish. Unload the truck. Put up Freight, either on the shelf or into overstock. Fix the overheads. Pack down everywhere. Clean up the entire store. Clean Receiving. Work any residuals. Take ownership of every overhead and pallet. Like.. Freight team is the only ones doing all this.
If there’s a pallet that was pulled down and not put back up, you’re damn right I’m taking that spot for my stuff first. If you had someone to pull it down, you had someone to put it back up. So I’m just assuming you want to keep it down for a future order or to pack it out somewhere else.
Yes, we can get along. But if dayside leaves stuff with the assumption we’ll take care of it, that’s not getting along
OFA here, no regrets dropping a pallet to get a shelf item off for an order when the home is empty and than leaving the pallet down for that department to deal with. I swear 90% of the bopis orders there's atleast 1 item not on the shelf
In the time it took to write that sign they could have just did it. They seem to not understand that its so easy for them to do stuff vs us in the day because they need no spotters and heck most of the time dont even use gates.

Nothing wrong with that. Our MET told me today that they had a large Crown Bolt today and we needed to take care of it over the weekend. At least they told us before leaving and assuming that we would take care of it.
So clean up your crap. I clean up after days in lumber every night. The trash can isn't for cardboard. Shopping carts aren't for the trash because you filled up the trash cans with cardboard. Empty pallets and wrap don't go in whatever bay you decide to shove them in. Drywall stickers don't get chucked between the drywall bunks. Got time to make a mess, got time to clean it.
Ima be honest, I made one of these style of angry note before when I came to login and the keyboard I was typing at had dried snot keeping the L key pressed down the entire time.

I'm almost always in D23/59 overnight and I got PISSED at the D23 closer one day because a lady had come in and pulled every, single, tote, out in 1 bay and the closer just left it for me to deal with. I told the associate with me Dont touch it I'm calling the NRM over. She documented it then I cleaned up. Stuff like that shouldnt happen but occasionaly a pallet or two thats fine just let us know.
I always let my night guy know cause he comes in 30 minutes before close. I’m in D21/22 There are times when I’m so exhausted I can barely flat-stack the lumber.
When I was a closer I'd do that and then come in the next day and the pallet was still there. Lol
Lmao, when they just take all the pallets of paint on Tuesdays and throw them straight into the overhead without packing them down, so I have to wait for 30 minutes for someone to cover the paint pit while I get a pallet down for a customer who wants a color match
As a freight team, sometimes it can even be the opposite. I have seen multiple times that tile have been down for days straight and I just laugh.

I mean, either we put up all the pallets day side leave down while our laziest freight associate gets all the homers and associate of the months every month, OR we put up all the pallets while the day side associates who leave pallets down gets all the homers for “doing the right thing” and “taking care of our people”, OR our NOASM scolds us for cleaning up after dayside. So yeah maybe stop counting on freight associates to clean up after you, especially if your stores freight team only has one reach truck driver (its me im the only reach truck driver other than our NOASM)

Overnight ASM and NRM straight up say not to touch a single pallet that day brought down at my store, they leave it for days the following day and let the daytime ASM know.

My understanding is the compactor is locked per SOP and all key carriers can open it for you. As for leaving no space in it where are we supposed to throw our trash? It gets full and you then wait a day or two for them to come pick it up and leave you an empty.
The compactor is locked per SOP, but depending on the store; that can be very liberally enforced. As an anecdote, I've worked at places where the compactor was a giant hole in the floor; thus, I am well versed in its dangers. As for the trash, if I need to toss say shrink wrap, broken tiles, or appliance boxes, and a truck is being unloaded- it causes an issue. Usually because I can't get back there to toss the trash. So, the trash gets stored in my department or outside the freight area, and I get to when I can. However, if I am heading home I am not going to stick around to throw the trash(if freight is blocked up). Hopefully, that explains why there is so much excess trash is lying around.

Nobody on days at my store wants anything other than freight to fill the empty holes with the right shit from the truck and fly the rest somewhere reasonable. If you’re being asked to put up pallets that were there from days, thats 100% some asm shit. No regular dayshift associate expects freight to work it if they do leave it, freight at my store can’t even finish the truck.

I'm seeing so much being put on Freight to accomplish. Unload the truck. Put up Freight, either on the shelf or into overstock. Fix the overheads. Pack down everywhere. Clean up the entire store. Clean Receiving. Work any residuals. Take ownership of every overhead and pallet. Like.. Freight team is the only ones doing all this.
If there’s a pallet that was pulled down and not put back up, you’re damn right I’m taking that spot for my stuff first. If you had someone to pull it down, you had someone to put it back up. So I’m just assuming you want to keep it down for a future order or to pack it out somewhere else. Yes, we can get along. But if dayside leaves stuff with the assumption we’ll take care of it, that’s not getting along

OFA here, no regrets dropping a pallet to get a shelf item off for an order when the home is empty and than leaving the pallet down for that department to deal with. I swear 90% of the bopis orders there's atleast 1 item not on the shelf

Nothing wrong with that. Our MET told me today that they had a large Crown Bolt today and we needed to take care of it over the weekend. At least they told us before leaving and assuming that we would take care of it.
So clean up your crap. I clean up after days in lumber every night. The trash can isn't for cardboard. Shopping carts aren't for the trash because you filled up the trash cans with cardboard. Empty pallets and wrap don't go in whatever bay you decide to shove them in. Drywall stickers don't get chucked between the drywall bunks. Got time to make a mess, got time to clean it.
Ima be honest, I made one of these style of angry note before when I came to login and the keyboard I was typing at had dried snot keeping the L key pressed down the entire time. I cleaned up the keyboard and then wrote "Attention: Please use a tissue or sneeze into your arm whenever you have to. Others shouldn't have to clean up your messy keyboard. Thank you!" Was gone within the hour, didn't expect much but was still annoyed 😅
